POPULARITY
In episode #79, we discussed one of the best instrumental albums ever recorded. It is the Quarteto Novo's first and only album, released in 1967 via Odeon in Brazil. This album was fundamental in bringing Northeast folklore music to a national audience, sparsely blended with bebop jazz, bossa, folk, with cinematic arrangements and great musicianship. The quartet of percussionist Airto Moreira, guitarist Heraldo do Monte, bassist Theo de Barros and flutist/pianist Hermeto Pascoal deviated from conventional time signatures and created a very innovative sound not only in Brazil, but for the whole world. Repasando algunas de sus producciones históricas volvemos a los cimientos de Panart, la etiqueta pionera que con carácter independiente, sentó las bases de la industria discográfica nacional. En 1944, con una producción discográfica regular, el ingeniero de sonido Ramón Sabat marcó un antes y un después en el panorama de producción, edición y difusión de la música en la isla. Hasta la aparición de Panart, todo lo atractivo y apetecible que acontecía artística y musicalmente lo registraban emporios norteamericanos. Entre ellos los de mayor presencia Columbia y Victor, esta última fusionada ya en los primeros años 40 con la Radio Corporation of América (RCA). Aún latente la segunda guerra mundial, Sabat comenzó a instalarse en la habanera calle San Miguel no.410. Con el equipamiento técnico mínimo e indispensable, listo para comenzar a grabar y prensar sus producciones, echaba a andar una maquinaria de difusión exitosa que, en un país esencialmente musical, trazó un camino señero para otros emprendedores de la época. Nacía entonces la industria fonográfica independiente cubana. Hacia 1960 la representaban poco más de 30 sellos con unos volúmenes de producción estable y con una presencia importante en el extranjero. La política cultural en función del control absoluto y la estatalización de los medios de difusión, entronizada por el régimen militar instaurado en 1959 (a través de las llamadas "intervenciones") comenzó a poner punto final al flujo de promoción musical sustentado por una eficiente maquinaria de producción, edición y difusión de música popular cubana que funcionaba maravillosamente dentro y fuera de la Isla. El 30 de mayo de 1961 la Panart fue "nacionalizada". Ramón Sabat, su fundador, forzado al exilio murió en los Estados Unidos el 15 de marzo de 1986 completamente olvidado. Los históricos estudios que fundó hace más de ocho décadas en La Habana los ocupa EGREM. Las memorias de la industria discográfica nacional que, en la frontera de los años 50 a los 60, gozaba de maravillosa salud, nos sirve de pretexto para reverenciar el arte del pianista Frank Emilio Flynn. Así retomamos las ediciones del sello independiente "Tropicana". El productor radial Adolfo Seeman quien desempeñaba sus labores en la emisora habanera CMOX con un perfil dedicado al jazz, propició en dos álbumes el debut discografico del llamado "Quinteto de Música Moderna". Junto a Frank Emilio: Papito Hernández en contrabajo, Tata Güines en las tumbadoras, Guillermo Barreto alternando drums y pilas, y Gustavo Tamayo en güiro. Producciones "Tropicana" afianzando en el mercado discografico independiente, la categoría del jazz cubano. Seguimos repasando la banda sonora de los primeros años 60. El argentino Luis Aguilé, precedido por sus grabaciones para la etiqueta Odeon, a la par de conquistar un público netamente adolescente, encontró en Cuba una fenomenal plaza que impulsó su carrera. Aparte de la mega influencia de ídolos norteamericanos como Elvis, Paul Anka o Neil Sedaka, también por esas fechas las grabaciones de "Los Cinco Latinos" y las del mexicano Manolo Muñoz fueron conformando un sedimento estético y sonoro donde estrellas nacientes como el rockero de Palma Soriano: Luisito Bravo se dieron a conocer. Seguimos conectados con la industria del disco independiente cubano. Hacia 1961, en pleno auge el formato de los combos, las grabaciones de Luisito Bravo con los arreglos y acompañamientos del imprescindible Eddy Gaytán, producidas por la etiqueta Velvet, esbozaban la categoría del pop rock cubano, abriendo un camino que muy pronto seguirían otros exponentes. Algunos de los abuelos del pop rock cubano se apoyaron en estilos como el twist, el wawá, el gogó, el yeyé y el shake. Sobrevivieron en un ambiente sonoro marcado por la estatalización del sistema de difusión donde sus canciones no tenían mucho qué hacer. Luisito Bravo, Lita del Real, Raul Gómez con Los Bucaneros, Danny Puga y Luisa María Güell despiden el programa.
El saxofonista y flautista brasileño Lucas Figueiredo Santana, en un disco que se titula 'Bosquejos do Brasil', toca con sus músicos habituales y un cuarteto de cuerdas de Amsterdam 'Manhã de carnaval', de Luiz Bonfá, y 'Vera Cruz', canción de Milton Nascimento que el cuarteto del baterista Sergio Reze ha unido a 'O vento', de Dorival Caymmi, en su disco 'Um olhar interior' que contiene también grabaciones de 'Gaúcho. Corta jaca', de Chiquinha Gonzaga, 'Ternura', de K-Ximbinho, 'Conversa de botequim', de Noel Rosa, y, de Antonio Carlos Jobim, 'Chovendo na roseira' y 'Chega de saudade'. When the writer of Luke's gospel litters his stories with the names of politicians and references to their political maneuverings, we are meant to pay attention. When the tale of a 12-year-old Jesus choosing to remain in the temple occurs DURING THE PASSOVER… and IN JERUSALEM… we are meant to notice. It is, after all, bookended with the story Luke will tell at what turns out to be the very end of Jesus' life, also during the Passover and also in Jerusalem. What occurs in both occasions is a potent confluence of religion and politics. And, in Jesus' very first independent decision in recorded history, he opts to stay at that confluence. Jesus chose to remain where faith was potent, consequential, and in direct conversation with the politics of his day. Their first album for Odeon, which was Milton Nascimento's label, a lot of the musicians involved in this recording had contributions to Clube da Esquina. The album was a commercial failure at the time, but over the years this version became a hot commodity among DJs, record collectors, producers, and rappers including Kanye West and Pharell Williams.

And I have also been shiny hunting a lot more in (0:02:41) Micah: Pokemon, but in older Pokemon games, I’ve been kind of (0:02:44) Micah: revisiting and kind of I don’t know what the term is, like (0:02:53) Micah: realigning myself with what I loved about Pokemon, and not so (0:02:56) Micah: much the how what modern Pokemon has become, I guess. And there’s (0:03:03) Micah: been a lot of like interesting I found in the (0:03:07) Micah: the kind of like deeper level in community, there’s a lot (0:03:12) Micah: of like really interesting new things that people have found (0:03:15) Micah: or like, you know, different hunts that people have set up (0:03:20) Micah: like one of the things that I’m working on right now is shiny (0:03:22) Micah: hunting, Kanto starters in the original gen one virtual console (0:03:27) Micah: games, which is something that you can do, but you have to do (0:03:27) Al: Oh, why? (0:11:08) Al: So I bought the game to play Shadow Generations. And let me tell you, I still do not like 3D Sonic games, even when it’s Shadow you’re playing as instead. (0:42:22) Al: A new leaf memories chill town for lands fields of mystery garden life cozy simulator go go down like your frontier of life and land and over magic. (0:42:36) Al: And the opinions from other hosts are one that I think we can probably discount over magic because it sounds magical. I think this person. I think this person has not played any early access games this year. (0:42:46) Codey: With the shrug emoji? (0:42:50) Al: Uh, we have to vote. (0:42:52) Al: I think the early access game of the year should be demos. (0:42:58) Al: Honestly, everything that’s come out in early access has been a disappointment. (0:43:02) Al: It’s become the vehicle for a game with a single cool concept to release, get bits of hype, and then proceed to deliver something exceptionally mid. (0:43:10) Al: Meanwhile, there has been a resurgence of demos, games trying to win your business by offering a slice. (0:43:14) Al: These games are the ones that have brought me joy this year. (0:43:18) Al: this year, death to early access, long-lived demos. (0:43:22) Al: So that’s two votes for Fields of Mystery and one for demos. (0:43:27) Al: There’s not any specific demo, just demos in general. (0:43:34) Al: For me, it’s Fields of Mystery. (0:43:36) Al: I think Fields of Mystery is a fantastic start for the game. (0:43:40) Al: I think it does. (0:43:42) Al: What I really hate about Early Access is when it’s like, here’s the game, but it’s buggy. (0:43:49) Al: I much prefer how Fields of Mystery have done it and how (0:43:52) Al: like Ooblets did it and Carl Island did it, which is here is a very solid base for the game. It feels (0:43:59) Al: like it’s a complete game and you just hit roadblocks along the way. I think that’s a really good way (0:44:03) Al: of doing it. I do kind of agree with Johnny and that this can be a problem in many cases. It’s (0:44:08) Al: sometimes hard to go back to games when you’ve started with early access, but I do think that (0:44:13) Al: means most people probably just shouldn’t play early access games, but you know, what can you do? (0:44:20) Al: I also enjoyed Gogotown. (0:44:22) Al: I am not sure if this is a good one, but I feel like they have a lot more work to do to make a fully formed game. (0:44:28) Al: It also released in AWP, it didn’t feel buggy sort of aspect and you had the core bones of the game there, but there’s no real narrative there and it kind of felt a little bit like it fell off quite quickly. Send us a textIt was early winter 1970 in the city of Rotorua on the North Island of New Zealand. On the evening of Friday May 15th, 18 year old Olive Walker wrapped up warm and set out on foot to her sister's house across town, to babysit her nieces and nephews. Around an hour later Olive was spotted near the Odeon cinema in the centre of Rotorua, only ten minutes from her destination. This was the last time Olive was seen alive. A short time later multiple witnesses reported hearing screams from a nearby residential area. Within hours a group of teenagers discovered Olive's body in a highway rest area just out of town. The killer was long gone but had left some vital clues to their identity. His artistic world includes fauna, flora, planets and gods. Other events in his multi-faceted career included Egypt Revisited, sound and light spectacular in a tent on Clapham Common, 1978; decorations for Zandra Rhodes' fashion show, 1980; Snow Sculpture World Championships, Finland, 1982; piece in Holographic Show, York Arts Festival, 1984; debut as a theatre designer, Wolfy, Ballet Rambert, Big Top, Battersea, 1987; retrospective, Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, 1991, with tour; Jewels Fantasy Exhibition, Victoria & Albert Exhibition, 1992; a show at Cheltenham Art Gallery, 2000–1, and watercolours at A&D Gallery, 2002, in the same year there sharing an exhibition with Duggie Fields. In addition, Norwich Gallery held Logan's Alternative Miss World Filmshow 1972 to 2002. In 1991 the Andrew Logan Museum of Sculpture opened at Berriew, Powys.
