We're back after taking some time off! In today's episode David and Maggie discuss Mark Chironna's recent big-read in Firebrand Magazine: "Which Voices Are Really Prophetic?" Read the original article below! https://firebrandmag.com/articles/which-voices-are-really-prophetic-firebrand-big-read
It is easy to talk about the prophetic theologically and biblically. Many claims can be made, frameworks created, and methods deduced about when the prophetic is helpful and spiritual, and when it is manipulative and done poorly. Everyday Theology has explored the prophetic, good, bad, and ugly in biblical and theological ways. This week, Aaron speaks with Dr. Mark Chironna who holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham in Theology as well as a DMin, about the ways the prophetic has been used in healthy ways and spiritually destructive ways. As a Charismatic, Pentecostal Pastor, Academic, and practitioner, Mark is able to aptly blend both theological rigor and practical understanding to a topic that has caused joy and suffering in many lives.
Does our personality have anything to do with hearing God's voice? How does our human imagination, thinking and intuition interact with the Spirit? Our guest on this show Mark Chironna, calls our human interaction with God a “dance,” where God never violates our humanness and the journey to wholeness is the place where theology and psychology meet. Mark calls himself a dysfunctional Italian from New York City. He grew up in a Presbyterian church, but was disillusioned by the lack of evidence of the power of God. So he dabbled in metaphysics, esoteric Christianity and even the occult before finding himself radically converted to Jesus at 19 years of age at the height of the Jesus people movement (Think the movie, Jesus Revolution). Mark says he knew the devil and that scared him enough to realise Jesus must be real! Today Mark is a theo-semiotician, prophetic minister and media personality who holds a Doctorate of Ministry in Future Studies and a Master of Arts in Psychology. While at times in the church, psychology was seen to be a kind of enemy to spirituality, Mark firmly believes theology and psychology need to be in conversation with each other. He brings a unique and necessary psychological perspective to the experience of hearing God's voice. This is a rich and deeply insightful conversation! Tania and Mark talk about: Mark's story and how he experienced prophetic inclinations at an early age. He “just knew things about people.” The interaction of our humanness and God's divinity: “At that place where the divine and human interact, God never violates the way he made us, so there's this dance - this participation with the Spirit - that graces us to yield to insights and intuitions that come." The importance of quietness and contemplation in hearing God. The interaction of personality and hearing God. Mark suggests that that people who lean towards the prophetic tend to be more introverted and spend more time in self-reflection and self-awareness. The connection between creativity and prophetic expression. How our pain and suffering teaches us to listen and hear. This is very different to “magical thinking,” where we've been inundated with the idea to “make this decree and it will come to pass.” The importance of the cross in recognising and understanding the Spirit's voice. “There is no prophetic without cruciformity. The cross has to touch all of us: introvert, extrovert, thinker, feeler, judger and senser." Subscribe to God Conversations with Tania Harris and never miss an episode! About Dr. Mark Chironna Helping people learn how to flourish and become life-long learners has been Mark's life's journey. As an avid student, Dr. Chironna is a theo-semiotician, holding a Doctorate of Ministry in Future Studies and a Master of Arts in Psychology (www.markchironna.com). Most importantly, Dr. Chironna has been in the people-helping arena for over forty-seven years, guiding others towards growth in Christ and all areas of life.
Being hit by panic attacks and extreme anxiety for three and a half years, Dr. Mark Chironna couldn't run from the pain. He was forced to get healing from places he didn't know needed healing from. He had to do what he calls grunt work deliverance. There are many in the church who believe in magical thinking that they will be healed in an instant. Dr. Chironna is an ordained bishop, author, has a master's in psychology, and has been in ministry for almost 50 years. He was doing what many of us do – too much, too fast and for too long. His testimony is so incredibly powerful, revealing, and common. We try to fix ourselves and treat ourselves as machines. We are embodied souls and are being totally unified from the inside out. Most often we don't realize that our thoughts “have us” instead of our thoughts “having us”. God cannot heal what we hide from, but God will heal everything that we reveal. The more we suppress our fear, the more we feed it. We often frustrate the Holy Spirit's work, and it inhibits the renewal our mind desperately needs. Hear this incredible interview so you can learn how to gain more self-awareness for real transformation. You will be encouraged to not to try to run from your pain, ruminate on your past, or fear your future. No matter how dark it may seem, our redeemed souls will still sing. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” ~Isaiah 55:9 “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world”. ~1 John 4:4 Mark's website: https://www.markchironna.com/ To purchase the book On The Edge of Hope: https://www.amazon.com/Edge-Hope-Matter-Night-Redeemed/dp/0800762576/ref=sr_1_18?crid=FHLWDQFSKXEA&keywords=dr+mark+chironna&qid=1684426032&sprefix=dr.+mark+chi%2Caps%2C118&sr=8-18 Heidi's website: https://heidimortensonlmft.com/ If you are in crisis, help is available by call or text 1-800-273-8255 24/7. Coming out of a “dark night of the soul” several years ago, Dr. Mark Chironna changed his doctorate from Psychology to Future Studies (he is also getting a 2nd Doctorate in Pentecostal Theology, constructing a “Theology of the Prophetic in Contemporary Theology.” From this deeply biblical and studied perspective, Mark shares how the future of the Church is prophetic and how all things will culminate in “the testimony of Jesus” Himself. In this episode, you will be encouraged to study the past so that you can understand the future. Dr. Mark confirms that we are in a major epoch change, due to the COVID-19 virus. He describes how, in future studies, scholars look at the past to postulate: the possible future, the probable future, the plausible future the preferrable future A Black Swan event (an event that no one sees coming that has a major impact) Mark goes on to share that we are currently in a black swan era. The pace of change is changing so rapidly that the next decade will be very disruptive. Using the anachronym “G.R.AI.N.y,” (Genetic, Robotic, Artificial Intelligence, Nano Technology), he shares how the present and future will see much: Social upheaval, cultural upheaval, rapid change family structures shifting etc… Therefore, Mark concludes that the future belongs to the Spirit-filled/prophetic communities. Pentecost is going to become an adjective, not a noun. The fastest-growing church in the world is Iran. There are more Christians in China in the underground Church than there are communists in the communist party. The suffering of the Church is producing Christ-likeness in His people. The arch of history is moving toward the summing up of all things in Jesus. He is the beginning and the end. The end is not an event, it is a Person. There are two things we will need to move through this new era: Hope Adaptive resilience (the ability to bounce forward) We need to prophecy “the testimony of Jesus” because all things are leading to Jesus Himself.
The Conversion of Mark Chironna is like a spiritual vignette from The Godfather Trilogy. Raised on Staten Island, New York (where the actual Godfather movie was filmed), Mark grew up in the neighborhoods of many of the real-life characters on which the Godfather movies were based. Somewhere in the late ‘teens' of the 20th century, Mark's grandparents came over on the boat from Italy to New York city. Mark's father was actually born on the boat. What made a major difference in the family was that Mark's great uncle had been radically converted to Christ and started the first Italian Protestant Chapel in all of New York city. It was almost as if these first-generation Italians were either the leaders of the Italian Protestant Chapels, or else they were part of the mob. What makes the matter even stranger is that all the Italians ate Sunday dinners together, no matter whether you were in the church or the mob. Hear Mark's difficult journey to become a full-time preacher of the gospel. Initially, he desperately wanted to become a singer like Frank Sinatra. But, in order to do that, he knew he would have to sell out to the mob. So, he set up a meeting with one of the ‘godfathers' to ensure his success. The night before the day of his scheduled meeting, the head of this family was shot to death at the very same table Mark was scheduled to sit at to sign his life away! This was the beginning of his turn to Christ. The Conversion of Mark Chironna is a story you won't want to miss.

On today's show Pastor Todd talks with Evangelist Benjamin Arde. Check it out... Benjamin was born in South Africa to missionary parents who traveled to parts of Africa, Mauritius, India, and the Philippines. He was exposed to many diverse cultures while growing up and spent many hours in the Word of God, prayer and ministry. Through the apostolic and prophetic anointing carried by prayer, God has released revivals, miracles, and open heaven experiences which has transformed many lives. His dedication to the call of God that he received in his early years has propelled him into deep dimensions of God. In South Africa and the U.S.A. he is recognized for his integrity as well as the accuracy in the gifts. Benjamin envisions a mighty restoration of God's power for the greater works which he calls "Manifesting the manifesto." Benjamin had his own television program for nearly two years and was featured on Praise the Lord Live on TBN and The Elijah List. He has worked with many well known celebrities, movie producers, and rock stars. He has also worked closely with people from the Passion of the Christ, and has been a prophetic adviser to some big international church movements, Fortune 500 Companies, politicians and royalty.
