ABOUT KENNETH COPEKenneth Cope is an American composer and performer of religious music geared towards Latter-day Saints. Hisy first solo album, Heaven—Don't Miss It For The World (released in 1988), was created out of this desire to make music to help strengthen the youth of the Church. I also continued to work on EFY recordings. Then came Greater Than Us All (1989), with the songs “His Hands” and “Never a Better Hero.” In 1991, I released another contemporary album titled Voices, with the song “Face to Face.” Then came the theme-based projects: My Servant Joseph (1993) and Women at the Well (1995). These were followed by Stories from Eden's Garden (1998), A Prayer unto Thee (1999), Joseph Smith—the Seer (2000), and Hear My Praise (2002). In 2005, the record company released Face to Face—Kenneth Cope Collection. My most recent full album was born in 2008, titled All About You. And in 2012, I most recently created three new contemporary inspirational songs for the youth of the Church to go along with the year's youth theme…the EP is called Rise and Shine.Cope lived in Houston, Texas, during his high school years and attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Switzerland and France from 1980 to 1982. He currently resides in Salt Lake City, Utah and has served as a bishop. He has been closely associated with the music of Especially for Youth (EFY), with seven EFY albums having songs he composed.Kenneth and his wife have three children KENNETH COPE SOCIALSKenneth's Website - http://kennethcope.com/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kenneth.m.cope/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/kenneth.cope SON OF MAN MUSICIAL SOCIALSSon of Man Musical - https://sonofmanmusical.com/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/sonofmanmusicalKickstarter - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1606969623/son-of-man-the-musical-two-album-cast-recording ABOUT PAUL CARDALLWebsite - www.paulcardall.com/podcastFacebook - @paulcardallmusicIG - @paulcardallTwitter - @paulcardallYoutube - @cardall Paul Cardall, a Dove Award-winning musician, composer, and producer, has earned acclaim from Forbes, which notes that his music creates an atmosphere for relaxation, reflection, and meditation. In Part Two of their conversation, Paul Cardall and Peter Breinholt delve into the world of Mormon music and LDS culture. A multi-million dollar industry, Mormon music is relatively unknown. As the Church expanded its membership beyond Utah's borders, so did the audience for recording artists who are members of the LDS Church or create music with Mormon themes. Both Paul and Peter have their roots in Mormonism, which adds depth and insight to this episode, particularly for those unfamiliar with mainstream Mormonism or the LDS Church. About a month ago the LDS church announced that they had made sweeping changes to the Temple ordinances, specific the endowment. With that in mind I thought now would be a good time to have a conversation about the Temple. I though about how to do this without revealing to much. Lucky for me I know a Temple President. On this episode I have on Dan Hatch. Dan is the Temple President for The Righteous Branch of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter day Saints in a Temple where the original ordinances are still practiced so Dan is uniquely qualified to talk about these changes. We cover why the ordinances shouldn't changes, what covenants we make in the Temple and what they mean, and even get into certain covenants that used to be made in the LDS Temple that are no longer given. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dave-kirkenbower/support
On the latest "Tuesday Tangents" of Mormon Book Reviews, Chris Jensen author of the book "Obscure Mormon Doctrine: Uncommon Beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" returns to discuss what is the main purpose of LDS Temples. Saving ordinances for the dead is a very unique practice of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On this special episode Chris discusses the logistics of baptizing well over 100 Billion deceased human souls. Why is there a rapid increase in the building of temples? Could this mean the Return of Christ is imminent? I want to thank Chris for joining the "rotation" of interesting guests and topics we cover on Tuesdays.

HULU's recent mini-series "Under the Banner of Heaven" based on the 2003 Jon Krakauer book with the same title has led to listeners emailing to ask about the accuracy of the book and mini-series. In this episode host Martin Tanner explains how Krakauer in this and prior books leaves out critical facts, paints heroes as bad and suffers from other major flaws. Among them are (1) the misleading idea that Ron and Dan Lafferty are "Mormons" when they were earlier excommunicated and had started their own church; (2) the lie that Lafferty's murdered because they were following the "oath of vengeance" in LDS Temples, when there has never been such an oath; (3) Ron and Dan were influenced by Brigham Young who ordered the massacre at "Mountain Meadows" even though Brigham Young explicitly and in writing did the opposite. Krakauer's methodologies in "Under the Benner of Heaven" on consistently bad, just as in his prior book "Into Thin Air" in which he criticizes a competing Mt. Everest guide who saved all of his hikers, when Krakauer's group suffered the death of eight climbers. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

0034 - In this episode I am joined again by David Halevy from Builders of Israel. In this episode we discuss what the Biblical Temple was and why it existed. We discuss the nature of the Temple in light of the Mosaic and Abrahamic Covenants. We talk about how the Temple was about the way we relate to Yahweh (God) and how the Temple showed us how unworthy we were. We then discuss how all that changed with Jesus' death on the cross. We then compare the Biblical understanding of the Temple with the LDS Temples that have nothing at all in common. We talk about where much of the LDS Temple ceremonies come from and how they have nothing to do with what happened in the Temple in the first century. I hope you will be challenged and encouraged by this episode.
In the 19th and early 20th century, there are many examples Mormon women healers. These women used to lay hands on the sick. By what power did they do this? https://youtu.be/HxqcxwzP2gE GT: I remember as a priest growing up and having the lesson over and over: priesthood is the power to act in the name of God. Jonathan: Okay. GT: Okay. Jonathan: That is a common definition. GT: A common definition. So, what I heard you say was that women in the 1800s especially, but even into the 20th century, healed both men and women, probably more women than men, but it happened with both genders. They healed by the power of God. But it's a mistake to call that priesthood. Is that correct? Jonathan: Yeah. So, using today's definitions to describe historical practice doesn't work. GT: Okay. Jonathan: It just doesn't work. GT: So, it's hard to talk about then. Jonathan: So it's consequently challenging. Right? So, well then how do we talk about it? Honestly, this was a fun and challenging conversation. Stapley says that the term "priesthood" used today, while a definition is "the power of God", priesthood also implies ecclesiastical authority. Women can freely utilize "the power of God," but since they don't have ecclesiastical authority, it is a mistake to call the healing blessings they did "priesthood." For me, the terms "power of God" and "priesthood" were so synonymous, that I didn't understand the distinction Stapley was making. Check out how Jonathan clears up my misunderstanding. He also gives us more information on baptisms for health, and temple healers. I was not familiar with temple healers. It turns out that women often fulfilled this (now defunct) practice of a temple healer. Jonathan: There are examples of people being baptized in the Kirtland era and being healed upon their baptism, but an actual healing ritual, a designated ritual, baptism for health occurs in Nauvoo. It's designed to be, I think it envisioned as part of the temple. So, the temple is a place for healing, specifically Joseph Smith envisions it as a place where the sick would come and not only receive an endowment of power and create heaven, but also be physically healed. Baptism for health was an integral piece of that healing liturgy, but it is immediately and ubiquitously performed outside of the temple. So in the rivers and wherever the Latter-day Saints go from that point forward, baptisms for health are common. As soon as the temples are built, there are regular days for baptisms for health. So, if you're feeling unwell, you could make a pilgrimage to the temple. One of the temple healers could baptize you for your health. GT: In the temple? Jonathan: In the temple, and they kept records. In fact, the single most common temple ritual for many years in the 1880s was baptism for health. So there was more baptisms for health for the living. I should qualify that. The most common ritual for the living in the temples was baptism for health. Early Mormon women anointed with oil and laid hands on the sick to heal. You should also check out our previous conversation where we talk about "cosmological priesthood." Check out our conversation….. [paypal-donation]
Welcome to the Construction Career Podcast, where Kent Jones and Cliff Hampton interview people in various positions in the construction industry to shed insight on the different Cultures, Roles & Careers in construction today. In today's episode we interview: Ryan Dain of Westland Construction. Ryan was recently our superintendent on separate projects in Chicago and Denver. Ryan has worked on LDS Temples in various locations around the world. He talks about some of the problems that come from working overseas. He also discusses some of what he believes are the most important keys to success in his career: Family and Construction can mix. Hard Work is what makes the difference. Relationships are the primary key to success and/or failure. Honesty and Integrity (especially in construction) cannot be emphasized enough. Westland Construction
[paypal-donation] The November 2015 Policy is called by some the POX, or Policy of Exclusion. The policy excludes children of gay Mormons from being blessed, baptized, or ordained in the LDS Church. Greg Prince came to Utah back in September to discuss the science of being gay, and we talked about that in our last episode. In our next conversation we'll ask about theological justifications of the ban. What does Greg Prince think about this policy? Greg: I think this policy has done a lot of damage, and that's not just a supposition. You can put real numbers behind that. I don't like to be in the position of explaining to the president of the seminary why my church is whacking infants. But I didn't explain that. I said, “David, I don't understand this anymore than you do.” Because there is nothing in LDS theology that I know of that justifies whacking infants; they are pure and sin-free. We are punishing them with this policy. We'll also ask about the common questions: will the LDS Church be forced to marry gay members in the LDS Temples? What does Greg Prince think about that? Greg: I'm telling you it's an empty justification. It's scare talk. It has no basis in reality.... it's a bankrupt argument. We'll talk a little bit about the history of marriage in the LDS Church for heterosexual couples, and I think Greg has an interesting point right at the outset that you may find interesting. Greg: Up until 1960s within the United States you could have a civil wedding ceremony and go to the temple the next day to be sealed. GT: Until the ‘60s. Greg: Yeah, late ‘60s. GT: Wow. Why did that change? Check out our conversation….. and tells us your thoughts about this interview! [paypal-donation]
This next episode is full of surprises! I've got 2 sample quotes below! Mormons know that the Kirtland Temple is currently owned by the Community of Christ, rather than the church based in Salt Lake City. Have you ever wondered why the Mormons in Salt Lake City don't own that temple? I asked Dr. Richard Bennett that question, a BYU professor of Church History and Doctrine, and was really surprised by his answer! I had no idea Church leaders ever considered selling LDS Temples! https://youtu.be/l4b_g5gW6SY https://gospeltangents.com/shop/transcripts/selling-lds-temples/ Brigham Young and the Quorum of Twelve made the conscious decision, not publicized to too many people that we needed to sell off the temples... Have you heard this before? Dr Bennett also said that the US government, and Missouri actually saved the saints! We think of Missouri as being the great enemy of the church. It was of course in the 1830s, the expulsion by Governor Boggs and what have you. But as we were moving west, many of the saints went down into Missouri on side trips to work for the season wherever that might be, building fences, harvesting crops. We have an interesting paradox that Missouri saved the Church heading west in 1846-47. Were you aware of this? Check out the video and transcript below, or get one on Amazon!
