With the run up to the November election in full swing - saddled between the RNC and DNC national conventions, I thought it was a great moment in history to check our collective guts. To remind us to question everything. And to question what we are being force fed. In fact, if a message or news story comes into your feed or life over and over and over, for fun's sake, take the opposite side and do your own deep dive into the subject. That is empowerment. That is exercising freedom. The antithesis is mindless scrolling, eating up everything the lecherous 24-hour news cycle spits out - and it is not a path to peace and happiness. I've found the techniques used by communist China and cults to be disturbing, not just because of their blatant use of fear and insecurity-inducing tactics, but because I see them used all the time in mainstream USA. So, that's why my focus is on cults. To keep me from buying what they're selling, and remind me to (when I have to know the current events) pluck sources from the extremes, left AND right AND center and see where the information intersects. In this podcast episode of Food Non-Fiction, we speak with world champion sumo wrestler, Byamba. He is 6'1'' and 350lb but he has gotten his body fat percentage down to 11%. Sumo wrestlers may look fat, but they have more fat free mass (this includes the weight of internal organs and skeletal muscle) than body builders. This means that underneath the external fat is a wall of dense muscle. We talk about chankonabe, otherwise known as sumo stew. This is the sumo wrestler's staple food. With a cool clear sky morning in the ATL, I  thought it apropos to put out the 2012 Fall Edition.  In keeping with past traditions of this series, I wrestled up a HOT cowboy for your eye-candy pleasure to helm the cover art.  Yee Haw! Originally this came out to two sets, but then I realized Gay Pride is coming up this next weekend in the city so I went back and did some serious editing to bring it down to one to give it a more upbeat feel. Overall, I am beyond pleased with how this came out as I am certain all my circuit boys will be as well.  My new favorite tracks of the moment are the stellar Danny Verde remix of Mariah's “Triumphant” (a song that I really don't like) but I'll be damned if Danny didn't give it that kick it needed; Wayne G's 2012 re-version of the camp classic “I Just Wanna Dance” complete with new vocals by the amazing Alison Jiear; Diva Convention's massive floorfiller “Hearbeat” and Nelly Furtado's latest “Parking Lot” where Wayne G once again glitter bombs the song making it a playful club floor romp. I am about to start on the Halloween Edition this weekend, but first I gotta get myself to work. Sincerity and fervency is not enough when it comes to driving from New York to Washington. If you head north you'll be in Montreal, not D.C. We all know this when it comes to directions. Why do we think we can take any road to heaven as long as we are sincere and fervent? This is the question the Apostle Paul discusses in Romans 10:1-15 in a message we have titled "Closer than a Heart Beat."
