    Today's guest is Jay Sukow. Jay Sukow has been performing with and without a script for over 27 years. He has trained with some of the greatest in improv, including David Razowsky, Stephen Colbert, Mick Napier, and the legendary Del Close. He was the Artistic Director/Head of Training at the Improv Comedy Copenhagen Theatre, and previously taught for Second City, ComedySportz, and iO Chicago (where he was also head of the artistic committee).  Jay has taught at improv festivals all over the world, and he also won The Golden Pineapple award for best visiting teacher at Improv Comedy Copenhagen.  Jay's directing credits include the feature film “Trubadeaux: A Restaurant Movie”, "Guilty: The Web Series", and commercials for Allstate.  He has extensive teambuilding experience, and has thrived in the corporate arena, designing interactive learning sessions for companies like McDonald's, PepsiCo, Netflix, Eli Lilly, Yahoo!, and Allstate Financial Services.     Today's guest is a true superstar of magic. My guest today is Colin Cloud! He's the only magician in history to perform on London's West End, Broadway and the Las Vegas Strip.  Colin specializes in mentalism, and he's so good that he's been described as a real life Sherlock Holmes.  Colin performed as “The Deductionist” in the touring magic show The Illusionists.  He was also a contestant on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and completed on Britain's Got Talent in 2012.  You may also remember Colin as a semi-finalist on Season 12 of America's Got Talent, and also participated in the very first season of America's Got Talent: The Champions.  Colin Cloud has continued to be one of magic's top performers, and is currently preparing to open his brand new show this Summer at Harrah's in Las Vegas.     Today is the return of LD's Tips! Today's tip is about how not every scene we do in improv needs to be funny. We often feel that funny scenes are a "requirement" in order to do good improv. Making the audience laugh is great, but it's even more special to make the audience feel. This tip talks about my feelings on exactly that.     My guest today is someone who I've had the pleasure of getting to know, he's an excellent improv actor who hails from the great state of Nebraska.  Today's guest is Dylan Oakes Rhode. Dylan is a graduate of Wayne State, and has trained and performed at UCB and iO.  He now travels the country and the world teaching improv at various theaters and festivals.  In 2011, Dylan founded Backline Comedy, which originally began teaching improv classes in the basement of a small art gallery.  They recently opened their new theater, and have since become Omaha's destination for live comedy shows. Dylan is also the founder of the Omaha Comedy Fest, which began in 2013 and has since been offering fans access to intimate shows and hilarious experiences with established and emerging comedians from across the country. I had the opportunity to talk to Dylan just before one of his classes at Backline Comedy Theater.  In this conversation, he shares about his early beginnings in improv and the process of getting his theater started.  There's a lot to learn in this conversation, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.     My guest today is Patti Stiles. Patti is an actor, director, playwright and teacher who specializes in improvisational theatre. She is a former Artistic Director of Rapid Fire Theatre in California, and a founding member of the award winning show Die Nasty – the live improvised soap opera.  She is known as the “Queen of Improvisation” by the Canadian press.  Patti has been featured on the cover of the Spanish improv magazine Status; she is a contributor to the book The Art of Making Mistakes and has been interviewed for the books Something Like A Drug and The Improv Handbook. She's also been interviewed for numerous podcasts and University papers, and her blog has been translated into French, Italian, German and Portuguese. Patti Stiles released her first book in 2021 titled Improvise Freely, which has received an enthusiastic response from improvisors, teachers and impro companies around the globe, and was even translated into Italian in 2022.  In Improvise Freely, Patti talks about throwing away the typical improv rulebooks, and encourages performers to be free to unleash their creativity.     Today's guest is beyond talented and a true inspiration to so many.  My guest today is Lisa Lynn. Lisa Lynn is a multi-talented performer.  She is an actor, singer, improviser, director, writer, and voiceover artist.  After receiving her Honours Degree in Musical Theatre in 2009, Lisa moved to London and has been working as a performer there, and around the world, ever since.  Lisa has been teaching and performing improv since 2015.  According to her she is a story teller; all of her emotions are readily available to her, always bubbling below the surface; and she loves the work. In 2018, Lisa brought her love of improv and musical theater together with the creation of Acaprov, an improvised a cappella musical show.  Every performance is unique.     My guest is someone who's loads of fun to talk to and learn from.  Today, I'm talking to Chris Alvarado. He's an amazing improv teacher and performer, and trained at The Second City Conservatory in Chicago, iO West, and UCB LA.  Chris created his workshops to provide a space for work that is fun, but also meaningful.  He believes in exploring beyond the rules so performers can find their own source of inspiration and make meaningful connections with others, which I'm also all about.  Chris currently performs at the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica, California, and has also appeared two shows on HBO Max called “Minx” and “Hacks”.  He also co-created the web series "7p10e," about a couple who begin dating long distance.     I'm very excited to share that today's guest is none other than Brad Sherwood! Of course you all know Brad from the Emmy nominated show Whose Line Is It Anyway where he performed for over 18 seasons as a regular.  He is truly one of the greatest living American improvisers, and also has many other television credits like the Drew Carey Show, Talk Soup, The Newz, Improv-a-ganza, VH-1's: I Love The 80s & 90s, and The Tonight Show.  Brad also tours comedy clubs around the US with his fast and furious comedy show, and has also been touring with fellow Whose Line member Colin Mochrie in a live two-man improv show.     Today's guest is one of the busiest working magicians in the world, and his name is Nick Locapo. Nick Locapo is an internationally celebrated magician, instructor, and lecturer, and is also a regular performer at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, California.  Nick also performs at other well-known magic venues, like Chicago Magic Lounge, House of Cards, Mystique Dining, and Kellars.  Nick currently stars in his own show called Masterpiece Magic, which NBC Universal calls “Absolutely Mind Blowing”.  In Masterpiece Magic, Nick performs impossible levitations, flawless sleight of hand, and super-powered mind tricks that blur the line between what's possible, and impossible.  Nick is also the official magician for Penguin Magic, one of the largest and most well-known magic shops in the world.     Today, I got the opportunity to talk to another great magician!  And, he is also a talented improviser as well! My guest today is Michael Dardant. Michael is an magician, actor, and comedian with over 30 years of experience.  He's a New Orleans favorite, and is one of the highest ranked magicians in the United States. He's been a featured performer at the Hollywood Magic Castle, The Chicago Magic Lounge, and tours theaters around the world.  Recently, he was named International Ambassador to the Quebec Magic Festival and was also inducted into the Magic Circle in London.  Michael Dardant has also competed in various magic competitions all over the world, including FISM, and has won 32 championship awards and 8 international titles.  As a magician, his original and stunning sleight of hand is enthralling and recognized with International accolades! And as a comedian, he catches any crowd off guard with a genuine Cajun flair.     My guest today is such a talented performer and a real fun guy to be around.  He loves what he does and he loves life, and he is Gregory Hollimon. Gregory is a veteran of the world famous Second City in Chicago, and performed with the National Touring company all over the United States.  Throughout his career, he has performed in so many great improv shows, as well as various plays and films. You may also remember him as Principal Onyx Blackman from the hit show Strangers With Candy on Comedy Central, which he co-stared along with Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert.  Gregory is also a cast member of the hit show Pimprov, an improv show in Chicago about 4 pimps who took improv classes by accident.     Today's guest is Brian Palermo. Brian is an actor, improv instructor, comedian and science communicator.  He's performed and taught at The Groundlings in Hollywood, California, and has performed alongside many well-known comedians such as Will Ferrell, Eddie Izzard and Harland Williams.  He is also one of the original cast members of The Crazy Uncle Joe Show, one of The Groundlings' weekly, long-form improv sets.  From his experience as an improv instructor, he created Palermo Improv Training which is a communications consultancy that uses the experiential learning of improvisational theatre to upgrade human performance across businesses, the science enterprise and sketch and improv comedy. Brian has also appeared on multiple television shows and movies, which include Big Momma's House, The Social Network, Grown-ish, The Happytime Murders, and Modern Family, and that's only a partial list.  Brian is also an accomplished writer, and his writing projects include Warner Brothers' Histeria! and Disney's The Weekenders and Dave The Barbarian, both created by Doug Langdale.     I've had the opportunity to talk to a lot of inspiration people on this podcast, but I have to say today's guest has one of the most inspirational stories I've ever heard.  He lives by the motto “being different is your superpower”, and his name is John Kippen. John is a magician, a motivational speaker, and a master storyteller.  He's a performer at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, and has been featured in various publications such as International Magic Magazine, Genii, CEO Weekly, and Redx, and in July 2019 John appeared as a speaker for TEDx. In 2021, John Kippen's documentary titled “John's Ultimate Illusion” was voted Best Inspirational Documentary at the Doc LA Film Festival.  His documentary is a glimpse into his life and features appearances from other amazing people including Jamie Lee Curtis.     Today I get to talk to another improv legend, Mick Napier. Mick is known both nationally and internationally as an innovator and creative force in comedy, improvisation, and theater. His belief in the element of risk-taking is what influences his work and his direction.  He is one of the founders of the world-famous Annoyance Theater in Chicago, where Mick has spent more than 20 years developing and cultivating a style of work and production that has been both acclaimed and imitated.  Mick Napier is also a Director and Artistic Consultant for the internationally renowned Second City, and has made his mark having directed more than 10 revues there.  He's written 2 acclaimed books called “Improvise: Scene from the Inside Out” and “Behind the Scenes: Improvising Long Form”, both of which are considered some of the best books on the craft of improvisation.     Today, I'm talking to an old friend who I've had the pleasure of learning with, shared the stage with and have watched develop into an amazing performer.  My guest today is Diane Jorge. Diane has been a comedic performer for over 13 years in South Florida, and has performed with various theaters including Just The Funny, Front Yard Theater Collective and ImprovU.  Diane performs improv and stand-up comedy all across the United States, and she's become one of the top female performers in South Florida. Diane has developed 2 amazing one-person improvised shows.  Her first show is Mercado de la Fortuna, inspired by the famous astrologer Walter Mercado, where she gives improvised fortunes to audience members. Her second show is called Solovela, a solo improvised telenovela that she creates based on audience suggestions, and plays all of the characters. Diane was actually a student of mine at Just The Funny, and since the first time I met her I could tell that she had an energy level unlike anyone else I've ever met.  Her energy, her passion, her drive is so infectious, she knows how to get herself out there and go big.     My friends, today's guest is Bruce Gold. He is by far one of the greatest comedy magicians today.  He has performed all over the country as both a magician and a stand-up comedian, and has performed in various venues in Las Vegas, aboard the world's largest cruise ships, and he's a regular at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood.  Bruce has also had many television appearances, including Oprah, Full House, Masters of Illusion, and Penn & Teller Fool Us.  You might remember Bruce from his award winning “Got Milk” commercial, where he plays the magician at a retirement home birthday party and makes the elderly people's milk disappear.  (Spoiler alert: it doesn't end well for him!) Bruce is also the host of his own TV talkshow called The Bruce Gold Show, a weekly comedy, variety talkshow with fun and fascinating interviews presented with family friendly humor. Bruce Gold was an absolute blast to talk to.  He was very warm and friendly, and he shared so much knowledge about the art of magic and comedy.  I felt like I was listening to a very wise teacher.  This was such a fun time, and I'm happy to share this fun time with you, my friends! Douglas is a professional actor, and is a veteran of UCB Theater, PIT Theater, and Magnet Theaters in New York City.  He has performed in various shows and festivals across the country, and has also had multiple television appearances including on Comedy Central and ESPN.  Douglas is also a founding member of the world-renowned improv group, North Coast, a hip hop improv group that has been named one of Timeout NY's top 10 comedy shows.  In addition, Douglas Widick is also a musician and audio producer with over 20 years of experience.  He has his own studio in Brooklyn called Suite Tea Studios, where he provides everything from voiceover reels and jingles, to mixing and mastering services.     Today we go outside the norm with my guest who is not an improv actor or a magician. But he's someone I admire tremendously. He's my best friend of 30 years, he is Jose Prendes. Jose is a director, writer, and producer of various films that include The Monster Man, Corpses Are Forever, The Haunting of Whaley House, Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, Unspeakable Horrors: The Plan 9 Conspiracy, The Legend of La Llorona, and the Headless Horseman.  His latest film is called The Exorcists, which he wrote and directed with an amazing cast that includes Kayla Fields, Denice Duff, Victor Maraña, and Doug Bradley (Pinhead from the Hellraiser movies). In The Exorcists, Jose managed to do the impossible: shoot an entire movie in just 6 days! Jose Prendes is also an author, and his books include The Harbinger, Sharks of the Living Dead, Viewer Beware – The Goosebumps TV Companion, The Are You Afraid of the Dark Campfire Companion, Sharkcano, and Elementary, My Dear Watson #1 - The Astounding Adventure of the Ancient Dragon.     My guest today is Will Luera. Will is a comedic actor, presenter, writer, trainer and director, with a varied tool set that adds so many layers to his performances.  He is currently the Director of Improvisation at Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, Director of Big Bang Improv and serve as the Artistic Director Emeritus of ImprovBoston.  His professional skills also include corporate training, workplace mediation, IT generalist, personal trainer, and wedding officiant.  Will has also been seen at numerous improv festival across the country and around the world, including the Phoenix Improv Festival, Curious Comedy Theater Lovefest, Twin City Improv Festival, Countdown improv Festival, Miami Improv Festival, and Finland International Improv Festival.  And that's only partial list of the many festivals he's done. I've had quite a few opportunities to meet this guy.  You can tell that he is someone who loves to have fun, and help everybody else have fun too.  He's kind, he's warm-hearted, he's an absolute pleasure to be around.  This was a great opportunity for me to learn more about him, and now you will too!     Today's guest is one of the current top magicians.  He's become an international sensation, and his name is Javi Bentiez. Javi is a master of sleight of hand, but more importantly he performs with such a high level of charm, beauty and passion.  What Javi presents aren't simply tricks; they are pieces of art.  He hails originally from Sevilla, Spain, and was a student of some of magic's biggest influencers like Arturo de Ascanio and Juan Tamariz.  He's a regular performer at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, and has performed and lectured at various stages in Las Vegas and around the world. He's also performed on many national and international tv shows, including Penn & Teller: Fool Us.  And yes, he also won his very own Fool Us trophy, and has since been described by Penn & Teller as “the best sleight of hand artists we've ever seen”. Mark has performed, directed, and taught improv for over 30 years.  He's one of the founding members of The Annoyance Theater, he's performed and taught improv at Second City, both in Chicago and Toronto, and has performed at numerous venues and festivals all over the world.  Mark also teaches improv to people in the academic and business world, and his clients include major companies like GE Healthcare, Major League Baseball, McDonalds and Yahoo.  He's also one half of the world renowned show Bassprov, which he performs alongside improv legend Joe Bill.
