This week, our guest is Navin Pasricha, a longtime internal audit leader and author of Getting Ready to Roar: Chief Auditor's Guide from Audit Room to Board Room. Navin joins the show to discuss the profession's current inflection point and the opportunity internal auditors have to move from simply reporting to the board to becoming trusted voices in the boardroom. He explains why audit committees are under more pressure than ever, why resilience and future-focused risk matter so much right now, and how internal audit is uniquely positioned to help. We also talk about one of the biggest questions in the profession today: how auditors can deliver real insight. Navin shares why insight starts with recognizing patterns, understanding how an audit fits within the broader organizational ecosystem, and connecting audit work back to strategy, industry pressures, and the future direction of the business. Finally, Navin discusses key themes from his book, including how internal auditors can build trust, navigate independence while take on a more advisory role, strengthen relationships with audit committees, and develop the strategic understanding needed to lead at a higher level. What if the questions you ask say more about you than the answers you give? Two weeks before graduating from college, Buffy Alegria walked into a bank job interview knowing basically nothing about banking. But she did walk in with four pages of questions on a yellow legal pad. They hired her before she finished the first page. That moment set the tone for everything that came after.Today, Buffy is the co-founder of Loud Ventures, a healthcare-focused venture capital firm built on a simple (and kind of radical) belief:The traditional VC model was designed for tech, and Healthcare doesn't play by those rules. After years in commercial banking, negotiating remote work way before it was normal, raising a women's health fund entirely virtually during COVID, serving on a rural health board for more than a decade, and learning firsthand (as a patient) what happens when systems break down… Buffy and her co-founder Navin decided to build something different…Venture capital for healthcare, by healthcare. In this episode, you'll hear:The interview move that changed her trajectory (and why four pages of questions is a power play)How she negotiated remote work postpartum before remote work was a thingWhat it was really like raising a women's health fund as a first-time manager… on Zoom… during COVIDWhy “underserved” isn't a buzzword at Loud Ventures (women's health + rural health as a serious lens, not a niche)What it actually means to be loud and active beyond the checkA real-world example of innovation meeting reality: pediatric anesthesia in dental offices, reimbursement pathways, and why “great idea” isn't enoughBuffy's diligence philosophy: why qualitative signals like curiosity and adaptability can matter more than early numbersIf you're building in healthcare (or allocating to it), this one will make you think differently about what “good” looks like.More about Buffy Alegria:Buffy Alegria doesn't just invest in healthcare: she's lived it. From the NICU to the boardroom, her path through banking, women's health venture, and hospital governance taught her that real progress takes more than a check. As Managing Partner of LOUD Ventures, she's proving that healthcare venture can be done differently by building alongside founders with capital, clinical depth, and operational grit. When she's not building the future of healthcare, she's skiing, hiking, or water skiing in the Pacific Northwest with her two dogs. Oh, and wearing her newest hat: dedicated college campus road-tripper cheering on her athlete daughters. ---Running a fund is hard enough.Ops shouldn't be.Meet the team that makes it easier. | billiondollarbackstory.com/ultimus- - -Thinking about expanding your investor base beyond the US?
Talk is cheap – literally. But if words cost nothing, why do we ever trust them? In this episode, Yale Professor Navin Kartik breaks down the game theory of communication. We kick things off with the basics: what is the academic definition of "cheap talk", and why does cheap talk sometimes work but other times break down? From there, we transition to Navin's own research, which explores deeper facets of communication. We learn about lying costs and "inflated language": why does a reference letter need to say "excellent" to just mean "competent"? Finally, we dive into topics like pandering (why experts lie to agree with you) and muddled information (why test scores tell you more about gaming skills than natural ability).
This is the official live show upload from DJ Navin, broadcast live on GT592FM Radio on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Lock in for a high-energy mix featuring:
In this episode of Smart Franchising, Dan Rowe sits down with Navin Nagrani and Al Bhakta of CMG Companies to reveal how eight partners built one of the largest independent multi-unit, multi-brand franchisee operations in America—with over 600 locations across KFC, Taco Bell, Sonic, Little Caesars, Ace Hardware, Valvoline, Tide Laundromat, and more. Starting with a single Genghis Grill that had zero customers on opening night, they've mastered the art of acquiring underperforming assets and turning them profitable through relentless execution, smart incentives, and empowering existing talent.Al and Navin discuss why 80% of turnaround success comes from motivating the people already in place, their "Lindy Effect" strategy of betting on established brands with moats, why they'd rather be top franchisees than franchisors, and the critical importance of unit economics over growth for growth's sake. This conversation is packed with tactical advice on acquisitions, talent development, equity partnerships, and building generational wealth through franchising—perfect for aspiring and established franchisees alike.

Dr. Laura welcomes Navin ‘nuvs' Jain, Product Evangelist at Workhuman, to the show to talk about gratitude and recognition. Workhuman focuses on workplace cultures that foster recognition, and Nuvs is deeply committed to spreading the word on the power of thanks and elevating great work happening in organizations. He and Dr. Laura discuss why gratitude can disappear from workplaces and how it can be brought back. There is a tendency at work to think “well that's just their job” when work is done well, but Nuvs outlines the power of saying thanks and how research supports that appreciation for work done elevates employee mental health and productivity. Dr. Laura and Nuvs address how the workplace culture is affected by what's role modeled and that leaders are the ones who need to make the change. A lack of empathy and a rise of toxic bosses has waylaid appreciation, but the impact of offering thanks can't be ignored. This episode explores human connection, gratitude, and how recognition increases workplace wellness. “I've talked about emotion before, and empathy. And that's really what I think is a key difference when someone says thank you. First of all, they're expressing gratitude. They're recognizing something you've done. And that actually makes you feel like, oh, I matter. I'm actually doing something here for the organization. And that drives that sense of belonging.” - Navin ‘nuvs' JainAbout Navin ‘nuvs' Jain:Based in Boston, MA, Navin ‘nuvs' Jain is a Product Evangelist at Workhuman, and previously spent five years developing the core recognition features of the Workhuman Cloud. Thia was puzzled. Why was his eighteen-year-old son spending so much time in the library these days? His son, who was autistic and rarely spoke to anyone, would usually return straight home after class. What changed? When pressed, his son finally replied: “Studying with Navin.” Navin, it turned out, was a classmate who noticed that Thia’s son was struggling in class and invited him to study together. This budding friendship—the first in eighteen years—greatly encouraged the disheartened father who’d given up hope of his son ever having a friend. Hope was renewed because one person cared enough to come alongside another who needed help. In Paul’s ministry to the early church, he knew this also applied to our hope of salvation. For believers in Jesus to “be awake and sober” (1 Thessalonians 5:6), living in the hope of His return, they had to help one another (v. 11), especially those who were struggling. That’s why, even though the Thessalonian believers loved one another (4:10) and led lives that pleased God (v. 1), Paul reminded them to “encourage the disheartened, help the weak” (5:14). When we notice believers in Christ who are fearful, anxious, or despondent, and we come alongside them—whether to listen, offer a kind word, or sit quietly together—God can use us to give them the strength and courage to hold on to their hope in Jesus.
In this webinar, the CardioNerds collaborated with the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group (CSWG) to discuss LV unloading and the updated AMI guidelines, which upgraded transvalvular flow pumps to a Class 2A recommendation in AMI shock. Dr. Rachel Goodman and Dr. Gurleen Kaur from CardioNerds were joined by Dr. Navin Kapur (Tufts Medical Center), Dr. Shashank Sinha (INOVA Fairfax Hospital), and Dr. Rachna Kataria (Brown University) from the CSWG. Together, they explore a case of an older woman who presented with inferior STEMI and was found to have complete occlusion of an anomalous single coronary artery originating from the right coronary cusp and supplying the entire left ventricle. She was treated with DES to the anomalous RCA. Her course was complicated by AMI shock with re-occlusion of the DES, which was treated with thrombectomy and balloon angioplasty. An IABP was placed. After transfer to a tertiary care center, a pulmonary artery catheter revealed a CI of 0.96. With worsening shock, rising lactate, and end organ dysfunction, the team proceeded with VA-ECMO and Impella CP for LV unloading. Her lactate subsequently normalized.
