The goals and objectives of The Magic Word Podcast is not to chase current news nor necessarily get involved in controversy. That being said, magic exposure is something that's been going on since the inception of our craft as a performing art. Attention on “how we do it” rises and fades from time to time and several times within one generation. Magic exposure is a relevant topic of conversation and one that is often publicly discussed in committee meetings of international magic organizations and local clubs just as it is privately talked about among and between magicians.Murray Sawchuck recently made a “splash” in the magic community with his exposure of a couple tricks that has some magicians buzzing. This week, Murray defends his position and talks about what he has done and why he did (does) it. You decide if you want to watch this video, see magic exposed, and contribute to the number of views. Murray is unapologetic in his “exposure” of magic and has reasons why what he does is not exposure, according to his definition. He has revealed “how tricks are done” on his social media and in his shows for many years. But now that he is an “influencer” and reached a level of success and notoriety in the magic community, what he does is seen by more people. It is the holiday gift giving season and Santa has three suggestions for every parent, grand parent, aunt, uncle or for that matter, for anyone having a young person in their lives. Santa chats with three authors about their books that are directed at children. Amy Kimlat (yes, the wife of Kostya Kimlat) tells us about her recently released book, “Hocus Pocus Practice Focus” which is a wonderful book (for readers 4-8) that will empower and inspire children to focus and do their best in life. More than a book about a child who learns magic, but the “magic” that is behind learning. Next we have Allan Kronzek who released the book, “Grandpa Magic” nearly two years ago, it is still a relevant guide for older magicians to be ready with a quick trick to entertain children. And finally, what would December be without a visit with Murray Sawchuck? His book, “At Nighttime We Are All The Same Size” was just released and it is an adorable book for animal lovers and children. Not specifically a magic book, it is about the magic in the eyes of the animals we see in our homes and at the zoo. A delightful read for ages 4-8 years of age. More than a reporter, Johnny “Kats” Katsilometes chronicles history in the making with his regular newspaper and online columns covering entertainment in Las Vegas. His many insightful observations has made him an integral part of that entertainment scene. And since magic is part of that world, Johnny covers it all from the small bars to the mega-casino shows where conjurors congregate. He loves magic and magicians. Some of you may remember that he was one of the guest “roasters” at the Mac King Roast at the S.A.M. Magic Convention in Las Vegas in January 2020. You can read his daily columns in the Las Vegas Review-Journal or catch him online with their digital edition, too. As he says, “I'm on page 3-A everyday and online all the time.” If you're planning a trip to Las Vegas and want to know what's happening, be sure to check out his column before you go. I was bumped by famed guitarist, Carlos Santana (see picture above.) But when we finally got together in the home of Murray Sawchuck, Johnny talked about some of what has been happening in Las Vegas as the ever-evolving scene changes and the baton seems to be passing from Cirque du Soliel shows to AGT (America's Got Talent) stars on the Strip. He also gave some advice on what shows he recommends seeing when you travel to Vegas. Multi-Award winning Broadway illusionist, Joseph Gabriel, single-handedly changed the face of magic with his iconic sleight-of-hand performance when he appeared on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” for the first time. Soon after his appearance on “The Tonight Show”, Joseph began headlining in lavish Las Vegas review shows, such as the “Lido de Paris” at the Stardust Hotel and “City Lites” at the Flamingo where he headlined for nine years. This has been a tough year for the entire world but particularly for “gig” workers…like magicians. And Las Vegas seems to employ the most magicians per square mile than any other place on earth. So, what was this past year like in Las Vegas? What is it like now? And what does the future look like? Well, this week we “return to Vegas” for our annual holiday visit with “Celebrity Magician”, Murray Sawchuck. [audio mp3=“https://media.talkaboutlasvegas.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/12115759/Murray_Sawchuck_121420.mp3"][/audio] This week, Ira spoke with Murray The Magician, who is back performing in the Laugh Factory at the Tropicana Las Vegas, Thursdays through Sundays at 4 p.m. In this 30-minute episode of Talk About Las Vegas, Murray talks about his magical career and how he developed his look; why he sticks to his motto, “Don’t fool them, entertain them”; why it’s essential for performers (and especially magicians) to adapt to changing times and new practices and principles; who he considered his mentors while starting out in magic; why he’s not afraid of hard work; and why without Vegas, magic wouldn’t have advanced.

Join Dug and Murray in unpacking what it takes to succeed in magic. Murray is one of the nicest and hardest working people out there and he backs it up with talent!!! Murray who is currently headlining at The Tropicana Resort & Casino, on the Las Vegas strip nightly, really made his mark as a household name when he exploded onto the entertainment scene after his successful run as a semi-finalist on NBC-TV's “America's Got Talent.” The #1 network summer series was viewed by over 22 million fans nationwide. Murray dazzled the judges: Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel by producing a Ferrari from thin air, transforming a girl locked in a cage into a 450 pound tiger and did the largest trick ever on “AGT” by vanishing an entire 1918 steam train locomotive in mere seconds. All of these illusions took place before a “live” and national “TV” audience, and brought standing ovations from the judges. Murray is one of YouTube's newest sensations with over 1 Billion online views. He is a regular guest star on History Channel's “Pawn Stars” as a Magic Expert. He has also been featured on over 20 Reality shows from America's Got Talent, Pawn Stars, CW's Masters of Illusion, SYFY's Wizard Wars, VH1's Celebracadabra, TLC's 4 Houses and What Not to Wear, Reelz Extreme Escapes, PopTV's Don't Blink, Master Chef, Top Gear, Hallmark's Home & Family, Nat Geo's Brain Games, and many many more! Murray John SawChuck was born in Burnaby, British Columbia – Canada and always had the passion for adventure. At age 3, he began swimming and golfing. He learned how to play the accordion, keyboard and saxophone at 5 years old. At age 7, he began dance lessons that included: ballet, Russian, swing, break dancing, ballroom, etc. He was an avid athlete and enjoyed participating in soccer, baseball, snow skiing, horseback riding, etc. Murray's parents, John and Arlene presented him with a Siegfried and Roy magic kit when he was 7 years old and his uncle and aunt Bill and Olga gave him a magic gift that changed his life. Murray envisioned himself as an entertainer incorporating magic, music and dance in his routines. He wanted to perform for audiences like his idols Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, Lucille Ball, Danny Kaye and Phyllis Diller. As a teen, Murray had over 21 different jobs from bus boy to fixing bicycles, and lifeguard at local pools. He continued to entertain folks by dancing, playing the accordion and saxophone. He continued his studies and received a degree in Broadcast Communications and Journalism. When Murray was a young man he met Marvyn and Carol Roy, a.k.a. “Mr. Electric.” The couple had toured worldwide for over 50 years and mentored Murray while he grew from an accomplished magician to an international star. Murray was the only magician globally who invented a magic act that included the manipulation of a multitude of Compact Discs when he began his professional career called The CD Act! Murray has won over 32 awards for his performances nationally and internationally and received the title of “World Champion.” He has delighted audiences in theatres from Monaco and Paris to Las Vegas and the legendary Playboy Mansion. Recently he was honored with 4 awards, The Hollywood FAME Award for contribution to Magic on TV, the LA Comedy Award for BEST COMEDY SHOW, TOP 100 Business Men of Nevada and 100 Most Distinguished Men of Nevada. www.youtube.com/magicmurray www.murraymagic.com Get you free guided hypnotic meditation at www.guidedhypnotic.com To master your message and rock your presentations go to www.URockSpeaking.com

We are at the beginning of a “new normal” for an undetermined period. This pandemic is affecting the whole world and in particular, impacting our magic community in a serious way. Groups are postponing or canceling events where we were booked and then, almost literally overnight, many of our bookings over the next few months have dried up. Businesses and schools have closed or reduced their hours, people are asked not to congregate, and international travel has been banned. This episode is intended to keep us connected and to let each of you know that you are not alone as we are all feeling the pain. The assortment of guests on this week was random but includes performers from various backgrounds from cruise ships to corporate and birthday parties to trade shows. It is uncertain how long this trip will be and where it will take us, make us, or break us. Hopefully, it will be short and we can all return to doing what we love…entertaining people with magic! In this episode, Jamie Salinas discusses the cancellation of shows during this Pandemic. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, or having been in a public place. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.* To the extent possible, avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places—elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, etc. Use a tissue or your sleeve to cover your hand or finger if you must touch something.* Wash your hands after touching surfaces in public places.* Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes, etc.* Clean and disinfect your home to remove germs: practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (for example: tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks, and cell phones).* Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces. Murray works hard to promote his brand through social media as well as on multiple television appearances as he continues into his second year at the Tropicana with the occasional time out to perform across the country for special performances. Murray helps out the homeless and needy around this time of year and also sponsors an annual Family Variety Holiday Spectacular show called “Beggin’ for Magic Charity Show” with proceeds benefiting “Friends for Life Humane Society.” This year’s guests will include Lance Burton, Piff the Magic Dragon, Fielding West, James Dimmare, and many others.Vegas entertainer Murray Sawchuk joins The Rush with Fiona Forbes to talk magic, marriage, and hanging out with a surprisingly tight-knit circle of other Sin City celebrities and performers, including the guys from Pawn Stars and, oh hey, The Property Brothers.BEST Female Public Trolling PRANKS (PICKPOCKETING MAGIC!!!) - 2019 Subscribe to Magic Murray: https://www.youtube.com/magicmurray Shot and Edited by @SethVideos on IG See Magic Murray Live in LAS VEGAS at the Tropicana! www.MurrayMagic.com Watch more Magic Murray: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list... Among the top stories of 2015 in the world of magic was Mat Franco's winning the ninth season of "America's Got Talent." Keep on mind that 73 magicians or magic acts have appeared on the whow over the years including the Pendragons, Kevin James, Murray Sawchuck, Michael Grasso, Nathan Burton, Brett Daniels, Rudy Coby, Bizarro and many more. Mat became interested in magic after seeing a special featuring several magicians when he was only a few years old and immediately began performing for his class at show and tell. The rest as they say is history.
Murray began performing magic professionally as a teenager. He hasn't stopped since. Now, he performs regularly on cruise ships and with corporate gigs. He has performed in Las Vegas as well.
