At 17, , was a new high school graduate and did not know what she wanted to do. Her mother reminded her that she had a dream to live on a kibbutz in Israel, so off she went. For the next four years, Niven traveled and worked in many countries. Then at 29, she held her first executive position in a career that has spanned multiple sectors and roles. Niven is a strategy, leadership, and culture consultant partnering with clients in diverse industries worldwide to (re)ignite the discretionary energy of people and teams, build an enabling culture, and develop meaningful strategies. She speaks on organizational politics, leadership, culture, and women's leadership to audiences across multiple industries. Before her current consultancy and PhD studies in Organizational Behavior, Niven served as the CEO of the Businesswomen's Association, Head of the South African Reserve Bank Academy, and Head of Leadership and Culture for the Standard Bank Group (the largest bank by assets in Africa). “The real failure is not even trying. This idea that we shouldn't be scared of failure, well, that's impossible. We're all going to be scared of failure. The only thing that jolts us out of the inaction that a fear of failure brings is if we are terrified of regret. That idea that we regret what we don't do, I think is important, that we didn't try.” Niven is the author of the book, . She is also a Harvard Business Review and Inc. contributor, a part-time tutor at Cambridge University's Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), and a guest lecturer at Stanford University. Niven serves as the Chairman of the Board of Cotlands, an NGO that for 87 years has done cutting-edge work in the Early Childhood Development sector in South Africa and beyond. Tonight on The Weird and Wonderful we recognise International Plastics Free Day. Plastic, once celebrated as a groundbreaking innovation for its convenience and versatility, has evolved into a major environmental challenge. In South Africa, over 2.5 million tonnes of plastic are produced annually, but only a small portion is recycled; the rest pollutes lakes, rivers, and oceans, this is according to the World Wide Fund (WWF). Tonight we will dive into the history of plastic, tracing its journey from a miracle material to a global menace. And also explore practical ways to reduce plastic pollution in our communities. Joining me for this discussion is Dr Lize Barclay, Senior Lecturer in Systems Thinking & Future Studies at Stellenbosch Business SchoolSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Jahrhundert leben? Netflix Dracula 2020: Dracula appears in England in 2020 (after being trapped for more than 100 years under water) and comes to a house of a redneck family. House in very bad shape, unorderly, ... First, he eats the husband, then the wife (Kathy) comes home; Dialogue between Dracula and Kathy: Dracula: "What's wrong with your servants? Is it their day off? I am assuming you have staff. You are clearly very wealthy." Kathy: "Wealthy?" Dracula: "Yes. Well, look at all that stuff. All this food. The moving picture box. And the thing outside. Bob calls it a — hm — a car. Is that yours?" Kathy: "Yes" Dracula: "And this treasure trove is your house." Kathy: "It's a dump" Dracula: "It's amazing! Kathleen, I have been a nobleman for 400 years. I've lived in castles and palaces among the richest people of any age. Never have I stood in greater luxury than surrounds me now. This is a chamber of marvels. There isn't a king, or queen, or emperor, that I have ever known (or eaten) who would step into this room and ever agreed to leave it again. I knew the future would bring wonders. But I did not know it would make them ordinary." Does our personality have anything to do with hearing God's voice? How does our human imagination, thinking and intuition interact with the Spirit? Our guest on this show Mark Chironna, calls our human interaction with God a “dance,” where God never violates our humanness and the journey to wholeness is the place where theology and psychology meet. Mark calls himself a dysfunctional Italian from New York City. He grew up in a Presbyterian church, but was disillusioned by the lack of evidence of the power of God. So he dabbled in metaphysics, esoteric Christianity and even the occult before finding himself radically converted to Jesus at 19 years of age at the height of the Jesus people movement (Think the movie, Jesus Revolution). Mark says he knew the devil and that scared him enough to realise Jesus must be real! Today Mark is a theo-semiotician, prophetic minister and media personality who holds a Doctorate of Ministry in Future Studies and a Master of Arts in Psychology. While at times in the church, psychology was seen to be a kind of enemy to spirituality, Mark firmly believes theology and psychology need to be in conversation with each other. He brings a unique and necessary psychological perspective to the experience of hearing God's voice. This is a rich and deeply insightful conversation! Tania and Mark talk about: Mark's story and how he experienced prophetic inclinations at an early age. He “just knew things about people.” The interaction of our humanness and God's divinity: “At that place where the divine and human interact, God never violates the way he made us, so there's this dance - this participation with the Spirit - that graces us to yield to insights and intuitions that come." The importance of quietness and contemplation in hearing God. The interaction of personality and hearing God. Mark suggests that that people who lean towards the prophetic tend to be more introverted and spend more time in self-reflection and self-awareness. The connection between creativity and prophetic expression. How our pain and suffering teaches us to listen and hear. This is very different to “magical thinking,” where we've been inundated with the idea to “make this decree and it will come to pass.” The importance of the cross in recognising and understanding the Spirit's voice. “There is no prophetic without cruciformity. The cross has to touch all of us: introvert, extrovert, thinker, feeler, judger and senser." Subscribe to God Conversations with Tania Harris and never miss an episode! About Dr. Mark Chironna Helping people learn how to flourish and become life-long learners has been Mark's life's journey. As an avid student, Dr. Chironna is a theo-semiotician, holding a Doctorate of Ministry in Future Studies and a Master of Arts in Psychology (www.markchironna.com). He is also an author, BCC certified coach, and is currently seeking a Ph.D. at the University Of Birmingham, UK. Most importantly, Dr. Chironna has been in the people-helping arena for over forty-seven years, guiding others towards growth in Christ and all areas of life.

This is a great preparation to our next interviewee in episode 144, Morley Muse, where we talk a lot about the need for STEM education. Since we are investigating the future of cities, I thought it would be interesting to see why it is important to include future studies to STEM education. This article presents why STEM needs to prepare students for an unpredictable future and the skills and basic knowledge that can be useful. As the most important things, I would like to highlight 3 aspects: In post-normal times, science, technology, engineering and mathematics, also known STEM fields need to prepare the students and the educators for the uncertainties and ambiguity of the future. Futures Studies, which could be involved in STEM education, is an application in strategic planning field that considers distinctive possibilities of the future, like possible futures, plausible futures, preferable futures and probable futures. Individuals and groups engaging in future studies or foresight explore the future from various perspectives in order to inform the current process of decision-making. You can find the article through this link. Abstract: Post-normal times and post-normal science are characterized by contradictions, unknown unknowns and uncertainties, and complexity. These global grand challenges require a revolutionary shift in thinking and mindset on the part of teachers and students Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify new roles for STEM education that will prepare students for this post-normal world and the sustainability mindset it requires. STEM education supports sustainable development by building the capacities of future generations. The integration of Future Studies (FS) into STEM education practices is therefore critical to support efforts at sustainability and to ensure that students are competent 21st century problem-solvers. Building STEM students' competencies in this area depends on their teachers having the appropriate knowledge and skills to integrate FS within their subjects. Therefore, Futures Studies should be included in STEM education teachers' capacity-building programs. Based on a sample of 52 Egyptian university academics, this study revealed the basic knowledge and skills that should be included in a Future-Proof STEM teachers capacity-building program. Woolley is an assistant professor in the School of Journalism and an assistant professor, by courtesy, in the School of Information--both at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also the project director for propaganda research at the Center for Media Engagement (CME) at UT. Woolley is currently a research associate at the Project for Democracy and the Internet at Stanford University. He has held past research affiliations at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford and the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) at the University of California at Berkeley. Woolley's research is focused on how emergent technologies are used in and around global political communication. His work on computational propaganda—the use of social media in attempts to manipulate public opinion—has revealed the ways in which a wide variety of political groups in the United States and abroad have leveraged tools such as bots and trending algorithms and tactics of disinformation and trolling in efforts to control information flows online. His research on digital politics, automation/AI, social media, and political polarization is currently supported by grants from by Omidyar Network (ON), the Miami Foundation, and the Knight Foundation. His past research has been funded by the Ford Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, the New Venture Fund for Communications, and others. His latest book, The Reality Game: How the Next Wave of Technology Will Break the Truth, was released in January 2020 by PublicAffairs (US) and Octopus/Endeavour (UK). It explores the ways in which emergent technologies--from deep fakes to virtual reality--are already being leveraged to manipulate public opinion, and how they are likely to be used in the future. He proposes strategic responses to these threats with the ultimate goal of empowering activists and pushing technology builders to design for democracy and human rights. He is currently working on two other books. Manufacturing Consensus (Yale University Press) explores the ways in which social media, and automated tools such as bots, have become global mechanisms for creating illusions of political support or popularity. He discusses the power of these tools for amplification and suppression of particular modes of digital communication, building on Herman and Chomsky's (1988) integral work on propaganda. His other book, co-authored with Nicholas Monaco, is titled Bots (Polity) and is a primer on the ways these automated tools have become integral to the flow of all manner of information online. Woolley is the co-editor, with Philip N. Howard (Oxford) of Computational Propaganda: Political Parties, Politicians, and Political Manipulation on Social Media, released in 2018 by the Oxford Studies in Digital Politics series at Oxford University Press. This volume of country specific case studies explores the rise of social media--and tools like algorithms and automation--as mechanisms for political manipulation around the world. He has published several peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and white papers on emergent technology, the Internet and public life in publications such as the Journal of Information Technology and Politics, the International Journal of Communication, A Networked Self: Platforms, Stories, Connections, The Political Economy of Robots: Prospects for Prosperity and Peace in an Automated 21st Century, The Handbook of Media, Conflict and Security, and Can Public Diplomacy Survive the Internet? Bots, Echo Chambers and Disinformation. Woolley is the founding director of the Digital Intelligence Lab, a research and policy oriented project at the Institute for the Future—a 50-year-old think-tank located in Palo Alto, CA. Before this he served as the director of research at the National Science Foundation and European Research Council supported Computational Propaganda Project at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. He is a former resident fellow at the German Marshall Fund's Digital Innovation Democracy Initiative and a former Belfer Fellow at the Anti-Defamation League's Center for Science and technology. He is a former research fellow at Jigsaw, Google's think-tank and technology incubator, at the Center Tech Policy Lab at the University of Washington's Schools of Law and Information, and at the Center for Media, Data and Society at Central European University. His public work on computational propaganda and social media bots has appeared in venues including Wired, the Guardian,TechCrunch, Motherboard, Slate, and The Atlantic. For his research, Woolley has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Guardian and on PBS' Frontline, BBC's News at Ten, and ABC's Today. Welcome to The Free Seminary Podcast! The name has changed, this is no longer Vile Methods but we are still going to do something vile. We are giving away free information that will educate, equip, and encourage you to bring your ideas to life. Vile Methods was part of Dr. Tyler Kaufmann's dissertation project at Portland Seminary of George Fox University where he earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Future Studies focused on Semiotics, Church and Culture with Dr. Leonard Sweet. As a result of that podcast Tyler began consultation and coaching to help people with the challenges they face in a rapidly evolving society. He witnessed how impactful the concepts and insights he shares are in helping people be who God created them to be, so he decided to expand the podcast. Seminary literally means seedbed. A typical seedbed is a nursery where a community of plants is cultivated. Free Seminary is a seedbed community where ideas are freely shared and cultivated to put more love in the world, by bringing your God-given dreams to life. Coming out of a “dark night of the soul” several years ago, Dr. Mark Chironna changed his doctorate from Psychology to Future Studies (he is also getting a 2nd Doctorate in Pentecostal Theology, constructing a “Theology of the Prophetic in Contemporary Theology.” From this deeply biblical and studied perspective, Mark shares how the future of the Church is prophetic and how all things will culminate in “the testimony of Jesus” Himself. In this episode, you will be encouraged to study the past so that you can understand the future. Dr. Mark confirms that we are in a major epoch change, due to the COVID-19 virus. He describes how, in future studies, scholars look at the past to postulate: the possible future, the probable future, the plausible future the preferrable future A Black Swan event (an event that no one sees coming that has a major impact) Mark goes on to share that we are currently in a black swan era. The pace of change is changing so rapidly that the next decade will be very disruptive. Using the anachronym “G.R.AI.N.y,” (Genetic, Robotic, Artificial Intelligence, Nano Technology), he shares how the present and future will see much: Social upheaval, cultural upheaval, rapid change family structures shifting etc… Therefore, Mark concludes that the future belongs to the Spirit-filled/prophetic communities. Pentecost is going to become an adjective, not a noun. The fastest-growing church in the world is Iran. There are more Christians in China in the underground Church than there are communists in the communist party. The suffering of the Church is producing Christ-likeness in His people. The arch of history is moving toward the summing up of all things in Jesus. He is the beginning and the end. The end is not an event, it is a Person. There are two things we will need to move through this new era: Hope Adaptive resilience (the ability to bounce forward) We need to prophecy “the testimony of Jesus” because all things are leading to Jesus Himself.
In this first episode of 2021, Matt interviews Paul Saffo, Silicon Valley based futurist, about long term trends and their impacts on our cities and workplaces. Paul places COVID-19 in perspective and talks about the trends affecting our global civilization, impacts on the real estate business, and the opportunities for the real estate industry “to become good ancestors” through our work in the built environment. This is a look forward — way forward – with the end of COVID in sight and the beginning of new times following 2020.

Listen in to Amina's conversation with Dr. Andreas Krafft as they discuss the power of hope, one of the constructs studied in the second round of IIIT's research for the Mapping the Terrain Study, part of its Advancing Education in Muslim Societies (AEMS) initiative. For the past ten years, Dr. Krafft has been working on a very exciting project called the Hope-Barometer, which is an annual survey of people's hopes and expectations for the future. This has included approximately 10,000 people in 14 different countries each year. Dr. Krafft reveals to Amina what inspired this initiative and what the most important findings have been. They also discuss the benefits of hope, its various sources, as well as its relationship to spirituality and religion. Dr. Andreas M. Krafft is a Research Associate and Lecturer at the Institute of Systemic Management and Public Governance, University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). He is also the head of the International Hope-Barometer Research Network and Co-President of swissfuture, the Swiss Society for Future Studies.
