In this week's episode, we dig into NewSong's “The Christmas Shoes,” a holiday hit that somehow became a cultural phenomenon despite being, frankly, awful. The song relies on emotional manipulation instead of real storytelling, and we still cannot understand how it convinced so many people that it was profound. We take apart the lyrics, talk through the bizarre narrative choices, and then go down the rabbit hole of the YouTube comments, which are almost as unbelievable as the song itself. Even more shocking is the legacy it left behind, spawning multiple novels and made-for-TV movies. Whether you want to or not, you will probably hear it at least once every holiday season. So get ready, because we are kicking off our Christmas shoes AND taking off our Christmas gloves, and we are NOT holding back on this musical disaster. Merry Christmas, everyone! "Here Comes Santa Claus" by Mrs. Miller. She was discovered by the announcer from "Laugh-In", which should tell you all you need to know.2. "Silent Night" by Wing. Wing Han Tsang was from Hong Kong and started singing as a hobby when she moved to New Zealand. Surprisingly, she made it kinda big. "South Park" even parodied her back in the day.3. "White Christmas" by Tiny Tim. There's also "Silent Night", featuring a spoken-word break where he takes aim at hypocrites, fornicators, and child molesters. You know, just regular Christmas caroler stuff. 4. "Little Drummer Boy" by William Hung. Isn't it crazy to think there's a whole generation who has no idea who this "American Idol" treasure is? 5. "I Got a Cold for Christmas" by the Three Stooges. Not terrible, but not exactly a classic.6. "Jingle Bells" by William Shatner, featuring Henry Rollins. Yes, THAT Henry Rollins.7. "Santa Claws Is Coming to Town" by Alice Cooper, featuring John 5, Billy Sheehan, and Vinny Appice. 8. "The Night Before Christmas" by David Hasselhoff. This one is extra cheesy, but did you expect anything less?9. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" by Regis Philbin. This one has a cameo by a pre-Oval Office Donald Trump, who offers Rudolph a job in place of Santa.10. "Jingle Hell" by Christopher Lee. Yes, one of the greatest actors of all time. He dabbled in heavy metal later in life. This actually isn't his only holiday song, either. He also did covers of "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Silent Night".11. "Away in a Manger" by the Brady Bunch. This one only features the vocal talents of Marcia, a.k.a. Maureen McCormick. It's from an album called "Merry Christmas from the Brady Bunch".See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Erik came in wide-eyed and crazed about a movie that was made from a book that was made about the lyrics of a song. Naturally, we had to explore this holiday themed world where the season is less than festive and the lessons learned are...up to interpretation. At the very least we keep the Christ in Christmas Shoes. On this episode are cohosts Erik and Lizzy (https://lizardxlizard.carrd.co/)

Christmas Stories of Hope and Healing Christmas and Cedarville alumna Donna VanLiere are virtually synonymous. As a New York Times and USA Today bestseller, many of Donna's novels are set during the Christmas season. Six of her books have made the transition to television, including The Christmas Shoes and The Christmas Blessing. The ideas for Donna's books are often deeply personal. She finds inspiration in life's small moments, even in something as simple as an overheard comment from a passing stranger. Regardless of the source, Donna strives to tell stories that are filled with hope and healing. This time of year, is special for Donna and her husband, Troy, and their three children: Grace, Kate, and David. Christmas will always hold a special place in Donna's life. As much as Donna loves Christmas and enjoys sharing the joy of Jesus' first advent, she also seeks to remind her readers that there is more to the story. In her three latest books, The Time of Jacob's Struggle, The Day of Ezekiel's Hope, and Daniel's Final Week, she examines the Bible's teaching on Christ's second coming. Tune in to this special Christmas Day edition of the Cedarville Stories podcast and celebrate Jesus with Donna VanLiere. https://share.transistor.fm/s/16370548https://youtu.be/xu8cJmXzDiw
