Ireland has been drawn against Czechia in the World Cup qualifiers. For the latest on this former Ireland manager, Brian Kerr and our Soccer Correspondent, Tony O'Donoghue.

So now we know, the World Cup play-off fixtures have been announced: Republic of Ireland will play Czech Republic away on March 26th, and if they win, they will play Denmark or North Macedonia in Dublin on March 31st.Northern Ireland will play Italy away, and if they win, they will be away again to Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina.The playoffs are knockout matches so it could all end on March 26th, but what if it doesn't?Can Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson bring the team to the World Cup? That's a dream that even the most diehard fans, looking at the dismal start to the qualifying campaign, had all but given up on. But then there was the win over Portugal – a victory that not only made a trip to the tournament a possibility but kept the manager in a job.Irish Times soccer correspondent Gavin Cummiskey spoke to Hallgrímsson after the draw. Galway United head to the home of the league champions this Saturday (19th July 2025) when they go up against Athlone Town in the SSE Airtricity League Women's Premier Division. The Tribeswomen have won four of their last five games, following a mid-season slump, and are currently third on 22 points, nine behind their opponents. Athlone Town have only conceded two goals this season and were 3-0 victors when they visited Galway back in May. In this episode we talk to Gearóid Ó Faoleán about his research into support for the Provisional IRA in the Republic of Ireland during the Troubles. Gearóid is the author of A Broad Church: The Provisional IRA in the Republic of Ireland, 1969–1980 and A Broad Church Vol. 2: The Provisional IRA in the Republic of Ireland, 1980-1989, published by Merrion Press in 2019 and 2023, respectively. He is currently working on a history of traditional music in west Clare with support from a bursary from the Irish Association of Professional Historians. We discuss the extent of support and sympathy for the IRA in the South and its role in the armed campaign; how public support manifested in training, arms, and the legal system; and the wide, cross-party political spread of IRA sympathy, discrete from the political wing of the Provisional movement. Both volumes of A Broad Church are available from Merrion Press.

They discuss how the UDL framework has helped establish a shared language for teaching across Ireland and how it has transformed their approach to education. Chynel and Colin share their personal journeys with UDL, the differences in teacher professional development between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and the impact of the partnership between the National Education Authorities, Microsoft, and Lasell University has had on teacher leaders in both regions.
