Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by author, journalist and producer DANNY WALLACE!Hard to pin down what professions you'd attribute to Danny but that's a start anyway... Danny joined Pip back in 2015 for episode 30 which seems unfathomable but it's true. So of course, in 9 years, obviously stuff's basically the same and there's weirdly nothing to talk about. OF COURSE I'm being silly. It could have gone on for about the duration of Danny's audiobook, but a line must be drawn somewhere. His book 'Somebody Told Me' explores the world of the conspiracy theory, detailing the many elements contained in this wide world, and he and Pip have much to say on the subject. It's a fascinating episode with not all doom and gloom, so fear not - you won't leave sad. If this is an area that intrigues you though, it's essential listening and a timely reminder to keep your wits about you as you navigate this world, especially in the realms of social media. What is interesting too is how this stuff has always been happening - but certain factors of modern life can amplify it, including isolation. Take some notes when you listen - and remember not only to tell people what you heard by saying "I heard on this podcast that...", but to end each sentence with an enigmatic "You'll see...". You'll see. Pattie Boyd joins Nikki Bedi and Danny Wallace. The model, muse and photographer talks about her life, the influence of her early years and how she dealt with many years in the public eye, where relationships with George Harrison and Eric Clapton inspired songs such as Harrison's Something and Clapton's Layla and Wonderful Tonight. When listener Andrew Lock heard our science lesson call in it prompted him to get in touch and tell us about his surprising career as an inventor on a TV show in the late 1990s, while he was still a student. Andrew joins us to talk about his ingenious inventions and his brief taste of life as a TV presenter. Richie Barlow's childhood was littered with abuse and chaos, as he struggled to find his place in the world. He spent most of his childhood in care, from the age of nine. Richie talks about turning his life around and running a successful business, the women who helped him, and how Star Trek taught Richie how to survive and forgive. Howard Blake OBE is best known for composing the music for The Snowman, which is celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the film's debut and 25 years as a stage play. Outside this festive staple, Blake has a hugely varied body of work which includes creating the music for The Avengers and a string of big commercials. He was also commissioned to write a new piece for Princess Diana's thirtieth birthday. Pattie Boyd: My Life In Pictures is out now. Richie - Who Cares? by Richie Barlow – with Becky Bond is available online now.  To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of ‘The Snowman' Sony are releasing of a newly-remastered edition of the soundtrack. Danny Wallace is an ideas-man and a doer. He's started his own kindness cult, tracked down all his long-lost friends, and spent a whole year saying yes to everything. Danny has published adult books, kids books, and has a new one out, 'The Luckiest Kid in the World'.It's all about a boy who is determined to be the most average child ever, and that very fact makes him extremely unusual. We talk about the having the idea and what he needs to know before he starts writing, also where he sometimes escapes to write and how he explored the pandemic for kids. You can hear how having children has affected his writers routine, where he writes now, and why he needs the radio on to tell stories. He runs a website called Assembly, and a podcast called Manatomy, which is a place for modern men. Also, hosts a weekly show on Radio X, and we discuss how he decides where ideas go.
