Aside from the release of Christopher Nolan's period piece magician caper The Prestige, the year 2006 had one more trick up its sleeve in the form of Neil Burger's adaptation of Steven Millhauser's short story "Eisenheim the Illusionist." Set in turn-of-the-century Vienna, Austria, the film stars Edward Norton as a poor magician who falls in love with a countess (Jessica Biel) while rivals Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell) and Chief Inspector Uhl (Paul Giamatti) seek to discredit and apprehend him. With a star-studded cast and music by Philip Glass, Burger's film weaved in historical events to cast a spell over audiences and critics alike. And even though it pulled off the trick of getting into cinemas a month and a half before The Prestige, this flick didn't quite steal as much coin as Nolan's. However, both films scored Oscar nominations for their cinematographers - Bill Pope for this one and Wally Pfister for The Prestige - and are roughly tied on ranking sites like Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and Letterboxd. But where does reality end and imagination begin? We're pulling back the curtain to see if there is truth in The Illusionist! This week Andrew talks with international magician & escape artist Matt Johnson. In 2018, Matt stunned the world with his death-defying escape from a locked & chained water-filled tank on Britain's Got Talent. That moment, which has now been viewed over 500 million times, was the result of decades of hard work and catapulted Matt's career to new heights. Matt has appeared on numerous TV shows, toured with The Illusionists, performed on Broadway, & headlines on both Celebrity & Royal Caribbean cruise ships. In this conversation, Matt shares some of the most powerful ideas he's learned on his journey. This episode is about so much more than magic — it's filled with actionable lessons on developing creative ideas, differentiating yourself authentically, bouncing back when adversity strikes, & so much more. ** Follow Andrew **Instagram: @AndrewMoses123X: @andrewhmosesSign up for e-mails to keep up with the podcast at everybodypullsthetarp.com/newsletterDISCLAIMER: This podcast is solely for educational & entertainment purposes. Cole Allen is at the center of yet another act of political violence in his apparent attempt to shoot President Trump at the 2026 White House Correspondent's Dinner, though he said in his manifesto: "Administration officials (not including Mr. Patel): they are targets, prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest." The ordeal became more esoteric when it was discovered his fellowship at NASA, in the midst of missing scientists, and his name on an old X account called Henry Martinez, the latter name found in research for NASA and Lockheed Martin--supposedly the company responsible for the TicTac--at the core of UFO Disclosure debates at the White House. The profile header is a psychedelic artwork, found on a website called Time Machine, that many are also claiming has the Butler, PA, assassination photograph embedded. This has led people to speculate that time travel, even the Ingersoll Lockwood series, is relevant once more. It might be that much of this is a manufactured alternate explanation for what was really behind the shooting. Besides talking points about strong men like Stephen Miller, Pete Hegseth or even Trump, protecting their wives, mockingbird social influencers jumped online to parrot the need for the new Presidential ballroom. This is where things take a more occult turn. The layout of that room, according to the Presidential image, is akin to Solomon's Temple. Trump recently fired McCrery Architects in favor of Shalom Baranes, a Jewish architect who works on Synagogue temple renovations. Furthermore, the shooting took place on April 25, the same day that America Reads the Bible collaboration concluded; the event where Trump read 2 Corinthians 7 about the Jewish temple. Cole Allen was also photographed on social media wearing what appears to be an IDF shirt. On the Jewish-run CBS, Trump immediately sat down for an interview where he said Allen "was a Christian believer, and then he became an anti-Christian." Allen wrote in his manifesto: "I am a citizen of the United States of America. What my representatives do reflects on me. And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes." Trump responded to the comments on CBS, saying Allen was "sick" and that he personally had nothing to do with "Epstein." Laura Loomer (Jewish) referenced the same, saying Allen "was radicalized by the podcasters who spread Epstein conspiracy theories and Israel conspiracy theories. He thought Trump was a pedo and owned." Debra Lea (Jewish) went viral for her Instagram-posing cover of the post-shooting event in her skimpy dress and Star of David necklace. Olivia Reingold (Jewish) went viral for posting a video of her hiding near a table while almost everyone around her was standing or walking around. The central entertainment of the event was Jewish magician Oz Pearlman. In other words, anyone concerned about the Epstein files, the war in Iran, or Israeli influence on American politics, is no better than Cole Allen. While conspiracy theorists fall into a blackhole of random X accounts, a ritual production has produced the desired outcome. The political hyperreality is that it doesn't matter what is or is not real. Uri Geller, another Jewish magician, made a video the same weekend claiming he went to South Korea to assist in the recovering of an alien craft. Are Jews using the UFO narrative to position themselves as the "chosen" people of an alien presence linked to the Old Testament? Are Jews using Trump to build the Third Temple in the White House, that shining building of the American Zion? Even though it is strange JD Vance was rushed off stage before Trump, it is likely the event was about more than simply staging Trump as the strong leader.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Carl gets to talk about "magic" for the first time ever on the show. Kevin Blake made a 180-degree change in his working life. He moved from a promising career in digital marketing, working with big time clients (JanSport Backpacks, Lagunitas Brewing Company, Duraflame, Intel and more), to working as a professional Illusionist / Entertainer. He always had a passion for performing magic and took the big leap, turning his fun side gig into a lucrative and totally rewarding career. His AHA moment came during the pandemic, when he performed online magic shows multiple times a day for companies. He made an insane amount of money in just one month -- December of 2020 (you'll need to listen to believe). Kevin has competed and performed on a national level -- America's Got Talent and Penn & Teller: Fool us. He is the star 3-4 nights a week as The Illusionist at The Palace Theater. Jamie Harrison is a renowned illusion designer, visual effects creator, and theater artist, who, alongside collaborator Chris Fisher, is responsible for the jaw-dropping illusions in Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the stage play prequel to the Stranger Things series. Both Jamie and Chris earned a Special Tony Award for Illusions & Technical Effects earlier this year.In this conversation, Jamie walks through his background as a magician and theater artist and the deep historical roots of magic in live performance. He also shares the rigorous process of designing for large-scale theater, how ancient illusionist traditions can be used to create state-of-the-art spectacle and explains why the most rewarding magic is built on precision, surprise, and storytelling. This is the third in a series of conversations I've had with the multiple creative forces behind Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which I cannot recommend highly enough. Seriously if you're in the New York or London area, this show is an absolute must. It completely blew me away and defied what I thought was possible to do on a stage. This was a really fascinating and fun conversation and if you enjoy it I recommend also checking out my conversation with Jamie's partner on the show, Chris Fisher and the writer of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Kate Trefry. In this episode of Mark and Pete, we dive headfirst into the swirling madness of modern life — where microplastics have made their way into our bloodstreams, wrestling legends are finding Jesus, and comedy giants collapse mid-sketch on live TV. We start with the disturbing reality that plastic is now part of the human body. Studies, including a recent Chinese investigation, show that microplastics are not just in our oceans — they're in our veins. What does this mean for creation, the body, and the soul? Next, we remember the iconic Tommy Cooper, who died on stage in 1984 in front of 12 million viewers. With his cape recently bought by illusionist David Copperfield for £8,500, we reflect on the blurred lines between performance and mortality. Then, to the wrestling ring: Hulk Hogan — a.k.a. Terry Bollea — now born again and baptised. Supported by The Rock, backed Trump, and now washed in water. What's going on beneath the bandana? Blending humour, theology, and cultural critique, Mark and Pete tackle the surreal truth behind plastic in the blood, death in the spotlight, and salvation in spandex.Bible Verse of the episode: Romans 8:22–23Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mark-and-pete--1245374/support.
What if magic wasn’t just smoke and mirrors, but a doorway into deeper faith? What if curiosity wasn’t something to outgrow, but something to reclaim — even in your walk with Jesus? In this episode, we explore the intersection of illusion, inquiry, and intimacy with God, and how wonder may be one of the most powerful evangelistic tools we’ve overlooked. In this unforgettable conversation, Dr. Zach Clinton and guest co-host Joshua Broome sit down with Drew Worsham, an acclaimed illusionist, author, and pastor who has spent over 20 years integrating magic and ministry in a way that captivates audiences and points them to Christ. Together, they dive into: how illusions can reveal truth rather than distract from it; the power of childlike faith and spiritual curiosity; why Jesus was the most curious person to walk the earth and how that shaped His relationships; how wonder, empathy, and questioning can deepen our relationship with God and others; practical ways to rekindle awe in an age of cynicism; and Drew’s new book, The Magic of Curiosity, and his heart behind it. Whether you’re a skeptic, seeker, or seasoned believer, this episode will challenge your assumptions and reignite your awe. Connect with Drew Worsham

I went to see an illusionist, and it completely blew my mind. I had to share it with you! I was so amazed, I walked out of the first show and immediately bought tickets for the next night's show. It was that good! In this episode, I'm recapping the wild, magical, and mind-reading madness that had me (and the whole audience) questioning reality. From sleight of hand to straight-up telepathy, this illusionist delivered a show that had me wondering: Is this magic… or something more? I also dive into what 25 years of mastering a craft really looks like — the detail, the discipline, and the showmanship. If you love a little mystery, a lot of awe, and the thrill of being totally fooled in the best way, this one's for you. I highly recommend seeing this kind of show at least once in your life.
