Gary Mason, a national affairs columnist for the Globe and Mail, recently dived into the numbers Alberta separation supporters probably don't want to hear. If Alberta were to become independent, he says, thousands would lose their jobs, the GDP would crumble, and that's just the start. He joins the show to explain where the numbers came from and what they could mean for not just Albertans but Canadians as a whole.

One of the hardest times to practice good listening is with people who have opposing viewpoints. Indeed, the polarization in our society seems to be getting worse, not better, over time. Yet Paul is clear with the Christians in Ephesus: Unwholesome speech, bitterness, and anger have no place in civil conversation. Instead, we need a mutual willingness to listen to each other. In this episode of Beyond the Sermon, Magrey deVega sits down with guest preacher Gary Mason to continue the conversation on listening in a divided world. Drawing from Gary's experience in Northern Ireland and his work with Rethinking Conflict, they reflect on how polarization, labeling, and dehumanization take root—and why listening is essential to preserving life and peace. Together, they explore the connection between listening to God and listening to one another, the power of storytelling, and why “engagement is not endorsement” when navigating deep disagreement.Find out more at HydeParkUMC.org

Joe Hamilton, Legend of Conservation - Part 1 of 2. The profound success story of whitetail conservation could not be told without Joe Hamilton. He spearheaded a movement in the South that expanded across the country forever changing the landscape of herd health and habitat quality. I met Mr. Joe years ago at Rose Hill Plantation sometime in the early 2000's. I was thrilled to shake his hand and to be invited on such a hunt by the Morrison family. I've never been one to follow hunting media shows or celebrity type hunters. QDMA was the content I consumed and Joe is a figure that I've always admired and respected. Several years ago I connected with Joe Hamilton again. Joe joined us for a mentored hunt at my family farm for a memorable weekend and since then we have stayed in touch. When I started Southeast Whitetail, Joe was at the top of my list to interview and showcase his dedication and career work with conservation. Thus, I asked Joe to film the first episode of Southeastern Sit-down Series: Joe Hamilton, Legend of Conservation. Joe has a long and storied history in the outdoors which is well documented in his book: "Firepot Stories". A fascinating read and very informative of the revered white-tailed deer. Thank you for listening to the interview and a very special thank you to Mr. Joe Hamilton. He opened his home to me and I greatly appreciate his time. Below are career highlights and the numerous recognition awards. Steve Bunce has spent 40 years writing and talking about boxing for just about every newspaper and magazine in Britain – and just about every TV and radio station as well. In his career he's reported at ringside in over 30 countries and rubbed shoulders with hustlers and hoodlums, kings and clowns, journeymen and Hall of Fame fighters. To use one of my favourite lines of his, that's boxing, as they say in the trade. Steve's new book, Around the World in 80 Fights, follows on from Bunce's Big Fat Short History of British Boxing. We go through it all here, charting the crazy journey women's boxing made in his time from the likes of Deirdre Gogarty and Jane Couch starting out to Katie Taylor headlining at Madison Square Garden against Amanda Serrano, a Kiko Martinez love-in in Belfast as he returned to reminisce ten years on from his world title fight with Carl Frampton, and a cheeky text from Kenneth Egan that ensured he got the armband on an all-Irish boxing football team. There's his legendary showdown with a raging Bernard Hopkins, a discussion of how the media landscape has shifted massively during his four decades in the business, memories of his dalliances with the hardmen of Russia and a poignant story about the late Gary Mason where there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Like his book, this interview has got a bit of everything. Here's to a few sequels. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I recently heard the Rev. Gary Mason speak about the fracture that painfully exists within American society. Although Rev. Mason isn't American, his upbringing and ministry within Northern Ireland gives him a powerful insight into ways to heal a divided nation. This podcast reflects on his suggested solution, and an ancient theological tenet that might help us accept the solution. ———————————————————————————————————————.
