Petesy opens the show by teeing up the biggest stories of the week, then dives into an exclusive sit-down interview with rising Irish star Paul Hughes (06:17). Hughes kicks things off by sharing how it feels to headline his homecoming fight at the SSE Arena in Belfast. He and Petesy take a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about Paul's roots in the local amateur scene. The Irishman gets real about his hopes for a rematch with Usman Nurmagomedov, and lays out how he thinks that fight would play out (16:36). Next, Hughes gives his take on the rising talents of Europe. He breaks down the upcoming bout between fellow Irishman Ian Garry and Carlos Prates (32:02), reacts to Paddy Pimblett's shocking win over Michael Chandler (36:16), and talks sparring sessions with Ilia Topuria (37:36). To wrap things up, Hughes gets candid about the fallout from Conor McGregor's comments on his moment of respect with Khabib Nurmagomedov (43:03). He highlights how much his Northern Irish roots mean to him and how he stays focused on the positives, despite the noise. On the back end of the show, Petesy is joined by Andy Stevenson of Severe MMA (50:18). The two break down the importance of Paul Hughes's rise, Ian Garry's short-notice fight against Carlos Prates, and much more.

Petesy Carroll is joined by Uncrowned's Ben Fowlkes to discuss Beniel Dariush potentially leaking Dustin Poirier meeting his old rival Max Holloway in his retirement fight (8:39). Just after getting the show underway, the news hits of three weigh misses for this weekend's Apex card (14:40), before the conversation returns to Poirier (19:59). The lads ponder when Ilia Topuria will make his 155-pound debut with Charles Oliveira's camp claiming that the Brazilian has a fight booked for International Fight Week (29:15). In the wake of UFC 313, Petesy and Ben weigh-in on the changing narrative around Alex Pereira with the likes of Daniel Cormier claiming the defeat to Magomed Anakalev underlined how the knockout artist is simply too small for the maximum weight-class (39:56). With the announcement of Paul Hughes' homecoming bout against Bruno Miranda taking place in Belfast in May, Petesy asks Ben if he thinks PFL fumbled the bag by not immediately booking the Irishman's rematch with Usman Nurmagomedov (50:58). Finally, the return of Jeremy Stephens is brought into focus and the lads wonder if his re-signing to the UFC is a bad thing for BKFC on the back of his highly publicised knockout of Eddie Alvarez in Philadelphia (59:58).

On today's episode, I react to what we saw this past weekend at UFC Saudi Arabia, including my issue with Michael ‘Venom' Page being the underdog in his win over Shara ‘Bullet' Magomedov, and why I don't envy the position that Israel Adesanya finds himself in after losing to Nassourdine Imavov. Plus, Dana White said he will explore other options if they can't make Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall happen, even though I don't believe Jones has officially been offered that fight yet. Then, why I should've begun investing in TKO earlier. And finally, did Khabib Nurmagomedov give Conor McGregor PTSD? And why is McGregor attacking fellow countryman Paul Hughes? Gambling problem? Usman Nurmagomedov Retains Bellator Lightweight World Title in Epic Main Event Bout Against Paul Hughes. DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (January 25, 2025) - Usman Nurmagomedov versus Paul Hughes delivered on all the hype and anticipation surrounding the World Title Fight since it was announced. The main event of PFL Road to Dubai Champions Series saw a 25-minute battle between the prides of Dagestan and Ireland, with Nurmagomedov remaining unbeaten after receiving the nod from two of the three judges sitting outside the SmartCage (47-47, 48-46, 48-46). After the majority decision win, Nurmagomedov had nothing but respect for his opponent. “This is for you guys, Paul Hughes, you are the man, brother you're tough, I underestimated this guy,” Usman Nurmagomedov said. “But I'm still undefeated, undisputed Bellator Lightweight Champion.” After his incredible performance, Hughes made it clear he would love a rematch in Belfast, “It played out how I expected, I'm so gutted and disappointed I lost. I thought I won the fight, I probably left some in the tank, I need to leave everything behind next time. I really thought I was going to win,” Paul Hughes said. “The PFL believed in me and I believe in the PFL. We have to do the rematch in Belfast, it has to be in Belfast, I think I've earned this.” PFL Road to Dubai Champions Series is the inaugural “Road to Dubai” event following the signing of a groundbreaking multi-year partnership between the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), Dubai Sports Council (DSC), and the Professional Fighters League (PFL).
The gang comes together to discuss the excellent fight between Paul Hughes and Usman Nurmagomedov. They talk about the PFL actually having momentum and what to do with it. The gang also discusses BKFC's Knucklemania show and how the organization is thriving. They also make their picks for this weekend's UFC card and give five more sports movies they recommend. All that and another edition of "Stuff We Like."
Luke and BC are back to recap all the news from this weekend and look ahead to some great events. Starting with PFL Dubai, Usman Nurmagomedov edges Paul Hughes in instant classic. Staying in MMA, the guys react to the very odd GFL draft. Looking ahead now, Luke and BC discuss the storylines for UFC Riyadh where Israel Adesanya takes on Nassourdine Imavov. On today's episode, Petesy is joined by fellow Irish media members Andy Stevenson and Donagh Corby.Corby, who is on the scene in Dubai, gave his account of the incident between Irish and Dagestani fans at the PFL's weigh-in for the fight between Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes (3:00).Stevenson underlined the impact a Hughes win could have on Irish MMA (18:00), before rebuking claims that this is a one-fight card (23:00) and lads gave their picks for the main event (32:00).The conversation moves to Arman Tsarukyan's sticky situation with the UFC and whether the lads believe he should lose his title opportunity due to an eleventh hour UFC 311 withdrawal (40:00).They also discuss the idea of Sean O'Malley meeting Cory Sandhagen instead of the former champion facing Merab Dvalishvili in a rematch (47:00).Finally, the lads rank what event they're looking forward the most this weekend between PFL, BKFC and the highly anticipated GFL Draft (51:45).
With the UFC taking a week off, this weekend belongs to the other combat sports promotions in the world and they're taking advantage of it. On Saturday, BKFC returns for its big Knucklemania 5 event in Philadelphia, headlined by a five-round scrap between Eddie Alvarez and Jeremy Stephens. But before that goes down, PFL hosts its first event of 2025 with a Champions Series card in Dubai headlined by a sensational lightweight title fight between Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes. MMA Fighting's Jed Meshew and Alexander K. Lee take a deep dive into both big combat sports cards this weekend, including who wins the BKFC headliner, how the BKFC heavyweight title fight between Mick Terrill and Ben Rothwell might go, which other fights they're looking forward to on Saturday, answer viewer questions, and more.
