This week on The Free Cheese, it's basically July. With six months on the books for the year and this season of the podcast, we break from The List and reflect. First, we talk about the hits and misses from this season so far. Then, we talk about the games we've been playing outside of the podcast. We look at some news stories and trends from 2025 in video games. Finally, we share our most anticipated titles still due out this year.
This week I am super happy because I am not playing Death Stranding 2. Kojima can't fool me twice! We hit up the big news stories over the past two weeks like Marathon's indefinite delay, WB Games restructuring, DK Bananza looking cool, and the SAG-AFTRA strike ending. Matt continued to play Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, while I finished up Doom the Dark Ages and went back to my 800 million hour playthrough of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
On this week's episode,Kiaun will be going over Xbox announcing next generation hardware, the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to have issues with its Joy Con controllers,Sony is interested in buying WB Games and we get an update for Prince Of Persia Sands Of Time Remake.
El Punisher estará en Brand New Day. DC ya tiene a su nuevo Clayface. WB Games se reestructura. Anuncian dos nuevos crossovers de DC/Marvel. Y más. On this week's sode, WB Games makes some more brilliant business moves, Nexus Mods has been taken over by venture capital, and Bungie has finally committed to delaying Marathon. Then we do another listener top ten and give a first impression rose to Undermine 2. Peterson selects his Dice game.
This week on the pod Rossko, Miles and Josh talk WB Games who this week has announced they're dividing up their IP. We discuss what this means and where the hell they've been all this time. We also talk Marathon after it got an indefinite delay and the Death Stranding 2 reviews. Oh, and Charlie Cox has talked Expedition 33! So we talk about that game. Again. Ah well, it's amazing. In Game of the Week, Josh has dipped his toe in Mike Bithell's latest, Tron Catalyst whilst Miles (and Josh) has been playing a whole of Sloclap's Rematch, which is proving to be quite the popular game amongst the Finger Guns clan. Rossko finishes off by talking about Architecture Life and his own experience of Rematch. I wonder how many times I can write Rematch. Rematch. Rematch? Sorry...Hey if you like our podcast why not leave us a review?! You can do it on Apple where you can also spread the love and on Spotify with their star ratings. It has been a whirlwind of a week for the games industry. Massive studio closures continue at a rapid pace and now we have Fable delay for the cherry on top! Where to begin? Well, for the Xbox faithful, let's sink into Fable first. It was given a 2025 release window at Xbox's 2024 Summer Showcase, but Playground Games has pulled the plug early on that happening. Announced by new head of Xbox Game Studios Craig Duncan, we also got a glimpse at some pre-alpha gameplay for Fable. The game looks great, at least visually, but has left many wondering what's taking so long? Rumors of this game started kicking around in 2018 only for the game to be fully announced in 2020. By summer 2026, we're looking at six full years of building this game up. So, what gives? Is it a PS5 port, the looming release of GTA VI, or something much deeper? The Dukes discuss in Cog's return! Naturally, we dive deep into the mismanagement of WB Games as we have for weeks. To put an exclamation point on things, they have shut down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego. As their game's division continues its tailspin, the Dukes sift through the wreckage to see if there's any hope in saving what remains of WB Games. We also tackle the conversation around MUSE once more following new comments by Satya Nadella, how NetEase is hitting a speed bump despite the rocketing success of Marvel Rivals, and much more!
