Most of us know Mormon Fundamentalism from news headlines about marriages to underage girls, huge polygamous families, and prophets who seem to run their communities in every facet of life. What is Mormon Fundamentalism, and how does it vary from the mainline Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Join Apostle Dr. Lee Ann Marino for a conversation about Mormon Fundamentalism, its core beliefs, major groups, its differences from the mainline Mormon chuch, and more. Today on the podcast I have Sean Anderson on the podcast to talk about Joe Thompson and the work that he was involved in and his impact on Mormon Fundamentalism. Sean was a first hand witness to many of the events that will be discussed during this conversation. We talk first about who Joe Thompson was, from there we move into looking at his time as a Council Member in the AUB. From that point we take a close look at the allegations that were leveled against him and his subsequent dismissal from the council. The conversation then shifts to his work outside the AUB and others that he worked with during this time and finish it all up by looking at what his impact has been thus far in the Mormon landscape. THE TOPIC OF ABUSE COMES UP IN THIS EPISODE & MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN.I am really excited to drop this week's episode for you as I have two people on that have never been on the podcast before. Zack & Mckayla. Zack comes from a fundamentalist background and Mckayla from an LDS background. We start off our conversation by talking about each of their back stories. As they each talk about their respective hardships and trials we find some remarkable determination in them both to hold fast to the Restored Gospel in spite of their challenges. From there we move into the time they met each other and how they navigated their faith differences as they first started talking. The conversation then turns to McKayla's conversion to the Fulness of the Restored Gospel and how she and Zack had to navigate the challenges that accompany making a move from the LDS Church to Mormon Fundamentalism. All along the way during this conversation we explore different principles from the Restored Gospel as those principles applied to Zack & McKayla's story and end the conversation with some powerful testimony from each of them. There is a seismic shift on the priesthood ban in Mormon fundamentalism. It’s happening within independent Mormon group. Justin Francom shares the inside story of how the independent fundamentalist group in Missouri recently made a historic decision to officially abandon the racial priesthood ban and open their temple to people of all racial backgrounds. https://youtu.be/oEltSUrBCQA Don't miss our other conversations on Mormon fundamentalism: https://gospeltangents.com/denominations/fundamentalim/ Copyright © 2026 Gospel Tangents All Rights Reserved Award-winning authors Acknowledging “Brigham’s Mistake” For decades, many fundamentalist groups have strictly enforced a ban on Black individuals holding the priesthood or entering the temple. Some even consider it one of the core “pillars” of fundamentalism. However, Francom completely disagrees, boldly stating his belief that the original priesthood ban was simply a mistake. While he respects Brigham Young’s vital role in the restoration, Francom argues that modern believers tend to over-idolize early leaders, forgetting that they were mortal men entirely capable of making errors. All-Night Prayer Meeting The turning point for the Missouri group occurred as their new temple was nearing completion. A serious debate arose among the men regarding whether they would allow people of Black ancestry to use the temple. To resolve the heavily polarizing issue, about 25 men gathered in the unfinished celestial room for a special, all-night prayer meeting. The room was sharply divided. Some men strongly advocated for abolishing the ban, while others felt a duty to protect a doctrine their grandfathers had fought for. Realizing the tension, Tom Zitting suggested that every man symbolically place his personal biases and deeply held convictions on the altar, covenanting to accept God’s will above their own. A Vision of Sacrifice Following this covenant, the men engaged in a true order of prayer. As Francom led one of the prayer circles, he was suddenly struck by a vivid, visceral vision. He saw himself and the other brethren literally tear their living hearts out of their chests and place them on a stone altar as a token of sacrifice. Looking up, Francom saw Jesus Christ in white robes, smiling and accepting their offering. The stone altar then began to rapidly grow, transforming into the Missouri temple itself. Looking down from above, Francom watched as “pinpricks of light” representing believers gathered to the temple from the local community, the nation, and eventually the entire world. He understood this as a conditional prophecy: if the men were willing to sacrifice their personal traditions, the Lord would bless their temple to be a beacon of light. A Unanimous Resolution and a Historic Milestone Despite powerful visions and shared revelations, the men continued to debate until the morning sun began to rise. Finally, a quiet, non-confrontational brother stood up, declaring that they all knew what was right and it was time to stop wasting time. Moved by the Spirit, the men unanimously agreed to put the priesthood ban aside forever. Because of this decision, a person of Black ancestry has since received their ordinances in the Missouri temple. Francom points out the monumental historical significance of this event: it marks the very first time in this dispensation that a Black individual has received the original, unedited 1800s endowment (including early teachings like Adam-God). Priesthood Ban in Mormon Fundamentalism Francom also shares his unique perspectives on gender and the priesthood, arguing that women hold the fullness of the priesthood upon receiving their second anointing, and can exercise their husband’s priesthood once sealed. Ultimately, Francom hopes these progressive steps will help independent believers find peace. Through his newly launched Mormon Legacy Ministries, he hopes to provide a “halfway house” for those who feel alienated by mainstream LDS policies or rigid fundamentalist dogmas. By embracing a willingness to correct the mistakes of the past, Francom’s community is carving out a brand new, inclusive path forward for the Mormon restoration. Spiritual Libertarians and the “Not Group”: Inside Independent Mormon Fundamentalism I sat down with Justin Francom for a deep dive into his “not group,” a unique, largely misunderstood faction of Mormon fundamentalism. Francom sheds light on a fiercely independent community of believers who have built their own temple and completely rejected traditional authoritarian hierarchies. https://youtu.be/1B0qjVPxlcM Don't miss our other conversations on Mormon fundamentalism: https://gospeltangents.com/denominations/fundamentalim/ Copyright © 2026 Gospel Tangents All Rights Reserved Award-winning authors Rejecting the “One Man” Doctrine At the heart of this Missouri movement is a complete rejection of the “One Man” doctrine—the belief that a single leader holds all the keys and dictates the faith. Most fundamentalist groups trace their priesthood to an 1886 meeting with John Taylor, but Francom notes that true authority actually stems from the ordinance of the Second Anointing. Joseph Musser, a prominent early fundamentalist, realized that this specific ordinance—not a formal church structure—was the key to preserving the priesthood. The Second Anointing confers the “fullness of the priesthood,” allowing individuals to perform sealings. According to Francom's reading of Section 132 of the Doctrine and Covenants, this power is conferred strictly “one at a time.” Historically, early temple presidents even coordinated between the St. George and Logan temples to ensure these ordinances were performed sequentially, never simultaneously, to maintain this sacred symbolism. Thompsonite Connection How did this specific priesthood authority reach the independent believers in Missouri? The lineage traces back to Joe Thompson, a former council member of the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB.) Thompson strongly believed in perpetuating the fullness of the priesthood and building temples, which clashed with the leadership style of Owen Allred, who wanted to consolidate power and close temples. After being excommunicated from the AUB under allegedly spurious charges, Thompson relocated to Arizona, continuing to administer these ordinances to aligned families. Decades later, a man named Robert LeFever brought this “Thompsonite” priesthood authority from Arizona to a group of independent families gathering in Missouri. The Missouri “Not Group” The community in Missouri playfully refers to itself as a “not-group” made up of “spiritually libertarians.” They are a hodgepodge of fundamentalist refugees—exiles from the AUB, Centennial Park, and even former mainstream LDS converts. Having witnessed the rampant abuse of centralized power in other sects, they prefer to operate as independent families working together without a singular boss. Driven by a 40-year-old prophetic vision, these independent families successfully built and dedicated a beautiful temple in Missouri, complete with a stunning echoing star dome in the Celestial room. Their temple work truly flourished once LeFever arrived to administer the fullness of the priesthood. The “Application Layer” of Faith As a computer scientist, Francom beautifully summarizes this decentralized theology by comparing church organization to software. He views worship culture as the “application layer” of faith. Just as the various branches of the Eastern Orthodox Church operate independently with different styles but maintain the same core authority, Mormon factions can worship differently too. Whether a congregation allows spontaneous scripture commentary, uses a tea kettle for the sacrament, or practices loud Pentecostal-style worship, Francom believes it is all perfectly valid—as long as the core priesthood ordinances remain pure and intact. Ultimately, this community proves that for some, faith isn’t about swearing allegiance to one man, but rather preserving sacred ordinances and working together as equals. What are your thoughts about this “not group?” Have you been to the Missouri Temple? I'm excited to introduce Jacob Vidrine, a member of Church of the Firstborn. This is a group that is part of the LeBaron fundamentalist group. Jacob is a human encyclopedia of Mormn fundamentalism, and we're going to dive deep into how the LeBaron group cross-pollinates with other fundamentalist groups. When discussing Mormon Fundamentalism, most people—especially members of the LDS Church—immediately think of the FLDS or AUB (Apostolic United Brethren). These groups largely trace their origin back to the authority line popularized by Lorin Woolley. However, there is a fascinating and often misunderstood branch of fundamentalism that descends from a completely different line of authority: the LeBarons. As a helpful overview of this distinctive lineage, we spoke with Jacob Vidrine of the Church of the Firstborn, sometimes colloquially referred to as Ross LeBaron-ites. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The LeBaron Divide: Ross vs. Ervil The name LeBaron often carries a dark stigma, primarily due to the terrible acts committed by Ervil LeBaron, who was a murderer and died in jail. It is important to note that Vidrine is not associated with Ervil's group6.... The LeBaron family, descending from patriarch Alma Dayer LeBaron Sr. ("Dayer"), primarily split into two main groups: The Mexico LeBarons: Started by younger son Joel LeBaron in 1955 as the "Church of the Firstborn of the Fullness of Times." Joel's church grew significantly before the violent schism with Ervil. The Ross LeBaron Line (Church of the Firstborn): Ross LeBaron, the second oldest son, separated and spent his ministry largely in the Utah area, minimizing affiliation with the strife and violence that occurred down in Mexico. Ross's movement is the one Jacob Vidrine is associated with. Authority: Woolley's 1886 Revelation vs. The LeBaron Lineage Approximately 80% to 90% of fundamentalists trace their priesthood authority back to the Lorin Woolley story. This claim rests on the assertion that John Taylor received a revelation in 1886 confirming that plural marriage should never be removed from the earth, after which he set apart men (including Woolley) to keep the practice alive. Historically, however, the LeBarons and Kingstons maintain a distinct authority claim. The LeBaron claim is deemed by some to be "the most peculiar out of any fundamentalist claim", as it bypasses the 1886 revelation entirely and goes straight back to the Nauvoo era through Benjamin F. Johnson. Johnson Connection & Birthright Benjamin F. Johnson was a close friend of Joseph Smith and was one of the men added to the Council of 50 in March 1844. Johnson was heavily invested in the secretive Nauvoo doctrines and claimed that Joseph Smith taught him about plural marriage, the endowment, garments, and the second anointing. Crucially, Johnson claimed that Joseph Smith authorized him "to teach this to others when I'm was led to when I'm led to do" by the Holy Spirit. Alma Dayer LeBaron, the patriarch of the LeBaron family, was Benjamin F. Johnson's grandson. Family tradition holds that Johnson conferred upon Dayer a patriarchal blessing in the mid-1890s, appointing him to the "birthright of Joseph Smith" to preside over the family. Near his death (1905), Johnson allegedly charged Dayer to carry on the kingdom and conferred all the priesthood authority that Johnson had received from Joseph Smith. Alma Dayer LeBaron was secretive about this authority claim for much of hi...
Well it was kind a big week in Mormonism, especially if you're an Orthodox Mormon. With the release of the 1886 Revelation By The LDS Church we find ourselves in a place where if you are an Orthodox Mormon we can now beyond a shadow of a doubt point to John Taylor as the man who got the movement started. To help break this all down Cristina (Rosetti)Gagliano joins me again on the podcast. Cristina is a PHD and has made the study of Mormon Fundamentalism and its history the focal point of her scholarly work, having literally wrote the book on Joseph W. Musser. During our conversation we cover what the 1886 Revelation is, the context & history of the times it was received, the Revelations suppression by the LDS Church, and finally wrap it all up by talking about what this all means as it relates to LDS & Orthodox Mormonism. Make sure to come back next week where me and another guest will take a look at the 1886 Revelation and what its release means from theological point of view for Orthodox & Conservative Mormons.
Shocking new breaking news!!!! Did you know that LDS Church prophet John Taylor started Mormon Fundamentalism? The LDS Church History Library just released hi-res scans of the original version of a September 27, 1886, revelation to church president John Taylor that commanded Mormons to “do the works of Abraham.” As the LDS Church was gradually winding down polygamy after 1890, a growing movement believed that polygamy was essential and could not be discarded. The revelation quietly circulated through copies, giving their position some teeth. Then, in the early 1920s, a man named Lorin Woolley began telling the other half of the story: at the time of the revelation, John Taylor had ordained him and other men with the authority to perform plural marriages and ensure “the principle” never died. What is this revelation, what does it say, and how was it used and even denied by church leaders?___________________YouTubeMormon Stories Thanks Our Generous Donors!Help us continue to deliver quality content by becoming a donor today:One-time or recurring donation through DonorboxSupport us on PatreonPayPalVenmoOur Platforms:YouTubePatreonSpotifyApple PodcastsContact us:MormonStories@gmail.comPO Box 171085, Salt Lake City, UT 84117Social Media:Insta: @mormstoriesTikTok: @mormonstoriespodcastJoin the Discord

Most of the main branches of the Restoration were formed within roughly two decades of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith. One clear exception, however, is the Mormon Fundamentalist movement. Here's a little backstory: In 1890 President Wilford Woodruff issued a manifesto announcing the Church's intention to submit to those laws recently passed and declared constitutional by the US Supreme Court forbidding plural marriage. Then in 1904, as a result of the Reed Smoot hearings before the US Senate and the national attention this brought to the continued practice of plural marriage in Utah, President Joseph F. Smith issued what is known as the “Second Manifesto,” which announced the Church's policy to excommunicate anyone who continued to enter into new polygamous marriages. Yet some Church members felt that the manifestos of Presidents Woodruff and Smith were not inspired. Instead, they saw them as weak and uninspired capitulations to government demands rather than a continued courageous commitment to God's commands in the face of persecution. Within a few decades, those who dissented against these manifestos or were excommunicated from the LDS Church for entering into additional plural marriages began to gather on the Utah/Arizona border at a place known as Short Creek. They believed in a 1912 statement by Lorin C. Woolley, who had been courier for President John Taylor, about an unpublished 1886 revelation of President Taylor wherein the Lord declared that the “New and Everlasting Covenant” had not been revoked, nor would it ever be. This was interpreted by those in this group to mean that plural marriage would never be withdrawn. They concluded therefore that President Taylor's unpublished revelation (and their interpretation of it) overruled and superceded the first manifesto of President Woodruff in 1890 and the second manifesto of President Smith in 1904. They were staying true to this core fundamental element of Mormonism while the LDS Church was not. In time these Mormon Fundamentalists fragmented into various groups, including the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or FLDS Church), the Apostolic United Brethren (or AUB), the Righteous Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the True and Living Church of Jesus Christ of Saints of the Last Days, among others. In this episode of Church History Matters, Casey and I sit down with Dr. Brian Hales, an expert researcher and author of several books on the Mormon fundamentalist movement, to discuss this fascinating branch of the Restoration. But I won't deny that just like monogamous marriages abuse does happen and when it does women and children need help. However not all organizations that offer that help are created equal. This was never more on display than during the days of the wicked priest-tyrant Warren Jeffs. As folks reached out for help to get away from him there were organizations all too eager to help but would do so with strings attached like putting a camera in the survivor's face and profiting off of their pain for reality T.V. ratings and then berating some of the survivors' religious beliefs. However, there is one organization that I feel does it right and that is Cherish Families. Cherish Families was founded and is largely staffed by people from polygamous backgrounds both practicing and non-practicing. With their deep understanding of the fears and barriers that people from our faith community can experience, they are compassionate, empathetic, and uniquely qualified to serve the Mormon Fundamentalist community all without profiting off the survivor's pain or forcing them to denounce their religious beliefs. Today I have Shirlee Draper on from Cherish Families and we have a discussion about how the organization was founded, how they seek to fulfill their mission, and what you could do to help if you feel so inclined. https://cherishfamilies.org/ https://cherishfamilies.org/who-we-are/frequently-asked-question.html#content_24c94869fe754a439e20f7bcd2dbb8f2_item_14840325 --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dave-kirkenbower/support

Now to start the series off I have got a real treat for you today as Adam Hosey joins me on the podcast today. Now Adam's story is pretty unique in that he went from never being a Mormon at all straight into Mormon Fundamentalism. We talk about his childhood, his wilder younger years, the events that led him to realize he needed to make some life changes, to his acceptance of the Restored Gospel. We then move into his experiences and interactions with other fundamentalists while learning more. Now all along the way we get into some pretty deep conversations about Gospel topics, ideas, and doctrines and warp it all by talking about how Adam and his family are adjusting to life in their new faith. All through this conversation with Adam if you're like me you might start to see that there are those who are ready and willing to embrace the Restored Gospel that we never thought of. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dave-kirkenbower/support

From there we cover significant events that happened as what started off from a handful of family became to be a thriving community of Mormon Fundamentalists, we then finish up talking about how this group of fundamentalists ended up building a fundamentalist temple in rural Missouri. As you listen to this episode, I think you will be amazed at how similar of their experiences have been to the early days of the restoration. Go To http://patreon.com/MormonRenegade368 For Exclusive Content When I was first exploring Mormon Fundamentalism, I found that the search was hard to find people and groups to talk to. It seemed to be just the nature of most fundamentalists to be kind of on the down low and that was for good reason based on all the persecution that the community had endured. I just remember being frustrated that there wasn't a place to go where I could and just read about the groups and their different ideas and history. Well today on the podcast I have on Michael & Nichole Sundals. They are spearheading a project that seeks to do just that through a new website they are building. We talk about their journey into Mormon Fundamentalism, how they felt inspired to do what they are engaged in, What the vision is for their project. We also then take a deep dive into what Michael & Nichole believe as far as doctrine and priesthood authority. So, I have to tell you I am super excited for theses next two episodes. This week and next week I will be releasing episodes about a man who in my estimation might be considered the godfather of 95% of Mormon Fundamentalism, Joseph W Musser. I have on Michael Ness who has done some amazing research and knows his stuff on Musser. On this part 1 on Musser, we discuss Musser's early life as a boy, including his interactions with pioneer era leaders of the LDS Church, the role and example his father played in his life, his entering into plural marriage post-manifesto, and his 1909 disciplinary council. Along the way in this conversation, you will become a witness through Musser of a time in the LDS Church where the fulness of the Gospel was trying to be lived while enemies of the fulness are applying pressure both within and without the LDS Church. As the events that would forever alter the course of the LDS Church are taking place Brother Musser is right in the middle of it all. On this episode not only will you come to a better understanding of Brother Musser but also the Mormon Fundamentalist Movement as a whole. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dave-kirkenbower/support
I have noticed that history is way more cyclical than linear, especially when it comes to how we as people interact with God. We keep seeing things happen again and again. On this episode I have Lou on the podcast as we continue the series on Mormon Fundamentalism in Europe. Lou is a Mormon Fundamentalist who lives in the United Kingdom. I had two take aways from this episode. First, I think just like what happened in the early days of the Restoration God is inspiring people in Europe to wake up to the Fulness of the Restored Gospel which I think could lead to another wave of Mormons from overseas coming to the United States. Second when I hear everything Lou is doing, I realize what a slouch I was at his age. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dave-kirkenbower/support

From Struggling with Trauma to Finding Unconditional Love through Art: The Inspiring Journey of Artist Bo Bramwell SUMMARY Aaron Della Vedova welcomed Bo Bramwell to his tattoo shop a year and a half ago, and after only a week, the guest had the courage to follow his dreams and become a freelance artist. After a year and a half, Bo's art and career as a well-known and respected artist exploded Growing up in a Mormon Fundamentalist religion in Utah, Bo was raised in what he describes as a ‘conditional love' environment that suffocated his dreams, aspirations, and authentic self. After leaving the church, he was abandoned by many of those who he believed loved him which led to feeling more alone and isolated than ever. Addiction attempted suicide and eventually, an awakening is the core of this deep, rich conversation on this episode of Chats and Tatts. Quotes: I got ‘Free' tattoo to represent freedom from the Mormon Church, from toxic relationships, from my old life. I think one of the hardest things I've had to learn, and I'm learning every day, is replacing ego with gratitude. I think if we can step into just being grateful for who we are and what we have, it opens us up to that connection. Because ego destroys connection. It's really easy to look at someone on a corner and be like, fuck, that guy doesn't work. He's slob, he smells. But if that was your kid, what if that was you? It's so easy to judge. But I don't know, having the life I've had has given me a lot of perspectives, and I think it's the perspective that's important, that can help a lot of people. So that's what I'd like to do. And for some reason I had this love for the homeless, right? And I painted a portrait of a homeless man with a crown on to represent the idea that we're all worthy regardless of our circumstances. And I looked at it and I just bawled my fucking eyes out for like 2 hours. I called my mom. I'm like, mom, I need to tell the stories of the homeless. Five years later, I ended up in a homeless shelter.
For the first time on a podcast, scholar of Mormonism Cristina Rosetti discusses her Pentecostal background here on Mormon Book Reviews! Cristina shares her experience of converting to the Foursquare Church as a teenager. For a while she wanted to become the next Aimee Semple McPherson, the female founder of the denomination. Cristina recounts the fascinating history of McPherson and the church. She also describes witnessing speaking in tongues, healings, and an exorcism! We then discuss her "Born Again" conversion to the Catholic Faith. We then talk about how she got interested in Mormon Fundamentalism via her study of 19th Century communitarian religious groups. This led her to specialize in the Study of the History and Lived Experience of Mormon Fundamentalism. What makes Cristina's approach so unique is rather than focus on Polygamy, she became enamored with the doctrines of Fundamentalism. Especially Adam/God. Next week she and Moroni Lopez Jessop will be giving a special presentation at Sunstone, it is previewed here. I want to thank Cristina for coming on sharing with the audience some of her favorite books and telling her story.

So a few months back I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and I saw a post from someone that caught my eye. I clicked on the link and what I found was a post from a guy who is a Mormon Fundamentalist who was using was short Tik Tok videos to explain Mormon Fundamentalism as well as to push back against misunderstandings, and erroneous teachings about the Restored Gospel. Thant man name is Benjamin Winfield. On this episode Benjamin and I have a fascinating conversation. We talk about how he became a fundamentalist, how he found himself being the voice of Mormon Fundamentalism on Tik Tok, Some of his interactions with different people on the social media, and where he sees his presence on Tik Tok going in the future. Along the way we cover a few Gospel principles and even dive in on what we as Fundamentalists can do to reach out to folks not of our faith. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dave-kirkenbower/support
From Protesters to Priestcraft, Pages 173 to 182 of The Four Crafts of the Devils King To read along: https://at.tumblr.com/fundamentallymormon/from-protesters-to-priestcraft-pages-173-to-182/4kwykeb0de3 To Read the book online: http://ogdenkraut.com/?page_id=112 Where did the priestcrafters of today come from? What happened to Christianity that it has veered so far off the path established by Christ? It is a story of intrigue and deception, sinister plotting, and covert operations–the equal of any motion picture production. John the Revelator saw the whole scenario long before it happened and tried to warn the people. He saw a great whore that sat upon many waters. She was the matriarch of all priestcraft, and her father was the devil. This great mistress roamed over the earth committing fornication with the kings of every nation. From these illegitimate alliances were spawned thousands of baby priestcrafters–all different, all raised in deception, and all becoming a disgrace before God. Many of these offspring were educated in excellent schools, trained by the most learned scholars, and graduated with honors. They were specialists in the knowledge of how to shear their sheep–learning that the more cunning they were in their craft, the richer they could become. So I have a question….What happens when a Lutheran interested in Mormonism has a discussion with three Mormon fundamentalists? Well you are about to find out. A few months back I had a man named Billy reach out to me with some questions about Mormonism, Fundamentalism, and the LDS Church. Now one of the things I like about Billy is that he is an honest seeker. He wants to understand without playing “gottcha games”. Billy eventually had the idea of wanting to come on the podcast and ask some questions about Mormon Fundamentalism. Now because I like Billy I thought he deserves to talk to someone way smarter than a clown with a microphone so I reached out to two guys way smarter than me Michael Ness and Jacob Vidrine. So on this episode myself, Billy Michael and Jacob sit down and answer Billy's questions. We end up having a fascinating conversation and deep diving on some pretty interesting topics. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dave-kirkenbower/support

Mormon Fundamentalist Benjamin Shaffer, who is also a Freemason, returns to Mormon Book Reviews to give his perspective of the Hulu series "Under the Banner of Heaven". On this special Aftershow which covers episode 5 titled "One Mighty and Strong" Benjamin gives his unique insights of the series. Did you know that Benjamin has participated in the "original" and "modern" Mormon Temple Endowment ceremonies? He also has performed the Masonic Temple Rituals as well! Benjamin actually really appreciated how respectful the Temple Endowment was portrayed in episode 3. He explains why on today's program. It was so cool to have back on Rebecca Bibliotheca as a co-host. I found it fascinating to have a Post-Mormon and a Fundamentalist interacting with each other. Benjamin was able to give some much needed clarification to how Mormon Fundamentalism has been portrayed on the program. I want to thank him for coming on!PayPalPatreonChannel Merch StoreLink to Christ's Church website

Do you know there are at least 30,000 people in Utah and surrounding states practicing Mormon Fundamentalism (polygamy), right now? Doris Hanson was raised in a polygamous group and escaped. Years later, she became a Christian and created Shield and Refuge ministry to reach out to those still trapped in the bondage of polygamy--a brutal way of life, not at all as portrayed in "Big Love" or "Sister Wives." On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews Steven Pynakker has a delightful conversation with Anne Wilde. Anne is a widowed plural wife of Mormon Fundamentalist writer Ogden Kraut, one of the most important and influential polygamists of the 20th century. In the interview we discuss her role during the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics of informing the world press about the modern practice of plural marriage. We also discuss the friendship that they had with Jerald and Sandra Tanner. Anne helped edit 65 of Ogden's books and worked at Benchmark Books. She talks about the legacy of Curt Bench and how decent of a man he was. We also discuss her book "Voices in Harmony: Contemporary Women Celebrate Plural Marriage" as well as "In Sacred Loneliness: The Plural Wives of Joseph Smith by Todd Compton. Many people outside Mormon Fundamentalism don't realize the important role Ogden played in developing and defending Fundamentalist doctrine. I want to thank Anne for coming on to discuss his legacy and her's as well.PatreonVoices in HarmonySacred Loneliness
In our ongoing conversation Evangelical Steven Pynakker finally gets to ask all of his questions on his list to the Fundamentalist Intellectual Benjamin Shaffer! In this "rapid fire" round of questioning many topics are covered including the "Godmakers" cartoon, "Mormon Prophet" Art Bulla, gay marriage, abortion, the role of women in Christ's Church, the Word of Wisdom, the Sabbath, the End of Days, the Lafferty Brothers, the show "Big Love", the 2nd Anointing, BOM Geography, the Seer Stone, the evolution/creation controversy, would he run for political office, how many wives he has, and much more! I really enjoyed my conversations with Benjamin and many members of Christ's Church. I know that these dialogues have opened many LDS and Christians eyes to a perspective of Mormon Fundamentalism that is rarely heard.Link to Godmakers cartoon
