KSL at Night hosts Adam Gardiner and Rusty Cannon also get insight into some of the other major bills from the special session, including public lands access.  The Democratic view of yesterday’s Legislative Special Session  Some other topics discussed in the special session included protections for international students and how Title IX is interpreted in Utah. Representative Jennifer Dailey-Provost, House Minority Whip, joins the show to explain how Democrats voted in the special session. She walks our listeners through the changes to Title IX and how she believes it hurts a vulnerable group of people, transgender students.  Claims of Chinese land ownership in Utah  Throughout this primary election, land ownership has become a hot topic. One sub-topic of that is how much land China owns in the United States, and here in Utah. While it’s true that China does own land in Utah, the claim needs some context. The KSL at Night hosts walk through recent legislation that prevents some foreign ownership of Utah land.  Strengthening trust in our elections process  Security and safety in our elections is vital for the democratic process to work effectively. But recent elections have called into question the validity and transparency of elections across the country and in Utah. Josh Daniels with Trust Utah Elections shares how Utah law — established by the state legislature — keeps our elections secure. If you want to know how the election process works ahead of next week’s Primary Election, you’ll want to make sure you listen.  Meet John Curtis, GOP candidate for U.S. Senate  This election cycle features a primary race in the Republican Party for the open Senate seat soon to be vacated by Mitt Romney. Lee and Trump have historically been on the same side of things, so does this difference indicate a deeper issue? Some conservatives say “no.” The hosts discuss their opinions.  Why did the U.S. cancel a meeting with Israeli officials?  This week, United States officials canceled a high-profile meeting with Israeli officials following a video from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the video, Netanyahu claims the U.S. has been withholding arms and ammunitions from Israel. American officials deny his claim. The KSL at Hosts hear from several officials talking about the video and share their thoughts.  The incredibly slow rollout of electric vehicle chargers by the federal government  It’s been more than two years since the money was allocated to build 500,000 electric chargers nationwide by 2030. We’re 6 years away from the deadline, and how many chargers have been built? 7. Only 7 chargers in 4 states. What’s causing the delays? What does this say about the future of electric vehicles in general? Hosts Adam and Rusty finish the show with a lively discussion.

Last Tuesday, voters in Kansas rejected a proposal to amend the state's constitution to say there is no right to abortion.  Kansas is one of the most solidly Republican states in the union, having chosen the Republican candidate in all but one presidential election since 1940. But data from the Kansas Secretary of State's office shows that more people voted in the abortion referendum than in any primary election in state history, and the margin of victory was substantial: 59% voted against amending the constitution to ban abortion. For many, the outcome was surprising. But those who know Kansas more intimately understand that the roots of this outcome are deeply ingrained in the history and politics of the state.  The Takeaway spoke with Thomas Frank, author of the 2004 book “What's the Matter with Kansas?” about how the state's political history is reflected in this outcome.  The Takeaway also was joined by Representative Stephanie Clayton, House Minority Whip in the Kansas's State Legislature. Clayton discussed how a more conservative leaning framework for the state's ballot measure on abortion rights ended up being a winning strategy for Democrats and moderate Republicans in the state.

With 100 days until the midterm election, it is a critical time to evaluate just what is at stake. This week on CURE America with Star Parker, Star stops by Congress to sit down with House Minority Whip and Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise, as he provides further insight into the new policy agenda House Republicans are putting together as they pave a path forward for the nation and prepare for potentially taking back control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Horace Cooper, Chairman of Project 21 National Advisory Board, is back to discuss and contrast these efforts with the same ones made 25 years ago when he worked with House Majority Leader Dick Armey. Alfonso Aguilar is joined this week on the panel by Paris Dennard, National Spokesperson and Director of Black Media Affairs for the Republican National Committee. Together, they shed light on the work that is involved as the nation gears up for another election, the efforts taken and needed, and whether or not we will see politics continue as usual, or if this is the dawn of a new political day.

Last week, President Biden announced a framework for a nearly $2 trillion social spending and climate package along with a separate $1 trillion dedicated to infrastructure that he and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are now rallying Democrats to pass. The passage of these bills could mark a major victory for the Democrats before the 2022 midterms, however, the pieces of legislation have a ways to go before approval. House Minority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) joins to discuss why he believes Democrats may find difficulty in whipping the votes, how a potential Republican victory in the Virginia governor's race could bode well for Republicans in the midterm elections and how he believes President Biden's foreign and climate policy decisions have made the U.S. weaker on the international stage.   Eleven years ago, a string of murders shook Gilgo Beach on Long Island, NY. It started with the discovery of human remains on the beach followed by nine more bodies over the next year, mostly of young women working as escorts. The case remains unsolved after more than a decade. FOX News Investigative reporter and producer Cristina Corbin has been covering this case for over a decade and is one of the producers of the FOX News Audio podcast and FOX Nation series called Grim Tide: Hunting the Long Island Serial Killer. I spent most of my life as an educator in the community I represent, my daughter teaches at Skyline, where many of my constituents’ children attend. My community expects me to be an advocate for our public schools and frequently contact me about issues affecting their children. That is a big part of my responsibility to my constituents, to be their advocate. Bio: Before I was elected to the Utah House of Representatives, I had a wonderful, rewarding career for 33 years teaching English and student government at Olympus High School. My decision to run for office was prompted by the negative attitude my then representative had toward public education and teachers, whom he called “a bunch of whiners,” when we went on strike for higher salaries and smaller class sizes. I defeated him in 2000 and am now running for my 11th term. Besides education, I have focused in recent years on passing legislation addressing the opioid epidemic, mental health issues, prison and jail reform, clean air, refugees, and driving safety. I have served as a board member on many non-profits, all of which focus on children and social justice issues. For many years, I have served in leadership positions in my caucus. Currently, I am House Minority Whip. My husband Bob and I have five children and six grandchildren. We love to travel and have been to many fascinating countries, some we have visited as part of humanitarian missions. I love to read, walk, spend time with family, and yes, I love my job, and believe holding public office is a privilege, one I take very seriously. Representing my constituents in District 37, Holladay and Murray, two great cities, is a great pleasure and honor. So this one was another one of those movies that I hoped I would learn from as well as observe how so many government politicians welded power. Sitting through this I almost forgot about the corruption of the Bush administration as well as how our government was infiltrated by power hungry bureaucrats. Pretty amazing satire of true events of Dick Cheneys life. Aired Tuesday, 20 November 2018, 5:00 PM ESTRadical Honesty in a Time of Fake News and Real LiesAn Interview with Psychotherapist Brad Blanton, Author of Radical Honesty“The truth shall UPSET you free.” — Swami BeyondanandaI first met Brad Blanton nearly 25 years ago, when his controversial book Radical Honesty: How To Transform Your Life By Telling The Truth, was first published. Our joke at that time was that our President, Bill “I-did-not-have-sex-with-that-woman” Clinton was a practitioner of “sporadical honesty.”We have now collectively evolved (or devolved) to a place where our current president practices “radical dishonesty”, and where paradoxically his followers consider him trustworthy because he is “honest” about being a liar. Think about it. What other politician in recent memory has been celebrated for “telling it like it is” while so blatantly telling it like it isn’t?My guest this week, Brad Blanton will offer his “radically honest” perspective on the “shituation”, and — knowing Brad — you can expect a wild ride that will leave you both elevated but with “feet on the ground.”Brad Blanton, Ph.D is a psychotherapist, author, workshop leader, speaker, and the founder of Radical Honesty Enterprises. Dr. Brad Blanton describes himself as “white trash with a Ph.D.” Armed with quick wit and an engaging Southern accent, he speaks with an unwavering honesty that is both disarming and challenging, a quality that has earned him admirers as well as detractors. His first book, Radical Honesty: How To Transform Your Life By Telling The Truth, became a nationwide best seller in 1996 and has been translated into twelve languages and published around the world. The revised edition was released by Sparrowhawk Publications in April, 2005.His second book, Practicing Radical Honesty: How to Complete the Past, Live in the Present and Build a Future with A Little Help From Your Friends, is about the relationship between personal transformation and social transformation. In 2002, consistent with that same theme, he published Honest to God: A Change of Heart that Can Change the World (with Neale Donald Walsch). Also in 2002, he published Radical Parenting: Seven Steps to a Functional Family in a Dysfunctional World, which is about child rearing, and Brad says it is the most radical book he has ever written.Brad has twice been an independent candidate for Congress from his rural home district in Virginia, running against Republican Eric Cantor, who later served as House Minority Whip.If you’re wondering how to discern deep truth in a time of shallow lies — both personally and politically — tune in thisTuesday, November 20th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/ to find out.Or, find us on the Wiki archives on Wednesday: http://wikipolitiki.com/archives/To find out more about Brad and Radical Honesty, please go here: https://www.radicalhonesty.com/start-here/Support Wiki Politiki — A Clear Voice In The “Bewilderness”If you LOVE what you hear, and appreciate the mission of Wiki Politiki, “put your money where your mouse is” … Join the “upwising” — join the conversation, and become a Wiki Politiki supporter: http://wikipolitiki.com/join-the-upwising/Make a contribution in any amount via PayPal (https://tinyurl.com/y8fe9dks)Go ahead, PATRONIZE me! Trent Lott: "Bipartisan Leadership"

Senator Trent Lott represented the people of Mississippi in Congress for 35 years and is one of a handful of officials to have held elected leadership positions in both the House of Representatives and Senate. During his 16 years in the House and 19 years in the Senate, he worked closely with seven presidential administrations and was regarded as a savvy coalition builder and deal maker. He was the former Senate Majority Leader, Senate Republican Whip and House Republican Whip. Senator Lott joined the House in 1973, representing Mississippi’s Fifth Congressional District. From 1981 to 1989 he served as House Minority Whip, the second-ranking Republican in the House. In that position he forged the bipartisan alliance that enacted Ronald Reagan’s economic recovery program and national security initiatives. He also founded the House’s first modern whip organization with a focus on regular member-to-member contacts and extensive outreach to sympathetic Democrats to secure passage of major legislation. In 1988 Senator Lott was elected to the Senate where he was a member of a group of pro-growth stalwarts who opposed the tax increase forced on President Bush in 1990. He became the Senate’s 16th Majority Leader in 1996 and, along with Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, was instrumental in the passing of the historic welfare reform bill of 1996. The next year Senator Lott worked with Gingrich and congressional Budget Committee chairmen John Kasich and Pete Domenici to produce a landmark budget and tax cut agreement that limited some federal spending while, more importantly, stimulating the economic growth that brought the federal budget into balance for the first time since 1968. As the Republican leader in the Senate during the first two years of President George W. Bush’s administration, Senator Lott led the fight for passage of the President’s tax cut package, the President’s historic education reform bill, the largest increase in defense spending since the Cold War, the most significant trade legislation in a decade, and the resolution supporting the President of military action in Iraq. Senator Lott later helped to reach the compromises leading to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. In 2006 Senator Lott was elected Senate Republican Whip, giving him the distinction of being the only person to hold that position in both the House and Senate. Today Senator Lott co-chairs the Public Policy practice and provides strategic advice at Squire Patton Boggs, consulting and lobbying clients on a wide range of public policy matters, including defense and homeland security, tax and financial services, energy, transportation and communications. Senator Lott and fellow former Senator John Breaux founded the Breaux-Lott Leadership Group, a bipartisan public policy firm that quickly became one of the 20 largest government relations firms in Washington.
