Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to react to a busy week of Pittsburgh sports news. Are GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin signaling an intention to punt on the 2025 season after trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys? And allowing names like Najee Harris, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to leave via NFL free agency in exchange for compensatory picks for the 2026 NFL draft? Or are they still serious about winning if they're keeping T.J. Watt in Pittsburgh and pursuing QB Aaron Rodgers on the open market? And how smart would it be to position for 2026 and its loaded QB class that includes names like Arch Manning, Drew Allar, Nico Iamaleava and LaNorris Sellers? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks Penguins and Penn State football. Should GM Kyle Dubas regret the team's winning ways to end the season? Which resulted in the 11th overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft? Who are the candidates Jason is mostly looking toward to replace Mike Sullivan as coach? And did Nittany Lions coach James Franklin accomplish what he needed to in the transfer portal this offseason? Adding names like Syracuse WR Trebor Pena and North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell to a team that hopes to compete for a College Football Playoff national title?
After adding North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell this week, Max Ralph and Johnny McGonigal dig into Penn State's defensive depth chart projection for 2025. Plus, are the Nittany Lions the nation's top team? The guys give their take near the end of the episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

While there's not a ton happening with Ohio State football right now, there's a lot to look forward to over the next eight months.Right now, the most anticipated event of the summer for Buckeye fans might be Michigan's Committee on Infractions hearing that's set to take place in one month as the Wolverines could finally face punishment from the NCAA this summer for their impermissible scouting scheme orchestrated by former staffer Connor Stalions. The height of recruiting season will also come soon as Ohio State prepares to host official visitors and camps in June, while we're personally excited to make our way to Las Vegas in July for Big Ten Media Days, the unofficial kickoff to football season.Ohio State's season opener could be its most highly anticipated season opener ever as the Buckeyes host Texas in a Cotton Bowl rematch that could be a 1 vs. 2 game. Ohio State's Nov. 1 home game against Penn State will be one of its most-anticipated games against the Nittany Lions ever as the Buckeyes look to spoil Jim Knowles' return to Columbus. And of course, everyone in Columbus has Ohio State's Nov. 29 trip to Ann Arbor circled on the calendar with hopes that Ryan Day's Buckeyes will finally end their drought against Michigan.Add in road trips to Washington, Illinois and Wisconsin and Nico Iamaleava's return to Columbus with UCLA, and the Buckeyes' regular-season schedule is loaded with games we can't wait for. As fun as the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff was, we're also excited for year two of the expanded playoff race.Of course, we'll be excited to watch Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs play every game as the Buckeyes' superstars have the potential to be even better than they were last year. And there's no shortage of players with the talent to emerge as stars around them, such as Max Klare, James Peoples and Jermaine Mathews Jr., just to name a few. With Ohio State in the quietest part of its offseason and us preparing to take an early summer break on Real Pod Wednesdays, we highlight all the biggest things for Buckeye fans to look forward to this season. The full rundown:0:00 Why There Won't Be Real Pod Wednesdays for the Next Few Weeks4:52 Anticipation Builds for Potential Michigan Punishment12:53 Big Summer Ahead for Ohio State Recruiting18:45 Big Ten Media Days in Vegas Will Be Fun21:46 Season Openers Don't Get Any Bigger Than Ohio State vs. Texas26:28 Jim Knowles' Return Makes Ohio State vs. Penn State Extra Spicy32:00 Beating Michigan Still the Big Hurdle Ryan Day Must Clear38:07 Illibuck Game in Champaign, Trip to Camp Randall Among Other Exciting Matchups43:35 Why Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs Should Be Even Better in 202548:11 Buckeyes Will Have Potential Breakout Stars All Over the Field

He finally got picked Saturday by Cleveland in the fifth round, but the weirdest story in the draft took a bizarre turn Sunday when one of the people who prank-called Sanders on Friday night was revealed to be the son of the Falcons' defensive coordinator. The draft story that will become a more interesting college football story in December and January is what happened to Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. He was taken in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins, meaning he probably would have made far more in NIL money by transferring and playing another season of college football.Trebor Pena has decided he will be going to Penn State from Syracuse. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the addition of former Penn State linebacker Te'Mere Robinson from the NCAA Transfer Portal. The 6-foot-3, 223-pound Robinson gives the Trojans' linebacker room some much needed depth. Robinson didn't play much on defense in his two years with the Nittany Lions (107 total defensive snaps), but he was having a solid spring camp in Happy Valley prior to entering the portal. USC also lost another player to the portal, redshirt freshman Jarvis Boatwright out of Clearwater, Florida did not see any action in 2024 and will now try his luck at another program for 2025. The guys also discuss all of the news and notes from spring practice including what Lincoln Riley had to say about the starting quarterback situation, the depth at defensive line and wide receiver and Trojan legend Troy Polamalu showing up at practice this week. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqKCheck out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilDIt's an incredibly busy end to Penn State Spring football calendar. Not only does the 2025 NFL Draft kick off tonight in Green Bay, but the team concluded its final open media session on Wednesday night. With the Blue-White Game this weekend, the team's visibility on the college football and national radar is high. We're covering all of that today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show. Join the show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube to discuss the team's progress as they exit camp, the Draft, and of course, recruiting. The team hosted players yesterday and will host more over the next few days, culminating in the Blue-White Game on Saturday. We'll cover the names you need to know who are visiting the program this weekend. NCAA Lawsuit conclusion held up by roster limits We'll start with possibly the most impactful news on the program's upcoming season, which has nothing to do with the team. The House v. NCAA case settlement has hit a major roadblock with judge Claudia Wilken refusing to accept a hard cutoff of walk-on players this year and instead grandfathering players into a gradual limitation of the roster limits over the next several seasons. We'll discuss what that means for the Penn State roster and the players fighting for a spot on the team this spring and summer. Next, we'll discuss the team's NFL Draft prospects who will go in the first round of the Draft tonight. We'll take a recruiting angle on the conversation, discussing the value of having two first-round picks: Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren. Penn State practice recapOf course, the team held open practice last night, so we'll recap what we saw and heard on Wednesday night. What did Penn State head coach James Franklin say about the format for the game? We'll review that, show you highlights from practice, and more! Penn State recruiting visits and conversationsThe team will hold four practices this week, including the Blue-White Game on Saturday. How has the team done at getting prospects on campus? It's the final push before the May evaluation period leading into official visits at the end of the month. Can the team push a few more commitments across the line this weekend? Recruiting reporters Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder will discuss the upcoming names for the Blue-White Game, plus detail conversations they've had over the last week with recruits, parents, and coaches. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3Penn State Practice Recap and Blue-White Recruiting Preview

Joey Aguilar left UCLA on Monday and committed to Tennessee by Monday evening. He'll compete to replace Iamaleava, who left Tennessee for UCLA and took the job Aguilar had hoped to have. Meanwhile, Nico Iamaleava's younger brother Madden left Arkansas and will transfer to UCLA, the school he flipped away from on National Signing Day. Elsewhere in the transfer portal, former Syracuse receiver Trebor Pena is considering Penn State. This would be a huge pickup for the Nittany Lions, but they'll have to fight off Miami to get him. Host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette/Daily Collegian insider Joel Haas to preview the NFL draft from a Penn State perspective. Is Abdul Carter the best player available in this draft class? Or do names like Cam Ward and Travis Hunter deserve the title? Is Carter's best fit alongside Myles Garrett with the Cleveland Browns? Or as a face-of-the-franchise type for the New York Giants or Jacksonville Jaguars? How much should teams value TE Tyler Warren's diverse skill set? And how far could he slide down the order on Day 1 of the draft? Later, the guys offer thoughts on names expected to go in later rounds. Can Kevin Winston Jr. slide into the late Day 2 range? How much has Kobe King helped his draft stock since a rough performance against Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff? And will Jaylen Reed's playmaking ability help him get selected? Our duo tackles those topics, then pivots to spring football and NCAA transfer portal news for the Nittany Lions. Have Devonte Ross and Kyron Hudson proven they can help the receivers room in 2025? Will coach James Franklin add Syracuse WR Trebor Pena before the end of the spring transfer window? And are internal options like Tyseer Denmark, Kaden Saunders and Liam Clifford capable of stepping up to give QB Drew Allar more options in 2025?

The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 4-0 week that featured a midweek win over San Diego State and the Trojans' first Big Ten series sweep after they rallied late in back-to-back games to finish off Ohio State. That included being down to their final out Sunday before Brayden Dowd hit a game-tying home run, and USC won on a Dean Carpentier walk-off. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action, looking at the positives of the Trojans improving to 20-11 with a 9-6 mark in the Big Ten with their comeback ability and the clutch gene of Dowd. The podcasters also look at three negatives on each side, including the continued black hole that is USC's Sunday starting pitching role. USC two-way star Ethan Hedges then joins the show to talk about his transition to being on the mound this season after being exclusively a hitter his first two seasons with the Trojans. He discusses how he's been able to unlock his power potential, hitting 11 home runs already this season after having just four combined in his first two seasons. Hedges also chats about the 'one-more-run' mentality the Trojans have this season and how that's helped them come from behind in multiple games this season. After a break, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another conference series, including multiple players ranking amongst the Big Ten and national leaders. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action, beginning with a midweek matchup at their home away from home as the Trojans will be the road team against Loyola Marymount at Page Stadium where USC has been playing its midweek 'home' games. The Trojans then head to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions in a battle of two teams tied for fifth in the Big Ten standings.
