Aussie music superstar James Reyne is live at SOPO (Southport RSL) on Friday night and he was on the show for our Stars Of Music week! This year both Spida and Ali had milestone birthday's - both turning 50 - and they've decided the occasion needs a BIG party and that's what we're doing - we have the venue and now we need to tick off some other categories of the party - and the question we asked this morning: what should Spida wear under the 80s theme? We got some cracking suggestions from the Triple M Gold family. It's the Gold Coasts most talked about radio segment - 7:40 every morning you can hear Flan, Ali and Spida's Rumour-mill - is the Gold Coast about to get a new craft brewery started up by a GC surf legend? What happened at a chemist visit for Ali that had her squirming with embarrassment? and we asked the question to our Triple M Gold family: what did you do to embarrass yourself?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Interview by Kyra-Jade CoombsIn my opinion, The Living End are a staple in the Australian music scene. They have graciously given us 8 albums and if you break them down over the years, you find hit after hit. Their debut album (self-titled) is one of those albums you can play start to finish and happily immerse yourself right into their music and feel nothing but pure joy.HEAVY took the chance to have a chat with singer/ guitar player Chris Cheney to see what's new in the world of The Living End…From the 15-17 of August The Living End are playing the sold-out Mundi Mundi Bash in Broken Hill with a few other huge names like Baby Animals (my absolute favourite!), James Reyne, Jon Stevens, Ian Moss, Daryl Braithwaite and Diesel to name a few. The fact that it has sold out in outback Broken Hill is amazing news for a health check of our Australian music industry. We are slowly getting back on track.Chris immediately laughed, saying it's surreal that although he grew up listening to most of these guys; he never thought he would see the day where he could call them mates and share the stage with them. A far cry from starting out and playing the front bar of the Epsy!Fans would be happy to hear that they are chipping away at creating their 9th album, and it's said to be ‘the most aggressive album' they have put together in years. If you jump onto The Living End social media, you can see a few behind the scenes shots that look like a bunch of fun.I must admit, I was absolutely stoked to be able to interview Chris. I had 1000 questions to ask him and could honestly chat for hours. We covered lots of cool shit like playing in Australia's golden days of the Big Day Out tours, getting rotation Triple J and appearing on Recovery – Channel [V] to having that telepathic connections with his band mates, giving way to improve jams that can either be a trainwreck or magic, in his words! You'll get a glimpse into his creative space, where he's got a set-up to appease any creative mood. An area for producing music, painting and even a bar. What more could you want, really?Being someone who's so passionate about music, I wondered what band or album Chris would give his younger self, or bring to his attention earlier if he could go back in time. To my surprise, he said early Cold Chisel… I guess I just assumed that would have been a staple. Yet of course being someone who grew up smashing the shredders of the world like Eddie Van Halen then going onto 50s music, Aussie pub rock wasn't the path they were on, nor wanted to. Which is interesting to think about the full circle moment from starting out as a young band being told to ‘play Aussie rock' to being put on the huge bills with the original Australian pub rock music pioneers and staying true to who they are.Chris is a very humble guy and genuinely - so stoked to have reached the status that they have today with The Living End. He is the kind of person you want as a role model for young musicians and says there's a space for every type of music, which sings true to his kind nature. The Living End boys still have “a lot of fuel in the tank” and thankfully aren't showing signs of slowing down!If you were lucky enough to secure a ticket to the Mundi Mundi Bash then get out there and have the time of your life! And if you didn't then that will teach you not to sleep on a good thing!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Próximo programa: Masters of the Universe - Revolution.

This is a special episode. The Story of Rock and Roll turned Six. On 12 Dec 2017, the first-ever TSORR aired from the Mix 93.8 FM Studios in Midrand Johannesburg. Six years later to the day, S6E51 aired live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 12 Dec 2023. The world has changed, and my life has changed so it is good to know that the music has not. The episode was a celebration of the bands and the songs that make the show what it is. Thank you all for your support, wherever you are and whoever you are I am deeply grateful for your support. I will continue to make sure that the show delivers the music that you have come to know it for years to come. We skipped the Diabolical Challenge this week due to the birthday bash. There were just too many bands and songs to recognize. I had 9 hours of music (123 songs) that somehow ended up in a 3 hour 34 song show. We made up for it with the Immortals feature where we needed the time. The number 2112 is sacred to the show so to celebrate the 6-year anniversary on the exact date the show started 12 December i.e. 21 12 we took a listen to the title track of Rush's masterpiece ‘2112' Artists featured: Sixx A.M., John Paul Young, Van Halen, Cold Chisel, Deep Purple, James Reyne, Scorpions, KISS, Joe Bonamassa, Rory Gallagher, Judas Priest, Dokken, Iron Maiden, Joe Jackson, The Boomtown rats, Audioslave, Matthew Good Band, Buckcherry, Danko Jones, ACDC, Foo Fighters, The Stranglers, The Clash, Rush, Guns ‘n' Roses, Megadeth, Mötley Crüe, Hinder, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Lyzyrd Kyngz, Mötorhead, The Uninvited. THE JEREMIAH SHOW - Featuring Jef Scott! The story of a rock and roll legend. Jef Scott's story is that of LA rock and roll lore...Strap in! Jef's first band was GEISHA. They played the Sunset Strip and toured the U.S.A. After he left GEISHA, Jef formed his own band. After playing a show one night at The Whiskey, he met actor Willie Aames who attended Jef's show. Willie was a teen idol star from the ABC show called EIGHT IS ENOUGH. Willie asked Jef to write songs for an upcoming album he was about to make and their recording sessions ultimately landed Jef to act in the last season of EIGHT IS ENOUGH as Willie's best friend and bandmate. Jef played on Tori Amos' LITTLE EARTHQUAKES, international artists James Reyne( Australia), Paul Hyde (Canada), Gregory Gray (Ireland), The Royal Macadamians, and Olivia Newton-John, to name a few. When Jef wrote songs and recorded James Reyne's album, James invited Jef to be his musical director and put a band together in Australia. Jef moved to Melbourne in late 1987, founded a great band including Andy Cichon (current bass player for Billy Joel), and toured the whole country of Australia for two years. In Australia, Jef formed a band called COMPANY OF STRANGERS. It was and still is one of the most successful albums in Australian history, winning Simon and Jef 3 ARIA Awards. Jef is signed to Sony/Orchard and continues to release new music. He has also written songs for TV shows SONS OF ANARCHY, VAMPIRE DIARIES, BEVERLY HILLS 90210, and MELROSE PLACE For the past 15 years, Jef and his writing partner Cody Marks, have teamed up with Wayne Kramer( MC5) and the organization JAIL GUITAR DOORS, playing concerts at California State prisons. Jef is also the creator and host of the popular podcast featured on Radio Candy Radio, BATWINGS. Interview by Kris Peters & Kyra-Jade CoombsKickAss Festival successfully completed its second year last weekend with a bumper show at Kenilworth Showgrounds that emphatically proved rock music is alive, well and thriving.Held over two days with local acts appearing alongside established bands such as James Reyne, Kingswood, Dragon and the Choirboys, KickAss Festival did just that and more with thousands of music lovers taking advantage of the camping facilities on offer to spend the weekend in rock paradise.HEAVY was granted exclusive media access to backstage interviews on the Saturday, and we managed to corner Kingswood, Choirboys and Lecia Louise for some up close and personal time. After speaking to Alex Laska from Kingswood several times via zoom, it was long overdue that we finally got the chance to talk with him in person, and it didn't disappoint.Kingswood are currently riding the crest of a musical wave that is steadily building to a tidal wave. Following the release of their country inspired album Home earlier this year - an album that has since seen them secure ARIA Awards in that genre - and a massive Australian run of shows, Kingswood are now only days away from heading overseas for another European tour. It seems everything they touch is gold. Until they said yes to this interview.Kyra-Jade Coombs and Kris Peters drew the short straws for the day.Kyra kicked things off by bringing up Kingswood's ever changing sound and whether it is a planned progression musically or more a matter of circumstance."To be honest it's so weird," Alex replied. "You would think there would be a distinct conversation and then there's a strategy behind it where we say we should do this, but honestly Fergus and I love so much music and always have done. We've been musical around each other since we were 12 years old. There are so many different influences. These things happen where we eventually just go 'this is inspiring at the moment, what do you think of this?' And there's so much mystery that has made us who we are musically that at some point, once you've exhausted something, you feel like you become accomplished in it…"Nothing is off limits in the ensuing 30 minutes as we cover everything from touring to festival survival tips. Episode 28 of Season 6 went out live at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 13 July 2023. Following on from The Rock Doctor's Rock Power Play Turbo show it was necessary to keep the pace. It has been freezing in Johannesburg this week with Temperatures getting down below zero and we actually had snow which happens about once every 20 years. It made sense to kick off with The Boomtown Rats ‘Wind Chill Factor Minus Zero'. The big news this week was an interview with the multitalented SA Rock legend Mark Haze. Mark had some kind words to say about the old days when I met him at the very, very start of his musical career. Our 5 minute interview went on a bit longer and would have gone even longer if we didn't call time in the interest of the music. We were incredibly privileged to hear Gareth Haze's new track ‘Home'. Mark is busy working with Gareth on his debut album, really looking forward to hearing it in a few months' time. The Immortals section of the show featured Dire Straits and the opening track of their third album Making Movies. The track is of course ‘Tunnel of Love', it is an amazing preview of how Mark Knopfler was developing as a songwriter and showed the path to their mega-selling Love Over Gold album. This week's Ultimate Challenge was a problem. We looked at 1983 and started with 6 albums. I managed to whittle it down during the week by leaving out Ozzy Osbourne's Bark At The Moon and Mötley Crüe's Shout At The Devil. This left us with Def Leppard – Pyromania, Iron Maiden – Piece of Mind, Dio – Holy Diver, and Metallica – Kill ‘Em All. So very hard, Pyromania sold the most by far, Holy Diver is one of the most beloved debut albums of all time, and Kill ‘Em All changed the face of metal forever. It also marks the point where the Ultimate Challenge ended. Not the concept but the name, it is now known as The Diabolical Challenge. Artists featured: The Boomtown Rats, Skid Row, Ratt, U.D.O., Buckcherry, Extreme, Mammoth WVH, Joel Hoekstra, Disturbed, Shinedown, James Reyne, Cold Chisel, Rory Gallagher, Billy F. Gibbons, The Black Cat Bones, Ignite, Seether, Godsmack, Gareth Haze with Mark Haze, 12th Avenue, Megadeth, Dire Straits, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Dio, Metallica, Butch Walker, David Bowie, The Clash, Tom Petty, Wolfmother, Badlands, winery Dogs, Greta Van Fleet The Story of Rock and Roll. This week Di & Nicola chat with Australian music and entertainment royalty, Lizzi Morrissey. Lizzi started out as a dancer, a former Miss Australia contestant, and in the late 70s she began working in the music industry alongside artists such as Paul Kelly, Split Enz, Jimmy Barnes and Joe Cocker. Lizzi then trained as an actor, performing in theatre and musicals, but her career took a turn when she met her husband, talent agent Mark Morrissey and joined his business. Lizzi went on to nurture the careers of some of the biggest Australian stars. Lizzi also has a gift for PR and organising events and she now runs her own creative management and public relations company, MissusM Creative. Lizzi is a mum to 2 beautiful daughters and a wonderful friend to many, including Di and Nicola. In this chat, Lizzi talks about what it was like working in the music industry in the 70s and 80s and how she started organising gigs all the way back in her high school days. We hear the story of a fundraising event that Lizzi organised as a teen that went wrong, but how her work ethic and ambition ultimately turned it around and led to her first real job offer. Lizzi's career journey is incredibly interesting and inspiring, and we hear all about the twists and turns along the way, the gift Lizzi had for bringing a sense of family and community to Morrissey Management and how she's bringing her unique PR with a heart to her new business, MissusM Creative. Lizzi also does a lot for charity and she shares what it was like doing a 21 day walk along the Great Wall of China, raising money for Olivia Newton-John's Wellness & Research Centre with the likes of Cliff Richard, Joan Rivers, Layne Beachley, Kirk Pengilly, Ian Thorpe, James Reyne, Scott Wolf and of course, Olivia herself. Join Gleeso on Triple M Nights as he welcomes the legendary James Reyne, who is embarking on the highly anticipated 'Way Out West' Tour alongside Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi. With the tour set to kick off on June 23, we get an exclusive preview of what fans can expect, including exciting secret collaborations that are sure to leave audiences buzzing. However, it hasn't been a smooth journey for James Reyne, as he shares the story behind the rescheduling of the first leg of the tour. A mishap in Surry Hills left him with a broken ankle and a cracked rib, prompting him to reflect humorously, "Did I fall over, or did I have a fall? I'm at that age now where it's like, 'Aw, James had a fall.'" In addition to discussing the upcoming tour, the conversation delves into Ella Hooper's recent record, 'Small Town Temple,' and sheds light on how this exciting collaboration between James Reyne and Ella Hooper came to fruition. Listeners are treated to a special rendition of the iconic 1992 hit, 'Way Out West,' originally performed by James Reyne and James Blundell, highlighting the enduring appeal of this timeless track. Furthermore, James Reyne expresses his admiration for the late Broderick Smith of The Dingoes, the original songwriter of 'Way Out West,' and highlights the significant influence he has had on numerous artists, despite often going unrecognized. Gleeso takes a moment to acknowledge James Reyne's immense contribution to Australian music, applauding his role in bringing local talent to the forefront, even amidst the domination of international artists in the market. We also explore the enduring popularity of Australian Crawl's iconic anthem, 'Reckless,' with Gleeso noting that every time he witnesses James Reyne perform it live, the crowd's fervent sing-along is twice as loud, a testament to the lasting impact of the song across the country.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S6E10 kicked off live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 9 Mar 2023. It was great to be back in Benoni after last week's sojourn to Clarens and we celebrated hard. First up was Motörhead and a track off Inferno called ‘In the Year of the Wolf'. From there some classic Led Zep and a track by Michael Monroe co-written by Lemmy called 'The Fine Art of Debauchery'. We had some Def Leppard and some Black Sabbath to keep the big names in the mix and then turned left into the world of Stoner Rock and Queens of the Stone Age. From there we hit some USA Punk with Ramones and The Distillers. This week's elevator speech came from a quick chat I had with Chris Kennedy of Punkfontein and he told us about the new track being released called ‘The Leviathan', we played it, and it's fully cool. We stayed in that zone with Blink 182 and The Killers with a track off Sam's Town called This River Is Wild. I vote The Killers the band most in need of a slap round the head. Such a good album and then nothing. From there it was back to ‘80s metal courtesy of W.A.S.P. and a track called ‘The Rock Rolls On'. This week's Immortals was a track by James Reyne featuring a wailing emotionally charged solo by Jef Scott and especially dedicated to my mate Fanie Marais who loved this album and would have been 72 this week. RIP buddy. From there we heard a brand new track from Bily Squier who, as far as I know, hasn't released anything for 25 years. The track is called ‘Harder On A Woman' and it sounds just like you would expect, well done Billy, welcome back. The Ultimate Challenge this week looked at 4 albums from 2005. Avenged Sevenfold – City of Evil, Foo Fighter – In Your Honor, System of a Down – Violent Pornography, and Audioslave - Out of Exile. Once again there was no clear winner and everyone changed their minds at least once. The brand new track by Deadline called 'My Sweet apocalypse' is really good, over 7 min long it is one of the best tracks these SA metal giants have released. We ended with Iron Maiden and The Halo Effect with tracks called 'Tears of a Clown' and 'Gateways'. Artists Featured: Motörhead, Led Zeppelin, Michael Monroe, Hell Fire, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age, The Distillers, Ramones, Metallica, Crossbone Skully, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Ugly Kid Joe, Airbourne, Punkfontein (Feat Meel Vignetting), Blink 182, The Killers, W.A.S.P., Sebastian Bach, Sophie Lloyd (Feat Matthew K. Heafy), James Reyne, System of a Down, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Avenged Sevenfold, Dave Hause, Bush, Anti-Nowhere League, Iggy Pop, Deadline, Iron Maiden, The Halo Effect. In late 1978, Clutch Cargo was renamed Australian Crawl and started to gain popularity on the pub circuit. The band went on to sell more than one million albums in Australia in the 1980s. In 1987, Reyne released his self titled debut solo album and started the "Rip it Up" tour. The first two singles released from the album, "Fall of Rome" and "Hammerhead. In 1991, Electric Digger Dandy was released. ". It remains Reyne's highest-charting album in Australia, reaching No. 3 on the ARIA albums chart. In 1992, he recorded a duet with country singer James Blundell. Later that year he joined former Sherbet frontman Daryl Braithwaite, Jef Scott and Simon Hussey to create the album Company of Strangers, which spawned three Australian top 50 singles: "Motor City ,"Sweet Love", "Daddy's Gonna Make You a Star. October 1994 saw the release of his fourth album, on the RooArt label, The Whiff of Bedlam, recorded in Los Angeles with Stewart Levine. Reyne returned to the studio in 1997 to work with producer Ashley Caddell. Now signed to Village Roadshow Music, the first release was "Brand New Emperor's Clothes" in October 1997. In 2004 he released Speedboats for Breakfast, which included the singles "Bug" and "The Rainbow's Dead End". Reyne hosted Dig, a music show on ABC2 (2006–2007), and made an appearance on The AFL Footy Show in Melbourne in 2006. In May 2007, he released a new studio album, Every Man a King, which features the singles "Light in the Tunnel" and "Little Man You've Had a Busy Day". A second acoustic album, Ghost Ships, was released in September 2007. In April 2010 Reyne released, TCB (Taking Care of Business), a collection of Elvis Presley covers. The album debuted at number 32 on the ARIA Albums chart. In the Australia Day Honours of 2014, Reyne was recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division "for service to the performing arts as a singer/songwriter, and through support for a range of charitable organisations". Universal Records released a two-CD set, The Anthology, on 1 August 2014. The double album featured all of Reyne's earlier hits on Disc 1 and a collection of his more recent material and radio singles on the Disc 2. In late 2014, Reyne launched a "James Reyne Plays Australian Crawl" series of shows across Australia. Performing only songs from the Australian Crawl catalogue, Reyne stated it was the closest thing to a reunion as fans were ever to get. In July 2019, Reyne released an original song titled "Fearless" for the Australian film Palm Beach soundtrack. In April 2020, Reyne announced the release of his twelfth studio album Toon Town Lullaby, alongside the album's lead single of the same name. Toon Town Lullaby released in July 2020.

In this first episode of season 2 of The Beat Generation, Shayne Brian chats with Oz Rock Music Legend, Graham 'Buzz' Bidstrup. There are not many artists who can say they have looked into the infamous little black book that Bon Scott wrote all of his songs in, or start a band that emerged out of a TV Show, decades before the likes of Idol or The Voice, and certainly very few who can say they have produced some of the legends in Australian music history, yet this man can claim all that and more. From sharing the stage with one of the greatest bands of 70's and 80's, the Angels, through to the heart felt legacy left by Indigenous artist Jimmy Little that has since consumed his years in later life, Graham Buzz Bidstrup has been a manager, a drummer, a guitarist, a producer and an acclaimed songwriter.
