In this episode, we have Jessie L. Mannisto, the Editor in Chief of the Third Factor magazine, a thought-provoking magazine that helps the creative, the quirky, and the gifted understand themselves. It is a magazine for those who experience life intensely, those who are teeming with complexity, complex feelings, and abundant mental activities. In this episode we cover:— A deep, detailed dive into exactly what the five excitabilities may look like— How Jessie meanders a world where people, including her parents, can be overwhelmed by her intensity— The importance of being yourself even when the world finds you ‘too much’.— We both shared a lot of our personal experience of living with these intensities Instead of an interview, this is very much a lively conversation with a friend. I got very excited and there were lots of back and forth between us, I didn’t realise this then but I interrupted Jessie a lot! We talk about: Who Jessie is. (Harry Potter and dogs just about sum her up! lol kidding) Meeting on Instagram. Our lives being completely different than when we met four and a half years ago - both in exciting and challenging ways. Moving relatively quickly in all facets of our relationship and why it felt right and natural. A really difficult time in our lives that involved intense health issues for each of us... including almost breaking up and calling off our engagement. How Jessie just quit her job, what she plans to do, and how we're handling it as a couple. (This is both exhilarating and terrifying!) And finally... a bit of a teaser about the content that we're going to be putting out together. You're going to like it if... you are curious about being self-employed, passionate about doing meaningful work, aren't independently wealthy (hellooo debt!) and just want to live a life that feels good to you. -- Jessie's IG: https://www.instagram.com/jessie__fritz/ Jessie's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwATc6E-0B-QbxnZyyxMMAA Jessie's podcast: https://www.jessiefritz.com/podcast Why the World Needs You feedback survey: https://forms.gle/aMtwkd4bkKkTTXfRA

No one can save you except for you. In this episode, Jessie Jolles and I talk about being the hero of our own story, disordered eating, and Jessie reveals her childhood trademark. Jessie Jolles is a writer/comedian living in Queens, New York. She’s worked for over 2 years as a writer/director for Betches Media where her videos have millions of views. She’s also written standup for personalities like Taylor Strecker (The Taylor Strecker Show) and Stassi Schroeder (Vanderpump Rules). She was 1 of 100 creators from around the world selected for YouTube's “Women in Comedy” Production Program. You can hear her on her podcast No Such Thing As Love with Claire Burns and her new podcast with Chris Burns (aka Fat Carrie Bradshaw) called Middle Children. Jessie and I open the show about our shared terrible experience with toxic power. We were both babies! It's a miracle we didn't quit the comedy business back then. Plus, an article came out validating that something was wrong with the CEO. Jessie learned that she needed to make money separately, so she didn't make creative decisions based on money. Everything suffers if you make decisions based on money. Jessie dives deep into her childhood. Being an overweight kid really shapes everything. Jessie did not let her parents control her eating habits. After summer camp, Jessie's dad said she was unrecognizable because she had gained so much weight. In high school, Jessie thought the key to success was losing weight. Summer camp was a buffet, Jessie felt like she could finally eat because her parents weren't around. Jessie had a rolling backpack in high school – it was her trademark. However, it seriously made her a target for bullies. We talk about dyslexia and being the "special" class growing up. Jessie's mom always knew she was smart, she just learned differently. Instead of cheating, Jessie would cram, make up a song, and learn it. Presentations in high school were also fantastic – she considered it like a performance. Jessie would trick people into doing work for her in college. However, texting has been such a problem for Jessie. In fact, she broke up with someone because she misread one of their text messages. Stay tuned as we talk about Jessie's dating history and what happened after Jessie realized she had an eating disorder. What a pleasure to interview the owner of Bold Strength Fitness, LLC, in a Contest Prep U coaching feature. One of the things that has impressed me most about Jessie as I've gotten to know him is his heart to help people. Note from Elise: When the last-minute opportunity arose to revisit a favorite episode, I jumped at the chance since I have wanted to re-share one particular conversation for a while now. Jessie Haas epitomizes what I hope to express through Because of Horses Podcast: how to be true to yourself and the things that give you joy by creating an intentional life doing what you love most. Jessie takes it to the next level by helping horses, horse owners, and the next generation of writers. That Jessie is an internationally acclaimed and beloved writer whose books have brought immeasurable happiness to horse-loving children and adults alike? Icing on the karmic cake. I'm thrilled to say author Jessie Haas is, again, my guest on Because of Horses. Ask a young child what he or she would like to be when they grow up, and you’ll get an imaginative list that — once they reach adulthood — rarely bears any resemblance to the career they wind up pursuing. But occasionally, you’ll meet someone who is doing exactly what they said they’d do all along.. Author Jessie Haas is a perfect example. She was practically born loving horses, as if it was stamped into her DNA. As a young child, she read every horse book she could get her hands on and would read them over and over again, returning to each with just as much joy as the first time she read it. Her passion for writing blossomed in middle school when she began creating her own horse stories. And, just a month before graduating from college, Jessie’s first book was accepted by one of the most respected U.S. children’s publishers. It was then that Jessie realized she could make a career of writing books about horses, beautifully aligning her two greatest interests. Now, Jessie lives with her husband, Michael J. Daley — who is also an author — in the house they built together and shares the beautiful Vermont woods with their dogs, cats, and three horses. Jessie is the prolific author of over 35 horse books for children and adults, including Unbroken, Chase, Runaway Radish, the Bramble and Maggie series, and books for the American Girl doll, Saige. In this episode, Elise chats with Jessie about how her passion for horses has guided her life and the choices she’s made, how and why she began writing, what success means to her, and how she continues to pursue her passion. Topic of Discussion: [1:44] How Jessie’s innate love of horses has guided her life [3:51] The special connection to horses and Jessie’s first, mischievous horse that lent a ‘hoof’ in her approach to writing [8:11] The parallel between the avid love of reading and writing: how and when Jessie realized she could pursue writing about horses as her profession [12:15] Jessie speaks about her husband, Michael J. Daley, and what it’s like living with two authors under the same roof [14:20] What it’s like ‘living off grid’ in their self-built home [16:59] Details of their quirky, cozy home [19:39] Art influencing life: The role books have played in Jessie Haas’ life and how her life and experience with horses has influenced her writing [23:24] An explanation of ‘clicker training’ — a training method that transformed Jessie’s lifelong struggle with horses [25:46] About some of Jessie’s current horses [28:18] Jessie’s experience as a ‘serially monogamous horse trainer’ [29:57] Becoming a more cautious rider: The potential possibility of getting hurt on a horse and safety measures [34:11] Importance of hard hat safety [36:36] The challenges of children’s story writing and Jessie’s process [39:26] What it’s like to meet young fans — readers of her books [42:00] The meaningful experience of connecting with young fans through her writing [43:05] Reading and writing served as a refuge for Jessie Haas as a young girl. [44:17] The writers that influence Jessie the most today [47:09] Defining your life around your passion — Jessie’s perspective [49:26] The distinction between finding work that is engaging and challenging and genuinely finding a lifelong path [51:35] Being ‘real’ in your career and life — what it means to Jessie [53:40] Where realism and passion meet — the extended exercise of writing a story [55:05] What success means to Jessie [59:41] Where to find Jessie Haas online Know Someone Inspirational, Whose Life Has Been Forever Changed Because of Horses? Prosper XR CEO and Co-founder Jessie Kim is creating the media of the future. And she and her fellow XR pioneers are offering an opportunity for others who'd like to do the same. Jessie co-founded her Los Angeles-area startup as "Prosper VR" in 2016. Since then, the company has expanded, adding augmented and mixed reality to their immersive-content offerings. In early May, at VRLA 2018, the world's largest immersive-technology festival, Prosper XR debuted three new rovers they'd created. These were designed to facilitate immersive content creation. Prosper XR's exhibit space at the Los Angeles Convention Center also gave visitors an opportunity to experience their brand-new augmented-reality app. And during VRLA, Jessie, who is one of the co-founders of nonprofit The XR Alliance, introduced a Storytelling Panel of industry pioneers in VR, AR and mixed reality. The panel served to launch XR Alliance's brand-new competition, created with the goal of empowering new creative talent. (That competition is happening this summer! The deadline for submissions is August 15th, according to The XR Alliance's website.) Jessie talked about her background in virtual, augmented and mixed reality, shared the story of creating Prosper XR and explained the details of this summer's competition. On this edition of Over Coffee®, you'll hear: How Jessie first became interested in creating immersive content; The story of Prosper VR; What Jessie came to realize about the direction in which immersive media is heading, from her previous work and speaking engagements; What the early days were like for Jessie and her co-founder, after starting their VR company; Some of the early projects and "firsts" in which Prosper VR was involved; How to access the VR app which Prosper VR created; How Prosper VR came to add augmented and mixed reality to their projects; Information on XR Alliance's new competition, which is giving a voice to new talent in the immersive-content area; Jessie's prediction for the future combining of VR, AR and mixed reality; Some of the challenges involved in creating virtual reality and augmented-reality content; Some of the resources Jessie recommends for educators; One of the best lessons Jessie learned, about creating immersive content; Some of the resources she would recommend, for anyone starting out creating VR, AR or MR; How Jessie and her team created the rovers on display at VRLA 2018; A preview of Prosper XR's new augmented-reality app; How the new competition from The XR Alliance is helping to find new storytelling talent.
The name of my guest today may sound familiar as Jessie Rodriguez is one of the stars of HGTV’s Vintage Flip along with his wife. Not only are the houses he flips fantastic, but it’s no wonder the show is such a success – he radiates positivity and has a hard work ethic to match it. We cover so many different topics from his financial rock bottom when the market crashed to earning it all back and much more, plus investments and how generosity is a non-negotiable in his life. Our conversation is proof that Jessie and his family are living their lives to the fullest – and I hope it spurs you to do the same. -- Question Highlights: What’s one of your superpowers? What is one regret you have? Who is someone who has changed your life? What is your show Vintage Flip about? How different are you and your wife in person compared to how the show portrays you? What was your first surprise in the TV world? How do you handle criticism? How do you and your wife make it work as a successful couple in business? When you were losing everything, what was the hardest part? How did you view money growing up? Today? Who do you look up to for advice? In This Episode We Talk about: How Jessie and his wife got their show on HGTV What it looks like behind the scenes of Vintage Flip What role social media plays and how he deals with the haters How Jessie and his wife compartmentalize and balance their tasks working together How he lost everything and got it all back and more Property investments The role generosity plays in his life and business And so much more… Jessie’s Thoughts… “Make your haters love and respect you.” “We found balance by bringing in other players to help us.” “What’s going to define you is how you recover from this, not that you went through it.” “I don’t want to survive the next down-turn, I want to capitalize on it.” “The ability to give, sacrifice and see the result makes you want to do more.” “As long as you’re helping, you’re getting it back.” -- Jessie and Tina Rodriguez are the husband and wife duo starring in the HGTV series VINTAGE FLIP. On VINTAGE FLIP, the couple set out to find, fix and flip vintage homes, restoring them back to their glory days while modernizing them to meet the needs of today. Each episode takes viewers from the initial process of scouting potential flips through ultimately putting the restored home on the market. Jessie and Tina have long ran Cal American Homes — a successful full-service real estate sales, construction and design firm out of Claremont, CA. Cal American Homes was named one of the fastest-growing small businesses in America by Inc. Magazine in 2012; the same year Jessie was honored as one of the National Association of Realtors’ “30 Under 30.” Since 2008, Jessie has sold more than 2,000 homes and flipped more than 500 with no signs of slowing down. Fancy Scientist: A Material Girl Living in a Sustainable World
This podcast features an amazing interview with conservationist and founder of Lonely Conservationists: Jessie Panazzolo. Jessie is a conserves conservationists; in other words, she works to save those who are saving the world. In episode #41, I talked about how important self-care is for scientists and how easily we can become burnt out and quite honestly, depressed. Jessie felt this herself, which was why she started Lonely Conservationists. Turns out there are a lot of lonely conservationists out there and her group has gained a lot of momentum over the years. This is a wide-ranging discussion not only about the challenges scientists and conservationists face, but also some field stories, how Jessie wrote a book in a month, and about the complications with boycotting palm oil. Specifically I go over: * What exactly is a Lonely Conservationist? * Why are conservationists susceptible to problems like loneliness and depression? * What other challenges conservationists face in this field * The Lonely Conservationist blog and that you can submit stories * How Jessie wrote a book from her experience and why * Fun field story – getting chased by a tiger! * Should we be boycotting palm oil? Or advocating for sustainable palm oil, which is far from perfect Get a free chapter of my book “Getting a Job in Wildlife Biology: What It’s Like and What You Need to Know” here: https://stephanieschuttler.com/getting-a-job-in-wildlife-biology-book/ Want to learn about cool animals, conservation, and get tips about careers in wildlife biology, science, and more?
