Welcome to Part 2 of one of the most important and personal episodes of Everyone's Talkin' Money. In Part 1, we exposed the damaging belief that your self-worth is tied to your net worth—and now, it's time to do something about it. In this episode, I walk you through my four-part Separation Process—a framework to help you shift from financial shame to clarity, resilience, and empowerment. You'll learn how to rewire the way you see yourself in relation to money, so you can stop letting your bank balance dictate your self-esteem and finally take back your financial power. You'll walk away with: The Separation Process:Step 1 – Separate the Math from the Meaning. Learn how to treat your finances as data—not a moral scorecard—so you can make money decisions without shame. Step 2 – Inventory Your Non-Financial Value. Make a list of 10 ways you add value to the world that have nothing to do with money—and keep it close for tough days. Step 3 – Redefine Success on Your Terms. Ditch society's hustle metric and reimagine what success looks like when it aligns with your values. Step 4 – Practice Compassionate Reality. Handle financial challenges with truth and grace, so you're solving problems—not attacking your own self-worth. Plus: The Worth Resume – a powerful tool to track the value you bring to the world that's not on a spreadsheet Self-Worth Buffers – five daily practices that build emotional resilience and protect your identity from financial stress Real-Life Scenarios – practical scripts and strategies for common situations where self-worth and money get tangled: We will discuss: Social comparison on Instagram Financial setbacks or mistakes (like missed payments) Saying “no” to spending you can't afford Having hard money convos with partners or family Even celebrating financial wins without letting them define you This episode is your emotional toolkit for making money decisions from strength, not shame. You are not your balance sheet—and today, we're putting that truth into action. In this episode I explore the profound connection between self-acceptance and financial wellness. Discover why the journey to liking yourself isn't a simple switch to flip, but rather a transformative process that can revolutionise your relationship with both your self-image and your spending habits. I had SO MUCH TO SAY it's ended up being a two parter, so tune in next Thursday for 4 more ways to like yourself more. What you'll learn: Why self-acceptance is a gradual journey of neuroplasticity, not an overnight transformation The surprising ways our self-perception drives our financial decisions Practical strategies to break the cycle of "improvement" spending How to begin separating your self-worth from the standards we've been conditioned to meet Episode Highlights: The Self-Love Switch MythWhy we've been conditioned to believe self-acceptance is instantaneous rather than a gradual rewiring of our thinking patterns. The Money-Image ConnectionExplore the hidden relationship between how we see ourselves and where our money goes—particularly through "enhancement" purchases that promise to make us more acceptable. Breaking the Consumption-Confidence LoopLearn why stopping certain consumption patterns might actually be more effective than adding new ones when building self-acceptance. The Mirror of JudgmentDiscover how our perception of others directly influences our self-criticism and spending habits, and what we can do to break this pattern. Neutrality Before PositivityMy journey of moving from self-hatred to self-neutrality before reaching self-acceptance, and why this middle step is crucial. The True Cost of Self-CriticismUncover the financial impact of constantly trying to "fix" yourself through purchases, and what happens when you begin to step away from this pattern Quotable Moments: "When you're relying on that externality, that was just a complete sinkhole of spending because there is no end there. It's just a cycle that's going to keep going around." "If you see it as a project of changing the way you see yourself, rather than just going from disliking yourself to liking yourself, it will feel a lot more manageable." Is the Church Full of Hypocrites? The Truth Might Shock You! One of the biggest criticisms of Christianity is that the church is filled with hypocrites. Maybe you've heard it. Maybe you've even felt it. But is it true? In this powerful message, Pastor Steve Garcia tackles this tough question head-on. Why do some Christians seem to pick and choose which sins to condemn? Why do some non-believers act with more kindness than those who claim to follow Jesus? And what did Jesus Himself say about hypocrisy? The answer might surprise you. And it might just change how you see faith forever. Join us as we dive into Matthew 15 and uncover the real heart of the matter. In this insightful episode, Christine coaches Alecks, who is navigating the fine line between self-care and selfishness. Alecks shares her struggles with balancing her own needs and feelings of guilt when caring for her family, particularly her mother. Together, they dive deep into inner child work, exploring how unresolved childhood wounds and patterns of self-abandonment can manifest in adult relationships and personal choices. Christine guides Alecks to connect with her inner child, offering tools to repair the sense of abandonment and foster a secure attachment within herself. This heartfelt conversation sheds light on how we can honor our own needs while still showing compassion for others, ultimately empowering us to make choices rooted in love rather than guilt. Consider/Ask Yourself: Do you often feel guilty for taking time for yourself or prioritizing your own needs? Are you unclear about the difference between self-care and being selfish? Do you struggle with feelings of abandonment or guilt when dealing with family obligations? Are you ready to strengthen the relationship with your inner child and break old patterns? Key Insights and A-HAs: Inner child work is an ongoing process that fosters healing and connection. Guilt often stems from unresolved childhood patterns of self-silencing and overcompensation. True self-care involves choosing from a place of love, not guilt or obligation. Repairing the relationship with your inner child can reduce feelings of abandonment and foster inner peace. How to Get Over It & On With It: Check in with your inner child regularly to understand their needs and feelings. Practice secure attachment techniques, such as clear communication and creating agreements. Reflect on where you might be operating out of guilt or obligation instead of authentic care. Take actionable steps to balance family responsibilities with your own well-being. In part two of this special series, From the Crows' Nest host Ken Miller brings back researchers Jeff Kojac and Olivia Letts from George Mason University Costello School of Business and its Baroni Center for Government Contracting to discuss the findings from six case studies they've conducted and what they ultimately recommend to reform the DOD's PPBE Process. The pair found that their case studies ultimately confirmed commonly held criticisms of the process: that there were delays when funding rapid development and deployment of new capabilities was needed. They ultimately issued nine different recommendations to reform the process including reducing program elements to make a more streamlined and consolidated budget, as well as amending the continuing resolution prohibition on new starts to allow program offices dealing with new requirements or new technological developments to adapt to them without having to wait until January or February of the following year. While the pair say the future of DOD PPBE reform is uncertain, they say that the final report has executive-level support — a note of optimism that some of these recommendations may be implemented. To learn more about today's topics or to stay updated on EMSO and EW developments, visit our homepage.
