Matthew (he/him) and Jo (she/they) gaze into a “Shattered Mirror” as we return to the Mirror Universe with Jennifer Sisko. We praise Cirroc Lofton's acting in this episode, we analyze all of Ben Sisko's actions that have led to this single episode and we revel in the hilarity of this ridiculous but fun episode of Star Trek. We both wonder if Sisko has the heighest kill count of any Federation Captain and Jo rants about how much she loves tall women. As always, be prepared that spoilers may be lurking around every corner just like Garak on Empok Nor.Subscribe for weekly recaps of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, follow us online at @TerokNoir on Twitter for silly memes and polls and contact us by e-mail at teroknoirpod@gmail.com

Carlos Carrasco: From Panama to The Stars Carlos Carrasco has a lifetime of roles on stage and screen under his belt, including four roles across "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager." His first role was as the Klingon warrior named D'Ghor in the DS9 classic "The House of Quark." Carlos followed that being a Klingon KCA officer with Garak on a leash in "Shattered Mirror," then jumped to VOY as Bahrat in "Fair Trade," and made his "shocking" final appearance as the alien Krole in "Honor Among Thieves." Growing up in Panama, Carlos explains how he found his way into acting, why he left his home country to pursue the American dream, performing Shakespeare across the nation and his experiences in the New York and regional theater world, and the challenges of finding roles as a Latino actor when he was coming up in the business. Carlos discusses his makeup routines for his various Star Trek roles, memories of working on set, meeting Stephen hawking during the filming of one episode, the Shakespearean qualities of Star Trek, and what Carlos learned from Kristin Linklater that he implemented in his Trek roles. Plus, a hilarious story about Rita Moreno, his time in "Crocodile Dundee 2", "Return of Super Fly," "Speed" with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock and the drastic changes that happened during the production of that film, and more! Bette and Parker are left tied up in JJ's room, but they are rescued by Dodgy Eric, who has been playing dead on the bed for some time. Parker runs off to call the police, while Bette takes Eric's gun and goes in search of JJ and Gretchen. Meanwhile, JJ and Gretchen try and stall for time with an ever-more-dangerous Bohdanko. After several failed attempts to lose him, Bohdanko's phone rings. It becomes clear that he has double-crossed his boss, and is planning to steal the Vermeer for himself. In a desperate attempt to lose him, JJ and Gretchen lead Bohdanko to Wizzzard Entertainment's hidden rooms in the schloss. But when they get there, JJ realises they are not alone. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Muse Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 20: The Muse where Lwaxana Troi turns up with a big surprise and a creepy alien preys on Jake's writing talents. Even though the creepy alien is supposed to be the muse, we also learn that Lwaxana has had a similar muse-like impact on Odo! There are some surprises in this wildly underrated episode and also some genuine "ewww" moments. It's always nice to see a guest appearance from Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, but we also have an interesting performance from Meg Foster as the alien. The Muse In this episode a creepy alien turns up and starts sucking the life force out of Jake while supposedly turning him into a great writer. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if she didn't also rub it all over herself while hiding out with him in the bowels of the station. I mean this is gross. Meanwhile, Lwaxana Troi turns up pregnant and in need of help from Odo who in this episode surprises himself when he examines their relationship. Turns out he kind of digs her. Welcome to season 4, episode 19: Shattered Mirror where we once again go through the looking glass into the dark, but lively Mirrorverse. There is more of Leather Kira to behold and this time we get a few more doppelgangers like Worf and Nog. Where is Mirror Kai Winn?? While it's a treat to see Mirror Worf and a Mirror Defiant, we're not so sure about some of the questionable acting or the questionable hair choices here. Why does the mirrorverse ruin your hair? Shattered Mirror In this episode Jake meets up with his mom's doppelganger and follows her through the looking glass into the Mirror Universe! This topic of an unhealthy or abusive relationship in therapy is not something you probably hear about every day, and unless you've experienced it personally or know someone who has, you may not even know it's actually a thing. My guest on the podcast today, Analie Shepherd, has experienced this type of abuse first hand, has written a book detailing her experiences and healing and speaks at conferences and with therapists on this topic.Analie joined the podcast previously back in 2017, where she first shared some of her experiences and gave us some insight into the world of healing from an abusive therapy experience. Today we continue that discussion as Analie shares a recap of her story and discusses more in-depth some of the more pertinent aspects of what abusive in therapy actually is, how to recognize it, and what healing looks like. From her website, MendingtheShatteredMirror.com - During the last four years, I have fulfilled one of my life dreams! I am a published author! For many years, friends have encouraged me to write the story of my life. Recently, I went through a traumatic experience, and have struggled to reclaim my life. This struggle became the motivation to finally write my story.Mending the Shattered Mirror chronicles the life-shattering abuse I suffered in psychotherapy, but also tells the life-affirming story of my search for healing and wholeness. Within the pages of this book, I have included my remarkable life journey--the sometimes tragic, sometimes triumphant, story of me!During our chat on healing from abuse in therapy, we cover:Analie shares a recap of her story on how and why she first sought the help of a therapist. How the abuse in therapy began and continued for 4 years. In addition, why she stayed in the environment for so long before finally being able to leave and begin healing. How to recognize the signs of a potentially unhealthy or outright abusive relationship with a therapist; they aren't as recognizable as you might think. Why it's not a bad thing for a client to long for a deeper relationship with their therapist, and the importance of the therapist being able to maintain the boundaries of a professional relationship. Are there dangers in showing any type of affection, even innocently, between a patient and their therapist?Working through the shame and self-blame that comes with realizing you were a victim of abuse in therapy.Things you can do to address concerns with your therapist or other helping professional. You can purchase Analie's book, Mending the Shattered Mirror, A Story of Recovery from Abusive Therapy, on Amazon. Welcome back, listeners! In the fourth episode of Season 2, B+C is bringing you ALL JUST GLASS. Published in January 2011, this one is out of order from the last ones because it is a direct sequel to SHATTERED MIRROR, #7 in the Den of Shadows but the thirteenth book by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. We return to the world of Sarah Vida, but now with her sister and cousin also taking center stage. Despite our pure salt last time, we're really excited to talk about this one!  Featuring Cyna drinking the mixed drink "Shattered Dreams" (blackberry schnapps, grenadine, Sprite, and grape juice) and Ollie continuing their variation on the "Broken Mirror" here called "Shattered Mirror" (1 part each Absente absinthe, lime juice, and simple syrup, and a sprig of mint). Intro theme - "Let It In" by Josh Woodward.  Bonus content! Have a gander at Cyna's and Ollie's drink set ups over on Twitter. Next time: MIDNIGHT PREDATOR, the fourth original Den of Shadows novel! (1h 37m. Content Warning: Vulgar and lewd language, drinking alcohol, timeline obsessing, and overly dramatic drunk readingsfrom hosts; discussions of violence, present but not intentional sexual assault metaphors from feeding on people, addiction metaphors that get preachy, moral grays, kidnapping, bad coping skills, magical compulsion and removal of agency, personality modification, narcissistic authority figures, blood and lineage being obsessively important, slut-shaming, misogynist vampires, non-consensual feeding on blood, and subtly terrible power dynamics from the book.) Welcome back, listeners! In the third episode of Season 2, B+C is bringing you SHATTERED MIRROR. This is the third novel by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, published in fall 2001. Like the second book, this one is about vampires and witches, but with witches taking center stage! Despite a lot of interesting meta...we're real salty about this one. PLEASE READ THE CONTENT WARNINGS. This one is rough and we get EXTRA vulgar about it. Featuring Cyna drinking the mixed drink "Black & White" and Ollie with a variation on the "Broken Mirror" here called "Shattered Mirror" (1 part each Absente absinthe, lime juice, and simple syrup, and then a sprig of mint). Content Warning: Vulgar and lewd language, drinking alcohol, talk around lived experiences during 9/11, timeline obsessing, and overly dramatic drunk readings from hosts; discussions of violence, murder, mental and physical torture, non-consensual scarification, bad mother-daughter relationships, family conditioning, aggressive stalking, dude apologists, relationship zoning, girls being punished because men’s feelings got hurt, men making decisions for teenage girls, Nice Guy bullshit, internalized misogyny, manpain, entitled fragile toxic masculinity, "oppressed" apex predators, shaming of women, unintentional but very present sex and sexual assault metaphors, one twin being creepily twincesty, mentions of suicidal humans, magical compulsion and removal of agency, personality modification, gaslighting, grooming, lovebombing, and subtly terrible power dynamics from the book.) Just in case you haven't heard, traditional media in Canada has fallen on hard times. Just ask them. Coverage on this topic by corporate print, periodical, radio and television has not been sporadic or lacking detail. But it's not like this is an overnight avalanche without a clear pattern developing over the last 30 years. The once exclusive domain of print for classified ads which generated a huge portion of revenues started to disappear with eBay, kijiji, Craig's List and others near the turn of the century. It has been replaced by...nothing. A high market saturation of subscriptions to print started to decay more than a generation ago. It has been replaced by...nothing. The speed and agility of the internet is no competition for hard copy physical text in delivery or currency. That was countered by creating a new delivery system by entities with no digital experience. Aggregators simply took it and ran, also taking almost all the revenue from the activity. Television thought the video format would insulate their ad revenues. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and others said not so fast. These lost revenues have been replaced with...nothing. Only radio has managed to keep afloat, but not anything more than that. Everybody knows the problem. It's only been almost 50 years since the Davey report in the Canadian Senate "The Uncertain Mirror" sounded the alarm on the then new issue of media concentration. Today, Google and Facebook take 2/3 of all advertising revenues in media. That's concentration. Canadians still trust and value their traditional media by a large margin compared to the internet giants of today. In 2017, the Public Policy Forum undertook a new study to guide government on how to go about trying to rescue legacy media in Canada - "The Shattered Mirror". The money has been earmarked, $600 million of it. Now the hard part begins. TVUH looks at the study and the options going forward.

The Orb: A Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast

The Mirror Universe, Part 3: Shattered Mirror. Since its introduction in the second season of The Original Series, the Mirror Universe has been a fan favorite. This alternate world in which good is bad has captured the imagination of fans and allowed writers to put a new twist on Star Trek's familiar wrappings. Following 1967's “Mirror, Mirror,” our connection with this reflection of sorts was severed for many years. It wasn't until Deep Space Nine's second season and “Crossover” in 1994 that we once again got a glimpse on screen. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing explore DS9's third trip to the Mirror Universe in “Shattered Mirror,” including the connections between Benjamin, Jennifer, and Jake, what Deep Space Nine might have been like had the Siskos been a family aboard the station, and whether these trips to the Mirror Universe are simply playful jaunts or chances to further develop the DS9 story. As the hosts reflect on mirror Jennifer Sisko’s relationship with real Jake Sisko, as well as Benjamin’s indifference to the mirror universe, and the continuing wonder of Mirror Kira, they also reveal truths about their feelings on the Jimmy Stewart classic, Harvey, the unforgettably horrifying imagery of a classic TNG episode, and they receive an unsettling visit from an eerie, yet exciting, guest. Once they crack into the sherry, things get really wild!

Deep Space Nine's fourth season runs aground on some pretty mediocre episodes this week. Oh, "Hard Time" is fantastic, sure, but then "Shattered Mirror" tries (and fails) to make us care about the mirror universe again, again; and then "The Muse" can't figure out which really boring episode it wants to be: the dull one about Jake's battle with the mind vampire, or the dull one about Lwaxana Troi and Odo getting married. Before that, though, we talk about Dan Harmon's return to Community and Community's return to our televisions, plus a pretty good episode of Elementary that brings Moriarty back into the mix. Afterwards, we talk about Friday Night Lights and feel no sympathy for Buddy Garrity.Next week: LOST, with "The Little Prince," "This Place Is Death," and "316." Remember to make sure no one's taken the firing pin out of your rifle before you point at someone!

Happy New Year! Let's celebrate with the last podcast we recorded in 2013 (which would have gone up during that dark, forgotten year had it not been for technical difficulties)! We're ringing in 2014 by kicking off the fifth season of LOST!, with "Because You Left," "The Lie," and "Jughead." This is J.'s favorite season, and holy cats, Robby liked all of these episodes, too! It's a miracle! Also, we discuss Friday Night Lights and "Extended Families," an episode that dispenses with football as quickly as it possibly can.Next week, back to Deep Space Nine with "Hard Time," "Shattered Mirror," and "The Muse." Also, Community will be back, plus Elementary, maybe? It'll be a big show.
