Dr. Liao's Lions & Rams Injury Report In the latest episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Dr. Liao provides a comprehensive injury report ahead of the Detroit Lions' season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. As we approach the start of the 2024 NFL season, injuries on both teams are shaping up to be critical factors in this highly anticipated match-up. Injury Report Breakdown: Key Updates Ahead of the Detroit Lions' Season Opener The Detroit Lions have several key players on the injury report. Running back David Montgomery, who was expected to play a significant role this season, has been limited in practice due to a lingering ankle issue. His availability for the season opener remains uncertain, potentially opening the door for rookie Jahmyr Gibbs to take on more responsibility in the backfield. Defensively, the Lions will be monitoring linebacker James Houston, who is still recovering from a knee injury sustained in the preseason. His status for the game is questionable, and if he is unable to play, the Lions' depth at linebacker will be tested. On the Rams' side, wide receiver Cooper Kupp is dealing with a hamstring injury, which could limit his effectiveness against the Lions' secondary. Additionally, quarterback Matthew Stafford has been managing elbow discomfort, raising concerns about his performance level heading into the season opener. Dr. Liao dives deep into the significance of these injuries and how they could alter the game plans for both teams. How Injuries Could Impact the Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams Game Injuries always play a significant role in NFL match-ups, and the season opener between the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams is no exception. Dr. Liao breaks down how the Lions can adjust their strategy depending on the status of key players. If Montgomery is unable to play, expect Gibbs to be the focal point of the Lions' rushing attack, which could test the Rams' run defense. On defense, if Houston is sidelined, the Lions may need to rely on Malcolm Rodriguez and others to step up in key linebacker roles. For the Rams, the potential absence of Cooper Kupp could significantly impact their offensive game plan. Without their star wide receiver, Stafford may lean more heavily on short passes and running plays, which could play into the Lions' defensive strengths. However, Stafford's elbow issues are something to watch closely, as any limitations in his throwing ability could hamper the Rams' offense. Football is Back! With the offseason coming to an end. I began creating Team Reports for all 32 teams. In this Team Reports we go over what happened in the 2022 season. I share key stats. We look at front office changes and coaching changes. We cover all free agent signings and breakdown some of the offseason biggest trades. We look at the draft and look for the next biggest star. I give fantasy advice and make predictions based on my own opinions & ideas.  Let's Jump into it! Did the Lions do enough to improve one of the worst units on defense last year? The Lions gave up 392.4 yards per game, most in the NFL.  The Lions gave up 245.8 yards per game passing, 3rd most in the NFL.  The Lions gave up 146.5 yards per game rushing, 4th most in the NFL. Can Aidan Hutchinson lead the league in sacks next year? The Lions 2022 draft not only had Aidan Hutchinson about a lot of key contributors this past season with guys like James Houston, Malcolm Rodriguez, and Kerry Joesph. A lot has been said about the 2023 draft class. Did the Lions miss an opportunity to improve their team or could this be the class that gets them over the hump? With Jared Goff having a great season last year and 1 year on his deal left. Is this a make or break season for him? Can Amon St. Brown become the next elite WR in football? With Jameson Williams suspension of 6 games once he returns how explosive can this offense be with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson? With Dan Campbell entering his 3 year, is this the year the Lions win the NFC North for the first time since 1993? Campbell deserves a lot of credit here for the work he's done. The Lions have come along way but they're not done yet. Lookout for your Kneecaps.

In this episode, the guys discuss some upcoming LB training camp battles to watch and who they like to win the job. News & Notes New York Jets SAF Chuck Clark suffered a season-ending injury (ACL) Arizona Cardinals LB Isaiah Simmons is making the switch to defensive back Arizona Cardinals LB Zaven Collins has been switched to DE on MFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers SAF Antoine Winfield Jr agreed to a restructured contract with voidable years, which means Winfield could be a free agent as early as 2024 Carolina Panthers signed DT Taylor Stallworth to a 1-year deal New England Patriots sign LB Ja'Whaun Bentley to a 2-year extension thru 2025 Training Camp Battles (LB's) Buffalo Bills (Dorian Williams, Terrell Bernard, or Tyrel Dodson) San Francisco 49ers (Oren Burks or Dee Winters) Baltimore Ravens (Patrick Queen or Trenton Simpson) Detroit Lions (Alez Anzalone, Malcolm Rodriguez, or Derrick Barnes) Listener Questions Reddit u/DynastyZeaLot I'd love to hear your take on the linebacking situation in Chicago. Sanborn came from nowhere last year, but now Edmunds and Edwards have joined the team and muddied the waters. What can owners of each of the three players expect for the coming season? Thanks! Reddit u/powerbrows I'd be curious how people are approaching Micah Parsons this season. Last year, he lined up almost exclusively as an Edge rusher and his overall numbers took a hit with the lack of tackles. Where are people ranking him this season? Reddit u/SternFlamingo I'd like some insight into what's happening in Houston. A great defensive coach now runs things and they saw an infusion of young talent. But they also hired a bunch of veterans who have turned in both good seasons and bad, at least from a fantasy perspective. Can Denzel Perryman and Cory Littleton return to form? Does Henry To'o To'o have a chance to follow in the path of fellow Bama alumni DeMeco Ryans? Does their secondary have a chance to become elite? And how long will it take for Will Anderson to start putting up numbers? Reddit u/Astralnaut Would love to hear about rookie prospects, who to be on the lookout for, and any fliers to target. Additionally, any thoughts on Anderson and Campbell, do you look for proven talent over premium prospects? Reddit u/Deep-Court-2755 Is Campbell a taxi candidate this year or will he be a candidate to start in start 2 LB IDP leagues? Reddit u/deleeeeeeeeeted Should I/we get out from under Shaq Leonard or have faith he'll return to form? His first year was his best year, and with all the injuries, I'm thinking I should try and sell now while there's still hope. Goldschmidt, Dickerson and Tommy Edman collected three hits apiece as the NL Central-leading Cardinals won for the 10th time in their last 12 games. The Cubs lost for the fourth time in six games. The Cardinals collected 16 hits. Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina did not play but were presented with scoreboard panels before their last game at Wrigley Field. Orioles 4, White Sox 3 – F/11 – Stowers’ HR in 9th ties it, Orioles top White Sox 4-3 in 11         Kyle Stowers hit his first major league homer to tie the game with Baltimore down to its last strike, and the Orioles ended up beating the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in 11 innings. Anthony Santander won it with an RBI single. But it was Stowers who saved the game for Baltimore in the ninth. The 24-year-old outfielder sent an 0-2 pitch from Liam Hendriks over the wall in right-center field. Hendriks had converted 19 save chances in a row before that. Rodriguez made an immediate impression on the coaching staff back in May. Linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard called Rodriguez one of the smartest young players he’s ever been around. Rodriguez’s star has only risen since. Though he started training camp with the second and third-team defenses, by last week’s joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts, the majority of his reps were coming with the starters. NFL – Bears guard Teven Jenkins looks to secure starting role Teven Jenkins has gone from left tackle to right tackle backup to rumors that he’s being traded. Now he’s playing right guard for the Chicago Bears with hopes of securing a starting spot. The Bears face the Browns this weekend in Cleveland in their preseason finale. Jenkins says he still can’t be sure if he’ll be traded, though it will be the second straight start for the team’s 2021 second-round draft pick. The Oklahoma State product has replaced veteran Michael Schofield at right guard. Jenkins, quarterback Justin Fields and starters will play a half in Saturday’s game. NCAAFB – College Football – Week 1 – Big Ten Saturday Nebraska vs. Northwestern, 12:30 p.m.                   at Dublin Ireland Wyoming at Illinois, 4:00 p.m. NCAA – Supreme Court paved way for shifting college TV landscape The Big Ten sent shockwaves in late June with the additions of Southern California and UCLA in 2024. That led to last week’s announcement of a seven-year rights deal with Fox, NBC and CBS that will see the conference receiving at least $1 billion a year. In 2020, the SEC sold the second package of football and basketball to the Walt Disney Company, making ESPN/ABC the home of SEC Football. The 10-year deal, starting in 2024, is worth at least $3 billion and is an addition to the original 20-year, $2.25-billion agreement that began in 2014. The increased revenues led to the additions of Texas and Oklahoma in 2025. NHL – Long-term victims of car crashes win key Michigan decision The Michigan appeals court has issued a major ruling affecting long-term victims of car crashes. The court says changes in auto insurance law can’t be applied retroactively to people who were severely injured before summer 2019. It’s a victory for people who are still recovering and their care providers. For decades, people injured in crashes were entitled to payment for “all reasonable charges” related to care and rehabilitation. But the new law sets a fee schedule and a cap on reimbursements not covered by Medicare. It had sudden, drastic consequences for people needing long-term care for crashes before June 11, 2019, and the providers of those services.  Former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov was among the people who could have lost that care.  Konstantinov was critically injured in a limousine accident days after the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1997.  Tennis – US Open – Unvaccinated Djokovic out of US Open; can’t travel to States Novak Djokovic will not play in the U.S. Open, as expected, because he is not vaccinated against COVID-19 and thus is not allowed to travel to the United States. Djokovic announced his withdrawal from the year’s last Grand Slam tournament on Twitter on Thursday, hours before the draw for the event was revealed. Djokovic has won the U.S. Open three times and was the runner-up last year. He has 21 major titles. Play is scheduled to begin at Flushing Meadows on Monday. Golf – PGA – Scheffler starts with Tour Championship lead and expands it Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy can each claim a roller coaster day in the Tour Championship. Only one of them was aware of it. Scheffler started with a two-shot lead as the No. 1 seed in the FedEx Cup. He led by six, it was down to two and he finished five ahead of Xander Schauffele. He wasn’t aware of this because he wasn’t looking at leaderboards. Scheffler had a 65. McIlroy knew full well what he was doing. He his his opening shot out-of-bounds for triple bogey. He made only four pars and salvaged a 67. MLB – Major League Baseball Yesterday St. Louis Cardinals 8, Chicago Cubs 3 Baltimore Orioles 4, Chicago White Sox 3 – 11 Innings Tigers were off Cardinals 8, Cubs 3 – Cardinals’ Goldschmidt has 2 HR, 5 RBIs in 8-3 win over Cubs Paul Goldschmidt slugged his 32nd and 33rd homers and had five RBIs, Corey Dickerson set a franchise record for consecutive hits and the St. Louis Cardinals rolled to an 8-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. #321: Dash To The Draft 2022 (LB Class Overview with Scott Kennedy)

1. Many consider Utah's Devin Lloyd as the best off-ball LB in this class. Just weeks ago, many mock drafts had him as a top-10 pick. That said, since he didn't test as well as hoped at the Combine, he could very well experience a fall on draft day. How does he compare with recent players at his position who went in the top 10 (Roquan Smith, Devin White) and if he does fall, how far can you see him falling? 2. Another off-ball LB prospect that many see as the best in the class is Nakobe Dean of Georgia. Now, some buzz suggests he could fall all the way to Day 2 given concerns about whether his physical play-style can hold up at his relatively petit size (229 pounds). Moreover, some are of the opinion that one or both of his fellow Bulldogs in this class (Quay Walker and Channing Tindall) may be as good or better options. In what order do you have these three Georgia ‘backers ranked on your board at this time, and why? 3. Just two years ago, the Bengals selected a LB from Wyoming in Logan Wilson who has already grown into a core piece of their defense. This year, Wyoming is sending an arguably better LB prospect to the NFL in Chad Muma. Muma was a tackling machine for the Cowboys (11.3 tackles per game over the past two seasons) and posted some special numbers at the Combine (40” vertical jump and 129” broad jump). How does Muma compare/contrast with Logan Wilson as a prospect and can you see him carving out a similar role for himself as his fellow Wyoming Cowboy within the next two seasons? 4. A prospect that could very well be rising up boards across the league after posting some super freakish results at both the Combine and his Pro Day is Wisconsin's Leo Chenal. Aside from a 40.5” vertical and a 128” broad jump in Indy, he posted an ASTONISHING 6.84s three-cone drill. Moreover, according to data analyst/statistician Kent Lee Platte, Chenal's Relative Athletic Score ranked fourth out of 2,188 LB dating back all the way to 1987. Does the tape match the traits for Leo Chenal in your view, and how early can you see him hearing his name called? 5. As ESPN's Jordan Reid and others reported at the Combine, a LB that the NFL is apparently much higher on than those in draft media is LSU's Damone Clark. Based on what you have seen of him, why do you think that is? 6. Buy Or Sell: Christian Harris, Jesse Luketa, Malcolm Rodriguez, Darrian Beavers, Brandon Smith, Zakoby McClain, Brian Asamoah, Aaron Hansford 7. Best Landing Spots: -Devin Lloyd: Falcons -Nakobe Dean: Bears, Steelers, Seahawks -Quay Walker: AFC West or NFC West -Chad Muma: Broncos -Leo Chenal: Colts
