The episode brings Sir Patrick Sanders, a British military officer, back to discuss geopolitical issues, specifically focusing on the precarious state of global affairs today compared to the 1930s. The conversation delves into the complexities surrounding Donald Trump's foreign policy perceptions, especially his outlook on Russia and Ukraine.  This episode was recorded in Norway at the Grieg Conference, organized by Grieg Investor. They're an independent investment adviser for institutional investors in Norway representing over 170 clients, and part of the Grieg Group.  Sir Patrick elaborates on Trump's stance towards Russia, emphasizing Trump's unpredictable yet impactful actions, such as his claim of ending the Ukrainian war swiftly—a stance deemed as 'magical realism.' Furthermore, the dialogue explores Trump's potential impact on Middle Eastern politics, highlighting challenges like balancing Israeli interests and Iran's geopolitical maneuvers without igniting broader conflicts. As the conversation transitions, China's influence and the West's strategy against a backdrop of escalating global competition are scrutinized, touching upon key ideologies in play. The podcast episode draws attention to urgent strategic choices required by Western nations, navigating the significant challenges posed by the geopolitical landscape amidst technological advances. Insights on investment implications arising from these geopolitical tensions, such as defense and AI sectors, are also discussed by Sir Patrick and Simon.

What is property without privacy? The double-speak of politicians continues to ramp up as we approach another election. At the same time, California passes a new form of safe-storage law that, at best, invades on the privacy of its serfs. I'm sorry, did I say that correctly? There is something worse than Gun Control and we're seeing it arise in the west once again. That is normalcy for political leaders to belief they have the authority to invade the homes and lives of their people in order to assure compliance the bureaucrat's will. The Second Amendment does nothing if the individual's privacy is trampled upon, and certain politicians are advocating for it, even campaigning on it. In this episode learn about the sub structure of the Second Amendment, why privacy is more than an ideal, and where it is under attack. In April 1938, an Oklahoma bank robber was arrested for carrying an unregistered sawed-off shotgun across state lines. The robber, Jack Miller, put forward a novel defense: that a law banning him from carrying that gun violated his Second Amendment rights. For most of U.S. history, the Second Amendment was one of the sleepier ones. It rarely showed up in court, and was almost never used to challenge laws. Jack Miller's case changed that. And it set off a chain of events that would fundamentally change how U.S. law deals with guns.

"The best way to be free is to stay strapped or get clapped." -James Madison, probably Ok, he may not have said that, but after listening to this episode you'll see why he could have... Continuing our series on American political foundations, this week we cover the 2nd Amendment, its historical underpinnings, and how these ideas apply to today. Looking at questions like, 'Why did the Founders write the 2nd Amendment in the first place?', 'Does the 2nd Amendment only apply to the militia?', and 'What should we do to stop mass shootings?', we argue for a balanced look at this controversial issue. The horrific Uvalde shooting or the modern day Doc Holiday Eli Dickens shouldn't be used for political grandstanding. Rather they should point us to the best way to order society, the way our Founders intended. If the Supreme Court strikes down New York's "may issue" carry laws in the coming days, anti-gun politicians and the gun control lobby are working to get a backup plan in place: banning the carrying of firearms in many publicly accessible areas by calling them "sensitive places" off-limits to our Second Amendment rights.

How are the Roe v. Wade debate and the American gun debate related? Norm spends the second hour in a legal and intellectual deep dive into foundational constitutional principles—the federal bill of rights, the notion of the "silly putty constitution", the emergence of non-explicit "rights" through inference, and where that leaves us today in the abortion and gun debates.  Norm believes SCOTUS will overturn Roe v. Wade with its forthcoming decision in Dobbs v. Mississippi Women's Health Center. Moreover, he's okay with that from a perspective of principle. But the calculus is not so straightforward when it comes to Heller's holding that the second amendment affords an individual right to gun ownership.  Norm then spends the final minutes of the second hour by examining the House Select Committee on J6 and whether it has been lawfully consittuted. He reviews his efforts by and through his representation of Alex Jones to attack the unlawfully formed committee in an effort to protect and safeguard the constitutional separation of powers.  Did you know the legislative branch of the United States government has taken the position that it does not honor or respect the attorney-client privilege?
