Nearly 1 in 5 urinary tract infections (UTIs) are caused by E. coli strains that originated in contaminated meat, confirming what earlier research has shown Poultry is the main source of these dangerous bacteria, with chicken and turkey accounting for more than 74% of meat-linked UTI cases, while all retail meats showed high contamination levels These bacteria, known as extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC), survive processing and cooking to enter your body, where they colonize your urinary tract and can spread to your bloodstream Overuse of antibiotics in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) fuels the growth of drug-resistant E. coli, creating infections that are harder to treat and more likely to require hospitalization You can protect yourself by avoiding CAFO meats, choosing grass fed and regeneratively raised options, improving food and personal hygiene, and supporting urinary health with methylene blue, cranberries, and D-mannose

If you're a parent with a kid in youth sports—rec, competitive, or full-blown travel—today's episode will hit home. I sit down with Jonathan Carone, creator of Healthy Sports Parents, for a powerful conversation about what youth sports have become, why burnout is skyrocketing, and how well-meaning parents (including me in the early years) unknowingly make the experience more stressful for their kids. We break down shocking stats—like why 70% of kids quit sports by age 13, why travel leagues are burning families out, and how overtraining is causing injuries in 9-, 10-, and 11-year-olds. Jonathan brings immense wisdom about the car ride home, sideline behavior, when to step in with coaches, and how to raise confident, resilient athletes without crushing the joy of the game. Timeline Summary: [0:00] The surprising reason most kids quit sports by age 13. [2:14] Larry shares his own evolution from "obnoxious sideline dad" to quiet encourager. [3:41] Introducing guest Jonathan Carone of Healthy Sports Parents. [4:10] Why travel sports are wrecking family time and burning kids out. [4:40] The truth about scholarships and NIL fantasies. [5:00] How the car ride home can make or break a kid's love for the game. [6:04] The pressure kids feel once sports stop being fun. [7:04] Why rec leagues are disappearing—and why that matters. [8:29] How travel sports exploded over the last 25 years. [10:25] A realistic look at what travel sports demand from families. [12:09] Early onset injuries from overscheduling and year-round seasons. [14:21] Real-life stories of parents whose kids never get a break. [16:06] Why travel sports can destroy family dinners and family culture. [17:05] The fear-based mindset driving parents to overcommit. [19:47] The burnout cycle and why most kids stop enjoying the sport. [20:05] The psychology behind parents who push too hard. [21:13] Self-love vs. self-glory and how they influence parenting. [22:29] The myth of scholarships and how rare they really are. [23:24] How unhealthy pressure destroys a child's love for physical activity. [24:13] Why running became punishment for our generation. [26:33] Protecting kids' mental health in the digital age with Bark. [31:43] What parents should be doing on the sidelines. [34:36] The car ride home: three things you should ALWAYS say. [35:42] When and how to give feedback the right way. [38:44] Using a 5-to-1 positivity ratio to help kids grow. [41:22] Being an "obnoxious encourager." [43:33] The power of tone and why it changes everything. [45:04] When coaches only play to win—and your kid never gets in. [47:04] Teaching kids to advocate for themselves, age by age. [49:20] How ADHD affects emotional regulation in sports. [53:14] The long-tail impact of how we parent through sports. [54:18] Generational change starts with how we show up today. Five Key Takeaways Kids quit because the game stops being fun—not because of screens, school, or injuries. Pressure from adults is the biggest culprit. Travel sports demand 6–15 hours per week before adding training or lessons, often at the cost of family dinners and downtime. Overuse injuries are exploding in kids as young as 9 due to year-round seasons and lack of rest. Parents often push due to fear, self-validation, or scholarship fantasies, even though less than 5% of athletes ever receive any scholarship money. The car ride home should NEVER be coaching time. The only things kids need to hear are: "I loved watching you play," "Where do you want to eat?" and "What do you want to listen to?" In this episode, Dr. Tony Ebel tackles one of the most concerning issues in pediatric healthcare: the unnecessary prescription of antibiotics to children. With 30% of antibiotics prescribed to kids being unnecessary (according to CDC research), Dr. Tony breaks down the real consequences this has on children's long-term health. He explains how antibiotics disrupt the gut microbiome, nervous system, and immune function, leading to increased risks of asthma, allergies, ADHD, and anxiety. Most importantly, he reveals that the majority of ear, sinus, and respiratory infections are viral—not bacterial—meaning antibiotics don't even help. Dr. Tony explores the root cause of these infections (poor nervous system function and drainage), and how Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic Care addresses the actual problem rather than masking symptoms.Key Topics & Timestamps[00:01:00] The shocking truth: 30% of antibiotics prescribed to kids are unnecessary[00:04:00] The pediatrician paradox: 85% agree on wait-and-see, but only 33% follow it[00:06:00] How antibiotics disrupt the gut-brain connection and microbiome[00:08:00] Understanding the vagus nerve: the most important nerve in the body[00:10:00] The root cause revealed: respiratory infections are really a "plumbing problem"[00:12:00] Dr. Tony's personal story: four kids, zero antibiotics, zero ear infections-- Register for the FREE 'Calming The Sensory Storm' Webinar HERE Follow us on Socials: Instagram: @pxdocs Facebook: Dr. Tony Ebel & The PX Docs Network Youtube: The PX Docs For more information, visit PXDocs.com to read informative articles about the power of Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic Care. Send us a textIn this episode, we explore a hot-button question: Does Tylenol cause autism? The short answer: not directly. But there's more to the story. We'll unpack how Tylenol and other symptom-suppressing drugs interfere with the body's natural healing process, especially in childhood fevers. While Tylenol may act as a trigger in some cases, autism is never caused by one thing alone — it arises when there is a strong inherited predisposition (miasm) that becomes activated by external stressors. What you'll learn in this episode:Why suppression (like cutting off fever) can disrupt a child's natural immune and neurological development. The deeper root causes of autism: inherited miasms, family history, epigenetics, and environmental stressors. The multiple possible triggers that can “turn on” these predispositions, including:Overuse of fever-reducing medicationsHeavy metals and toxinsAntibiotics and gut microbiome disruptionJabs and other immune challengesEmotional trauma during early developmentSafer, natural ways to support a child through fever instead of suppressing it.Why honoring the body's own healing wisdom is key to long-term health. This conversation is for parents who want to understand the bigger picture of autism, chronic illness, and childhood development — and who are seeking empowered, natural approaches for supporting their kids.Find Vanessa at https://brightlightwellnesscoach.com/Substack: https://substack.com/@healingwithhomeopathySupport the showFind Heather:https://calendly.com/enlightenedmoodhttps://www.instagram.com/heathercrimson/Discount codes:https://www.vivarays.com ➡️ Code: enlightenedmood.comhttps://midwestredlighttherapy.com/affiliate/enlightenedmood/ https://www.emr-tek.com/enlightenedmood ➡️ Code: enlightenedmood Find Vanessa:https://instagram.com/bright_light_wellness/vanessabaldwin/https://www.instagram.com/healingfamilieswithhomeopathy/Website: https://brightlightwellnesscoach.com/Discount codes:https://midwestredlighttherapy.com/ ➡️ Code: Brightlightwellnesshttps://vivarays.com/ ➡️ Code: BrightlightwellnessFre...

Sports have always been more than just competition. For young athletes, the field, the court, or the pool becomes a place where discipline, teamwork, and perseverance are forged. But as much as we celebrate the victories, there's a hidden battle often overlooked: the fight to protect the body that carries the dream. The pressure to “get ahead” often pushes young athletes too hard, leading to injuries that can cost more than a season, they can cost a future. True success comes from prevention and care. Rest, good nutrition, and smart training may not be flashy, but they build the strength that lasts. Even setbacks like sprains or concussions remind us that healing takes time and patience. The greatest athletes aren't defined by early wins, but by resilience, passion, and the willingness to grow. The true goal goes beyond winning today's game. It's about protecting the gift of health, cultivating discipline, and building a foundation strong enough to carry dreams into adulthood. In sports and in life, the victories that last are the ones rooted in preparation, patience, and perspective. Dr. Mary Morgan McLeod is the host of Southern Remedy Kids & Teens and serves as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She provides trusted guidance on the health and well-being of children and adolescents, offering clarity on topics ranging from physical growth and development to mental health and lifestyle choices. Through her work, Dr. McLeod empowers families to make informed decisions that support lifelong health. On this milestone episode of Time Out with the Sports Doctor, I reflect on the journey of building this community on mindset, assets, and success. To celebrate this milestone, I had the opportunity to be the featured guest on Southern Remedy Kids & Teens with Dr. Mary McLeod. We discussed sports medicine, covering common youth injuries, the importance of early diagnosis and rehab, as well as prevention, training, and the vital role of conditioning and nutrition in long-term health. This conversation brings together the heart of why I started this podcast: to educate, empower, and equip others with tools for success both on and off the field. “Many times we focus so much on getting the athlete back to the field, and we're not really thinking long term about their health 10 or 20 years down the road.” - Dr. Derrick Burgess Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Celebrating 200 episodes of growth and gratitude (00:02:10) The career journey of Dr. Derrick Burgess (00:05:05) The role of UMC sports clinics for families and athletes (00:09:06) Gender differences in injuries (00:10:27) Are you more injury prone for turf versus grass? In this solo episode, Lindsey dives into the world of peptide injections, with a focus on the controversial “Wolverine shot” (BPC-157). She explores what peptides are, why they're trending in gyms, wellness clinics, and med spas, and how they're marketed for muscle gain, fat loss, recovery, and anti-aging.Lindsey discusses the science (and lack thereof), FDA concerns, and potential risks like overdosing, contamination, and unregulated use. She closes by reminding listeners that while peptides are intriguing, true health and longevity still come from foundational practices—quality sleep, nutrition, strength training, and meaningful human connection. College enrollment numbers are down, motivation is plummeting, and a growing number of boys seem to be disengaging from real life. What's going on?A Look at the NumbersCollege statistics reflect the shift. In 2023, men made up only 42% of students aged 18–24 in four-year colleges, down from 47% in 2011. Women were 9 percentage points more likely to be enrolled in college than men in 2022. And when boys do go to college, they are less likely than girls to graduate.Brain Development and Early EducationBrain development plays a role, too. Girls' brains mature faster than boys', especially in areas related to sensory integration and self-regulation. This biological reality clashes with today's academic environment, where even kindergarten demands early reading and writing skills—before many boys are ready.5 Key Factors Behind the CrisisAccording to Dr. Sax, several powerful cultural shifts over the last 40 years are affecting boys in ways that parents and educators can no longer ignore. Dr. Sax identifies five key factors that are contributing to this downward spiral:1. Early Education Isn't Built for BoysKindergarten used to be a place for creativity and play. Now, it focuses on reading, writing, and sitting still for long periods—an environment where many boys struggle. Instead of adapting the system, society too often labels boys with ADHD. The CDC reports that over 11% of children aged 5–17 have been diagnosed with ADHD, often as a result of mismatched expectations rather than true disorder.2. Video Games Offer an Addictive EscapeMany boys say school is boring and can't wait to get home to their video games. These games offer fast-paced stimulation and constant action—but research shows they also increase risky behavior, diminish empathy, and disconnect boys from real-life goals.3. Overuse of ADHD MedicationsStimulant medications like Adderall and Ritalin can alter motivation and personality by impacting brain receptors. Dr. Sax recommends non-stimulant alternatives like Strattera or Wellbutrin, warning that reliance on the wrong medications may do more harm than good.4. Chemical Hormone DisruptionModern plastics and water contaminants act as endocrine disruptors, mimicking estrogen in the body. This not only affects puberty and hormone development in boys but may also contribute to rising ADHD rates and declining motivation.5. Lack of Strong Role ModelsFrom sitcoms to social media, positive portrayals of fatherhood and masculinity have disappeared. Instead...
Liberal journalists subtly tell you they're liberal when they describe who in politics is "extreme." When you're a liberal, Bernie Sanders isn't extreme. He's not very far from you at all. So it's only natural that virtually every Republican is "far right" on the media's political spectrum. Bill D'Agostino discusses his latest study of how "far" the media go.
What if your child's screen time is causing permanent damage—and you don't even know it yet? In this compelling episode, Ginny Yurich sits down with Clare Morell, public policy expert and author of The Tech Exit: A Practical Guide to Freeing Kids and Teens from Smartphones. Together, they unpack one of the most startling screen-related health issues facing kids today: chronic dry eye. Once seen only in the elderly, dry eye is now affecting children as young as eight—often irreversibly—due to reduced blinking during screen use. But it's not just the eyes. Clare shares how digital overuse is quietly reshaping children's brains, behavior, and even their ability to think original thoughts. From real-life stories of families who ditched devices to groundbreaking school policies and church youth group solutions, this conversation will leave you informed—and empowered. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or community leader, you'll come away with practical tools, conviction, and the clarity to lead differently in a screen-saturated world.

Sam Baker from Wrigglebrew and I talk about soil health, and what does nitrogen poisoning look like?My leaves turned brown, despite enough watering. Maybe I gave them too much nitrogen?Overuse of phosphorus causes plants to not be able to uptake zinc, magnesium, calcium. That's another reason why our food is mineral deficient.Wrigglebrew is even used by soy farmers to reduce their nitrogen load and move a little more toward regenerative farming methods.Compost tea only has a shelf life of 24-48 hours. How does Wrigglebrew maintain the flora and be shelf stable?Sam also shares about Wrigglebrew's research - a scientific gov't grant to use worms to digest plastic.Wrigglebrew is a fertilizer made from worm castings, but it goes farther by adding helpful soil bacteria, mycorrhizae, and mycelium. The mycelium is a species that will not grow into mushrooms, if that is a concern. You can use it as soil fertilizer or foliar feed spray. Wrigglebrew started as a project at the University of Central Florida (UCF) to offer a solution to combat the nitrogen runoff that causes red tide - algae bloom in the Gulf (of America).Episode show notes: Ep. 162 - Talking Soil Health with Sam Baker from WrigglebrewTimes are tough. EP. 213: In this episode of The Dr. Tyna Show, I'm joined by one of the world's leading experts on peptides and cellular medicine, Dr. William Seeds. Dr. Seeds is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 25 years of experience and the founder of the Seeds Scientific Research and Performance Institute. He's also hosting the upcoming Peptide World Congress this June 2025 in Las Vegas, where I'm honored to be speaking on the main stage! Together, we dive into a conversation that goes far beyond the basics of GLP-1s. We explore how these peptides can support not just weight loss, but also behavior change, neuroplasticity, and metabolic function. Dr. Seeds shares fresh insights into how GLP-1s affect the brain, why they must be paired with strength training, and the dangers of overreliance or overdosing. Topics Discussed: What are the benefits of GLP-1 medications beyond weight loss? How do GLP-1s like Ozempic affect neuroplasticity and behavior change? Why is strength training essential when using GLP-1 peptides for fat loss? Can you customize GLP-1 dosing based on patient sensitivity and metabolism? now mainstream, fueling a massive industry.Mental health issues (e.g., depression, transgender identity) are used as social hierarchy markers, elevating perceived victims.Overuse of meds (e.g., SSRIs) linked to dangerous side effects, including violent behavior, with therapy culture promoting dependency.00:59:21:10 - 01:00:46:2024-hour news cycle promotes constant fear to control populations, making people more compliant and willing to relinquish liberties.Despite statistical safety, media amplifies threats, fostering anxiety.01:09:59:09 - 01:18:23:25Trump's “Generation Gold Standard” aims for a universal flu vaccine using outdated whole killed virus technology, costing $500 million.Contradicts anti-vaccine rhetoric (e.g., RFK Jr.'s stance), raising concerns about corporate influence and potential harm.Critique of vaccine industry: excessive childhood vaccines (up to 76), harmful side effects, and systemic pressure on doctors to comply.01:29:39:03 - 01:35:47:13Pew Research shows Gen Z men attending religious services more than millennials/Gen X, closing gender gap as young women leave churches.Post-Covid isolation drives youth to seek community and meaning in faith, countering atheism's cultural decline.Focus on eternal significance of faith over political impact.01:42:00:29 - 01:43:25:00Man exonerated by DNA evidence after nearly four decades, despite proper legal procedures.Emphasizes need for due process to prevent such errors, as abandoning it risks widespread injustice.01:49:13:12 - 01:54:23:11Trump grants refugee status to 60 white South African farmers fleeing state-sanctioned persecution, criticized as racially biased.Argues for prioritizing refugees from cultures aligning with American values, citing South Africans' work ethic and liberty focus.Contrasts with open-border policies, highlighting selective immigration's role in preserving national identity.02:05:31:08 - 02:15:57:16Government funding for “school choice” (e.g., $5,000-$7,000 per student in Tennessee, Idaho, Wyoming) comes with strings, pushing state-approved curricula and control.UNESCO promotes universal government funding to integrate private and homeschooling into public systems, per Alex Newman.Tennessee's failed “free act” shows resistance to homeschool autonomy; Texas Homeschool Coalition criticized for supporting funding.02:16:23:28 - 02:19:36:02Passed April 10, 2025, requiring autopsies to document psychotropic drug use (e.g., SSRIs) in mass shooters, spurred by Nashville school shooting.Aims to study drug interactions and disclose findings publicly, addressing links between SSRIs and violent behavior.Highlights exacerbation of mental health issues by pharmaceuticals, as seen in the shooter's worsening condition.02:20:04:24 - 02:47:31:19“Cold Case Christianity” graphic novel, co-authored with son, follows detectives chasing a serial killer, subtly exploring human value from a Christian perspective.Challenges secular views equating humans with animals, emphasizing humans as God's image-bearers with inherent dignity.Designed as a gateway for non-Christians, includes QR code for resurrection case booklet and resources at coldcasechristianity.com.Follow the show on Kick and watch live every weekday 9:00am EST – 12:00pm EST https://kick.com/davidknightshow Money should have intrinsic value AND transactional privacy: Go to https://davidknight.gold/ for great deals on physical gold/silver For 10% off Gerald Celente's prescient Trends Journal, go to https://trendsjournal.com/ and enter the code KNIGHT Find out more about the show and where you can watch it at TheDavidKnightShow.comIf you would like to support the show and our family please consider subscribing monthly here: SubscribeStar https://www.subscribestar.com/the-david-knight-showOr you can send a donation throughMail: David Knight POB 994 Kodak, TN 37764Zelle: @DavidKnightShow@protonmail.comCash App at: $davidknightshowBTC to: bc1qkuec29hkuye4xse9unh7nptvu3y9qmv24vanh7Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-real-david-knight-show--5282736/support.
Dr. Hoffman continues his conversation with Dr. Martin Blaser, author of "Missing Microbes: How the Overuse of Antibiotics Is Fueling Our Modern Plagues."
Is the human microbiome an endangered species? Dr. Martin Blaser, author of "Missing Microbes: How the Overuse of Antibiotics Is Fueling Our Modern Plagues," has also been featured in a documentary, The Invisible Extinction, that explores the dire consequences of our depleted microbiomes. Antibiotic overuse, C-sections, lack of breast-feeding, ultra-processed food, lack of exposure to nature, and chlorinated water conspire to deplete our bodies of beneficial bacteria; these imbalances in intestinal flora have profound, far-reaching effects, not just on digestive disorders, but on immunity, metabolism, and brain function. Conditions like insulin resistance, obesity, Parkinson's Disease, depression and anxiety, and many more have been linked to microbiome deficits. What lessons do stool samples from indigenous peoples offer us? There may be a transgenerational effect of microbiome depletion. Dr. Blaser has gone so far as to advocate a Microbiome Vault to preserve our bacterial heritage. Are fecal transplants and poop pills the answer? “Vaginal seeding”? What role do high-fiber diets play? Are fermented foods beneficial? What about probiotics? Dr. Blaser describes measures we need to take now to recover our microbial diversity.
A Note from James:Marty Makary is the new head of the FDA, but he is also an old friend of the podcast. He's been on several times, and it's really important to know how this is going to be a new and different FDA, and it's going to be molded by Marty's very specific opinions about healthcare and the medical industry—and here they are.Episode Description:In this episode, James reconnects with Dr. Marty Makary, now heading the FDA, to discuss what's broken in the American healthcare system—and what can actually be done about it. Marty pulls back the curtain on the realities of medical pricing, why unnecessary surgeries happen more often than most suspect, and how medical education is failing future doctors and patients alike. They explore the origins of Marty's bestselling books, the TV adaptation of Unaccountable, and why your hospital bill may have little to do with actual care. This conversation is a rare window into what's really happening inside hospitals and policy rooms—and what the future of smarter, more humane healthcare could look like. What You'll Learn:Why 11% of surgeries and 21% of all medical care may be unnecessary—and what's driving that trend. How hidden costs, out-of-network billing, and surprise charges are crippling Americans financially. What reforms are gaining traction in Congress and why hospitals may be resisting them. How nutrition, inflammation, and simple wellness practices are overlooked in modern medicine. What questions you should ask your doctor to avoid inappropriate or excessive care.Timestamped Chapters:[00:00] Introduction to Marty Makary and the New FDA[01:17] From Book to TV Show: The Journey of Unaccountable[03:42] The Price We Pay: Unveiling Healthcare Costs[09:06] Medical Education and Its Flaws[15:01] The Hidden Costs of Healthcare[34:52] Inappropriate Care and Its Consequences[43:14] The Referral Business in Medicine[44:00] Unnecessary Surgeries: A National Concern[44:48] Malpractice Fears and Their Impact[47:33] The Overuse of Antibiotics[50:28] Inappropriate Medical Care: Real-Life Examples[53:45] The Role of Nutrition and Wellness in Healthcare[58:15] Innovative Medical Education and Training[01:00:36] The Importance of Experience in Medical Practice[01:18:32] The Future of Healthcare: Inflammation and Biome Health[01:20:53] Final Thoughts and Practical Health TipsAdditional Resources:Dr. Marty Makary's websiteUnaccountable by Marty MakaryThe Price We Pay by Marty MakaryThe Resident (TV Series)Healthcare BluebookRestoring MedicineSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

He has run 10 marathons, with his latest being his fastest. Luke has experienced various running injuries, including hamstring tendinopathy. Hamstring tendinopathy can significantly impact daily life, not just athletic performance. The distinction between overuse and overload injuries is crucial in rehabilitation. Imaging is not always necessary for diagnosing tendinopathy. Hamstring tendinopathy is often under-researched compared to other tendon injuries. Daily activities, such as sitting, can exacerbate hamstring pain. A multifaceted approach is essential for effective rehabilitation. Strengthening exercises, particularly hamstring curls, are vital in recovery. Early hamstring rehabilitation focuses on building capacity and strength. Runners often lack strength training, impacting their recovery. Incorporating heavy lifting and compound movements is crucial. Plyometrics can enhance performance and aid in rehabilitation. Managing running frequency is essential for tendon recovery. Pain levels may not correlate directly with functional improvements. Capacity testing is vital for assessing recovery progress. Long-term recovery from tendinopathy can take over 12 months. Flare-ups during rehab are common and should be managed. Muscle and tendon adaptations should be targeted separately. Running technique significantly impacts proximal hamstring load. Trunk position and over-stride are critical factors in assessment. Flexibility in runners may not always correlate with performance. Rehabilitation strategies should focus on individual needs. Shockwave therapy has mixed results for tendinopathy treatment. Field sports present unique challenges in managing injuries. Distal hamstring tendinopathy is less common but still relevant. Metabolic conditions can trigger various tendinopathies. Continuous learning and adaptation are essential in rehabilitation. AI may play a future role in predicting running injuries. #556 MONSTER MUSIC MONDAY - The episode focuses on reviewing and providing feedback on music submissions from listeners. - Submissions are accepted via the Mike Herrera Podcast Facebook group, where artists can share their YouTube links. - Critiques various aspects of the submitted songs, including production quality, vocal performance, and song structure. - Offers constructive criticism and praise, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement in each submission. Some Advice and Tactics: Avoid Excessive Auto-Tune - Use auto-tune sparingly and only as an effect. Overuse can detract from the authenticity of the vocal performance, especially in genres like punk rock. Simplify Intros - Keep the intro of your song short and engaging. Long intros or unnecessary samples can cause listeners to lose interest before the main part of the song begins. Focus on Production Quality - Invest time and resources into ensuring high-quality production. Good production can significantly enhance the listening experience and make your music more appealing to a wider audience. Duh! Monster Music Monday Submissions: 1.
