In this episode of "Everyday Black Men," the hosts—Riker, Reed, The Black Libertarian, Stylish, The Rider, and Sham—welcome Ken W., a bail attorney and board member of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas. Ken reveals that the FBI has admitted to inaccuracies in its crime statistics, sparking questions about the broader implications of flawed data. The Black Libertarian underscores the right to self-defense with Ken, which flips when Ken professes he supports the traditional bailbond system—an area of disagreement since the Black Libertarian personally benefited from cash bail to avoid an indefinite jail stay. Reed favors a system tailored to local needs, prompting Sham to ask if any agencies or individuals work toward bridging the gap between extremes. Stylish then raises concerns about migrant-related crime, leading Ken to explain how cartels exploit migrants for minor offenses that still trigger cash bail, effectively concluding a thought-provoking discussion.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/everyday-black-men--2988631/support.
At this week's Round Table, Inyoo, Kassandra, and Preena were joined by Ken W. Good, a legal expert and member of the Board of Directors for the Professional Bondsmen of Texas, to explore the complex and often contentious world of bail reform. With a law degree from Texas Tech and years of experience arguing cases before the Supreme Court of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ken brings a wealth of knowledge to the discussion. Throughout the episode, we delve into the critical role the bail industry plays within the criminal justice system, discussing the real-world implications of zero-bail policies and their impact on public safety and recidivism. Ken offers a balanced perspective on the conflicting studies surrounding bail reform—some of which show alarming re-offense rates among those released on zero-bail, while others, such as those from New Jersey, suggest that eliminating cash bail does not necessarily lead to an increase in violent crime. We also explore the methodology behind these studies, questioning the validity of their conclusions and what they mean for future policymaking. With the continued rise of bail reform across the U.S., understanding the full scope of its impact has become crucial for lawmakers, law enforcement, and the public alike. Ken provides important insights into how these studies shape the conversation, and what is at stake for communities across the nation. As bail reform continues to be a hotly debated topic, Ken offers valuable insights into potential alternatives and compromises that might bridge the divide between differing viewpoints. His thoughts on how to ensure both public safety and fairness within the justice system provide a fresh perspective on how these issues could be addressed in the future. Tune in for an engaging conversation with Ken W. Good as we tackle the complexities of bail reform and its impact on our society. Thanks for listening!

Are Bail Reform Laws Causing Violent Crime to Go Up or Down? Ken Good, a Practising Attorney and a Board member of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas will be a guest on The NeoLiberal Round Podcast and YouTube Channel next week. I will discuss the widely varying reports of the effect of bail reform on violent crime in America with Mr. Good. Some studies from advocates show that such crimes did not increase due to reform efforts, while other studies showed the opposite. Are any of the studies accurate? Good has worked closely with lawmakers and other individuals on bail matters. He will offer his perspective on the impact that criminal justice and bail reform have had on public safety. Bail reform remains a contentious subject, with significant implications for public safety and justice system equity. On the one hand, a study from California's Yolo County District Attorney's office reports alarming re-offense rates among defendants released on zero bail, suggesting a direct link between bail reform and increased crime (1). According to this study, 70% of defendants released without bail reoffended, with a significant proportion committing violent crimes (ibid). Conversely, a study published May 22 by researchers at Drexel University, focusing on New Jersey's bail reform, finds no evidence that eliminating cash bail increases violence (2). New Jersey, one of the first states to significantly reform its bail system, has seen a reduction in pretrial detention without a corresponding rise in gun violence or other crimes (ibid). As bail reform continues to gain traction nationwide, understanding its true impact is crucial for policymakers, law enforcement, and the public. Misconceptions about bail reform could lead to misguided policies that either compromise public safety or perpetuate unnecessary incarceration. We will share the interview as an Editorial in The Neoliberal Post at renaldocmckenzie.com and The Neoliberal Journals at theneoliberal.com. It will be available on Sunday, August 25th, 2024 on The Neoliberal Round Podcast or any podcast stream and The Neoliberal Round YouTube Channel. Cutting Through the Chaos with Wallace Garneau – Join Ken W. Good, a leading bail attorney and board member of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas, as he delves into the real effects of cash-free bail. Discussing contrasting studies from Yolo County and Drexel University, Ken reveals the truth behind zero bail policies, crime rates, and public safety, providing valuable insights into this critical issue.
The white-hot controversy over criminal justice and bail reform has ramped up yet another notch. This time, however, a progressive district attorney and a professor of math are at the forefront of recent evidence that strongly suggests that defendants released on zero-bail are more likely to re-offend. 70% of defendants released for free reoffended and were twice as likely to commit a new crime, compared to those who had to post bail. In addition, suspects were three times as likely to be rearrested for committing a violent crime under zero-bail versus being required to post bond. While reform advocates dismiss the idea of bail reform as being behind a rise in crime, others, including a growing chorus of prosecutors and law enforcement, say that it is absolutely responsible for the increase in both crime and recidivism -- including murder at the hands of individuals who have been released. In addition, he has written numerous articles on the subject of bail reform, including, “What Successful Bail Reform Looks Like.” Mr. Good is married and has two daughters At the crossroads of this contentious issue are criminal justice reform advocates who contend that releasing individuals charged with a crime back into society for free, pending trial, not only promotes fairness, but also results in a decrease in crime rates. On the other side, law enforcement and victims' rights groups, alongside the bail industry, argue that releasing defendants without any accountability poses a serious threat to public safety. This polarized debate is capturing the attention of both policy-makers and the public, with both sides presenting compelling arguments and supporting studies to bolster their claims. What makes this debate particularly intriguing is the contention between the two sides regarding the interpretation of crime statistics. While criminal justice reform advocates argue that any increase in crime is a perceptual issue rather than a factual one, their opponents contend that the statistics and facts are inarguable. The former contends that crime overall is going down across America, citing a big picture view. Meanwhile, supporters of tougher laws are looking at specific jurisdictions where bail reform has been implemented. They contend that violent crime specifically has increased dramatically in these regions. In a recent CNN story, the former Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism for the NYPD cited a survey conducted by the National Retail Federation of its members showed that 81 percent felt that retail crime had grown more violent from the previous year. He also noted that retail giant Target had closed stores in New York City, Portland and Los Angeles -- all cities which had implemented some form of bail reform in recent years.Ken W. What You Need to Know is get to the real cause of violence in America. The tragic killing spree in Maine and subsequent manhunt brings to the forefront again the political discussion about more gun laws, but you and I know it's far more deep than that. American culture is sick and broken with Humanist indoctrination, and we must look past the politicization of violence in America to find the fix. The fix is a heart problem - not a gun problem. Ken W. Good is on the Board of Directors of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas, and he joins Ed today to talk about the consequences of zero bail policies used in California and New York. Bail decisions are critical in the lives of arrested persons. They come without judgment of guilt or innocence but can mean the deprivation of freedom for individuals as they await trial. But they can also have crushing unintended consequences for persons who become the victims of persons released without bail or on insufficient bail. Episode 126 takes no position on the headline debates about bail reform. Instead, Ken W. Good takes us on a tour of the privacy issues involved with bail. A thirty-plus-year attorney, Ken is on the board of directors of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas, the voice of the bail industry in that state. What information does a magistrate or judge obtain when deciding on bail? What personal information about the accused individual is available, and does this data become available to the public? He discusses the bail process, the issue of bail disparities, and how the bail industry deals with risk assessment. 063 - Ken Good is an attorney in Texas who specializes in law services for the bail bond industry. Additionally, Ken works closely with lawmakers and law enforcement on bail matters and provides input to key decision makers as policy evolves. Ken's organization, the Professional Bondsmen of Texas, has a podcast called The Bail Post, which is an on-going discussion on what successful criminal justice reform looks like.Ken's position is that recent progressive attempts at criminal justice reform, by limiting or eliminating bail, have increased crime and been largely counterproductive. Thomas asks various questions about the mechanics of the bail industry, and the two discuss the factors that lead to crime, including whether or not systemic racism is an issue in the United State's criminal justice system. This discussion is respectful and productive, unlike the partisan spats that mainstream media use to polarize the United States. In the ethos of this podcast, let's discuss with nuance and let the best ideas win.Get involved - let me know what you think about the bail industry @bronouveaupod on Instagram and .Timestamps: 2:00 - Introductions and definitions - bondsman 5:00 - Harris County Example 11:00 - There needs to be a viable alternative to bail industry 14:00 - Why failure to appear is an important metric 17:00 - Criticism of the Bail Industry & Ken's Counter-Argument 29:00 - Ideological Differences - Systemic Racism in the Criminal Justice System 36:00 - Crime arises from the drug trade39:00 - Common Sense Drug Policy 49:00 - Thomas' Reflections on this Episode Reference Links: https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02/11/texas-bail-reform/https://spectrumlocalnews.com/tx/south-texas-el-paso/news/2021/09/13/gov--abbott-signs-texas-bail-reform-bill-into-law-Ken's Website: https://pbtx.com/ Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. On the January 26, 2022 episode of Liberal Dan Radio I will be inviting on the show Ken W. Good, a Texas bail attorney and board member of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas. There is a movement amongst many on the left side of the aisle who believe that the bail system is flawed and some people seeking criminal justice reform have helped to form charitable bail funds to help people deal with what is seen as a racist system. There are others who question if these funds do more harm than good because of what happened with Darrell Brooks, who was out on bail on one set of charges when he allegedly plowed through revelers in a Wakesha Christmas parade. He was then offered bail again. We will have this conversation at the bottom half of the hour. Those topics, Hypocrite of the Week, Words of Redneck Wisdom, and more every Wednesday at 8PM Central on Liberal Dan Radio, Talk From The Left, That's Right. Listening live? EP-063 Bail Reform Within the Complexity of Criminal Justice Guest: Ken Good – https://pbtx.com/ I try to avoid the ping pong battle of the right and the left in culture war semantics, and the never ending click bait cries of hypocrisy from both sides. But there was an issue that caught my eye last summer that goes beyond the click bait ping pong match. There was something off during the BLM protests and riots. Something askew in the never ending Antifa pressure campaigns and LARPing battles with police. It was almost as if rioters who broke the law, even in violent ways, were being processed through the court system like a revolving door. Briefly Bail Bond funds became a left wing darling of social justice activists. And a light was shed on local district attorneys who refused to prosecute criminal cases, often in defiance of local bureaucrats and citizens. This wasn't culture war nonsense. There was something mechanical broken in our justice system. And the answer wasn't a winner take all right versus left paradigm. I found a expert within this particular part of the justice system mechanism to help us understand just what is going on, how we got here, and where this apparent movement is going. Ken Good, an attorney in Texas who has extensive experience in the bail bond industry working with insurance underwriters and bondsmen. He wrote a reference guide for the bonding industry in Texas, and is on the board of the Professional Bondsmen of Texas. Now those credentials may seem like Ken has a biased, insider's perspective of these issues, but I've read articles where Ken acknowledges baised deficiencies in the industry; and he takes a nuanced approach to analysing and solving the problem. That is what we need to look at “systemic injustice” in the American incarceration factory we call a justice system. It's not black or white, or right or left. There is nuance or analysis and understanding required to solve any large issue. Email Feedback to theconservativehippiepodcast@gmail.com Support this Podcast! Aaron Freiwald, Managing Partner of Freiwald Law and host of the weekly podcast, Good Law | Bad Law, is joined by attorney Ken W. Good, to discuss bail bond, the notion of bail bond reform, and the wide-ranging implications bail decisions can have on the broader criminal justice system. Today, Aaron and Ken have a conversation about the state of bail in America, the impact the bail industry has, and continues to have, on society, and what exactly the point of bail is. Today’s episode is the first part of our series on bail and bail reform and today’s discussion is at times tense as Ken and Aaron touch on the topics of race, jail populations and overcrowding, urban environments and the irrefutable failings (past and present) of our country. Mr. Good graduated from Hardin Simmons University and received his Masters in Education from Tarleton State University; he received his law degree from Texas Tech School of Law and was a member of the Texas Tech Law Review. Mr. Good has argued cases before the Supreme Court of Texas and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
