When I started my podcast journey, I was FOUR months pregnant. I had no idea if I was able to take on the challenge, and if I would be able to continue once my son was born. I didn't want to spend any money on podcasting if it wouldn't work out, so I didn't buy a microphone. I didn't sign up for a hosting site. I spent no money at all! Don't let the fear of expensive microphones and complicated websites stop you from starting a podcast! In episode 29 of Rainy Day Diaries, I share with you how to start a podcast on the cheap! I met Michelle Ward (aka: The “When I Grow Up Coach”) almost 10 years ago via her newsletter. It caught my eye while I was stopped at a stop light one day. (bad jen!) After that email I became a fan, and when I moved to NYC (where Michelle lived) I got the chance to work with her in person, and even visit one of her ukulele shows! This lady is an encouraging bag of talents. She’s a business coach, an actress, she plays uke, she writes her own songs, and is the mother is the spunkiest little five year old you’ve ever met! She’s also the one who suggested I write a book in the first place!! Head to our show notes for all the extra info & Links! www.jenipherlyn.com/blog/28
In February of 2010, I had a complete breakdown at work, and ended up hiding under my desk. In this month’s Solo episode of Rainy Day Dairies I go more in depth about that expierence, talk about when and WHY I started taking medicine, and what makes me still continue to take medicine years later. I’ve been wanting to share an episode like this for quite some time, and after seeing a new (to me) hashtag called #ShowYourMeds, I thought it was time to share it, no matter how scary it felt! I really hope it’s helpful!! Let me know in the comments!
When I first came upon Booki Vivat's book series, "Frazzled", I instantly knew I wanted them. I was vending at a market and decided I was going to buy them from my book seller neighbor, (but Camilo said I bought enough books... then later bought them for me for Christmas, so it was a win!) Not only is she an author/illustrator (win again!), but she’s obsessed with pastries. It was so exciting to get to interview someone who (also) wrote and illustrated a book for middle grade kids, and Booki’s story is super interesting! Make sure to listen to find out how she went from working at a publishing house, to becoming a published author, without even pitching any books!! As always, thank you SO MUCH for listening!I’d love to hear from you! @jenipherlyn or @rainydaydiariespod www.jenipherlyn.com
While visiting one of my favorite coffee shops recently, someone playing with Ollie said to me… ”All of my friends are having babies right now, and I feel like I’m supposed to have one now.”I pretty much said exactly this podcast to her to encourage her NOT to feel pressured!! Just in case there somewhere out there who also feels pressured, either by her friends, her age, her family, or just because she’s married, I thought it would be the perfect first minisode pep talk.
I was insanely happy to interview Katie Abey for an episode of Rainy Day Diaries. In this month’s solo episode of Rainy Day Diaries, I talk about how learning about something new (an important cause in this case!) can quickly turn into a passion… or if you’re really lucky, can quickly turn into a reason you beat yourself up.I discuss the Zero Waste Movement and easy ways for all of us to eliminate trash. My favorite straw! My favorite silverware set! So cool story, this is one of the VERY FIRST episodes of the podcast I recorded when I was pregnant. I actually came up with the idea of this episode while at a networking event in St. Pete while being surrounded by plastic cups and pre-wrapped granola bars.In all honesty though, since I became a Mom, this has been WAY harder. WAY WAY harder. Mom Brain is a real thing, and I often can’t even remember to wear shoes when I leave, let alone remember all my reusable items, but I’m trying my best. :)Also HERE is my full list of my FAVORITE waste-free products! Mentionables:- Sad Sea Turtle with Straw in Nose - graphic.- Give Yourself a BREAK! - I didn’t know about her back when I recorded this episode but I love that she explores way to reduce waste without making us feel bad about it. :)
Today’s inspiring episode is with Heather Davulcu aka April Heather Art. We covered so many topics, from Friendship to Illness, and how art helped her cope with her pain she was feeling. We also chatted about how one bridesmaid card changed the course of her art career.Friendship was a big full circle of topic in this episode. We talked about learning how not only to make friends as a adolescent, but as an adult as well. I literally cried while editing this. I’m so inspired by Heather (and Alyssa from episode 3)’s bravery - they both got bulled and then both joined tons of groups to make friends, even though joining things and meeting new people is scary! PS: You can tell when I recorded this, it was almost Mother’s Day! Ha! But her women marching artwork is so amazing and still available!!
