Fukiko Ostensen is a Steam Therapist and Founder of Poca Poca. She is an herbalist born and raised in the Japanese countryside, now based in the Catskill region nestled within pristine nature. Ever since she arrived in this region in 2018, she has been learning about medicinal properties of various plants through the Hudson Valley herbal community and earning her herbalist certification from Ecoversity. After studying and earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Environmental Science in the United States and living abroad in Nepal for 4 years, Fukiko discovered her true passion in educating and working with other women to help heal from women's physical and emotional issues that are often ignored, and preventing them from being the best and healthiest versions of themselves. Utilizing wildcrafted and organically grown medicinal herbs combined with ancestral Japanese herbal steam practice, she supports women's health and spiritual nourishment that can be accessible to all women as part of their self-care routine. When she is not offering herbal steam service to clients, you can find her harvesting in nature, making plant medicines, spending quality time with her family and friends, and being engaged in community activities.Today, we learn about Fukiko's path to her current work, her early life in Japan and her winding adventure to the Hudson Valley. She shares details about the steam therapy she offers, how it is healing and nourishing to the pelvic region and can improve the vital vaginal flora. She's collaborating with Mary Evelyn Pritchard on a special one day retreat in the Hudson Valley on May 10th. Mary Evelyn Pritchard is an artist and community weaver whose work focuses on creating sacred spaces and experiences.  In her business practice The Holographic Home, she works as a Feng Shui practitioner, interior designer and land worker.  In addition, she has been actively exploring the realms of feminine embodiment and eros through study and personal practice for the last 8 years, and more recently, has begun sharing opportunities to explore these topics with others.  She has a particular passion for facilitating community ritual as a pathway to individual and collective healing.Today our conversation plays with notions of the feminine and what it means to embody all aspects of this divine energy. Mary Evelyn shares personally her journey into feminine embodiment when she was initiated by an ectopic pregnancy leading to a major surgery. Her recovery and reclaiming has seeded her with a deep wisdom and a passion for exploring and sharing the gifts of freedom that unfold from an embodiment of the feminine. She sees community ritual as being potent medicine for women who are healing and recovering their connection with the "dark feminine." We learn about her evolution into the work she now offers in the spaces we reside and how this too is an offering of daily ritual into the places we call home. She's hosting a retreat in her sacred home space for feminine embodiment with her mentor and collaborator Whitney Ullom, Tending the Well, July 19-21. She has a few spaces open so if you are interested, be in touch soon! You can connect with Mary Evelyn via her website or Instagram.Today's show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.Our show music is from Shana Falana!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org** Please: SUBSCRIBE to the pod and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND IThttp://iwantwhatshehas.org/podcastITUNES | SPOTIFYITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCAFollow:INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast

There's an abiding myth that the landmark dictionaries are the work of one man, in a dusty paper-filled garrett tirelessly working away singlehandedly. But really it took a village: behind every Big Daddy of Lexicography was usually a team of women, keeping the garrett clean, organising the piles of papers, reading through all the citations, doing research, writing definitions, editing, subediting...essentially being lexicographers, without the credit or the pay. Academic Lindsay Rose Russell, author of Women and Dictionary-Making, talks about the roles of women in lexicography: enabling male lexicographers to get the job done, but also making their own dictionaries, and challenging the very paradigms of dictionaries. To wrap our minds and bodies around creation stories, whether rooted in culture, faith, Earth, or cosmos can be both comforting and overwhelming. Both religious and scientific traditions have long wandered within the realms of this radical reverence for creation. As this week’s guest, Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker, puts it, “Religious traditions help us to rest in the mystery, scientific traditions are pushing towards discovery…but the origin in awe is very compatible.” As we become mired in the minutiae of our individual existence, we must remember ourselves to be anthropocosmic beings. In doing so, we might find great benefit in once again weaving the threads of connectivity between our cosmological and ecological histories. This week’s episode with Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker explores these truths and many more. Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker is co-director of the Forum on Religion and Ecology at Yale where she teaches in an MA program between the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and the Divinity School. With John Grim, she organized 10 conferences on World Religions and Ecology at Harvard. Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker is co-author, with Brian Thomas Swimme, of Journey of the Universe and the executive producer of the film with John Grim. She regularly lectures on the significance of this story for the environmental and social challenges of our times. She has published _Ecology and Religion, Worldly Wonder_, and edited Thomas Berry’s books including _Great Work, Evening Thoughts, Sacred Universe,_ and Selected Writings. Tucker and Grim recently published _Thomas Berry: A Biography_ (Columbia University Press, 2019). Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker’s work explores the intersections between religion, ecology, and academia, and how these intersections are a part of creating structures of change and accountability for our collective planetary community. The conversation between Ayana and Mary Evelyn explores how spiritual traditions can respond to environmental crisis, why it is so valuable to understand the emergence of the early universe as we navigate the Anthropocene, and how we can nourish stories of birth, inheritance, and long lineage between body and universe. Today we are discovering the history of the universe and of the unfolding of life on Earth. Through the astonishing combined achievements of scientists and humanists worldwide, we now have a detailed account of how galaxies and stars, planets and living organisms, human beings and human consciousness came to be. And still . . . we thirst for answers to questions that have haunted humanity from the very beginning. All peoples have had stories to explain where humans fit into the panoply of life forms. In that spirit we are asking - What is our place in the 14-billion-year history of the universe? What roles do we play in Earth's history? How do we connect with the intricate web of life?”This podcast series is part of a larger project called Journey of the Universe that invites us to reflect on these questions. It consists of an Emmy Award winning film, a book, a series of conversations, and online classes. The creators of the Journey project imagine that by knowing more about the universe and Earth we will also know more about ourselves. This may give us grounds for navigating our own journey in challenging times. How did we come to be part of this universe story? How do we belong and how can we participate in its future flourishing? This series is a gateway into exploring these questions. In these podcasts of the Journey of the Universe Conversations we will meet scientists and historians, environmentalists and teachers, gardeners and urban planners. All of them are reflecting on how we can be more fully alive in this context of participating in a universe story. Each podcast will have a section of the Journey of the Universe film narrated by Brian Thomas Swimme followed by a conversation hosted by Mary Evelyn Tucker. This episode features a two-part conversation on the formation of galaxies. First, we sit down with Todd Duncan a cosmologist whose work is guided by the theme to better understand how a cosmic perspective gives our human experience a larger context of meaning. Next, we’re back in conversation with Joel Primack, a distinguished professor of physics at the University of California in Santa Cruz. Each conversation is hosted by Mary Evelyn Tucker, co-author of Journey of the Universe and professor at Yale University. In this conversation, Mary Evelyn, Todd, and Joel explore the formation of galaxies from the hot, energetic state of the early universe.
