Just before Rosh Hashanah, Rev. Dr. Andrew Bennett, a Catholic community leader in Ottawa, launched a campaign to convince more of his Christian colleagues to take a public stand against spiking antisemitism. Bennett, a deacon with a Ukrainian-Greek Catholic shrine in the national capital, made the Canadian Christian Declaration Against Antisemitism, hoping to receive a few hundred signatures by the time his petition closed on Oct. 25. To his delight, more than 700 people joined his initiative, including faith leaders from many Christian denominations—including leaders from Catholic, Anglican, United and Evangelical churches. So what happens next? Bennett has committed to put the declaration's words into action, with plans to hold a summit in 2025 for interfaith leaders. His ultimate goal is to establish a year-long program to pair individual congregations, schools and groups for in-person events and Shabbat dinners. On today's The CJN Daily, Bennett joins to explain why he believes Christians have an ancient moral and religious responsibility to protect and encourage their “Jewish cousins”, and why he believes Canadians–including Christians and also Muslims–cannot remain silent in the face of record-breaking anti-Jewish hate crimes. Text and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Donald Trump went on one of the worst tears ever this week on social media, raging about everything that is going wrong with his life. But at one point, he took a bizarre detour and demanded that Judge Juan Merchan lift the gag order that he's still under so that he can name the members of the jury. Trump is free to attack the jury, but he is NOT allowed to mention anyone by name for very obvious reasons. Also, a top Republican donor is lashing out at Donald Trump over his embrace of what the donor calls the "kook" rejects from the Democratic Party. Specifically, the donor is angry about Trump's alliances with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard. The donor says that Trump should focus on winning over Nikki Haley's voters, but he likely won't do that because it is actually a smart campaign strategy. And Donald Trump may have completely bottomed out this week as everything around him crashes and burns. During one of his many rants on social media this week, Trump accused Kamala Harris of having "fake numbers" on social media after it became clear that she was getting more engagement on her posts than he was. This sent Trump into an absolute frenzy, as his number one concern is still ratings. Finally, Donald Trump had a friendly interview with Dr. Phil McGraw this week, and the convicted felon wasn't afraid to show the doctor just how insane he really is. At one point during the interview, Trump claimed that he could easily win California but Democrats have it so "rigged" that the only way for him to win would be for Jesus to come down from heaven to count the votes. McGraw didn't push back on this claim AT ALL, which is a testament to his pathetic lack of skills. On a recent Thursday night, renowned television personality Dr. Phil McGraw hosted an eagerly awaited interview showcasing the presumptive Republican choice, Donald Trump, which was succeeded by a town hall meeting in the company of his audience. In the midst of the town hall debate, a questionnaire was distributed amongst the Dallas-based crowd, the question posed being whether they would consider voting for a convicted felon for the seat of the president. Based on the responses received, it was observed that a resounding 91 percent were in favor of casting their vote to a person regardless of their criminal history, leaving the minority, or merely nine percent, opposing the idea. Upon witnessing the surprising results, Dr. Phil expressed, 'The reasoning could range from believing the conviction was unjust to thinking it was a corporate crime. However, we need to scrutinize this issue in greater detail.' Prior to his insightful tête-à-tête with Mr. Trump, Dr. Phil had been quite vocal about his disagreement with the verdict passed on the erstwhile president. At one point, he pointed out, 'Abusing the authority of our respected institutions – such as the FBI, Justice Department, and comparable state entities – could steer us towards two potential directions.' Dr. Phil described these two possible outcomes: 'The first could involve both sides pulling each other down in a seemingly justifiable, reciprocal manner. However tempting that might seem, it is not how we want America to progress. The other, more constructive option I beseech you to request from your political representatives: a cessation of this current state of political and judicial madness, a necessary measure to protect and preserve the very essence and rationality of our nation.'See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In March 2001, I was granted a five-day opportunity to be locked in a room on The Oprah Winfrey Show with Dr. Phil McGraw and 41 other human beings, from around the country, for five days, in The Get Real Challenge. The 42 of us were filmed from morning to night even while we were just interacting with one another, on an informal basis, outside of Harpo Studios. Those five days felt like a lifetime and by the time we were preparing to head home, I had transformed into someone else…who was ready to bring my creative side out of hiding so it could live and breathe real air. At the end of that journey, myself and the other 41 human beings who were participating in the experiment, were required to make a written contractual declaration about who we'd evolved into after spending time with Dr. Phil. In this episode, I'll share my declaration and reveal how it and HSD are helping me to navigate the restless waters flowing through my life right now. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/patternsandpossibilities/message

The shift from side hustle to entrepreneur, ghostwriter to author is in many ways, a shift from self-imposed obscurity to visibility and standing in our own worth. Many of us are conditioned to promote others, be in the background, obligate and accommodate to a point where we end up not taking up the space we deserve. When we become the face of something, we're vulnerable to everything, and that's a scary step to take. Letting ourselves become visible is the act of self-realization that brings forth our true genius. It's easier said than done, but it is worth it. This week we explored the “how to” of stepping in with Kristen McGuiness, co-founder, Vice President, and Editor-at-Large of Row House, a disruptive publishing imprint at the intersection of wellness + social justice. How did Kristen go from ghostwriter in the background to stand in her own individual power? How is she balancing creativity with motherhood and entrepreneurship? In this episode, the founder of Storyboxing and bestselling author of 51/50, talks about her journey and how she was able to stand in what she's good at. I do believe that children are a great source of self-realization. I wanted them to see who I really am, I didn't want them to grow up with a version of me that wasn't my greatest potential. -Kristen McGuiness Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode -Children are a great source of self-realization How did motherhood push Kristen to start standing in her own individual power? -Rejection, revision, next step What is a kind and creative way to deal with obstacles? -Detach from approval How do we stop seeking validation from others and build our value so we can really rely on the attitude towards ourselves? Guest Bio Kristen McGuiness is the founder of Storyboxing, which provides content, coaching and courses for people looking to write the good fight. In addition, she is a co-founder, Vice President, and Editor-at-Large of Row House, a disruptive publishing imprint at the intersection of wellness + social justice, founded by best-selling author Rebekah Borucki. Kristen is also the bestselling author of 51/50: The Magical Adventures of a Single Life, which was optioned by Original Films/CBS Cable with Alison Brie attached to star. She has over twenty years' experience in book development, writing, and editorial, working with such authors as Dr. Phil McGraw, Dr. Stephen Covey, Chris Matthews, Leon Logothetis, Joe Gorga, Darren Prince, Rebekah Borucki, and more. She began her career working in publicity for St. Martin's Press before joining the editorial departments of Simon & Schuster, Free Press, and Judith Regan at Harper Collins. Since then, Kristen has also worked in non-profit fundraising as a strategic grants and marketing director, helping to raise millions for local and international non-profits. Kristen has appeared on the “TODAY Show,” in USA Today, and in Marie Claire, and has written for numerous publications, including Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, Psychology Today, Salon and The Fix. Monday night's 'Hannity' featured a segment in which Dr. Phil McGraw shared his perceptions and insights from his recent journey to Texas' southern border. The main focus was the rising discontent among border patrol agents about the approach of the Biden administration towards the escalating situation of unlawful immigration. McGraw, once a familiar presence on day-time talk shows, was motivated by a desire to truly comprehend the circumstances at the border, as conveyed by those tasked with managing the accelerating influx of migrants. Based on his conversations with border patrol agents, McGraw described a disturbingly higher figure of undocumented immigrants who had arrived since President Biden assumed office. Contrary to the official claims of around six million new arrivals, border officials cited figures around the 13 to 14 million mark. McGraw conveyed these startling numbers to Sean Hannity, emphasizing that they come not as exaggeration or speculation but directly from knowledgeable enforcement officers on the ground. The question of resources was addressed head-on when McGraw relayed the main needs expressed by these border patrol agents. To his surprise, they sought not additional funding, manpower, or legislation. Instead, they yearned for existing immigration laws to be upheld and consistently enforced. This underlines their perspective that the crisis can be swiftly managed if they are permitted to fulfill their duties as stipulated by current policies. Furthermore, the urgency of adhering to, and enforcing legislating pertaining to, immigration laws was echoed when the officers confidently stated that the crisis could be rectified almost 'overnight' if they were allowed to do their jobs without unnecessary restrictions or bureaucratic red tape. This shines a light on a disconnect between policy implementation at the upper levels and the ground realities encountered by those in the thick of it at the border.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In a recent announcement from the Missouri Department of Corrections, as reported by Ozarks First and the Springfield News-Leader, Gypsy Rose Blanchard, previously convicted for her part in her mother's murder, has been granted parole. Scheduled for release on December 28, 2023, Gypsy will have completed nearly 85% of her decade-long sentence by then. This case has remained in the public's consciousness not just due to its chilling nature, but also because of its portrayals in multiple documentaries and series. Back in July 2016, Gypsy, now 32, admitted her guilt in the harrowing killing of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. The judicial system handed down a 10-year prison term. Before this, Gypsy had also spent some time in Greene County Jail, which is credited towards her overall prison time. The backdrop to this crime was disturbing. Dee Dee Blanchard's lifeless body was discovered in June 2015, leading authorities to swiftly charge both Gypsy and her then-boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, with first-degree murder. As investigations progressed, a disturbing narrative surfaced. Dee Dee had manipulated everyone - from family members to friends and the wider community - into believing that her daughter was a terminally ill teenager, with the cognitive capability of a 7-year-old, battling multiple diseases including muscular dystrophy and leukemia. Adding to this twisted tale, Gypsy recounted that her mother silenced her during medical consultations, issuing warnings that escape attempts would be futile as law enforcement wouldn't credit her accounts. Reflecting on her turbulent past in the 2018 documentary Gypsy's Revenge, Gypsy divulged, "I couldn't just jump out of the wheelchair because I was afraid and I didn't know what my mother would do. I didn't have anyone to trust.” After her sentencing in 2016, she confided to Dr. Phil McGraw, "I don't believe [I] deserve as many years as I got. I believe firmly that murder is not okay. But I also understand why it happened, and I don't believe that I'm in the right place to get the help that I need.” Her ex-boyfriend, Godejohn, also 32, faced a different fate. In 2019, the Springfield News-Leader, in tandem with local channels KY3 and KOAM, reported his life sentence without parole possibility. This stemmed from his indisputable role in the 2015 fatal stabbing. Godejohn, who met Gypsy online and journeyed from Wisconsin to be with her in Missouri, reminisced about his time with her in a 2019 prison interview for the Oxygen special Gypsy Rose & Nick: A Love to Kill. “Those five days were the most intense, magical, and awe-inspiring days I've ever had,” he claimed. However, the relationship between Blanchard and Godejohn has since fizzled out. PEOPLE magazine was informed by a close family friend in April 2019 that Gypsy had found new love, becoming engaged to a man she got to know while incarcerated. This gripping story attracted widespread media attention, leading to its depiction in the HBO documentary Mommy, Dead and Dearest, and was the inspiration behind Hulu's miniseries The Act. He explains that individuals with this disorder display a pattern of disregarding or violating the rights of others, either by ignoring them or actively harming them.
