What is culture, and why does it matter? Seth Sivak, the founder and ex-CEO of Proletariat, a studio most known for its title Spellbreak, joins our host, Alexandra Takei, Director at Ruckus Games, to discuss the importance of organizational culture in the gaming industry. Proletariat was founded in 2012 by Seth and four other co-founders and went through various era of growth: scaling up to 80 people in person, 130 people remote during the pandemic, everyone brought back in person again, and then a sale to Blizzard Entertainment in the summer of 2022 with subsequent culture merging afterward. We discuss the definition of culture, who is responsible for setting it, who is responsible for maintaining it, as well as tactics to create a shared vision and shared set of norms, habits, and standards. If you are curious about what supercharges a successful game and business, this is a conversation that illuminates the balance between transparency and employee focus, how to build an effective communication decorum that scales, and why spending time on your company culture does not detract from building your product and business, but if done right, enhances and augments success. We'd also like to thank Lightspeed Venture Partners for making this episode possible! With its dedicated gaming practice, "Lightspeed Gaming," the firm is investing from over $7B in early- and growth-stage capital — the by far largest fund focused on gaming and interactive technology. When was the last time a remade game needed to be remade? I was thinking the Master Chief Collection, although that's more along the lines of the game being fundamentally broken at launch and needing to be progressively reworked. Some studios simply invest in re-remaking failed titles, like the recent Warcraft 3 remaster. Tweet @8BitsGG with your thoughts of re-remade games. Hello everyone, my name is Nomic is this is my introduction episode to my very first podcast. This is a brief intro as to what my show will be about and a few details pertaining to its expected release schedule. For those of you who want the quick details, this is a video game review podcast where I explore one of my steam library games and review it for you, the listener. I give a detailed description of the game along with pros/cons at the end and a general rating. This show will be biweekly to start and will release in January. Music is by a friend of mine, once he has decided how he'd like credit, I'll post future notes with that info. This won't be voiced in the episodes, but I'd like to do a quick shoutout here to another podcast that had me on their episode for a game called Spellbreak which gave me quite a bit of experience on how podcasting works. So please check out "Budget Arcade" podcast for free-to-play gaming reviews. Thanks for checking out the podcast and I hope you consider following along as I adventure into the games I own!
