Marital discord has always made for good cinema. From Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan's iconic love story Abhimaan (1973) to the Jude Law and Carrie Coon-starrerThe Nest (2020), there have been many films that have closely depicted fragmented relationships and the pain and suffering that some couples go through when a marriage begins to go south. Chandan Arora's 2005 film Main, Meri Patni aur Woh starring Rajpal Yadav, Rituparna Sengupta and Kay Kay Menon is one such gem. The film explores the trying journey of a short man (played by Yadav) who marries an attractive woman (played by Sengupta), who happens to be significantly taller and better looking than him. This surprisingly-nuanced story captures how the lead character, who's riddled with inevitable insecurity, deals with the world around him. The story also follows how their relationship eventually crumbles simply based on how others perceive the unlikely pair. Mohit Chauhan fans are in for a treat as the singer-songwriter has lent his vocals to the soul-stirring acoustic number Guncha in this film. You can stream Main, Meri Patni aur Woh on Netflix right away.Alright, that's the OTTplay Lost and found film for today, I shall be back with you soon with another gem of a film or show that you probably haven't watched but should. दूसरे दिन प्रातःकाल कांग्रेस की तरफ से एक आम जलसा हुआ। मिस्टर सेठ ने विलायती टूथ पाउडर विलायती ब्रुश से दाँतों पर मला, विलायती साबुन से नहाया, विलायती चाय विलायती प्यालियों में पी, विलायती बिस्कुट विलायती मक्खन के साथ खाया, विलायती दूध पिया। फिर विलायती सूट धारण करके विलायती सिगार मुँह में दबा कर घर से निकले, और अपनी मोटर साइकिल पर बैठ फ्लावर शो देखने चले गये। गोदावरी को रात भर नींद नहीं आयी थी। दुराशा और पराजय की कठिन यंत्रणा किसी कोड़े की तरह उसके हृदय पर पड़ रही थी। ऐसा मालूम होता था कि उसके कंठ में कोई कड़वी चीज़ अटक गयी है। मिस्टर सेठ को अपने प्रभाव में लाने की उसने वह सब योजनाएँ कीं, जो एक रमणी कर सकती है; पर उस भले आदमी पर उसके सारे हाव-भाव, मृदु-मुस्कान और वाणी-विलास का कोई असर न हुआ। खुद तो स्वदेशी वस्त्रों के व्यवहार करने पर क्या राजी होते, गोदावरी के लिए एक खद्दर की साड़ी लाने पर भी सहमत न हुए। यहाँ तक कि गोदावरी ने उनसे कभी कोई चीज़ माँगने की कसम खा ली। क्रोध और ग्लानि ने उसकी सद्भावना को इस तरह विकृत कर दिया जैसे कोई मैली वस्तु निर्मल जल को दूषित कर देती है। उसने सोचा, जब यह मेरी इतनी-सी बात नहीं मान सकते, तब फिर मैं क्यों इनके इशारों पर चलूँ, क्यों इनकी इच्छाओं की लौंडी बनी रहूँ? मैंने इनके हाथ कुछ अपनी आत्मा नहीं बेची है। अगर आज ये चोरी या गबन करें, तो क्या मैं सज़ा पाऊँगी? उसकी सज़ा ये खुद झेलेंगे। उसका अपराध इनके ऊपर होगा। इन्हें अपने कर्म और वचन का अख्तियार है, मुझे अपने कर्म और वचन का अख्तियार। यह अपनी सरकार की ग़ुलामी करें, अँगरेजों की चौखट पर नाक रगड़ें, मुझे क्या गरज है कि उसमें उनका सहयोग करूँ। जिसमें आत्माभिमान नहीं, जिसने अपने को स्वार्थ के हाथों बेच दिया, उसके प्रति अगर मेरे मन में भक्ति न हो तो मेरा दोष नहीं। यह नौकर हैं या ग़ुलाम? नौकरी और ग़ुलामी में अन्तर है। नौकर कुछ नियमों के अधीन अपना निर्दिष्ट काम करता है। वह नियम स्वामी और सेवक दोनों ही पर लागू होते हैं। स्वामी अगर अपमान करे, अपशब्द कहे तो नौकर उसको सहन करने के लिए मजबूर नहीं। ग़ुलाम के लिए कोई शर्त नहीं, उसकी दैहिक ग़ुलामी पीछे होती है, मानसिक ग़ुलामी पहले ही हो जाती है। सरकार ने इनसे कब कहा है कि देशी चीज़ें न ख़रीदो। सरकारी टिकटों तक पर यह शब्द लिखे होते हैं, ‘स्वदेशी चीज़ें ख़रीदो।’ इससे विदित है कि सरकार देशी चीजों का निषेध नहीं करती, फिर भी यह महाशय सुर्खरू बनने की फ़िक्र में सरकार से भी दो अंगुल आगे बढ़ना चाहते हैं!

छठी कहानी -पत्नी किसकी धर्मपुर नाम की एक नगरी थी। उसमें धर्मशील नाम का राजा राज करता था। उसके अन्धक नाम का दीवान था। एक दिन दीवान ने कहा, “महाराज, एक मन्दिर बनवाकर देवी को बिठाकर पूजा की जाए तो बड़ा पुण्य मिलेगा।” राजा ने ऐसा ही किया। एक दिन देवी ने प्रसन्न होकर उससे वर माँगने को कहा। राजा के कोई सन्तान नहीं थी। उसने देवी से पुत्र माँगा। देवी बोली, “अच्छी बात है, तुझे बड़ा प्रतापी पुत्र प्राप्त होगा।” कुछ दिन बाद राजा को एक लड़का हुआ। सारे नगर में बड़ी खुशी मनायी गयी। एक दिन एक धोबी अपने मित्र के साथ उस नगर में आया। उसकी निगाह देवी के मन्दिर में पड़ी। उसने देवी को प्रणाम करने का इरादा किया। उसी समय उसे एक धोबी की लड़की दिखाई दी, जो बड़ी सुन्दर थी। उसे देखकर वह इतना पागल हो गया कि उसने मन्दिर में जाकर देवी से प्रार्थना की, “हे देवी! यह लड़की मुझे मिल जाये। अगर मिल गयी तो मैं अपना सिर तुझपर चढ़ा दूँगा।” इसके बाद वह हर घड़ी बेचैन रहने लगा। उसके मित्र ने उसके पिता से सारा हाल कहा। अपने बेटे की यह हालत देखकर वह लड़की के पिता के पास गया और उसके अनुरोध करने पर दोनों का विवाह हो गया। विवाह के कुछ दिन बाद लड़की के पिता के यहाँ उत्सव हुआ। इसमें शामिल होने के लिए न्यौता आया। मित्र को साथ लेकर धोबी और उसकी पत्नी चले। रास्ते में उसी देवी का मन्दिर पड़ा तो धोबी को अपना वादा याद आ गया। उसने मित्र और स्त्री को थोड़ी देर रुकने को कहा और स्वयं जाकर देवी को प्रणाम कर के इतने ज़ोर-से तलवार मारी कि उसका सिर धड़ से अलग हो गया। देर हो जाने पर जब उसका मित्र मन्दिर के अन्दर गया तो देखता क्या है कि उसके मित्र का सिर धड़ से अलग पड़ा है। उसने सोचा कि यह दुनिया बड़ी बुरी है। कोई यह तो समझेगा नहीं कि इसने अपने-आप शीश चढ़ाया है। सब यही कहेंगे कि इसकी सुन्दर स्त्री को हड़पने के लिए मैंने इसकी गर्दन काट दी। इससे कहीं मर जाना अच्छा है। यह सोच उसने तलवार लेकर अपनी गर्दन उड़ा दी। उधर बाहर खड़ी-खड़ी स्त्री हैरान हो गयी तो वह मन्दिर के भीतर गयी। देखकर चकित रह गयी। सोचने लगी कि दुनिया कहेगी, यह बुरी औरत होगी, इसलिए दोनों को मार आयी इस बदनामी से मर जाना अच्छा है। यह सोच उसने तलवार उठाई और जैसे ही गर्दन पर मारनी चाही कि देवी ने प्रकट होकर उसका हाथ पकड़ लिया और कहा, “मैं तुझपर प्रसन्न हूँ। जो चाहो, सो माँगो।” स्त्री बोली, “हे देवी! इन दोनों को जिला दो।” देवी ने कहा, “अच्छा, तुम दोनों के सिर मिलाकर रख दो।” घबराहट में स्त्री ने सिर जोड़े तो गलती से एक का सिर दूसरे के धड़ पर लग गया। देवी ने दोनों को जिला दिया। अब वे दोनों आपस में झगड़ने लगे। एक कहता था कि यह स्त्री मेरी है, दूसरा कहता मेरी। इतनी कहानी सुनाने के बाद बेताल रूक गया। कुछ देर बाद बेताल बोला, “हे राजन्! बताओ कि यह स्त्री किसकी हो?” राजा ने कहा, “नदियों में गंगा उत्तम है, पर्वतों में सुमेरु, वृक्षों में कल्पवृक्ष और अंगों में सिर। इसलिए जिस शरीर पर पति का सिर लगा हो, वही पति होना चाहिए।” इतना सुनकर बेताल फिर पेड़ पर जा लटका। राजा उसे फिर लाया तो उसने अगली कहानी कही।
