Send us a textIn this insightful episode, we embark on an eye-opening exploration of Lent's global significance in the Christian faith. Although traditionally known as a period of fasting and reflection, Lent holds diverse meanings across cultures and Christian denominations worldwide. The question we tackle is bold: "Is Lent a necessary spiritual practice, or merely a man-made tradition?" Reverend Ben Cooper leads us through a compelling discussion on the biblical roots of Lent—or the absence thereof—and how this historical practice has developed across various Christian traditions, approximately six centuries after Jesus' sacrifice. We challenge our global listeners to reflect on the true role of Jesus Christ as the sacrificial Lamb, a concept that transcends cultural differences and remains central to Christianity worldwide. The blood of Jesus, symbolized in communion, is not just a tradition but a core biblical truth that connects Christians of all nations, reaffirming our faith and relationship with Christ. In this episode, we dive deep into spiritual growth through fasting and prayer, two practices central to Lent but often misunderstood. How do fasting and prayer connect us with God, and how are they expressed globally within Christian communities? From North America to Africa and Asia, these spiritual practices serve as tools for strengthening faith. We invite listeners from around the world to ask themselves: Are we adhering to biblical truths, or simply following cultural practices? This conversation pushes us to rethink the essence of Lent—to move beyond human-made traditions and return to the teachings of Jesus Christ, which have remained unchanged across time and geography. Whether you're in the U.S., South America, or Southeast Asia, the message of Jesus' sacrifice transcends borders and calls all Christians to a deeper walk with God. By focusing on the biblical roots of Lent, we open ourselves to a spiritual awakening that unites believers worldwide in pursuit of authentic faith. We challenge all Christians globally to reflect on the role of Lent in their lives, and how these biblical practices can foster spiritual growth. Through the lens of Lent, we invite our listeners to engage in authentic relationships with Jesus Christ, whether in traditional observances or personal reflections. Let us turn to the core teachings of the Bible, rather than merely following traditions shaped by culture and time. This episode will help listeners gain a better understanding of how Lent is observed around the world, and how the practices of fasting, prayer, and communion can lead to a deeper connection with God and one another. Join us on this global journey of faith as we reflect on Jesus' sacrifice, spiritual growth, and the true meaning of Lent.Don't forget to subscribe, share this episode with your global Christian community, and leave us your thoughts to keep the conversation going. A bonus episode inspired by Holy Spirit after reading the lyrics of The Goodness of God written by Jason Ingram / Brian Johnson / Ed Cash / Ben Fielding / Jenn Johnson. I was driving down the road visiting with the Lord in some dedicated to Him windshield time, and He brought this song to my remembrance. This outpouring is intentional for you today. When it comes to the Lord's strategy and walking by the Spirit in obedience, we must release these things. We never know who they are for, but God does. And that is His goodness in action! There is a very strategic, very specific timing of this particular "sound" and Rhema word that has to be released right now today. Although I have many things on my agenda today, I laid them all down to speak this over a recording. As you listen, I encourage you to put it all down - no distractions, just listen. Just be in the moment in His holy presence. Focus to hear what the Lord has to minister to your heart through this sound and word. I know it is for someone - is it for you?! Maybe it is even for multiple and many ones, but definitely for one, indeed. So, it had to be done. I pray that it blesses each listener that tunes in. Prayer of Agreement: God, You alone, be praised and glorified in all we do. Help us to submit it all to You, Father. Every ... last... bit of it. Be our all in all, in Your fullness, Abba Father! In the mighty name of Jesus, we ask that these things be taught unto us, even more by the Spirit, as we walk and abide and remain in You. You in us and us in You, Mighty God! Let us know what United in Christ means in totality! We give You our "Yes" of submission unto Your Lordship in our lives and finish this with our Amen of acknowledgment of Your faithfulness and our own awe in Your very presence, saying "so be it" as we continue to stand in Your love. LYRICS and proper acknowledgment of honor for this A cappella cover of "The Goodness of God" I love You, Lord For Your mercy never fails me All my days, I've been held in Your hands From the moment that I wake up Until I lay my head Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God And all my life You have been faithful And all my life You have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God I love Your voice You have led me through the fire In the darkest night You are close like no other I've known You as a Father I've known You as a Friend And I have lived in the goodness of God (yeah) And all my life You have been faithful (oh) And all my life You have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God (yeah) 'Cause Your goodness is running after It's running after me Your goodness is running after It's running after me With my life laid down I'm surrendered now I give You everything 'Cause Your goodness is running after It's running after me (oh-oh) 'Cause Your goodness is running after It's running after me Your goodness is running after It's running after me With my life laid down I'm surrendered now I give You everything 'Cause Your goodness is running after It keeps running after me And all my life You have been faithful And all my life You have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I'm gonna sing of the goodness of God (I'm gonna sing, I'm gonna sing) 'Cause all my life You have been faithful And all my life You have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I'm gonna sing of the goodness of God Oh, I'm gonna sing of the goodness of God Goodness of God lyrics © So Essential Tunes, Capitol Cmg Paragon, Bethel Music Publishing, Shout! Ever wondered what it takes to navigate the highs and lows of life? Well, join us as we embark on a riveting exploration into the life of Peter, one of the earliest apostles, and how he battled through remarkable triumphs and profound pitfalls. Our deep-dive into Peter's life uncovers the essence of obedience when divine intervention calls on us, and the inherent challenge to accept such calls. We analyze the day of Pentecost, highlighting how Peter's sermon moved the masses, and discuss Peter's denial of Jesus' prophecy about his death. As we proceed, the episode sheds light on Peter's emotional turmoil facing Jesus' impending crucifixion and his struggle with self-centeredness. Can we see beyond societal pressures to join the "winning team" or amass wealth? Peter's hesitation to take the church to the Gentiles perfectly underscores this struggle. He too often forgot that his life was not solely his own and that true worship went beyond Sunday rituals. Jesus' poignant reminder that our lives come at a cost and sins have been paid for resonates through our dialogue. Join us, and glean insights from Peter's unwavering faith and trust in Jesus' divine plan, even in the darkest moments. His life will challenge us to reflect - are we living a life worthy of biblical documentation? When it's time to face your Goliath, will you let God obliterate your obstacles? Tune in for an enlightening journey filled with faith, trust, and obedience.

As moms, the grief of miscarriage is a deeply intimate one. After the joy of a positive pregnancy test, the loss of that life in the womb brings deep devastation. In this episode, Emily and Laura sit down with Abbey Wedgeworth, author of Held: 31 Biblical Reflections of God's Comfort and Care in the Sorrow of Miscarriage, to learn about how miscarriage impacts women, the ways a mom can remember the life of her child, and how the gospel meets us in the sting of death and sorrow. Even when our darkest fears in motherhood come to life, we can trust that no questions, doubts, or pain are beyond the reach of God's sovereignty and care for us—one day, he will wipe every tear from our eyes and death will be no more (Rev 21:4). What do you do when loss reveals more questions than answers? How do you navigate the doubts and anger that come when God doesn't answer a prayer or longing? For Abbey Wedgeworth, finding beauty in the valley of miscarriage was no easy feat. It was through her wrestling in her pain, that she began to see the lessons her heart needed to learn, even though her mind knew the truth of God's Word. While Abbey was well-versed in her knowledge of God's truth, the loss of a pregnancy brought a deeper understanding of the goodness of God in moments where she may not have fully felt it. And it was in one of her greatest pains that God brought forth an important and needed ministry for other women walking through a similar loss. In this raw and honest episode, Davey and Abbey talk about what it looks like bring our honest questions to God, the ways suffering can teach us to depend on the Lord in a new way, and the humility pain and lament offer us. You don't have to have experienced a miscarriage to glean from this rich conversation and find beauty in your own valley, whatever it may be.   Website: https://www.abbeywedgeworth.com Instagram: @abbeywedgeworth Podcast: Held https://www.abbeywedgeworth.com/podcast Book: Held: 31 Biblical Reflections on God's Comfort and Care in the Sorrow of Miscarriage https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1784984779/ref=as_li_tl?camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1784984779&ie=UTF8&linkCode=as2&linkId=013acf4ce7fdcfd6c074f13b5bc2b033&tag=abbeywedgew01-20
