Canada's Jewish community is growing—but also becoming more diverse, more intermarried and older. As the 2026 census gets underway this month, Canadian sociologist Rachel Margolis explains why filling it out—especially the long form questionnaire—matters, and what it will reveal about Jewish life in Canada today. The census gathers data on religion, ethnic origin, languages spoken at home and household composition—information researchers use to track key demographic shifts. According to Margolis, a sociology professor at Western University in London, the most recent census shows 83 per cent of Canadian Jews identify religiously as Jewish, down from 89 per cent two decades ago, while the share identifying as Jewish by ethnic origin only has risen to 17 per cent (from 11 per cent). She also finds that 50 per cent of couples in households with at least one Jewish partner are now interfaith—up from about 40 per cent 20 years ago. Margolis expects the next census to show an even more diverse community, shaped in part by recent immigration from Israel following Oct. 7, as well as from Ukraine and Latin America. On this edition of Parallax Views, journalist Eric Margolis returns to discuss his articles "The Honey Trap on East 71st" and, more recently, "The Epstein Scandal". Margolis recounts his experience at a luncheon hosted by Epstein at his palatial residence on East 71st Street in New York City. Margolis was offered a 'massage' soon after arriving at Epstein's house, and was puzzled by it. As someone who'd spent time in Russia and dealt with KGB, he immediately believed that this was a honey trap. That is to say, an operation to get kompromat on prominent, influential, and powerful individuals through sexual liasons. Margolis believes that at the heart of the Epstein scandal is espionage, specifically an intelligence operation, and blackmail. He also speculates that Israeli intelligence fingerprints are all over the case. 154 - Peter Margolis (Collecting Loud History) In episode 154 of “Have Guitar Will Travel”, presented by Vintage Guitar Magazine, host James Patrick Regan speaks with Author, Director and Marshall amplifier collector as well as guitarist, Peter Margolis. In their conversation Peter tells us about his new project, a book documenting his and his business partner Brian Ranks collection of vintage Marshall amplifiers titled “Collecting Loud History”. Peter describes how his small collection of vintage Marshall's was destroyed in the '94 LA earthquake and that led him to his partner in the collection Brian Ranks through pedal board manufacturer Bob Bradshaw and from there the collection grew. Peter tells us about his early collection and his band in the ‘80's and what Hollywood and the greater LA area were like at that time. Peter tells us about his tv and film career starting on the Young and the Restless, Soap, the Voice and eventually doing a documentary on his friend and teacher Randy Rhodes. Peter talks about his very first concert Quiet Riot and how that led to taking lessons and becoming friends with Randy Rhodes. Peter tells us about purchasing guitar parts from Grover Jackson and his collection of Charvels as well as his other guitars within his collection. Peter tells us about Randy Rhodes before Ozzy and his tapes of his lessons and note books of Randy's notes to him and describes a bit of the documentary he made of the pre Ozzy relationship between Randy and singer Kevin Dubrow from Quiet Riot. Peter describes the pre “hair band” era of Hollywood was like. Finally Peter tells us how the LA fires changed his outlook on keeping his collection in the LA area there and where he's planning on taking it and plans for a volume two of the book.
