Sex education has come a long way since “the birds and the bees,” but it seems most adults are still reluctant to talk about sexuality. Not my guest Liz Goldwyn, whose new book, “Sex, Health and Consciousness,” tackles every practical aspect of human sexuality. Liz brings behind-closed-doors topics like pornography and masturbation into the open and also shares how the right vibrator and an iCal schedule invitation can keep things hot and heavy in a sputtering long-term relationship.CLICK HERE TO BUY Sex, Health, and ConsciousnessCLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT The Sex EdA Hurrdat Media Production. I love Liz Goldwyn. She is smart, compassionate and non judgemental. She's the kind of person you confess things to. She's also a writer, filmmaker, and artist-turned-sexuality guru, caught on to the importance of sex from an early age. She was stealing her father's Playboy magazines when she was just a little girl. It's that curious nature that turned Goldwyn into a sort of Nancy Drew for sex, asking the questions people are often afraid to ask. She has built a career deconstructing the taboos built around sexuality, not only the extreme and kinky corners of sex, but also how it shapes our day-to-day lives. As a filmmaker, Goldwyn's documentary Pretty Things, an adaptation of her own book, is an in-depth exploration of the golden age of burlesque. As an activist, her company The Sex Ed aims to fill America's void of comprehensive, accessible sex education by providing a platform with “practical answers, real ‘sexperts,' and humor.” In addition to the Sex Ed podcast, hosted by Goldwyn, she created Sexpedia, a total glossary of sex, health, and wellness terms that includes everything from “Roe V. Wade” to “Cream Pie.” Goldwyn has lectured all over the country at Museums and Universities. She was New York Editor of French Vogue and she became the first guest editor of Town & Country in its 168-year history. She has contributed to publications including The New York Times Magazine, The Financial Times, British Vogue and Vanity Fair.Goldwyn has been commissioned as an artist and designer by M.A.C Cosmetics, Van Cleef & Arpels, Le Bon Marché and Shiseido cosmetics.Liz Welcome In My Chair.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for February 21, 2021 is: cognoscente • kahn-yuh-SHEN-tee • noun : a person who has expert knowledge in a subject : connoisseur Examples: "Though he was recognized among certain cognoscenti during his most active years, [American photographer Todd] Webb … had plenty to distract him from the trifles of stardom—including time spent as a fire ranger for the U.S. Forestry Service, naval photographer in World War II, gold prospector in Panama, and resident of, in turn, Provence, France; Bath, England; and Portland, Maine." — David Foxley, Architectural Digest, 18 Apr. 2017 "Liz Goldwyn is, in fact, a film-world royal—her grandfather was the Hollywood kingpin Samuel Goldwyn—not to mention a fashion-world darling and an art-world cognoscente." — Peter Haldeman, The New York Times, 3 Jan. 2014 Did you know? Cognoscente and connoisseur are more than synonyms; they're also linguistic cousins. Both terms descend from the Latin verb cognōscere, meaning "to know," and they're not alone. You might guess that cognizance and cognition are members of the cognōscere clan. Do you also recognize a family resemblance in recognize? Can you see through the disguise of incognito? Did you have a premonition that we would mention precognition? Cognoscente itself came to English by way of Italian and has been a part of the language since the late 1700s.

Not ones to shy away from complicated topics, they also debunk myths about the shame associated with sex, the phenomenon of ghosting and the messy process of discovering sexuality at a young age. Together, they reinforce that all of our sexual discovery journeys will look different, but what’s most important is learning how to fall in love with ourselves first.

Hello lovely humans and welcome to another weekend edition of After Work Drinks With… This week we're speaking to the remarkable Liz Goldwyn. Liz is a member of Hollywood royalty—her grandfather, Samuel Goldwyn, helmed the iconic MGM studio and her father, Samuel Goldwyn Jr. was one of the industry's most celebrated independent producers. But Liz took a slightly different path from the rest of her family. She has dabbled in everything. She's directed documentaries; contributed as a writer for Vanity Fair and The New York Times; served as the New York editor of French Vogue and lectured at UCLA. She's also worked collaboratively as an artist with brands like MAC, has curated a documentary program for LACMA, worked as a curator at Sotheby's, she had a stint at Planned Parenthood and is a muse to designers like Zac Posen… But the thing we most love about Liz is The Sex-Ed, the a shame-free space she launched in 2018 to explore the relationship between sex and mental and physical health. The Sex-Ed deep-dives on everything from the effects of cannabis on sexual enjoyment, to how meditation leads to better orgasms, and what us vanilla heterosexuals can learn from the kink community, while the Sex-Ed podcast, hosted by Liz, features amazing interviews with artists and creators, people like David Lynch and Natasha Lyonne. She was more than open to field our many questions about sex, like—Is watching porn anti-feminist? What if our sexual fantasies are problematic? And can you really meditate your way to better orgasms? We can't wait for you to listen and, if you do, rate, review and subscribe on iTunes. Love you all.
