The cluster of hepatitis A infections linked to some frozen imported berries keeps growing, despite the suspect products being ditched from supermarket shelves. A range of Foodstuffs' Pam's brand frozen berry products were voluntarily recalled in early October after New Zealand food safety linked the infections to fruit imported from Serbia. Since the first cases came to light, consumers have been warned to boil all frozen imported berries at 85 degrees for a minute before eating them. New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle warns some Hep A cases have long incubation periods.
Another seven cases of Hepatitis A have cropped up in the community, one of which is definitively linked to the consumption of frozen berries, and six that are under investigation.

Foodstuffs has recalled various brands of Pams frozen berry products because of a possible link to Hepatitis A. They are currently being removed from New World, Pak n Save and Four Square stores nationwide and from Trents and Raeward Fresh stores in the South Island. Beware of the berry is the word from New Zealand Food Safety. But the good news is you can still chow down on imported frozen raspberries, blueberries and the rest if you follow a few key suggestions... The advice is to boil them for a minute, or cook them at a temperature above 85C. Our reporter Nick Truebridge joins us now from central Auckland cooking school Main Course. It's been berry confusing - a food safety notice about the risk of Hepatitis A from imported frozen berries, but no specifics about which brands and from what countries. People are being advised to boil their frozen berries for a minute at 85C or above before eating them. It follows three cases of Hep A in people who regularly consume imported berries and are linked by vurus genotyping. NZ Food Safety deputy director Vincent Arbuckle talks to Lisa Owen. [embed] https://players.brightcove.net/6093072280001/default_default/index.html?videoId=6312333080112
A warning has been issued about frozen berries, which have been linked to three cases of Hepatitis A. New Zealand Food Safety says there is not sufficient information on a specific brand to initiate a targeted product recall. But there have been three cases in people who regularly eat frozen berries. Those with chronic liver damage, the elderly and pregnant people are being told to be especially careful if eating frozen berries. The advice is to briefly boil frozen berries before eating them, or ensure cooking temperatures exceed 85degC for one minute. And wash your hands before eating and preparing food. Food Safety says its working with frozen berry suppliers to ensure they are aware of potential risks and are actively managing the issue.
Hepatitis A has recently been found in frozen berries. This poses a risk to consumers. To avoid contracting hepatitis A, Vincent Arbuckle of NZ Food Safety recommends boiling your frozen berries. “Consuming them in an uncooked state will not kill the virus present in the berries.” LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Mo: Hi Dr Cabral, Mo here again. I just wanted to start off by telling you that I do not think you have any clue how much of an impact you have made in my immediate family & the world. You are one of my idols and I am so grateful for having been introduced to you. Thank you for all you do, it is truly needed in the world, especially these days!In regards to my question, this is something that has been confusing me for nearly a decade and no-one has been able to give me a proper answer. I have used multiple smart watches to calculate my BMR and have counted my macros numerous times of my life and cant seem to understand how this works for my body. I am 6'3, 185-190lbs, typically around a 4-8% B/F, Pitta-Vatta, do 3 days a week full body interval training, 2 days light cardio. I average about 3800 calories burned on light days and 4500 on full body training days however I cant seem to eat more than 2500 calories unless I do a cheat/flex meal. How is it that my body can burn more calories nearly every single day of the week than it takes in and I am not catabolic? I feel absolutely amazing (especially since following a lot of your protocols and daily routines). I'm not trying to put on muscle or get any bigger, but just curious what your thoughts are. Thank you thank you thank you! Imogen: Hi there!Thank you for everything you do! I am currently reading your book and am learning so much. What is your opinion on camels milk? I searched it up on your podcast but there were no results. Would it be similar to goats milk or would you avoid it like cows dairy. (I have never tried it though so not sure what it taste like) James: Hi Mentor Cabral. I have messaged you a few times during my bodybuilding bulk and cut. Thanks for your previous advice. I am currently in my cutting phase and my question is........... Once I come out of my cutting phase, I obviously want to retain all the muscle I have built for as long as possible, basically the remainder of my life. My predicament though, is that I do not want to constantly worry about if I have consumed 0.8-1g of protein per lb of body weight, and I don't want to worry about eating at a maintenance everyday. Will my body adjust to this new found muscle, and will I retain my muscle naturally just through regular strength training and just eating intuitively? Or, will I still have to make sure I am eating at a maintenance and getting lots of protein? I'll be around 200lbs at the end of my cut so It's quite a lot of protein and calories I need to be at maintenance, and I would rather just eat how I feel like. Obviously I know I cannot starve myself, or eat 30g of protein and expect to retain my muscle I have built up this year, but I just wondered if you had any tips on how to retain my muscle without being so anal about my calories and macronutrient ratios? Sam: Hi Dr Cabral, I take the daily foundational protocol level 3 but have also added some triphala. Do you think it's a bad idea to take triphala everyday? Bettina: Dear Stephen CabralThank you for your great podcast and for sharing all your knowledge, I truly appreciate it.I have a question regarding smoothies with frozen berries. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration advice that all frozen berries are cooked at high heat for one minute before consuming. This is because of a possible link between Hepatitis A and smoothies with frozen berries. I drink smoothies everyday with frozen berries so I would love to know what your thoughts are on this?Best regards Bettina Larissa: Hi Dr. Cabral! I'm an IHP and am so grateful for all of your guidance and everything you you do for the community! I have a couple questions: 1. What are your thoughts on Taurine. Do you feel this is something that Vegans should supplement with after fine tuning foundational things first using data from the Big Five Labs? 2. What are your thoughts on Magnesium Threonate compared to other forms of Magnesium. Many people feel this is an exceptional form for people with Anxiety & Depression because it can more easily cross the blood brain barrier. Thank you for sharing all of your wisdom & experience!
