Finally, remember—our planet's future is in our hands. The overwhelming evidence shows that human activity is driving climate change, from record - breaking heat waves to rising sea levels. But the good news? We have the power to fix it. Every choice we make—reducing waste, conserving energy, supporting clean energy—moves us toward a more stable climate. If you're skeptical, ask yourself: What if you're wrong? What if taking action means cleaner air, a stronger economy, and a safer world—no matter what? Isn't that worth considering? Start a conversation today. The facts are out there, and the future is ours to shape. Promote Celtic culture through music at http://celticmusicpodcast.com/. WELCOME THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn. I'm a Celtic musician and host of Folk Songs & Stories. You don't have to send in music or an EPK, and You will get a free eBook called Celtic Musicians Guide to Digital Music. It's 100% free. Just email follow@bestcelticmusic What are Album Pins? THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! Lads, lasses, and leprechauns of good taste—have I told you lately that you're absolutely legendary? You are the heartbeat of this podcast, the reason I spend my days swimming in Celtic tunes instead of, I dunno, training for a competitive Guinness - drinking contest (which I'd obviously win). And it's all thanks to you. Your support isn't just appreciated—it's the very thing that keeps this show from running on sheer luck and leftover whiskey fumes. You fund our genius sound engineer (who makes me sound like I actually know what I'm doing), the wizardly graphic designer, the tirelessly dedicated Celtic Music Magazine editor, and the promotional magic that spreads this music farther than a wandering Irish storyteller. Your generosity buys the music you love and gives me the time to carefully craft each episode—rather than just chucking in a tin whistle solo and hoping for the best. And as a patron, you're not just supporting the show—you're practically knighted by the Celtic music gods themselves. You get exclusive, ad - free, music - only episodes before anyone else (because you're fancy like that). You help shape the Celtic Top 20 with your votes. You unlock free music downloads, sheet music, and your very own private feed to listen your way—whether through Patreon or your favorite podcast app. All this for just $3 a month. That's right—less than the cost of one fancy coffee (or roughly 0.003% the cost of a pint in Dublin on St. Patrick's Day). And yet, that tiny sum keeps the music alive, keeps the community thriving, and keeps you at the very heart of it all. So join us today! Let's keep this music going forever—or at least until we all get distracted by a parade and a questionable amount of irish whiskey.

We constantly have Celtic music on in our house and we are planning a trip to Ireland this summer.  Our trip three years ago got squashed due to the pandemic." Travis Senzaki replied: "Hi Marc, thank you for continuing to put out this podcast year after year! This St. Patrick's Day, the podcast is really my only connection to Celtic culture, so I'll be spending the evening listening with my kids. Over the years of listening, I have moved from the US to rural Japan, where there is no other access to my Irish roots. I have to travel to even find Guinness on tap. But thanks to you, my kids have picked up on Celtic music (or "Daddy's car music", as they call it) and even recognize it when some of the common themes find their way into movie or game music. I hope to continue sharing this music and culture with them as they grow older, and your podcast remains my best resource to do so. Thank you! Thanks again for all you do! I'm looking forward to listening to the St. Patrick's Day episode(s) over a glass, even if I have to pour it from a can. Slainte!" Sarah Shorter replied: "Good morning Marc. We are enjoying some autumn sunshine down in new zealand. I'm listening with my son (18 months old) and he loves the show. St Patrick's for us will be attending play centre (a parent run education centre) where we will be making shamrock fairy bread.( green sprinkles on buttered bread cut out with a cookie cutter) quite a conglomeration of celtic and new zealand cultures. We will also be bringing in a play list to share with the kids ( aged 0 to5 ) I'm just putting it together now starting from the best of 2022 and 2023 Playlist.. Kia Ora"

I have a wonderful opportunity to learn true Co. Clare style from a man who spent a lot of time there. Beginner that I am, I will still be playing tunes on my fiddle to celebrate!" I will be participating in an Irish Road Bowling event with my co - workers at the Green Bank Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia We started back in October, listening to music for Samhain, then continued into November and December with Celtic Christmas ... and really we listen to Celtic music year - round  -  but I will be celebrating Celtic culture by wearing the green on Friday while I'm busy at Ból an bhóthair, then hoisting a proper stout afterwards. Going to a fife and drum reunion in July (in Williamsburg, VA), where I will be playing a heck - ton of good Irish, Scots, and Welsh music (as well as a smattering of German and English marches, because, well, 18th C. Military music was all over the place) We always enjoy your shows!!!" Finally, I'll be activating a new Irish song on my YouTube channel, to share with my subscribers, a tradition I've kept going for over 12 years." Michael Maccarone emailed: "Marc Gunn, I usually download episodes and stockpile them. I listen to them on (my rare) vacations, after I have broken them down into 20 - 25 minute chunks (my mp3 player won't rewind within a track, so I split each episode into 3 - 5 mini episodes, which makes it easier if I missed something and want to go back). You can also find pictures scattered across my different profile pages. If you're thinking of going, I think my favorite things were the cliffs on Achill Island. There were some stunning views. And my absolute favorite was Downpatrick Head. There were more stunning views, but there was a blowhole that went under the cliffs which made it interesting to see too. China is definitely a peril to freedom, not just in America, but around the world. The communist nation has a vision, set forth in its One Belt, One Road initiative, to dominate the world's politics and economies and even culture. And the current CCP president sees the OBOR model making great gains in the coming years, reaching full enactment -- realizing its full vision -- within the next couple decades. But how truthful is the peril of China to American liberties? Author and researcher Josh Kurlantzick doesn't downgrade the dangers of the nation, but says there's a good chance China will be crumbling on its own communism. That's good news indeed.

America, beware. China has a game plan for world dominance and it's called One Belt, One Road -- a morphing of the nation's Silk Road. And once the CCP has put in place all its various Belt and Road, or BRI, systems, the communist tentacles will flow through three quarters of the populations of the world. America will be left playing catch-up. America will be second fiddle on the world stage. America the Great will go the way of Rome and fall to another nation. This is not only a peril to American freedoms. It's a threat to all the free societies of the world. Guest expert Michael Hewitt, retired rear admiral of the U.S. Navy, talks about the coming One Belt, One Road storm.

But that turned out to be the least of his worries after his two brothers were killed when their car lost control on a notoriously deadly bend in his native Sardinia, in Italy. Today, the 25-year-old youth activist and UN staff member uses a creative approach that involves hip-hop concerts and street basketball tournaments to show how young people can be agents for change. What is artificial intelligence (AI) with Chinese characteristics? Why is the Chinese Government labelling AI as a matter of security? How has AI been empowering China's authoritarian governance? Jinghan Zeng, Professor of China and International Studies at Lancaster University, talks about his latest book Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Chinese Characteristics: National Strategy, Security and Authoritarian Governance (Palgrave, 2022) at the Nordic Asia Podcast. In his conversation with Joanne Kuai, PhD candidate at Karlstad University, Sweden and affiliated PhD at the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, Jinghan Zeng introduces his book which argues that China's AI approach is sophisticated and multifaceted, and it has brought about both considerable benefits and challenges to China. The book suggests that a more accurate understanding of AI with Chinese characteristics is essential in order to inform the debate regarding what lessons can be learnt from China's AI approach and how to respond to China's rise as the AI leader, if not a superpower. Jinghan Zeng is Professor of China and International Studies at Lancaster University. He is also Academic Director of China Engagement and Director of Lancaster University Confucius Institute. He plays a key role in supporting the development and implementation of the University's China strategy. He is the author of Slogan Politics: Understanding Chinese Foreign Policy Concepts (2020) and The Chinese Communist Party's Capacity to Rule: Ideology, Legitimacy and Party Cohesion (2015). He is also the co-editor of One Belt, One Road, One Story?: Towards an EU-China Strategic Narrative (2021). The Nordic Asia Podcast is a collaboration sharing expertise on Asia across the Nordic region, brought to you by the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies (NIAS) based at the University of Copenhagen, along with our academic partners: the Centre for East Asian Studies at the University of Turku, and Asianettverket at the University of Oslo. Building effective state institutions before introducing democracy is widely presumed to improve different development outcomes. Conversely, proponents of this "stateness-first" argument anticipate that democratization before state building yields poor development outcomes. In One Road to Riches?: How State Building and Democratization Affect Economic Development (Cambridge UP, 2021), we discuss several strong assumptions that (different versions of) this argument rests upon and critically evaluate the existing evidence base. In extension, we specify various observable implications. We then subject the "stateness-first" argument to multiple tests, focusing on economic growth as an outcome. First, we conduct historical case studies of two countries with different institutional sequencing histories, Denmark and Greece, and assess the "stateness-first" argument (e.g., by using a synthetic control approach). Thereafter, we draw on an extensive global sample of about 180 countries, measured across 1789-2019 and leverage panel regressions, pre-parametric matching, and sequence analysis to test a number of observable implications. Overall, we find little evidence to support the "stateness-first" argument. Learn more about your ad choices.
