Did you know that FDR, one of America's most heralded presidents, censored his critics, put American minorities into glorified concentration camps, and laid the groundwork for today's surveillance state? In this eye-opening episode of The Brian Nichols Show, host Brian Nichols sits down with Professor David Beito to discuss the untold story of FDR's war on civil liberties. Studio Sponsor: Cardio Miracle - "Unlock the secret to a healthier heart, increased energy levels, and transform your cardiovascular fitness like never before.": https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart Professor Beito, a historian and author of the new book "The New Deal's War on the Bill of Rights," reveals the shocking extent of FDR's hands-on involvement in violating the constitutional rights of American citizens. From the internment of Japanese Americans to the censorship of press and radio, FDR's ruthless "anything to achieve the goal" attitude led to a jaded and cynical approach to civil liberties. The parallels between FDR's actions and current events are striking, as evidenced by the recent Twitter files exposing government attempts to discredit and censor dissenting voices. Professor Beito emphasizes the need for left and right to come together in defense of civil liberties, drawing inspiration from the coalitions formed by prominent figures like Norman Thomas and the Chicago Tribune's publisher during the 1930s. Throughout the conversation, Brian and Professor Beito delve into FDR's legacy, challenging the narrative that he "saved" America from the Great Depression and examining his troubling record on race relations. They also discuss the importance of learning from history to prevent the erosion of civil liberties in the face of current challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. Don't miss this thought-provoking episode that sheds light on a chapter of American history often overlooked in the classroom. Grab a copy of Professor Beito's book "The New Deal's War on the Bill of Rights" to learn more about FDR's concentration camps, censorship, and mass surveillance, and join the conversation on protecting civil liberties for all. ❤️ Order Cardio Miracle (https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart) with code TBNS at checkout for 15% off and take a step towards better heart health and overall well-being!

On the political front I'm afraid I have totally lost my way so you have the opportunity to voice your opinion so over to you........ We haven't heard much more about the rocket which is to take off for the moon....has it gone yet? Not forgetting the other thing the boffins have sent up which successfully changed the direction of an asteroid which is good so now we are safe should one actually threaten the earth as one did millions of years ago................what this lot costs doesn't bare thinking about....but I'm sure the poverty stricken and starving folk in the world are delighted with the "success" I would like to wish Mark Owen ...from the one man band Take That.....good luck with his latest come back.....I think. the lad is somewhat misguided with his long hair and earring etc......I'm sure he is a nice chap but there is a time to call it a day. Winter is here so we are inundated with quiz shows with the same old formats....what is annoying is the presenter always asks the same question to the contestant "what will you do with the money if you win?".....the contestant then explains how he is going to take his family on a luxury holiday etc then two minutes later he's out of the game with no money.....point being? HE'S BACK!! Graham Norton with his weekly selection of guests who are there purely to promote their latest ventures......I watched the first one last week.....the guests included David Tennant and Jamie Lee Curtis....who came on (possibly after a few wines) and tried to unsuccessfully take over the show as they all tried to talk over each other....with Graham guffawing along with it all...I decided out of interest to watch it to the end.....only to be subjected to Robbie Williams with his latest record.......time to switch off. Then we have the Sunday night Strictly Come Dancing results from Saturday.....and Robbie is only on again!!.........I know he is very popular and has sold many records but I can't stand him. I would like to remember an old friend of mine who worked on Radio City called Norman Thomas....I did several jingles for his programme...this one was for his daily competition whereby you had to guess what he had in his hand after being given various clues.....it was very popular and hilarious.....it was a short jingle but this one was the 12 inch version.....a great guy and sad loss.

Dave Siever, C.E.T., graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in 1978 in Telecommunications. In 1980, he accepted a position at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Dentistry, as a design technologist. He conducted research with Dr. Norman Thomas, an internationally recognized specialist in the area of temporo-mandibular dysfunction and myofacial pain. During his employment there, Dave developed equipment for the TMJ research laboratory and the Educational Psychology Department, including TENS stimulators, biofeedback devices, gnathodynamometers, signal processing equipment, and EMG spectral analysis equipment. From late 1985 to 1987, Dave provided TMJ consulting services to 5 dentists in the Edmonton area. Over the years, Dave has helped treat approximately 1,500 patients with TMJ and MPD. During this time, Dave realized that many TMJ problems were psychologically-related, prompting him to pursue his interest in biofeedback. This led to the inception of the original D.A.V.I.D. 1 in the spring of 1985, which was used in the Faculty of Arts to help acting students overcome stage fright. In the time since, Dave has continued developing several audio-visual entrainment (AVE), cranio-electro stimulation (CES), transcranial DC Stimulation (tDCS), and biofeedback devices, with each new development responding to technology changes and market demands. Dave still designs new products related to personal growth and well-being.Dave travels throughout North America and around the world lecturing to dentists, chiropractors, medical groups, biofeedback and neurofeedback professionals, teachers, and the general public at various conferences about the using these technologies as an alternative method to improved health, accelerated learning, and peace of mind.Dave has also developed and written a stimulation technologies/entrainment course for the Behavioral Medicine Research and Training Foundation and instructs it along with Dr. Cynthia Kerson. https://mindalive.com

Have you ever had one of those days where you felt like you wanted to get back in bed and start over? Some mornings I roll over while still in bed and check my social media feed before actually getting up to starting the day-this is not the best practice-I'll be the first to admit I'm not perfect. There are some mornings when I'm outraged by what I see online and that causes me to jump up and start the the day. The inconsistency is not good and the beautiful thing about us as humans is we can change. S/O to Yolanda Jones, Tangel Clinard, and Norman Thomas for leaving a voice message. Norman, hails from Hamden CT has been one of the best-kept secrets of our time. Growing up, Norman spent most of his time listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, and many other jazz greats. Since graduating from Berkeley College (NY), Norman has traveled extensively throughout the United States, and abroad spreading the Gospel through song. Credits At a young age, Norman was a featured artist for four years with The First Church of God National Convention, appearing with Anita Baker and the Winans as a background vocalist, and Opening performer. Norman has had the privilege of sharing the stage, opening up for, and singing background for amazing artists like Coko (of SWV), Pastor Shirley Caesar, Donald Lawrence, Ricky Dillard, John P Kee, Angie Stone, Kelly Price, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Faith Evans, Pastor Hezekiah Walker, Cece Winans, Yolanda Adams, Melonie Daniels, Lucinda Moore and Mary Mary. He was also featured on Bobby Jones New Artist Showcase. Norman is the recipient of the Connecticut Gospel Music Award 6 years consecutively for Best Male Vocalist, Connecticut HBV Music Award 5 years consecutively. Norman has a CD available on www.iTunes.com/NORMANTHOMAS “SCRIPTURES Chapters 1-7” All the songs featured on the album were written and arranged by Norman Thomas. Norman is currently preparing for his first Live Recording. Personal Norman is not only a gifted and talented Singer / Songwriter, he has a heart for other young and upcoming artists. He is currently working on touring his “Free Concert” series that will offer new artists the chance to be showcased live on the internet. In continuing my mission of bringing as many progressive candidates the attention I believe they deserve, on this episode of the podcast we have O.G activist, organizer, and the man who helped create the Green Party as we know it, Mr. Howie Hawkins.  We recently had Angela Walker, his VP pick on the show, and after talking with Mr. Hawkins for a bit I understood why those two work so good together.  Genuine revolutionary souls they are.   A little about Howie: From the start, he was committed to independent working-class politics for a democratic, socialist, and ecological society. He supported the Peace and Freedom Party in 1968, the People's Party in 1972 and 1976, and the Citizens Party in 1980. Since its first national meeting in 1984, Howie has been a Green Party organizer. As the Green Party's candidate for governor of New York in 2010, 2014, and 2018, each time he received enough votes to qualify the Green Party for a ballot line for the next four years. In 2014, he received 5 percent of the vote, the most for an independent progressive party candidates for governor in New York history except for Socialist candidates who received 5.7% in 1918 and 5.6% in 1920. As a Green Party candidate many times for local office in Syracuse, his vote grew from 3% for at-large councilor in 1993 to 48% for a district council seat in 2011. In 2015, he received 35% of the citywide vote for city auditor. Outside of electoral politics, Howie has been a constant organizer in peace, justice, union, and environmental campaigns. When his draft number was called in 1972, Howie enlisted in the Marine Corps while continuing to organize against the Vietnam War. He remains a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War as well as a member of the American Legion Dunbar Post 1642 in Syracuse. After studying at Dartmouth College, Howie worked in construction in New England in the 1970s and 1980s. He helped organize a worker cooperative that specialized in energy efficiency and solar and wind installations. When the Socialist Party of Eugene Debs, A. Philip Randolph, Helen Keller, and Norman Thomas re-established itself as an independent party in 1973, Howie joined and remains a member. He is also a member of Solidarity, which promotes “socialism from below” and international solidarity because the fight for freedom against all dictators and imperialisms is worldwide and indivisible. Howie was a co-founder of the anti-nuclear Clamshell Alliance in 1976. In the 1970s and 1980s, he was also a leader in the anti-apartheid divestment movement to end US corporate investment in the racist system of oppression and labor exploitation in South Africa. Howie moved to Syracuse in 1991 to develop cooperatives for CommonWorks, a federation of cooperatives that promoted cooperative ownership, democratic control, and ecological sustainability in the local economy. From 2001 to 2018, he worked as a Teamster unloading trucks at UPS. Now retired, he remains a supporter of Teamsters for a Democratic Union, US Labor Against the War, the Labor Campaign for Single Payer Healthcare, the Labor Network for Sustainability, and the Labor Notes network.  Howie's articles on politics, economics, and environmental issues have appeared in Against the Current, Black Agenda Report, CounterPunch, Green Politics, International Socialist Review, Labor Notes, New Politics, Peace and Democracy News, Roll Call, Society and Nature, Z Magazine, and other publications. He is the editor of, and a contributor to, Independent Politics: The Green Party Strategy Debate (Haymarket Books, 2006).   Donate to the Campaign Here   If you guys haven't done it yet, BECOME A PATRON! REPLAY MARCH 31, 2017Ted Koppel is being touted by the leftist faction as a hero for telling Sean Hannity he along with other conservative pundits are "bad for America" because those who listen to such mediums have been falsely led to believe ideology is more important than facts. Audrey Russo from "REELTalk Radio" and and Don Dix from "The Jen and Don Show" joined us in a lengthy discussion as to what exactly Koppel is referring to. We looked briefly at the evolution of the media from their descent from government watch dogs that offered editorial apart from news to today's brand of fabricated stories and opinion that supports the leftist narrative that propagandizes under the protection of the 1st Amendment. We answered Koppel's charges that had Conservative talk not made it to the airways and cyberspace we might have already fulfilled Norman Thomas' 1948 prediction America will become a socialist nation under liberalism without knowing how it happened. Next, The crash and burn of RyanCare is being marked as the first leg of the stool Trump's failing agenda to "make America great again" due to the GOP's "growing pains." We expounded on why this bill failed and why it was pursued by the GOP in the first place.

The song this week is very educational...it is entitled *Greenfly in my Trusses" and was an idea I came up with back in the day when my mate the late Norman Thomas of Radio City commented that he was on his allotment and was horrified to find greenfly in his trusses....this began a series of incoming comments from the public with hilarious results...so I decided to write a song dedicated to him featuring all the problems you can have in a garden....the song is wonderfully performed by Peregrine Wilt (aka Paul Damian) and tells the story of love lost on a corporation allotment...the words might seem a bit odd but the details are accurate down to the last detail...listen to this and you could become a professional gardner. 2.Are we sick and tired of hearing about Trump and Teresa May or what?!!!...the guy gets hold of her hand to prevent her slipping BECAUSE THERE WAS A SLOPE that's it.....but oh no the media pile in making an issue out of nothing...and we've got demonstrations in the streets because Donald has been invited to meet the Queen...and none of the demonstrators have a clue why they are waving stupid banners around....they even have toddlers waving banners....there is NO hope......do they think her Maj gives a toss one way or the other?....or maybe they all think they might all get an O.B.E.?....who do they think they are - Ant and Dec?....as always the media just make matters worse. 3.The "scientists" have been at it again..."research" has uncovered the fact that primary school children learn more if...wait for it...they wear slippers....so along with their lunch they now bring in their fluffy footwear....it's only in one school at the moment as far as I can gather....so there you are...I wonder what happened to discipline?.... And Kodak must have shedloads of film left over since everyone bought digital cameras....they even made a classic statement to the effect that rolls of film are making a comeback....people are going out and buying FILM of their cameras...because FILM is better quality and "warmer" than digital.....what a load of tripe....as if we are going to buy rolls of film and PAY for it to be developed....nice try Kodak good luck with that one.....mind you the stupid demonstrators will probably fall for it. 4.We have obviously given up with Eurovision....this year the public have been subjected to a selection of songs sung by X Factor also rans.....and it's the viewers vote that counts friends....there was only one song which was almost bearable and needless to say that wasn't the one we voted for....oh dear....if the contest is judged on who can shout the loudest we are in with a chance....the girl is doubled over at one stage bellowing out the song.....I don't know why we bother....obviously someone is making money...probably Simon Cowell.....it's a big Nil Pwa from me. 5."Mothers" are OUT!!....they must now be called "Parents".....as in "expectant PARENT"....this is so the 1% of transgender parents are not offended....there is absolutely nothing I can add to this. It reminds me of the time when I was working for Merseyside County Council and the Trading Standards burst into a chip shop and told the owner he couldn't call his hamburgers hamburgers....as they did not contain ham....they were in fact "savoury rings"....so the guy put a huge notice in his window "OUR HAMBURGERS ARE NOW SAVOURY RINGS"....that's why Liverpool is such a great place.

The song I have sent you this week is one that failed to make the classical music charts which it should have done. It came about after Radio City’s Norman Thomas told his listeners how he went out to buy a dibber…which is a garden tool used for manually boring holes in the ground to plant seeds in….so Norm buys what he thinks is a dibber only to get home and find he’s bought a handle off a shovel….he took a lot of stick over this so I came up with The Dibber Song and sent it to him….he played it every day for about a fortnight. On one occasion he was interviewing Cilla about her forthcoming panto and played this song to her and got her to join in on the chorus….but sadly never put it on any of her albums…….I wonder why. We have a new golden girl….the wonderful Jessica Ennis is world champion again….she is a great role model for sport which,as we discussed recently,is about WINNING. Let’s hope a good proportion of our youth switch off their computers and iPhones and get out there…..then perhaps they’ll stop moaning about being bullied on line….and hats off to Usain Bolt who did it again …just as well because if the other guy had won we would never have heard the end of it….all good stuff….better not mention the final test match. 3.The BBC are “sacking” the Met office who have been supplying them with weather predictions for years….it’s about time too…the forecasts can be very iffy….I use the weather channel on the phone and it is very accurate…so why don’t the Beeb use this instead…….the local forecast has been atrocious and Diane Oxberry comes on next day and makes a joke of it….”oooh we got it wrong yesterday hee hee” which is all very well but a lot of people depend on the forecast and base their day on it…..so with a bit of luck we might start getting decent forecasts from the Beeb for a change. 4.There has been huge news coverage of the plane crash at the display in West Sussex….again a terrible tragedy…these things seem to be happening a bit too much lately. The fact that passers by lose their lives makes it worse. How unlucky can you be to be hit by a plane whilst travelling on the main road…..I think this needs to be thought about a lot more…..the Red Arrows give a display every year in a local place called Hoylake…but they do it over the sea for this reason…maybe this practice should be adopted by everyone….the “experts” have been saying that there has been no public fatalities since 1952…which they seem to think makes it all O.K…..ONE loss of life is one too many…nothing is worth that…..anyway it looks like things will change. 5.I’ve lost a lot of sleep lately since hearing the news that One Direction are splitting up….Oh My!!...there has been a lot of tears…mainly from their management and record company…oh yes and from the teeny boppers. I’ve never felt this bad since The Dooleys split up !!!....Harry Stiles?...that’s the only name I know…and they have sold 50 million records….it’s a sad time for us all…I’m sure the immigrants who are running for their lives will be very upset about it. They all sound the same to me…but then again I am 60 years outside the age range. I don’t know why they call these guys BANDS…they are a vocal group…a BAND plays instruments…like McFly….who are good….and have a bit of talent.

The song I have sent you this week was one I came up with for Radio City’s Norman Thomas back in the day….the one note song. It came about when someone told me they couldn’t sing a note…so I disagreed and that sparked off this song…as EVERYONE can sing one note…anywhere…you could go into a pub in China and everyone could sing one note…there are no language barriers or key problems….as the song explains. Maybe I was a bit ahead of my time….it did however make the local papers. 2.This has reminded me of the guy at every wedding (usually Uncle Harry) who always wants to get up and give ‘em a song at the end of the night with the full support of his family…the song is generally “Spanish Eyes” which he warbles through singing the same note….and invariably goes down better than the band….who are frowned at by the bloke paying them wondering why they are getting paid and uncle Harry sang for nothing….the fact that the band have just done 3 hours and built the crowd up to the drunken crescendo they are in and Uncle Harry has sung the same note for 2 minutes….is somehow overlooked….it’s a dream come true Simon. 3..I’m sure the victims of financial cuts are delighted to hear that Prince Andrew has just bought Fergie a 5 million pound chateau in Switzerland…..or should I say WE have bought it?...nice to know he is so generous…and there has been a disaster at Sandringham Palace!!…..the poor pigeons are devastated because their loft is rotting away….but you’ll be pleased to know the Queen has come to the rescue and had them a new one built for 40 grand…. Her pigeons are reported to be delighted….and unseen photographs taken by lord Lichfield of Charles and Diana’s wedding are about to go on sale in New York….and expected to fetch millions….hip hip hurrah!!!.....I’m so pleased for them all. 4.When I listen to the various dialects in this country I begin to despair….what happened to the English language….”T” seems to have vanished as youngsters now go to a par-y on sa-aday…or “I like i-“…and we have those dreadful Eastenders so called actors who replace “T” with “F”…I FINK I’ll do this and FINK I’ll do that and has anyone seen Kaffy…then we have Coronation Street with “we’re goin’ t’ shops”….it’s awful and it’s not difficult to pronounce words correctly….as we do on Merseyside….or maybe I’m a bit biased? 5.And on the subject of television….we have definitely hit an all time low….maybe it’s me…I don’t know….but is ANYONE interested in embarrassing bodies?...people being brought into A & E?...third class actors being “killed off” in soaps?...and now we have a plethora of “happy family” shows where ordinary members of families can win holidays….with one of them trying to be funny…why should I care if someone I don’t know wins a holiday?...I though we had seen the last of these dreadful cheap to make shows with the retirement of Bruce Forsyth....it’s bad enough when celebs are involved but at least the money goes to charity. If someone comes up with an alternative to television (and they probably will) they will clean up….sooner the better.

Katie Price has been taking some stick in the news regarding her receiving benefits from the Government to pay for taxis to take her disabled son to school...despite her being worth 45 million. In my opinion she's earned her money and pays her taxes.......I admire anyone who makes their fortune...and it's always the scroungers who seem to complain . It was really funny stuff and Norman did a great job…he sadly died a few years ago….I did quite a bit of stuff for him…he was a great bloke I watched the Michael Buble Christmas show just before Xmas and was well impressed…I thought it was real quality…unlike the John Bishop comedy show…whatever happened to FUNNY…he wasn’t even slightly funny and the string of comedians he had on weren’t much better….these guys are in serious need of good comedy writers…they seem to think they can do it on their own…they are wrong.
