Chris Jones, Gareth Rhys Owen, and Tom English are back to dissect the highs and lows of the Home Nations following the weekend's action. Gro's pleas not to start the pod with Wales go largely ignored, as Warren Gatland's side hits a new low. Would a loss to Italy on Saturday actually be a blessing in disguise, forcing a total reset? Tom argues that England's squad is over-hyped while concerns grow over the inexperience of their coaching staff. And how costly could Scotland's habit of switching off during games be when they face Ireland? Plus, Chris moderates an impromptu game of "Bleakness Top Trumps."
Flo Lloyd-Hughes is joined by Gilly Flaherty and Becky Taylor-Gill to run through the big friendly between England and the USA at Wembley. We discuss the return of Mary Earps, an improved England defence and creative frustrations. We also touch on Scotland's, Wales's and Northern Ireland's Euro 2025 playoffs. Brett McKay and Harry Jones lay out the Games of the Week for the final full weekend of the Northern Spring Autumn Series Tours, the last chance for the Home Nations to save something from the November Tests, and for the southern hemisphere nations to reinforce their claims of global rugby domination. Will Scotland blink first, or Australia? And will the full support of the board continue for Steve Borthwick? Brett McKay and Harry Jones lay out the Games of the Week for the second full weekend of the Northern Spring Autumn Series Tour, where the Home Nations in particular will be seeking responses after all suffering losses of varying degrees of hurt the previous round. Pressure is starting to mount in certain team environments, and another loss will only add to some already uncomfortable narratives. How much patience does Twickenham Man have left? Equally though, the SANZAAR nations in particular will be wanting to continue their run of performances, with all eyes on South Africa to see if they can make themselves proud again after a win, and Australia determine to ensure the Twickenham triumph was not one-night-only. Gloucester's young players made it two bonus point wins from two in the Premiership Cup with a win over a competitive and exciting Cornish Pirates side. Meanwhile England suffered late late heartbreak again, as they conceded an 84 minute try and were beaten by Australia at Twickenham. It was a bad weekend for all the Home Nations as Scotland, Ireland and hilariously Wales were all beaten too. We chat through the games, the key issues and also whether any sporting autobiography is ever any good - particularly as Danny Care has dared to suggest Eddie Jones is a bit of a divisive figure (who knew?!) Jim and Goodey dissect a tough weekend for Northern Hemisphere rugby. England's defeat to Australia raises big questions, including their defensive woes, midfield struggles and coaching frailties. The lads give their take on what's going wrong behind the scenes and some potential fixes. Scotland fell to the Boks despite some standout moments, while Ireland's unbeaten home run ended against the All Blacks on a damp night in Dublin, who look to be rebuilding a terrifying squad. Plus, listener questions: Should England poach NRL stars? Is the 20-minute red card working? And does Owen Farrell change England's fortunes? As part of the budget, farmers in England have been told direct payments will be phased out more quickly than originally planned. Under the EU system farmers were paid subsidy based on the amount of land they farmed - that system is being replaced with new schemes, which are different in the four nations of the UK. In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland farmers continue to get direct payments at the moment. In England the phase out started in 2021. So many farmers are already getting around half what they used to, with payments ending in 2027. In England, the biggest reductions will be for the farmers who historically got the biggest payments. We speak to an upland farmer whose old payments are ending but he says there aren't any new schemes he can apply for yet, so he's losing tens of thousands of pounds. Changes to inheritance tax and agricultural property relief were also announced in the budget. We speak to a rural property expert about what impact those changes will have. Farming unions say farmers and their families may have to sell up to pay the tax.NFU Scotland gives their reaction to the budget. All week we've been focusing on soils. A project to analyse soil health with a view to improving the environment and profitability has been taken up by hundreds of farmers. Technicians go on to farms to look at what might be done to improve the land and make it more sustainable. Lloyds Bank is paying for some of its customers to take part in the audit which is carried out by the Soil Association Exchange. Presenter = Charlotte Smith Producer = Rebecca Rooney
