Justified: City Primeval is an American neo-Western crime drama television miniseries developed by showrunners Dave Andron and Michael Dinner. The series continues the story from Justified taking inspiration from the Elmore Leonard novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit and short story "Fire in the Hole". Timothy Olyphant returns to star as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, with Paul Calderón also reprising his role as Detective Raymond Cruz from the 1998 crime comedy film Out of Sight, a film adaptation of Leonard's 1996 novel of the same name. A world premiere was held on June 1, 2023, at the 12th ATX Television Festival, and the series premiered on FX on July 18, 2023, with back-to-back episodes. It received generally positive reviews from critics.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

This week, Dana is joined by Slate's books and culture columnist, Laura Miller, and senior editor Rebecca Onion (who are filling in for Julia and Stephen). The panel begins by unraveling Passages, the sexy but also, at times, repelling feature from director Ira Sachs about a complicated love triangle. The film received a controversial NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association. Then, they head to Detroit to discuss Justified: City Primeval, FX's revival of the Raylan Givens cult classic that ran for six seasons. Finally, the three consider Michael Oher's recent legal allegation that the Tuohy family (immortalized in the 2009 Oscar-winning movie The Blind Side) never really adopted him but instead, placed him in a conservatorship. It's a scandal at the fascinating convergence of exploitation, fame, race, and adoption.  In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel examines nature writing and their relationship to the form, inspired by Jonathan Franzen's essay for The New Yorker, “The Problem with Nature Writing.”  Email us at culturefest@slate.com.  Endorsements: Laura: Her quest for a new detective series (that isn't stupid or cliché) is over: Laura endorses Deadloch, a Prime Video comedy set in Tasmania that's equal parts genuine mystery and delicious social satire.  Rebecca: Anya Liftig's memoir, Holler Rat, beautifully recounts her upbringing where she often felt caught between two worlds: the comfortable, upper-middle-class life in Connecticut where she lived, and the summers spent in Appalachia, her mother's home.  Dana: A behind-the-scenes video for, what could potentially be the song of the summer, “I'm Just Ken” has just been released. Hey Decoding TV,David Chen here. Justified is a show that's dear to my heart, so when I heard that they were going to be rebooting it for the streaming era, I was…apprehensive? Justified was one of the few shows that was not only enjoyable throughout its entire run, but also stuck the landing after six seasons. With the first two episodes of Justified: City Primeval hitting Hulu and FX this week, will the reboot bring the show into the modern era, or just become proof that with some great shows, you should leave well enough alone? I'm not sure, but we're going to find out together!Joining me for weekly recaps and reviews of Justified: City Primeval is Sarah Marrs. Sarah is the deputy editor of Lainey Gossip and her work has appeared at Decider and Pajiba. But she's also one of the biggest Justified fans I'm aware of, having watched the entire run of the show many times. I'm so thrilled she'll be joining us to share her love and expertise of Justified! In this preview episode, we discuss what we love about the original Justified, recap the biggest story beats of the show that might be relevant for newcomers, share how we feel about the reboot, and speculate on what we might see on Justified: City Primeval. Justified: City Primeval will premiere tomorrow (July 18th) with its first two episodes, then air weekly. You should expect a weekly recap within 1-2 days of when each episode airs.Your paid contributions at DecodingTV.com help me to fund this podcast and keep it going.
