Send us a textThey really banned me off TikTok for telling the truth — meanwhile, deepfakes and lies are just fine. In this episode of R2 Cents, I talk about the mental gymnastics behind “community guidelines,” how saying the word discipline gets you age-restricted, and how calling someone a Neanderthal is somehow a violation. We cover the Palm Springs bombing and the motive behind it, the ridiculousness of job interview questions, and how fake meat has been on our plates longer than you think. Also: lasers starting fires, head transplants being real now, Trump's meeting with the Saudis (and how one guy there was on the FBI's Most Wanted list), and why sports talk podcasts ain't it. Welcome to the one place where you can still say the stuff they don't want you to. HECTIC AI SHOWNOTES CAUSE WE ARE LAZY, GOBBLESS. Enjoy! The Two Jacks - Episode 109: Election Update, Tariff Tremors & Online PolicingHosted by: Hong Kong Jack & Jack the InsiderWelcome to Episode 109 of The Two Jacks! This week, Jack and Jackdive into the thick of the Australian federal election, dissect President Trump's latest tariff moves, debate the policing of online speech, and touch on French politics, climate action, and sports.Key Topics Discussed:Australian Federal Election (00:00:20)Campaign Update: Entering the second week.Polling: Labor showing potential for a majority (News Poll 52-48), similar to other polls (51-49 to 52-48), despite a low primary vote (~32.5%). Recalls Labor's 2022 win with a similar primary vote.Leaders' Debate: Discussion of the Sky News debate between Peter Dutton and Anthony Albanese. Joel views it as a draw, though Albanese was declared the winner by audience vote (approx. 44-35).Campaign Weaknesses (00:17:45): Both Jacks agree the campaign lacks substance, particularly on crucial issues like productivity and housing affordability. They note the difficulty for citizens needing to live far from CBDs (e.g., South Morang vs. Fitzroy historically) and criticize the parties for avoiding hard decisions.US Tariffs & Global Economy (00:28:00 & 00:48:04)Trump's Tariff Policy: Discussion on the imposition and subsequent 90-day delay of new tariffs on countries like Vietnam (47%), the Philippines (17%), and others. Standard 10% tariff remains elsewhere.Negotiations: Reports of Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan engaging or preparing to negotiate, though Trump's claims about eagerness are questioned. Japan plans a "comprehensive response."Market Impact (00:30:08): Initial $9 trillion market loss, followed by a significant S&P 500 recovery (largest since 2008, but still below January levels). Oil prices jumped, and US bond yields fell, raising debt crisis concerns. Jack emphasizes the importance of bond yields (cost of borrowing for the US government).Motivations & Consequences (00:40:07): Is it an assertion of US economic muscle? Jack notes bipartisan support for the idea (feeling the US gets the short end), but the hosts critique the erratic rollout. Potential consequences include US inflation, slowed GDP growth, and job losses.Listener Feedback (Lawrence) (00:48:04): Criticizes the "schizophrenic" messaging (tariffs fixing jobs and deficits simultaneously) and the floated (but unconfirmed by Trump admin) idea of abolishing income tax.Outlook: Potential shift towards multilateral trade negotiations among other countries.Listener Feedback: ABC Radio (00:45:51)Listener Lawrence reflects on the Jacks' previous comments about changes at ABC Radio, noting a perceived shift in their stance from wanting "new blood" to "bemoaning changes."Joel's Clarification: Concern is about management bringing in people with FM radio backgrounds lacking national broadcaster experience, not against new faces generally.Jack's Clarification: Agrees on needing turnover ("new voices") but questions the strategy of chasing a youth demographic on ABC Radio, suggesting consolidation of the existing audience is better.Social Media Censorship & Online Dangers (UK Focus) (00:51:20)UK Arrests: Report from The Times: British police making ~33 arrests daily in 2023/24 for "offensive" online posts causing "annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety" (12,183 arrests total), a 58% rise since 2019.Policing Concerns: Many arrests lead to questioning and release without charge, raising questions about efficient use of police resources. Jack mentions the decriminalization of burglary adding context.Historical Context (00:54:31): Jack traces the issue back to the late 1990s and the concept of "non-crime hate incidents" arising from the Stephen Lawrence inquiry, arguing it introduced subjectivity and inconsistency compared to investigating objective crimes. He critiques arresting people before establishing if a crime occurred.Nuance & Online Harms (00:56:40): Joel notes arrests might relate to other offenses alongside "malicious communications." While agreeing trivial cases waste resources, he highlights the dark side of social media, including severe online bullying (mentions group "764-JAC") and stalking, arguing police surveillance is needed for serious threats.Under-16 Social Media Ban (01:02:37): Joel reflects on the Albanese government's ban, admitting he initially opposed it but is reconsidering due to the severity of online harms affecting children.French Politics Update (01:03:47)Far-right leader Marine Le Pen vows presidential run, controversially comparing herself to Martin Luther King Jr. and Alexei Navalny.Jordan Bardella (29 y.o. National Rally Chairman) emerges as a potential alternative, stating he could run if Le Pen is unable. Both Jacks see this as a likely and possibly strategically better outcome for the party.Climate Action & Protests (01:06:00)Discussion on Extinction Rebellion protests (e.g., Sydney Harbour Bridge closure) and their effectiveness versus public disruption.Critique of proposed policies like banning private jets or frequent flyer taxes as unworkable and unhelpful grandstanding.Jack jokes he's the "Greta Thunberg of Hong Kong" due to his low carbon footprint (no car, little travel).Sporting RoundupCricket (01:10:00): Sheffield Shield Final recap (Victoria vs WA), WA wins due to finishing top after a draw. Historical anecdote about Bill Ponsford's marathon innings in the 1948 final. Marcus Harris's recent form (161 in Shield, 138 for Lancashire).AFL (01:19:30): Discussion on Tasmania's potential AFL team, stadium funding debates, and the Gather Round concept's success in South Australia and potential future locations.Final Listener Note & Sign Off (01:29:46)Listener CD provides follow-up on a previous discussion about Basil Zempilis, noting his uncle (Con Zempilis) was the Chief Stipendiary Magistrate for Western Australia. The Jacks wrap up Episode 109.

The segment explores how free speech, independent voices, and resistance to media manipulation prevented a sell-off, reflecting a broader shift in power from elites to everyday Americans—particularly Main Street investors aligned with populist politics.

Jailed for a Facebook Post - War Veterans Horror Story. In this gripping Chris Thrall interview, we explore the shocking story of an Ex-Royal Marine jailed for a social media post. This case highlights the UK free speech crackdown and the dangers of social media censorship, as veterans and citizens alike face increasing restrictions on freedom of expression. Following the Southport murders aftermath, authorities took drastic action, leading to a Facebook prosecution that many see as politically motivated. Is this another example of veterans betrayed by the very country they served? We examine the British justice system, the role of the Public Order Act, and whether UK government overreach is silencing dissent. With rising concerns about political persecution, the Free Speech Union has weighed in on the growing number of social media arrests under vague and inconsistent laws. Many critics argue that two-tier policing unfairly targets individuals while ignoring others, raising fresh questions about Labour Party criticism of free speech and government policies. As tensions mount after the UK riots 2024, we discuss how new online speech laws are being used against military veterans and civilians alike. Does this case set a dangerous precedent for veteran rights? And what does it say about the state of democracy in Britain today? Join us as we uncover the truth behind the shocking case of Jamie Michael, the growing impact of social media laws, and what this means for the future of free speech in the UK. In this episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we're breaking down Trump's recent speech to Congress—what he said, what it means, and where we need to see action. I loved everything he said, but as always, words are only half the battle. We need real action, especially when it comes to issues like releasing the Epstein list, addressing RFK Jr.'s recent (shockingly) pro-vaccine articles, and ensuring America First means exactly that—not mass deportations followed by importing Indian slave labor to drive down our wages. Let's not cancel out the success of deporting illegals like that.We also need a firm stand against AI-generated mRNA vaccines, no more IVF, and a more cautious approach when it comes to Elon Musk—because while he's done some great things, blind trust is never the answer. Trump's message was strong, and it resonated, but we need to make sure his policies and actions match up with his words. Let's get into it.—https://policecoffee.com/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAACG7qmKa-gHTUmuimP_lcjhKS_Wmg&gclid=CjwKCAiArKW-BhAzEiwAZhWsIImXWe0q_YkcN5hovCt2nNZG3AuF10AS_37cDXSkJ2Xy_bBBkERbchoCREkQAvD_BwE—https://www.amazon.com/Pearls-Memoir-Childhood-Brain-Cancer-ebook/dp/B0D8R8PSK1

Hillary Clinton expressed her dismay over free speech during an appearance on CNN, adding to the anti-first amendment sentiment expressed by John Kerry at a World Economic Forum event only two weeks ago and she wasn't lying: the former First Lady and influential Democrat told the network without social media censorship her cohorts within those who wish to destroy this nation and dismantle the Free World will "lose control." Can democracy survive in a polarized world? Join us this week as we celebrate Clay's 51st birthday with some humor about AARP mail, before diving into the sobering political climate in Venezuela. We'll compare President Maduro's election rigging and the arrest of opposition leaders to the state of democracy in the United States, pondering the potential repercussions of similar actions here. The conversation then pivots to the importance of national loyalty over political division, particularly in the context of former President Trump. As the episode progresses, we tackle the escalating conflict in Israel and the occupied territories. We discuss the heartbreaking execution of six Israeli hostages by Hamas, the massive protests in Jerusalem, and Prime Minister Netanyahu's precarious political situation. Our analysis doesn't stop there— we'll dive into the varied reactions of the global Jewish community and the polarized perspectives on how to handle the conflict, from aggressive military actions to urgent calls for peace. The discussion also touches on the moral and strategic dilemmas faced by leaders and the potential involvement of the U.S. in hostage rescue operations. Finally, we address a disturbing incident involving US Marines in Turkey and its geopolitical implications, including changes in military protocols for safety abroad. We'll critique the perceived incompetence of a political figure's team and share experiences with social media censorship, shedding light on the challenges of rebuilding an online presence after a hack. This multifaceted episode promises a blend of light-hearted moments and critical perspectives, weaving through global crises, national politics, and personal anecdotes. In the latest episode of the **Capitalist Investor** podcast, Tony, Luke, and Derek delve into a series of pressing issues that are making headlines and sparking debate in both the financial and political arenas. Here are the five hot topics they covered:1. Mark Zuckerberg and Government CensorshipThe episode kicked off with a discussion about Mark Zuckerberg's recent admission to Congress that the Biden-Harris campaign pressured Facebook to censor opinions on their platform. This led to a broader conversation about the implications of such censorship and how it affects free speech. Derek questioned the timing and seriousness of this revelation, especially with Pavel Durov, Telegram CEO and staunch anti-censorship advocate, being arrested just days later. 2. Section 230 and Platform LiabilityLuke introduced the concept of Section 230, a U.S. law that protects social media companies from being held liable for user-generated content. He explained how this regulation affects both U.S. and international operations of these platforms. The hosts debated who should be responsible for content moderation and whether current laws are sufficient in today's digital landscape.3. Censorship and Free Speech in EuropeTony brought up the alarming trend in Europe where individuals are reportedly being arrested for anti-government posts and memes. This sparked anxiety about how closely the U.S. might follow suit and the implications for freedom of speech. The discussion highlighted the precarious balance between maintaining public order and preserving individual freedoms.4. The Psychological Toll of Media ConsumptionLuke shared his personal experience, noting that he never had anxiety until he started engaging with social media. This comment opened up a dialogue about the mental health impacts of being constantly bombarded with information and polarized opinions. The hosts discussed the importance of critical thinking and doing personal research to navigate the overwhelming flow of data.5. Capitalism, Socialism, and the Cyclical Nature of EconomiesThe conversation culminated in a theoretical discussion about the life cycle of capitalist systems. Luke provided a historical perspective, suggesting that capitalism often leads to a concentration of wealth, which then fosters socialistic tendencies and eventually collapses the system. They debated the role of term limits and the infusion of new ideas to prevent stagnation and corruption within political systems. The episode offered deep insights into the intersection of technology, politics, and financial theory. The hosts didn't shy away from controversial topics, providing a nuanced discussion that challenges listeners to think critically about the current state of affairs.---For those keen to dive deeper into these discussions, tune into the latest episode of the Capitalist Investor podcast. As always, the hosts encourage listeners to engage, question, and do their own research on these pivotal topics shaping our world today.
