Interview with Ben Turney, CEO of Kavango Resources PLCOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/kavango-resources-lsekav-new-funding-copper-in-botswana-gold-in-zimbabwe-4088Recording date: 11th March 2024Kavango Resources, a metals exploration company focusing on gold in Zimbabwe and copper in Botswana, presents a compelling investment opportunity for those seeking exposure to the untapped mineral wealth of southern Africa. One of Kavango's key strengths is the significant investment from the Consagra family, a successful pan-African conglomerate with interests in mining, oil and gas industries. The Kansagra family's 52% stake in the company provides Kavango with the financial resources to pursue its exploration objectives and demonstrates their confidence in the management team and projects. In Zimbabwe, Kavango is targeting bulk minable open-pit gold deposits, with a particular focus on its Nara and Hillside projects. The company aims to discover million-ounce resources at each of these projects, leveraging extensive historical data collected over 15 years in the Matabeleland gold fields of southern Zimbabwe, which will help guide Kavango in efficiently targeting prospective areas for drilling. In addition to its gold exploration efforts, Kavango is also actively exploring for copper in the Kalahari Copper Belt of Botswana. The company has identified two potential copper mineralizing systems that it intends to test. A significant copper discovery in this region could serve as a major catalyst for Kavango's share price, given the growing global demand for copper driven by the transition to clean energy and electrification. To support its exploration efforts, Kavango has also recognized the opportunity for near-term revenue generation through small-scale mining contracts in Zimbabwe. By securing these contracts and modernizing existing mining operations, the company aims to establish a profitable mining business that can provide a steady revenue stream.Investors considering Kavango Resources should monitor the company's progress in securing and developing small-scale mining contracts, as well as its exploration results from the Nara and Hillside projects in Zimbabwe and the Kalahari Copper Belt in Botswana. Significant discoveries in either gold or copper could lead to a re-rating of the company's shares and unlock substantial value for shareholders. In conclusion, Kavango Resources offers investors a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the mineral potential of southern Africa, backed by strong financial support, an experienced management team, and a focused exploration strategy targeting both gold and copper. With the potential for near-term revenue generation and the possibility of major discoveries, Kavango Resources is an exploration company worth considering for investors looking to diversify their portfolio with exposure to the African mining sector.View Kavango Resources' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/kavango-resourcesSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

We caught up with Ben, and our first question was what investors should focus on going into 2024. Kavango Resources, a company specializing in metal exploration in Southern Africa, recently secured a £6M investment from Purebond, granting them a 52.4% stake in Kavango's share capital. Ben outlined the reasons for Purebond's £6M investment and detailed the investors behind Purebond, along with his plans for utilizing the funds. Having access to capital in the current market must put Kavango in a very strong position! Plus let's not forget the people behind the capital, brothers, billionaires, British-based. This investment has enabled Kavango to pivot its focus in 2023, leading to the successful acquisition of six Prospecting Licenses in the Kalahari Copper Belt of Botswana. Here, they have initiated a helicopter-based geophysical study to explore the area's copper and silver prospects. Additionally, in Southern Zimbabwe, Kavango has recently taken over three promising large-scale gold mining projects near Bulawayo. The company has also acquired a 15% stake in Pambili Natural Resources Corporation in Matabeleland. https://www.share-talk.com/ben-turney-ceo-of-kavango-resources-lonkav-talking-with-zak-mir/

Chris Hoffman -- First Do No Harm: A Humanitarian's Journey to Greater Wholeness and Contribution

Awakin Call

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 8, 2023

Chris Hoffman, a lifelong humanitarian serving in crisis situations in dozens of countries around the world, realized after nearly two decades of intense work in the field that humanitarians often do more harm than good – largely because they themselves are “not well”. Being passionate individuals who move from crisis to crisis, country to country, in short-term stints on behalf of international organizations, humanitarians often are suffering from the trauma they already embody as well as from what they experience afresh in crisis and conflict situations – to the detriment of their clients, their families, and their own effectiveness. Realizing after 20 years in the field that he was losing touch with what was most important to him (his family and his programs’ clients), Hoffman came to see a more generalized crisis of both well-being and effectiveness in the humanitarian and international aid sector. So he stepped out and stepped back to consider how he could support the humanitarian sector to be more effective and innovative. He first helped through contemplative resilience offerings for humanitarians (consisting of mindfulness and somatic practices) while serving as Managing Director of Garrison Institute International from 2019-2020. Now he aids the sector as Managing Director of Humanity Link, a firm that links innovative companies with humanitarian agencies to develop effective technology for flipping the paradigm in humanitarian programming to be more client-driven. Humanity Link acts as a matchmaker of sorts by linking up those who need help and those organizations who can provide that help. “We have corporates come to us and say 'We have a product we think will work really well in the humanitarian sector. Help us find who we can partner with to use it,'" Hoffman said. Hoffman is perhaps an unlikely global humanitarian. Born in small-town Ohio to a loving but very young teen mother, the seed for travel was planted by the time he was 10 years old, by which time he had already moved six times with his family. At age 13, he sought to travel abroad, and his local community supported him. He later said, “All of the churches, all of the people and our friends chipped in for me to go. So when you say it takes a village, I'm living proof that it takes a village. It took the village of Bremen, [Ohio] to be able to take a kid and get him out and see the world and really be able to change things." His local school district allowed him to progress by giving reports for his grades through a journal he kept. So at age 13, Chris went to live in the bush of Matabeleland in Zimbabwe with a group of young missionaries working to help a small community. At 14, he was off to the jungle of Rhodonia in Brazil to work with orphans stranded on the Madeira River. At 16, he landed in Beira, Mozambique soon after peace was declared, living in the basement of an orphanage helping children who were coming of age to have a trade skill to take into their adult lives. A war in Mozambique was just winding down when he was there, and so he got to see United Nations peacekeeping operations and international humanitarian functions in development settings and in crisis situations. He recognized his life’s purpose. After graduating from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, Hoffman went to work for the Peace Corps in Kenya, and then worked across four continents for the U.N., World Vision, and other international agencies. “The 20 years from teen to now is peppered with crisis, disaster, more than 40 countries and countless experiences with the United Nations and International Non-Profits trying to find the simplest most effective answers to some of the world’s most complex problems,” he says. He established Humanity Link in 2020 to help develop tools and systems that transform how humanitarian organizations interact with people in need – from service delivery to genuine partnership. He partners with corporates to create transformational technology innovations using artificial intelligence, digital identity authentication, and cash distribution solutions for humanitarian agencies around the world. His clients include the International Federation of the Red Cross, the International Organization for Migration, and the Norwegian Refugee Council. Chris is the father of four global children and husband to Wakanyi, "an amazing partner" who he met at a Nairobi bus stop on a sunny Sunday. They live in Groningen, the Netherlands with their dog Thomas and their cat Totoro. Join us in conversation with this resilient and innovative humanitarian!

Ira Pastor, ideaXme life sciences ambassador interviews Eduardo Goncalves, founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting. Ira Pastor comments: Trophy hunting is hunting of wild game for human recreation. The trophy is the animal, or part of the animal, kept and usually displayed, to represent the success of the hunt. Over the past decade, hunters have taken home over 1.7 million trophies from animals they have killed for sport, more than 200,000 of them which were from animals in danger of going extinct, including 10,000 lions, such as the well publicized case of Cecil the Lion, from the Hwange National Park in Matabeleland, North Zimbabwe. CITES: CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is a multilateral treaty to protect endangered plants and animals. CITES original aim, a few decades ago, was to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants did not threaten the survival of the species in the wild, and it accords varying degrees of protection to more than 35,000 species of animals and plants. The critically most endangered wildlife at risk: However, a loophole in CITES, allows trophy hunters to kill even the most critically endangered wildlife. A poacher cannot kill an elephant to sell its tusks. But a trophy hunter can kill the same elephant and take the same tusks. Eduardo Goncalves: Eduardo Goncalves, is Founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, a non-profit group that believes trophy hunting is cruel, archaic, immoral and unjustified, can inflict significant pain and suffering, undermines genuine conservation, and brings no real benefits to local communities. Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting: Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting wants to see an immediate halt to the trade in trophies of vulnerable or threatened species, calls on governments to ban trophy hunting and imports/exports of hunting trophies, and believes there should be a comprehensive global agreement banning trophy hunting, with proper enforcement and penalties. Prior to the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, Mr. Goncalves was CEO of the League Against Cruel Sports, where he led a successful campaign to stop plans to bring back fox-hunting, as well as to persuade the government to increase jail sentences for dog-fighting and breeding and shipping dogs into the UK for organized fights. He has also spent several years with World Wildlife Fund (WWFP) working on forest conservation and sustainability. Mr. Goncalves' wide-ranging career includes spells as a House of Commons researcher, a radio presenter, an investigative journalist, and as the director of a government department in UAE. In the run-up to the Paris Climate Summit, Mr. Goncalves was International Communications Director at The Climate Group, an influential organization set up with the support of then Prime Minister Tony Blair, as well as business and political leaders from around the world. Mr. Goncalves is also the author / co-author of several books, including KILLING GAME: The Extinction Industry, TROPHY HUNTERS EXPOSED: Inside the Big Game Industry, "The WWF Pocket Book of One Planet Living", "The Algarve Tiger", and "Blueprint for a Nuclear Weapon-Free World". On the 6th Episode of WNB we discuss the possibility of Matabeleland having a regional focused plitical party. Is that too vile a thought to consider? We also ask if it is wrong or strategic for Adv Fadzai Mahere to be appointed minister in MDC A's shadow cabinet over other possibly deserving and qualified senior members of that party. We talk about the ZESA black outs and the many complications surrounding it... Tune in for this and more of four women's general opinions on things happening around them, in the press and on social media every week. Anthony Kendrick is joined by former international manager and now author Justin Walley for an episode of The Big Interview. We discuss Matabeleland, who had a squad including legendary goalkeeper Bruce Grobelaar and their journey to London to compete in the CONIFA World Cup. The tournament included those nations who are not considered part of FIFA, and was well publicised, with Mark Clattenburg refereeing the final and Paddy Power introducing a new green card. Justin resigned as manager following the tournament, and spent some time in Russia for the FIFA World Cup. He details all of his unbelievable experiences with his country, and how he ended up there in his new book 'One Football, No Nets', which details all of the obstacles which he needed to overcome - the small matter of no money, no resources, no salary, no visas, and no sponsors. You can purchase Justin's book here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/One-Football-Nets-Justin-Walley/dp/1910515647/ Follow us and Justin on twitter: www.twitter.com/JustinWalley10 www.twitter.com/Ant_Kendrick www.twitter.com/v2sportnetwork Thanks for listening!

On March 29 Zimbabweans will cast their votes in presidential and parliamentary elections that are likely to be rigged in favor of Robert Mugabe and his ZANU-PF party. Mugabe and the ZANU-PF elite have presided over the collapse of living standards in Zimbabwe and the destruction of her economy. They are also responsible for massive human rights abuses that include a massacre of some 20,000 civilians in the Matabeleland in the 1980s. The panel will discuss the current economic and political situation in Zimbabwe, and possible post-election scenarios. The forum will coincide with the release of a new Cato study detailing Zimbabwe's decline. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
