Ken Seeley had a great childhood. His dad was a fireman, his mom stayed at home with the family, and didn't have any traumatic experiences growing up that led to his drug use. He did experience bullying throughout junior high and early high school. This turned out to be the catalyst for the drug use that was to come in his teenage years. Ken started getting into alcohol at first at the age of 13 and then was introduced to marijuana... he started despising his parents for not letting him do drugs the way he wanted to. At 18 he signed up for the Air Force to "have his freedom" as he put it, to get away from his parents. While he was stationed in Italy, he started doing drugs heavily. The military sent him to AA and had him honorably discharged. Eventually, his drug of choice became meth. He was doing it every day for 3 to 4 years. Ironically, he was working doing medical billing for a treatment center and was fired from his job due to his erratic behavior. They offered him help at the time but he didn't want to take it. He started avoiding his family, because of his deteriorating health. Financially, he was in ruins. This all quickly spiraled out of control, and Ken found himself at the lowest point in his life. He also developed a sexual addiction, that consumed his personal life. He was suicidal, so he purchased a gun to kill himself, but never went through with it. Eventually, he became celibate for a number of months, until he finally trusted himself to find healthy relationships. Ken finally became sober on July 14th, 1989. From that point on, he has devoted his life and energy to helping others out of addiction and into active recovery. He got a new network of friends that supported him throughout his recovery. He founded "Intervention 911" which is a service specializing in interventions for families looking for the right kind of treatment center for their addiction. Eventually, Ken was asked to be a part of the A&E TV series "Intervention" in 2005, where he served as one of the main three "Interventionists" on the series. In 2009, he published his first book - 'Face It & Fix It: A Three-Step Plan To Break Free From Denial And Discover The Life You Deserve'. Since then, he has been a regular contributor on CNN, FOX & CBS on the topic of addiction. We also delve deep into the current disturbing trend of Fentanyl abuse in kids and Americans in general. Ken truly believes a big wave of opioid addiction is coming and maybe one of the biggest crises we've ever had to deal with as a country. It's time we educate ourselves and get ready for what's to come. This is Ken Seeley in his own words, on Knockin' Doorz Down. Ken Seeley has been professionally and personally involved in recovery since his sobriety date of July 14th, 1989. His experience with recovery and boundless enthusiasm helps him support changes in the lives of people suffering from the disease of addiction. Ken is also an author and founder of Ken Seeley Communities and Intervention 911 in Palm Springs, California. He's been a featured interventionist on the Emmy award winning television series, Intervention, since 2005. At one time, Ken wasn't aware of how trauma played a role in his own struggles with addiction. Ken hopes listeners will look deeper into their own unaddressed or unprocessed trauma and emphasizes that even though some people might not think they are impacted by trauma, many find that if they dig deeper within themselves and expand their understanding of trauma, they can become aware of how they have been impacted. Through learning about complex trauma, specifically through NARM, Ken started to understand what trauma was and how he was impacted by it. His understanding of what trauma can look like broadened beyond the more common ways it's often viewed, such as physical, sexual, and verbal abuse. Ken shares some of the personal experiences he endured from being bullied by his peers in grade school and how this impacted him. Ken appreciates how NARM focuses on asking questions in a curious, nonthreatening, and relational way. He found how supportive it can be to have the space of openness and curiosity that the NARM framework provides for healing.  About Ken: Ken Seeley has remained professionally and personally involved in recovery since his sobriety date of July 14, 1989. He applies his relevant experience and boundless enthusiasm to change the lives of people suffering from the disease of addiction. His innate compassion for fellow addicts continually bolsters his ability to connect and communicate with addicts and their families. Ken's remarkable success rate has turned him into one of the most sought-after interventionists in the country. This past weekend I had the unique opportunity to cover the "Victoria's Voice: An Evening to Save Lives" benefit at the Westgate here in Vegas. Licensed social workers, advocates, and former addicts talked about the problems and strides they are working on to help treat metal illness and addiction throughout the event. The event is held in honor of Victoria Seigel, who lost her battle with addiction at the age of 18.Music producer and artist Damon Elliot released a new single "Shine the Light" with many celebrities in attendance including Marc Mero, Michael Lohan, and Dionne Warwick. We were able to catch up with two stars of hit reality shows.First I talked to Ken Seely who is a series regular on the A & E hit show “Intervention”. Having worked with many family's suffering from addiction, we get his insights on the crisis, his opinions on possible solutions, and why the show has impacted so many viewers.Steve Cederquist  is best known for his work on the HGTV hit show “Flip or Flop”. He recently started to talk about his addiction recovery. We talked about that process and his hurdles in recovery, as well as the real estate market in Las Vegas and his future projects.

Across the screen came this story of an alcoholic, way out of control, and the family who was trying to save her. As the intervention process unfolded before my eyes, I felt like I was seeing my future right in front of me. I knew in an instant that I wanted to do this work, and I knew I was made for it.
