Shalyce grew up riding horses in the mountains of AZ, beginning with a Welsh pony she fell in love with, who died when Shalyce was 8-years old.Adolescence and young adulthood took her away from horses as she pursued a degree in human development, got married and had six children who she dedicated her early adulthood to. With three babies under four years of age, Shalyce earned her master's degree in educational psychology. Always in the back of her mind was her desire to open an equine therapy facility. Instead, she began teaching online psychology and human development classes so that she could stay home with her kids while also homeschooling them.Three months after her sixth child was born, Shalyce adopted a mustang from the Canon City facility, with no idea what she was getting herself into. Life then taught her how little she knew about horses and about our mind and behaviors. Her mustang, Silveny, and a later mustang named Freedom, became her lifeline through some incredibly difficult experiences, and they became the best teachers of her life.Shalyce continues teaching psychology classes online, supporting her kids—who are now all in public school, and sharing the lessons learned from her mustangs. She is still aiming to work with horses to help humans. Although, it seems it may be unfolding differently than she originally envisioned.Book Shalyce Mentioned:The Illusion of Money: Why Chasing Money Is Stopping You from Receiving ItConnect with Shalyce:Instagram: the.touch.of.a.mustangFacebook: The Touch of a MustangX: The Touch of a MustangTikTok: The Touch of a MustangEmail: thetouchofamustang@gmail.comWebsite: Thetouchofamustang.comMusic by Justin TammingaMusic provided by Justin Tamminga

RODNEY M. CLUFF, author of World Top Secret: Our Earth IS Hollow! was born and raised in the American Mormon colony of Colonia Juarez in northern Mexico. He became interested in the Hollow Earth Theory at the age of 16 while working on a New Mexico farm where the farm manager's son told the workers of the theory. He expressed his opinion to the workers that he thought the Hollow Earth would be an ideal place for the Lord to hide the Lost Tribes of Israel! This comment really caught Rodney's interest, and he determined he would like to look further into this idea. Many years later, while working for Armored Car in Phoenix, Arizona, Mr. Cluff noticed an advertisement of Raymond Bernard's book, The Hollow Earth in a tabloid newspaper. He sent for it and thereby began many years of study and writing which has led to the present work.
Kimberly Cluff, as the legal director of the California Tribal Families Coalition, sat in as the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in the Brackeen v. Haaland case last November. The case is about an adoption and directly threatens the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978, which sought to put an end to centuries of Native American children being taken from their families and put up for adoption by white families. More than that, Brackeen proponents are trying to undermine hard-earned sovereignty by tribes, arguing that their status is unconstitutional under the 10th Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." If successful, the dismantling of ICWA would also threaten the tribes' ability to protect their land and resources from outside forces. The case is expected to be decided any day now. Before ICWA it was common practice to remove native children from their parents, in fact, as many as 25-30 percent were put up for adoption. As Cluff discusses, it was merely one part of centuries-long abuses against America's first residents. In California, some of the needs are even more grave, with poverty and health issues outpacing any other group. Cluff is the daughter of Ojai icons Don and Sheila Cluff, attended Cal Berkeley and Hastings Law before becoming involved with native American issues. We also talked about the Vatican on March 30th renouncing its "Doctrine of Discovery" by which it sought to "Christianize the world," which has been in effect since 1455 and was used in legal arguments in the U.S. as recently as 2005. We also talked about growing up in Ojai and being eager to escape, then having your own children and being just as eager to return. We did not talk about ChatGPT4, Louis C.K. standup routines or the Romans' Lost Legion.
My friend Julie Cluff joins us from her home in Tennessee to share the story of being the driver of the vehicle, when she fell asleep, resulting in a rollover car accident that claimed the lives of her 10-year-old daughter Carrie and her 8-year-old son David. The accident happened on Mother's Day in 2007. It is a parent's worst nightmare. Julie bravely shares her story of grief/darkness and then her path to find peace and hope. It is a powerful story. Julie talks about the book she wrote in 2020 called “Miracles in the Darkness: Building a Life after Loss”, her work as a grief coach and trainer, and podcaster. If you are in grief¸ Julie's podcast will help you. She talks about therapy, Jesus, her husband, friends, and the work she did personally to find hope and peace after unimaginable loss. And you might feel impressed to read her book and/or become a grief coach to help others. Thank you, Julie, for being on the podcast and your needed work in our community and beyond. This week's show again started out with some personalized thank you shout-outs to some of the founding members of our new, independent website, which is under construction. We'll keep the GoFundMe open until April 1, so if you're still waiting for payday or on the fence about contributing, you've still got time to get yourself immortalized on the new site. Now, on to why you're here... Orlando City is getting you a tie for Father's Day. That's pretty obvious after the Lions drew for the third consecutive match, splitting the points in a 1-1 draw at D.C. United on Saturday. Getting a point against Wayne Rooney on the road almost (but not quite) feels like a win, especially when it was achieved with a heavily rotated side. That side included the first Orlando City starts for Rafael Santos and Duncan McGuire. As fate would have it, McGuire turned out to be the player who finally ended Orlando City's long, national nightmare of going scoreless in the run of play. The rookie's first professional goal wasn't exactly a highlight-reel strike, but he won't care and neither do we. His back flip, however, was quite gorgeous. The setup by Kyle Smith and Dagur Dan Thorhallsson that led to the goal was also nice to watch. Unfortunately, Chris Durkin spoiled things by scoring an unstoppable goal that even the stunning form of Pedro Gallese was powerless to prevent. Durkin might not ever score a goal that precise ever again, and it kind of sucks that it came against Orlando City, but a road point in the midst of heavy rotation due to fixture congestion isn't all bad. After breaking down the match, we submit our picks for Man of the Match against United. It was not as unanimous as you might expect, despite Gallese's heroics in the first half. We also talked a little about tonight's showdown with Tigres, Orlando City's Leagues Cup bracket, and an honor for El Pulpo. The Orlando Pride are quickly closing in on both their final preseason match — this Friday against the Washington Spirit — and their first game of the 2023 NWSL season. The team got a jump on its postseason to-do list, however, by signing midfielder Mikayla Cluff to a new three-year deal. Cluff was already under contract for 2023, but the new agreement extends her stay in Orlando through 2025. We also discussed the announcement of OCB's 2023 schedule (finally) and some of the quirky new rules in MLS NEXT Pro this season. If nothing else, MLS NEXT Pro is going to get weird. We talk about some of those rule changes and compare them to stuff from another sport going through some twists and turns. This week's mailbagbox was small, but mighty. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we looked ahead to Saturday night's home game against Charlotte FC, complete with our key match-ups and predictions. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 330 went down: 0:15 - The Lions kept not losing this week but also kept not winning. We talk about the trip to D.C. 46:29 - Pride and OCB news! The Pride locked down a midfielder and the Young Lions are going to have some strange new rules to play by in 2023. 1:07:09 - Our mailbagbox asks us to rate our excitement for the Tigres match and the return of Ted Lasso. Over the past few episodes, I've been talking specifically about how to handle many of the eating and food challenges that we face during the holiday season. One topic that isn't always easy to talk about is the topic of grief caused by the death of a loved one. And so I decided to bring in the expert, one of my former clients and grief coach and trainer, Julie Cluff, to the podcast to talk about this sensitive subject. In this conversation, you'll hear us talk about: how to navigate the holidays when you feel overwhelmed with all of the emotions of losing a loved one the importance of self-care during the holidays as it relates to your grief the different ways that grief shows up for people how to respond to people when they ask, why the holidays are “still so difficult for you”. Julie shares some valuable information about processing grief and sadness while still feeling love. You don't want to miss this conversation. Julie Cluff joins us for this episode all about healing from experiences of grief, and finding the hope that is to be had through Jesus Christ and His Atonement. Julie shares her deeply poignant experiences of loss including the death of her brother by suicide, divorce, and losing her two youngest children in a rollover car crash on Mother's Day in 2007. She illustrates her personal process of healing, including the miracles offered to her both before and after each instance of loss and pain. Julie has exhibited discipleship throughout the experiences, and especially as she followed impressions to use her grief to benefit and bless others in similar situations. We discuss what tools and practices are available to those going through such heart-wrenching challenges. We rejoice in the doctrines of pre-mortality, the resurrection, and a God who does not punish, but who only blesses. In an age when "mens hearts [are] failing them", this episode will help prepare all of us who may be called to pass through sorrow, as we focus heavily on our source of healing, truth, and relief, our Savior, Jesus Christ. In this episode, Cheryl and Julie discuss: Things happen as they were meant to happen Letting yourself feel the pain and the grief What are you supposed to do with your suffering? Going back and reframing past experiences Key Takeaways: Things happen as they were meant to happen. There's no use trying to wish for time to rewind nor is there any use in dwelling in the darkness and blaming yourself for what happened. Let yourself be able to experience how bad you feel, it's okay for you to be in pain, it's okay for you to grieve. Don't stop yourself from grieving, express it and let yourself feel. Don't let shame and guilt bury you alive. When you're done climbing over that mountain, you can then go and help others who are going through a similar journey. Children are resilient. For adults, the journey to healing can sometimes be done by going back to your childhood experiences, reframing them and understanding them on another level. “If the loss still exists… we think - then the grief still exists, the pain is still there. But there's actually a process to separate ourselves from the loss and the pain. We can heal the pain while still recognizing that the loss is part of our lives.” — Julie Cluff Check out Julie Cluff's book, “Miracles in the Darkness: Building a Life After Loss” by ordering it through this link: https://www.amazon.com/Miracles-Darkness-Building-Life-After/dp/1462137520 Connect with Julie Cluff: Website: https://buildalifeafterloss.com Podcast: https://buildalifeafterloss.com/blog Email: julie@buildalifeafterloss.com Instagram: http://instagram.com/buildalifeafterloss Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/buildalifeafterloss Phone: 832-515-4632 Get in Touch with Cheryl: Website: www.cherylknows.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwvWKXBC6fKn1dLGY11hxIg Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dynamiteproductionsinc LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cherylknowlton/ Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine Talla Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. Acclaimed Filmmakers and Camino Pilgrims, Bill and Jennifer, just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. As I talked with this Australian-based couple, I was so touched by their sweet interactions with one another and their Camino stories. Bill's best-selling Camino Memoir, "The Way, My Way" is one of the funniest and most inspiring books I've read about walking the Camino. In this interview, you will hear how Bill credits his first Camino for helping him to be able to write a film about intuition. He had long wanted to make this movie after an intuitive moment saved his life several years ago. Since his solo Camino, he and Jennifer have walked several more together, led Camino tour groups, and walked additional Pilgrimage paths. You will hear how the Camino has enriched their lives so much that they now define lives as "before Camino" and "after Camino". Their beautiful and moving film about intuition, "PGS – Intuition is your Personal Guidance System", was just released in the US. Please check out Bill's book, their newest film, and more at the links below. Buen Camino! ***Please note, I had some WIFI issues during the interview so there are a few moments where the audio was impacted. Julie Cluff is a speaker, author, international grief coach and the owner of Build a Life After Loss, where she helps those who are grieving to rebuild their life after loss. She hosts the Build a Life After Loss podcast, and she is the author of the book Miracles in the Darkness, in which she shares her experiences with grief, including the death of her two youngest children in a car accident on Mother's Day in 2007, and the journey back to hope and healing. Julie currently serves as the Relief Society Activity Coordinator and has previously served as a Stake and Ward Primary Counselor, Young Women's president, Relief Society Counselor, and Stake Public Affairs Director. Julie and her husband Ron have 6 children and 10 grandchildren. Highlights 3:55 - Julie's Background Felt compelled to support others who experience loss and grief after significant personal losses: brother died by suicide, divorce, and two children died in an automobile accident 5:20 - Recounting automobile accident Our lives were changed forever We have had things we have had to overcome because of the accident Healing from our Savior is available 10:20 - How she processed and moved forward post-loss It is a long process and not an overnight experience Painful experiences and discomfort led to healing (the weight and heaviness of the darkness began lifting) Healing happened when the timing was right for her to appreciate what the Savior did for her Everyone's healing doesn't come in the same way or instantaneously She was given a unique and miraculous experience so that she could testify of healing and where it comes from Ultimate healing comes from the Savior 15:45 - The difference between grieving and healing Grief is the path to healing, it is part of the solution not the problem Grief is the pain we experience that tells us we have experienced an emotional injury and we need to take care of it 19:05 - The process of grief and healing Emotional pain is painful for those around us, we want everyone to be okay Trust the process of grief and healing and do not rush it 21:15 - Getting trapped in the grief cycle Going online to find support can contribute to getting stuck in our grief and pain Richard G. Scott - It is crucial that we be active participants in our healing Most of us know very little about grief and the process or effort required to heal We grieve and then we pile on shame and guilt as we don't know what to do As a leader, the challenge is to honour their grief path and the pain they're experiencing 25:55 - We're not responsible for someone's healing but we can be there to support Support looks like accepting the pain Sympathy = more pain Empathy = that must be so hard Instead of telling the person what they need, ask them how you can support them in their healing process 27:50 - Show up and answer their questions Our presence says I love you and I care about you No need to fear saying the wrong thing, we don't have to have the right words 35:10 - Avoid overreacting to their emotions and concerns Everyone's reaction to grief is unique and different and we should not judge or dictate their healing Whey they ask questions, that's when we get to answer their questions rather than asserting information 41:05 - Don't be overwhelmed trying to say the right thing The overwhelm comes from thinking that somehow we can make it better or that there is the perfect thing to say (and there isn't) Just show up and it will become more comfortable the more willing you are to sit with the discomfort 46:10 - Set up a support structure Coordinator efforts to address both the emotional needs and the physical needs 50:45 - Being sensitive to the ongoing impact of grief The emergency situation vs. the ongoing impact of grief and loss The ongoing impact is where the spiritual support is most needed Stay engaged so they have someone to go to answer their questions,
