Ms. Pilgrim is a public relations executive, a classically trained actress, has trained in fine arts and design, and is a certified Adobe Visual Design Specialist who, at the age of 16, moved with her family from Barbados to bustling New York City. Before founding Corelini PR, she moved into the TV and entertainment business as a producer and communications expert, working with celebrities and Fortune 500 companies, such as SHOWTIME (CBS) and Paramount (formerly ViacomCBS), among others.  Finally, transitioning from Hollywood to find her true passion, she found her calling in the technology industry and has worked as a User Experience Designer and Researcher for the past seven years. In addition, after accumulating 10+ years of communications experience, Ms. Pilgrim now runs her own technology public relations firm, Corelini PR, working with top tech leaders to build their brands and media outreach. Today's conversation between host Ryan Dull and Britton Bloch, Vice President of Talent Acquisition Strategy and Head of Recruiting at Navy Federal Credit Union, centers around the balance between technology and people-driven systems. Technology, and especially newly developed AI systems, have the potential to streamline recruiting processes and make talent acquisition far more efficient and effective. However, as Britton explains, these tools are only useful if they're implemented into systems that are already functional. Her work at Navy Federal Credit Union has been a journey of using technology as a supplement, not a crutch. For Britton, technology doesn't tend to create new structures but instead often exacerbates the functions of the structures that are already in place. A well-oiled machine will become even more effective with the right technology, but chaotic and unrefined processes will only create more chaos when paired with technology. Because of this, Britton is wary of trying to adopt new tech too quickly. She prefers to spend the bulk of her time refining and improving her organization's processes and then using technology to supplement a system that's already working well. As Britton tells it, technology is an enabler of systems, not a creator. Prior to his naval service,  Bill dropped out of high school to help his Mom with bills and earned his GED. It was during this time he first experienced the restaurant business and the daily challenges it brings. Now Bill is the owner of the first Capital Tacos franchise, a quick service restaurant brand that is expanding on local success. Bill shares the challenges he faced transitioning from active duty after 16 years of service and the experience of starting his own business; using his lessons learned from the Navy and leveraging his wife's skills as an educator.  Learn more about Capital Tacos here.  About Our Guest  Bill Hoopes opted for helping his mother pay the bills over school growing up. A decision he doesn't regret at all. Though, he did eventually choose to return to education, enrolling in culinary school to hone the craft of cuisine and good food. He took that passion for food to the Navy, where he served for nearly two decades, whipping up food for his fellow soldiers all along the way. He then took the discipline and rigors inherent to military culture to guide him in his next adventure - which was a journey of entrepreneurship. He took over a local softball business in Tampa, while working as a teacher alongside his wife. And in the most exciting move yet, became the very first franchisee in the country for the nationally-awarded Capital Tacos QSR brand - paving the way and setting the stage for other entrepreneurs nationwide to follow in his footsteps.   Join the conversation on Facebook! Note: The interview in this episode first aired in October of 2021 in Season 1, but it features a new gear spotlight.  Don Bentley is a former U.S. Army Apache helicopter pilot who flew QRF in support of Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan. Launching with only a frequency, call sign and last known location of the four-man SEAL reconnaissance element, Don and the QRF flew into harm's way.  One helicopter and the 16 warriors aboard would not make it home. This is a powerful conversation with someone who has spent years dealing with the emotional aftermath of that mission and who has learned to channel those feelings into his writing.   Following his time in the Army, Don worked for General Electric before once again stepping up to serve as an FBI Special Agent focused on foreign intelligence cases and as an FBI SWAT Team member.  Today, Don is the New York Times bestselling author of the Matt Drake series.  His latest book in the series, Hostile Intent, released on May 3, 2022. Today's guest is only the second person in history to ever hold the office of U.S. Attorney General twice.  Bill Barr served as the 77th Attorney General for President George H.W. Bush and the 85th Attorney General for President Donald Trump. His storied law career has taken him from the CIA and the Reagan White House to the Justice Department to General Counsel of major corporations like GTE and Verizon. He recently released his #1 New York Times best selling memoir, One Damn Thing After Another: Memoirs of an Attorney General. The book includes a lifetime of lessons from Barr's childhood through Iran Contra, Pan Am 103 and the LA riots, and takes an unfiltered look at his time serving in the Trump Administration through Russiagate and the Mueller investigation, COVID, civil unrest, election results, and January 6, 2021.      Sponsors: Navy Federal Credit Union: Today's episode is presented by Navy Federal Credit Union.
