After Biles revealed her former teammate blocked her on X, formerly known as Twitter, for mocking her prior comments after celebrating her 2024 Paris Olympics win, she is calling a truce. "Watching people cheer on the bullying … is disgusting," she said, noting that she's received a lot of "death threats" toward herself and her husband and child. As OK previously reported, Biles, 27, made fun of Skinner's prior comments in which she said present day gymnasts "don't work as hard" as they used to, seemingly referring to Biles and her teammates Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee and Hazyl Rivera. "But not just heartbroken because it isn't what I feel or even how I previously said, but because Simone's latest post and others that followed it fueled another wave of hateful comments, DMs, articles and emails," she added.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

What happens when a popular video game streamer's past as an OnlyFans content creator is exposed? This week on Calibrate Conversations, we examine the fallout surrounding Kylie Cox, better known as Sketch, and the whirlwind of mixed reactions that ensued after his involvement in gay pornography came to light. We dissect his response through an awkward apology video where he acknowledges his past and emphasizes his personal growth and transformation. We also explore the varied public reactions, from those defending his past as a legitimate form of sex work to others who criticize him harshly, and consider the broader implications of his actions. In our second segment, we reflect on the darker side of social media, focusing on the intense struggles and desperation that often drive people to public confessions and the inevitable online bullying that follows. We advocate for kindness and empathy, highlighting the importance of finding true value as image bearers of God rather than chasing online fame. Sharing personal stories of social awkwardness and ridicule, we urge listeners to cultivate genuine, supportive relationships. The Clare-based president of the ASTI insists schools must be provided with resources to monitor online bullying. As of this week, schools are required to note all incidents of bullying behaviour which involves recording the nature of the offence, the approach taken to address it and the outcome. Minister for Education Norma Foley has also invited representatives from Meta, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) to a roundtable discussion on online safety for young people next month. ASTI President and St. Joseph's Kilkee Community College teacher Geraldine O'Brien says when it comes to tackling online bullying, an initiative is only as strong as the resources granted to implement it.

Our guest today is Dr. Kirk Honda, a licensed therapist, professor, and the host of Psychology in Seattle. He is a new friend that I've recently connected with over my work in reality TV and the UCAN Foundation. One of the reasons I like Dr. Kirk is his compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach to content, which is very rare for someone who is commenting on culture or reality TV. A couple weeks ago, Dr. Kirk had me as a guest on his podcast Psychology in Seattle. During our discussion, he shared with me an experience he had last year during his coverage of the defamation lawsuit between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. His commentary on the trial led to him becoming a victim of an online bully mob that was coming at him from both sides, to the point where they were actively organizing against him on social media. He was eventually forced to make some changes in his personal life to protect himself, which we'll cover in this interview. I wanted to have Dr. Kirk on to discuss the dark side of the internet. I've experienced the online bully mob myself, and I know a lot of people in my life now that have experienced it. It's important to me to discuss the impacts that that has on someone's mental health and feeling of safety. Please welcome Dr. Kirk Honda. Host Connor Cyrus speaks to Champlain College professor Barbara Colombo and UVM professor Kimberly Vannest about the toll of online bullying and harassment on adults.
As we live in an increasingly internet-driven world, it should come as no surprise that online or cyberbullying is a problem of growing significance and impact, one that actually seems to have worsened during the pandemic. In 2022, nearly half of all teenagers experienced some form of online bullying or harassment. But what may be less well understood is beyond the mental and emotional impact, online harassment can also pose a risk to an individual's personal data and financial security. Joining me to help explore this topic is Lisa Yeo, a professor with the University of California MERCED. We'll talk about the work she has been doing to combat online bullying and harassment and how this fits into the larger discussion of security and privacy.
