The 4th of July is just a couple of days away, and if you hadn't heard...a rather large parade is held in Lebanon. The holiday festivities are so numerous...the fun begins in June! A couple of the hard working organizers, Michael Reynolds and Debbie Ottinger, join us for episode 171. A lot of effort goes into putting it all together, and the pair shares why it's a willing labor of love for the committee.  

Believe it or not, it's the 4th of July this week and we were looking for ways to celebrate that on this week's episode. Henrico County will present its annual Red, White and Lights community celebration of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4 at Meadow Farm Museum at Crump Park, 3400 Mountain Road. Winoka hasn't proven itself to be a favorable place to live and raise a family. With Laura being accused of sassing the boss and bullying the boss's son, Charles and Caroline are on a probation of sorts in regards to their jobs. Jonathan and Mr.Oleson, also employed by Standish, are not fans and would rather be their own bosses. Alice and Harriet are oblivious of how dire things are for everyone else. The one person who seems to be having a bit of good luck/fortune is Toby Noe, the eccentric older gentleman who happens to win the grand prize in the lottery: $5,000. And to show off his new wealth Toby 1) pays off his debt to Standish (smart move) 2) purchases a supply of fireworks for the upcoming 4th of July (giving back) and 3) tries to win Charles for the night.....they need a fuse man for the fireworks. However, a chain of events leads Mr. Oleson and Jonathan quitting their jobs at the Saloon, Toby Noe losing everything he just won and the fireworks and lastly, Charles having a one-on-one with Mary who tells him she is a grown woman now. While Albert nurses an intoxicated Toby Noe, Mr. Oleson also intoxicated heads over to the wheel of fortune/roulette table and starts to win and young Jeff Standish with his goon friend Spencer decided to pull a Carl Sander type stunt by taking advantage of the surplus of fireworks that have been stored directly above the saloon. It's a Fourth of July Celebration like never before.
