We honed in on a couple of President Donald Trump's pet projects and rehashed the state's failed budget surplus deal with Citizen Action of Wisconsin's Robert Kraig. It's hard to pick any one thing when it comes to the Trump administration, but we narrowed it down to these things: Trump's $1.778 billion (what we call) "slush fund" The $1 billion in taxpayer dollars for a ballroom The MMA fight on the White House lawn The Iran war and prices The second half of the show consisted of the failed deal between Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and the top two Republicans in the Legislature to spend the state's $2 billion budget surplus, and all the factors that have come since. That includes the flaws in a Marquette Law School poll showing 80% agreeing with the deal, the analysis since showing it would have put the state in a budget deficit and how Republican Robin Vos wants Evers to call another special session to get it done. The perspectives and experiences she shares are her own and do not represent her employer or any organization she's affiliated with.   In this episode, we're discussing neuroaffirming care, "dispensing" practical tips to help you better serve patients on the autism spectrum, and providing context to help you understand the broader ecosystem that patients on the spectrum and their caregivers navigate every day. Once you hear about neuroaffirming care, it just might change the way you approach all neurodiverse patients and possibly improve your relationships with them, too.   At the very end of this episode, I give an update about my son Kraig, who is now 23 and has autism.   Take-aways from this episode If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism. Every person with autism is different. Curiosity is a clinical skill. When you're curious, you get the information you need to have positive patient interactions. Presume competence, but verify understanding. Use tools like the teach-back method, especially when a caregiver is involved. Meet patients where they are. Tailor your patient counseling to meet your patient's needs. That might mean slowing down your rate of speech during patient counseling, adjusting your communication style, including a parent or caregiver in the conversation, or being mindful of sensory needs like noise, light, taste, texture, or smell. Social stories are a useful tool. Use pictures paired with statements to help patients on the spectrum learn about a shot or a medication before they experience it. Language matters. People with autism are "people first." Don't objectify or dehumanize them with language - intentionally or accidentally.  Pharmacists are consistent touch points in our fragmented US healthcare system. We may see neurodiverse patients more often than their primary care or other providers see them. You are a constant in someone's life. Think ability first. Think about what you are able to do as that constant in your patient's life. The next time you interact with a patient who is neurodiverse, try doing just one thing differently. Wait a little longer for your patient to respond, ask one more question, use their name, etc. Those small moments may even save you time later. They build trust, prevent confusion, reduce callbacks, and help patients get it right the first time.    These calls to action will make your care more effective, not add additional burdens.   If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you. He explains how tariffs, China's historic pull for ~40% of U.S. lumber, and production shifting to Vietnam (labor ~⅓ cheaper than China) are reshaping demand. For landowners, the play is smart silviculture, competition-driven quality, patch clear-cuts/group selection, avoiding diameter-limit cuts, and aligning to mills within ~60–90 miles, to grow value and keep white oak (bourbon barrel essential) regenerating amid maple/beech pressure. Kentucky is ~50% forested, and with interest rates easing and housing starts improving, Kraig is cautiously bullish on hardwoods as a diversification pillar. Our guest on this week's episode is Kraig Foreman, president of eCommerce at DHL Supply Chain. While stores are already showing the Christmas spirit with all of their beautiful decorations and being crammed with lots of inventory – peak season has not officially kicked off yet. But it will next week with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. After a tumultuous year for supply chains – are retailers prepared to handle the most wonderful time of the year? Our guest today joins Victoria Kickham with some insights.  While many industries are struggling to realize value from AI, transportation appears to be ahead of the curve, according to Breakthrough, which is a Wisconsin-based provider of transportation and supply chain solutions for shippers. That result came from the company's “Peak Shipping Season Pulse,” a survey of 300 industry decision-makers. The report found that 49% of U.S. transportation leaders say artificial intelligence reshaped how they managed this year's Q4 peak season rush.According to a survey of more than 400 U.S. warehouse associates, most view robotics and automation as a benefit to their careers and livelihoods. The survey was conducted by global warehouse robotics provider Exotec and is detailed in the company's recent “Warehouse Workers Sentiment Report: Understanding the Impact of Automation on Retention and Satisfaction.” Company leaders said the survey reveals a “surprisingly strong embrace of robotics” on the warehouse floor, with a majority of respondents saying they are interested in working with robots. Supply Chain Xchange  also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane.  It is co-produced with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. We revisit an interview from February 2020 in this Most Notorious Encore episode. In late October of 1928, authorities in the small town of Lake Bluff, Illinois discovered a grisly scene in the village hall basement. They found a young woman named Elfreida Knaak, naked, horribly burned and barely clinging to life, next to a furnace. From that point on, investigators would uncover a bizarre story, including a secret affair, mystical Christian rituals, and contradictory deathbed confessions.
