The conversation dives into Vision Pro updates and Apple's latest security patches, including a quirky “malicious font” bug. From there, the panel dissects an FCC leak that revealed a refreshed Vision Pro with an M5 chip—sparking jokes about the government “protecting secrets by giving them away.” Debate follows on whether Apple's reported pivot to AI-powered smart glasses is a strategic win or just creepy. Jason Snell's VisionOS review gets praise as thoughtful and balanced, while the panel adds their own takes on environments, widgets, and gaming controller support. iOS 26.0.1 and watchOS 26.0.2 are unpacked, addressing iPhone 17 connectivity and battery bugs, while macOS Tahoe gets flak for lingering Electron app slowdowns. Jeff delivers a mini public service announcement about Slack, Discord, and Trello devouring system memory. The panel shifts gears to Wallet app delivery tracking, which impresses some while frustrating others with inaccurate status updates. A lighter segment celebrates Apple finally adding seven new ringtones, prompting stories: Marty blasting Brick House in a faculty meeting, Jill rocking '80s ringtones, and Jeff's Futurama theme drawing smiles in public. Other highlights include:     •    CarPlay Ultra controversy — Ford pushes back, Jill's Subaru story about passengers killing her map, and Chuck's take on carmakers clinging to “unique” interfaces.     •    Privacy screen protectors — Jill recalls spying underwear ad designs on a plane, Jeff insists “just don't show sensitive info in public,” and Marty questions if this “solution” solves a problem at all.     •    Market trends — iPhone 17 Pro demand surges while the iPhone Air lags, with trade-in deals and China demand influencing sales. The panel shares excitement over their own incoming devices, including cosmic orange iPhone Pro models that sparked plenty of laughs and debate. Attention then turns to VisionOS 26, with deeper looks at new features such as persistent widgets, spatial browsing in Safari, and improved Personas. The panel debates whether Apple Vision Pro is truly lagging in consumer adoption or simply carving out a business-focused niche with use cases like Lowe's immersive design demos. From there, it's on to iOS 26 and its bold new Liquid Glass aesthetic, sparking spirited discussion around usability in apps like Messages, Safari, Photos, and CarPlay. Panelists share personal struggles, tips, and workarounds while reflecting on how “change is hard” — especially when muscle memory is involved. The group also covers watchOS 26 enhancements (sleep scores, workout buddy, hypertension alerts), tvOS improvements (better dark-scene rendering), and macOS Tahoe quirks (installation issues on M3 Ultra). Jeff even jokes about calling it “macOS Donner Party,” sending the panel into laughter. The episode also highlights AirPods Pro 3's new tricks — including live translation, sleep detection, and camera control gestures — and acknowledges early iPhone 17 software bugs like the infamous “white squigglies” camera glitch, which Apple is already patching. Wrapping up, the panel shares their new hardware purchases and charging accessories while keeping the mood lively with running jokes about Real Housewives, pumpkin spice, and cosmic orange cases.

On this episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through iOS 26 and Apple's other major software updates, which officially launched this week. ‌iOS 26‌ introduces a major visual overhaul with "Liquid Glass," making system elements more translucent and fluid. There are a series of new communication features, such as backgrounds in Messages and Call Screening. The Lock Screen can adapt dynamically to photo subjects, while Photos gains a new Library and Collections layout and spatial 3D effects for favorites. Apple also added a new Games app that combines a user's game library with Game Center content. iPadOS 26 focuses on transforming multitasking by replacing Split View and Slide Over with a full window management system. Users can freely resize app windows, minimize or maximize them with macOS-style traffic-light controls, and use a menu bar across apps. A new Mac-style toolbar and a redesigned cursor are also present. macOS 26 brings Liquid Glass to the desktop for a refreshed aesthetic. Spotlight is overhauled with new search categories and quick keys, Control Center is more customizable with new menu bar options, and iPhone Live Activities can now be viewed directly on the Mac. watchOS 26 brings improvements to the Control Center and Smart Stack, and brings Notes to the Apple Watch for the first time. New health features include hypertension notifications and Sleep Score, while fitness gains an AI-powered "Workout Buddy" for personalized guidance. A new wrist flick gesture lets users dismiss calls or alarms more intuitively. Having tested the updates for several months, we take an overall look at the updates. We discuss polarized reaction to Liquid Glass, and Apple's controversial decision to remove the iPad's Split View and Slide Over. We also talk through enhancements to Apple Intelligence, such as improved Visual Intelligence and the ability to access Apple's on-device foundation models directly in Shortcuts. ‌iOS 26‌, ‌iPadOS 26‌, ‌watchOS 26‌, macOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 are available now. ¡Nueva temporada!

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 16, 2025 6:36

The discussion covers the iPhone 17 lineup, including the Pro and Pro Max models powered by the A19 Pro chip, upgraded camera systems, and improved thermal cooling. Panelists debate upgrade cycles, storage needs, and even whether “pumpkin spice” (aka orange) should count as a phone color. We also break down the debut of the iPhone Air, Apple's thinnest iPhone yet, with its titanium build, new C1X modem, and unique design choices (including that hump). Is it just a super-thin marvel—or half of a future foldable iPhone? Opinions differ! Next up, the AirPods Pro 3 bring stronger noise cancellation, a heart rate sensor, and game-changing live translation features. The crew weighs whether these are must-have upgrades or evolutionary refinements. Finally, the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 take center stage, with blood pressure monitoring, sleep score features, and battery improvements sparking debate about health tracking and who benefits most from the new models. Throughout the episode, the panel reflects on how Apple's hardware has entered an iterative phase—solid and polished, but less revolutionary. Still, with new colors, health sensors, and smarter features, there's plenty to discuss, speculate, and laugh about in this jam-packed post-event recap . You download it the first time you use it.- It's interactive: use the new Explore Jupiter controls to choose Dawn, Sunrise, Afternoon, Sunset, Night and scrub time with a slider. You can also speed up Jupiter's rotation to watch storms and light shift in real time.- Your vantage point is Amalthea, one of Jupiter's inner moons, with accurate celestial motion around you.- Apple used NASA imagery for authenticity; the Great Red Spot is visible as you linger.- Public release of visionOS 26 is slated for Monday, September 15, 2025 (per current reporting). Why it matters- First Vision Pro Environment that invites active exploration (not just a static backdrop), hinting at richer, science-infused immersive scenes to come.- Ideal ambiance for space cinema sessions — think Apple TV+ sci-fi — with controllable lighting and planetary motion for vibe-matching.How to try it (quick steps)1. Update to visionOS 26 RC on Vision Pro.2. Open Control Center → Environments.3. Select Jupiter (first run will download assets).4. Tap Explore Jupiter to choose time-of-day presets or scrub time; try rotation speed-up to accentuate banding and storms.Pro tips for a great session- For movie night, set Sunset or Night to darken ambient light before pressing play.- After you've watched Jupiter for a bit at normal speed, look for the Great Red Spot creeping along the horizon — it's subtle and satisfying.- Look opposite Jupiter occasionally; you'll notice stars and other moons tracking realistically as Amalthea “turns.”Follow the live stream at YouTube.com/@VisionProfiles on Monday nights at 9 PM EST or catch the video later on Youtube or audio on any pod catcher service Email: ThePodTalkNetwork@gmail.com Website: ThePodTalk.Net

While some bugs remain, overall performance feels crisper and more polished. Looking ahead to the event, the conversation centers on the iPhone 17 lineup — including rumors of a lighter iPhone 17 Air, spatial photography integration for Vision Pro, and whether the upgrades justify an annual refresh. Opinions are divided: some are eager to upgrade, while others remain skeptical about how compelling the changes will be. The panel also dives into expected updates for the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3, including a possible return of blood oxygen monitoring and other health features. Marty talks about the recent list of best Apple Vision Pro apps of 2025  as suggested by PCMagazineThe Best Apple Vision Pro Apps for 2025https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-apple-vision-pro-appsWhat PCMag's list coversA spread across work/productivity, creativity & learning, entertainment, utilities, and games—with emphasis on apps that feel “native” in spatial computing. Work / ProductivityThings 3 (visionOS) — full task manager in floating windows; great with hand/eye input and multiple spaces. Zoom / Microsoft 365 / Box — core “office” stack is available on Vision Pro for meetings and docs (PCMag's earlier work-apps piece highlights these). Creativity & LearningNight Sky — astronomy in 3D space; spatial sky maps are a natural fit. Mindfulness (Apple) — breathing/reflect sessions as an ambient spatial experience; easy daily habit. Entertainment & MediaApple TV, Disney+, Prime Video, Crunchyroll — strongest “big screen” experiences today (some are iPad ports that still work well in an immersive theater). Note: Netflix still no app; use Safari as a fallback. YouTube native app is “on the roadmap.” GamesBlackbox (visionOS) — spatial puzzle design; Apple Design Award winner in Spatial Computing. Synth Riders — rhythm/fitness staple now on Vision Pro; good demo of full-body interaction. What the Golf? — playful physics/perspective gags translate well to big space. How to use the listPrioritize native visionOS apps first—they support depth, passthrough, and richer windowing. Then fill gaps with iPad ports you already love. Mix 2–3 apps per category to learn the UX: one work app (e.g., Things or Microsoft 365), one entertainment app (Apple TV/Disney+), one game (Synth Riders/Blackbox), and one wellness/learning app (Mindfulness/Night Sky). Quick takeawaysStart with one from each category to learn the platform's strengths.Prefer native visionOS versions for wow-factor and ergonomics.Expect a hybrid workflow until missing streaming apps arrive.Follow the live stream at YouTube.com/@VisionProfiles on Monday nights at 9 PM EST or catch the video later on Youtube or audio on any pod catcher serviceEmail: ThePodTalkNetwork@gmail.comWebsite: ThePodTalk.Net

Eric, Dave, and Marty speak about the new VisionOS 26 developer beta, talk about a potential YouTube app, and review Gurman's AVP/Meta comparison. NEWS this week Beta 8 came out today:https://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos-release-notes/visionos-26-release-notes What's new from beta 7 → beta 8Release/build only: Beta 8 arrived Aug 25, 2025 as 23M5332a (beta 7 was Aug 18 as 23M5328a). Apple doesn't list any additional new features, APIs, or headline-level changes for beta 8 beyond the build bump. Tooling: The latest posted tools are still Xcode 26 beta 6 (17A5305f) from Aug 18; no newer Xcode dropped alongside beta 8. Practical takeFor users: Treat beta 8 as a stability/bug-fix pass—no Apple-documented user-facing additions over beta 7. For developers: Re-run regressions on areas you touched for beta 7 (e.g., CompositorServices hover/immersion behavior, ARKit Accessory Tracking, RealityKit popover/presentation components, RemoteImmersiveSpace stability, StoreKit's new promo-offer APIs). Those were the substantive changes in beta 7 and remain the focus with beta 8. Marty discusses changes and additions in the newly released mVisionOS26 developer beta 7Today's Pronote: visionOS 26 Beta 7 Release Noteshttps://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos-release-notes/visionos-26-release-notesIf you were hoping for shiny new features… this one's about polish, not pop.For Vision Pro users, beta 7 doesn't add anything you'll immediately notice. Your day-to-day feels like beta 6. The same small quirks are still listed in the notes— occasional rough edges with Mac Virtual Display, and a few Safari oddities. Bottom line: if you're just looking to use the headset, this build is about stability, not new toys.No Jupiter environment and No curved panoramic Virtual displaysFor developers, there is one new callout: Apple flags a Memory Tools known issue where leak detectors can falsely report leaks in some Swift/Objective-C bridged cases. Translation: if your leak graph suddenly lights up after updating, take a breath—it might be the tools, not your app. Otherwise, the dev sections largely mirror beta 6—ARKIt, Metal, RemoteImmersiveSpace, StoreKit/SwiftUI—steady as she goes.Users: install if you want polish; don't expect features.Devs: keep testing, but treat new “leaks” with suspicion and focus on regression passes. What's new for Vision Pro usersNo newly announced features or UI changes.Experience should feel the same as beta 6.A few small quirks still listed (e.g., occasional Mac Virtual Display edge artifacts; some Safari behavior).Practical tip: If you were happy on beta 6, beta 7 is safe for polish; don't install just to chase features. What's new for developersMemory Tools: Possible false leak positives after updating—validate before refactoring. Most framework notes (ARKit, Metal, RemoteImmersiveSpace, StoreKit/SwiftUI) are effectively unchanged from beta 6.Good week for regression testing and performance measurements rather than API exploration.Email: ThePodTalkNetwork@gmail.com. Website: ThePodTalk.Net

Marty talks about the latest Gurman opinion about the lackluster amount of spatial video available for the AVP and implications for the futureFollow the live stream at YouTube.com/@VisionProfiles on Monday nights at 9 PM EST or catch the video later on Youtube or audio on any pod catcher serviceToday's ProNote: Apple's Vision Pro Is Suffering From a Lack of Immersive Videohttps://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2025-08-17/why-doesn-t-the-vision-pro-have-more-immersive-video-apple-is-slow-rolling-it-mefmwpb1 ·   Core problem: Vision Pro remains niche due to the $3,499 price and a lack of must‑have features; visionOS 26 polish (e.g., widgets) hasn't shifted perception.·   Immersive video = killer app… but scarce: Apple has slow‑rolled releases—about 27 total—so owners often feel there's little to watch.·   Concrete gaps: still promoting NBA All‑Star 2024 while no 2025 immersive version exists months later; concerts are limited (Metallica, Bono; a short Weeknd clip).·   Series are thin: Wild Life (4 eps), Elevated (1), Boundless (2), Adventure (5), Prehistoric Planet (2), Concert for One (1).·   3D ≠ truly immersive: 3D Disney/Harry Potter/James Bond titles don't deliver the all‑around‑you feel of Apple's immersive videos.·   Why the drip‑feed: Apple shot a lot of immersive content, but production is expensive and resource‑intensive; with slow sales, Apple is metering releases to avoid draining the reserve.·   Catch‑22: Immersive video is what sells the headset, yet low sales make a big content push hard to justify—leading to a standstill.·   Retail angle: Apple leans on immersive video in store demos because it's the strongest “wow” moment.·   Sales reality: Estimates suggest well under 1M U.S. units since launch, weakening the case for heavy near‑term spend on programming.·   Roadmap tension: A faster‑chip refresh could land this year (incremental), while a cheaper, lighter model isn't expected until 2027—risking today's content feeling dated by the time mass adoption arrives.·   Third‑party pipeline: Apple released a Mac app for immersive production and partnered with Blackmagic; a racing doc is due next month—but partners likely won't bridge the gap if Apple doesn't go big.·   Bottom line: Vision Pro's best trick is immersive video, but until Apple expands the library, it remains an impressive demo more than a reason to buy.Email: ThePodTalkNetwork@gmail.com. Website: ThePodTalk.Net

The episode transitions to the Vision Pro and its VisionOS 26 beta 6 release, noting a lack of major changes but reflecting on the broader developer beta process and the excitement or skepticism within the community, especially over anticipated new environments and hardware rumors like a possible M5 chip in future Vision Pro models. Apps in focus include SailGP, a mixed reality app for sports fans that sets a new standard for immersive race coverage and AR visualizations. The panel explores its strengths and ponders expansion to other sports. Meanwhile, iOS 26 beta 6 is dissected for its subtle UI enhancements and the Wallet app's new card vaulting feature, which brings all credit card info into one secure location for convenience and security. News of Apple Stores introducing on-site iPad repairs is received as a positive shift toward more customer-friendly service, though concerns about logistics and inventory remain. The possible release of a new entry-level MacBook at a sub-$999 price point is debated, with thoughts on its impact for education markets, users' expectations, and technical compromises. Further discussions highlight:     •    The panel's experiences with the F1 movie in IMAX, praising its immersive qualities and its educational insight into the sport.     •    A new nostalgic VHS-styled app, “Cassette,” for organizing and replaying old videos.     •    The security-focused vault app “Access,” alternative to 1Password, with analysis of its privacy, encryption, and use cases.     •    Apple Card's satisfaction ratings and comparison to other credit cards according to the latest JD Power survey.     •    The upcoming Apple Arcade September lineup, featuring NFL Retro Bowl 26 and Jeopardy Daily, which stirs memories and excitement for mobile gaming.     •    Updates about Netflix's redesign for tvOS and the implications for viewing convenience. Eric, Dave and Marty cover the new VisionOS developer beta 4, productivity and training use, and the best sailing experience you can get on land. What's New in VisionOS 26 Beta 4Build: 23M5300g – Released July 22, 2025 For Vision Pro Users: What You'll Notice in Beta 4• Smoother System Performance – General UI responsiveness is noticeably better—less jitter, quicker animation timing, and improved hand gesture accuracy.• Refined Visual Transitions – Window edges and movement feel more polished. Think glassy transitions with fewer graphical hiccups when opening or resizing apps.• Persistent Layouts – Apps, windows, or objects that you position in your environment now remember where you put them—even after a reboot.• More Natural Gaze Feedback – Interactive elements now subtly highlight when you look at them—menus glow or lift slightly when your gaze hovers, giving you a stronger sense of “touch” with your eyes. For Developers: What's New Under the HoodPersistence API – “Place it once, keep it always”What It Does:Lets developers anchor app content (like windows or widgets) to real-world surfaces that stay in place even after Vision Pro restarts.Compositor Updates – “Visuals That Adapt to You”• Hover Effects with Eye Tracking – As users gaze at buttons or menus, they now subtly highlight. • Dynamic Render Quality – Developers can adjust rendering sharpness or smoothness in real-time, based on user activity. Text and UI stay crisp when you need it. • Better Eye-Tracked Rendering (Foveation) – Vision Pro can now prioritize rendering quality at the center of your gaze, reducing quality around the edges. —————————————————————Apple has Filed for a series of Trademarks covering the Vision Pro Demo Fit App, macOS Tahoe, EnergyKit, 31 Mystery Designs and morehttps://www.patentlyapple.com/2025/07/apple-has-filed-for-a-series-of-trademarks-covering-the-vision-pro-demo-fit-app-macos-tahoe-energykit-31-mystery-designs-a.htmlWhy Apple's Vision Pro Could Redefine Game Mechanics on iOShttps://vocal.media/01/why-apple-s-vision-pro-could-redefine-game-mechanics-on-i-os The Best Apple Vision Pro Alternative You Can Actually Affordhttps://www.oliur.com/the-best-apple-vision-pro-alternative-you-can-actually-afford Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive test footage for Apple Vision Prohttps://www.fxguide.com/quicktakes/first-look-blackmagic-ursa-cine-immersive-test-footage-for-apple-vision-pro/ How to shut down and restart Apple Vision Prohttps://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-shut-down-restart-apple-vision-pro/ Digital Twin on Apple Vision Prohttps://www.reddit.com/r/augmentedreality/comments/1m7yl74/digital_twin_on_apple_vision_pro/How Apple Vision Pro Can Give Your Business an Unfair Advantagehttps://forasoft.medium.com/how-apple-vision-pro-can-give-your-business-an-unfair-advantage-f8d800018310 Top Streaming Apps Optimized for visionOS: Elevate Your Apple Vision Pro ExperienceTop Streaming Apps Optimized For VisionOS: Elevate Your Apple Vision Pro Experience - AppleMagazine Mushroom Garden an immersive edutainment experience for children on Apple Vision Pro!https://www.xrom.in/post/mushroom-garden-an-immersive-edutainment-experience-for-children-on-apple-vision-pro https://apps.apple.com/us/app/eduturf-mushroom-garden/id6747197371Digital Twin on Apple Vision Prohttps://www.reddit.com/r/augmentedreality/comments/1m7yl74/digital_twin_on_apple_vision_pro/ APPS SailGP RaceScape XRhttps://apps.apple.com/us/app/sailgp-racescape-xr/id6742781005 SailGP Launches First-Ever XR Experience in Sailing: RaceScape XR for Apple Vision Prohttps://www.sportsvideo.org/2025/07/28/sailgp-launches-first-ever-xr-experience-in-sailing-racescape-xr-for-apple-vision-pro/ MacStockMacstockconferenceandexpo.com  Digital Pass https://macstockconferenceandexpo.com/product/macstock-ix-digital-pass/Email: ThePodTalkNetwork@gmail.com Website: ThePodTalk.Net
