POPULARITY
Kolēģe Māra Rozenberga "Straumes" panākumiem sekojusi jau no pirmsākumiem un turpina to darīt. "Man tiešām bija milzīgs, milzīgs prieks, es no laimes apraudājos. Man pašai liekas, ka izredzes ir 99,99%. Bet es esmu optimists. Tā, kā es ļoti ceru. Varbūt nevienam neko nesakām, sakām, ka ir jau labi, ka nominēta, ka labāk vairs nevar. Tas jau arī ir milzīgs gods. Tad, kad saņemsim "Oskaru", tad dziedāsim." Janvāra sākumā, kad „Straume” saņēma „Zelta globusu”, Māra Rozenberga arī viesojās Jaņa Rozentāla Mākslas skolā, kuru savulaik absolvējis Gints Zilbalodis.

From Signe Baumane, director of Rocks in My Pockets, comes a new award-winning animated feature about a spirited young woman determined to find love in the bewildering world. MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH MARRIAGE follows Zelma on her 23-year quest for perfect love and lasting marriage set against a backdrop of historic events in Eastern Europe. From an early age, songs and fairy tales convince Zelma that Love would solve all her problems as long as she abides by societal expectations of how a girl should act. But as she grows older, something doesn't seem right with this concept of love: the more she tries to conform, the more her body resists. A story of inner-female rebellion. Told from a woman's point of view, the film blends historical, biological, societal, and emotional arcs with a lively sense of humor and musical numbers. This animated film for adults tackles the issues of love, gender norms, domestic violence, fantasies and toxic relationships to propel a woman's journey toward independence and liberation. Director Signe Baumane (Rocks in My Pockets) joins us for a lively conversation on love, identity, marriage, her unique journey to becoming an artist / animator and the joy of having artistic and commercial control over her work.
Pozabili nismo niti na redni spored v kinu, kjer smo si ogledali Zločine prihodnosti Davida Cronenberga in prvi domači božični film Kapa Slobodana Maksimovića.
Gandrīz vienlaikus tā piedzīvoja Eiropas pirmizrādi pasaules svarīgākajā animācijas festivālā Ansī, Francijā, un Latīņamerikas pirmizrādi Gvadalahārā (Meksikā), kur notiek viens no būtiskākajiem festivāliem visā Amerikas kontinentā. Abos festivālos filma izcelta ar īpašām žūrijas atzinības balvām. Gvadalahāras festivālā Meksikā filmu pārstāvēja un balvu saņēma producents Roberts Vinovskis. "Filmu labi uztver un saprot dažādas auditorijas," atzīst Roberts Vinovskis. Latvijā filmas "Mans laulību projekts" pirmizrāde būs rudenī, iespējams, oktobrī. Domājams, tad arī Latvijā ieradīsies režisore Signe Baumane.
Presenting the fifth episode of 'Intimate Animation' season 4, brought to you by the online animation magazine skwigly.com Join Skwigly's Ben Mitchell and Laura-Beth Cowley as they explore, discuss and interview the talents behind animation that deals with adult themes of love, relationships and sexuality. In this episode we welcome back Lori Malépart-Traversy, who has followed up her enormously successful student film 'Le Clitoris' with 'Magical Caresses' ('Caresses magiques'), a five-film series of animated documentaries that humorously present a range of testimonials and historical facts that demystify the subject of masturbation. Based on intimate accounts from Sarah Gagnon-Piché and Sara Hébert's 'Caresses magiques' book series, the series will be represented at this year's Annecy festival with episode 3 ('Sweet Jesus') playing in competition, on the heels of episode 5 ('Masturbation: A Short History of a Great Taboo')'s recent win at Sommets du cinéma d'animation for Best Educational Film. Also discussed in this episode: The upcoming premiere of previous podcast guest Signe Baumane's new independent feature 'My Love Affair With Marriage', the quiet UK return of Lisa Hanawalt's 'Tuca and Bertie', a look at Netflix's 'Big Mouth' spinoff series 'Human Resources' and Sam O'Leary's animated segments for the 'Inside No. 9' episode 'Wise Owl'. From the first moving drawings that appeared on screens back in the 1930s to the highly imaginative, emotionally resonant filmmaking of today – animation has come a long way. It is no longer considered a pleasant cinematic distraction for kids. In fact, some of the boldest, most creative and slyly subversive filmmaking can be found in animation. Kim Chakanetsa speaks to two women responsible for bringing animated characters to life. María Cecilia Botero is an actor from Colombia whose career spans five decades. She has experience in everything from performing musical theater, to being a news anchor, to starring in popular telenovelas, to dubbing commercials and most recently voicing the character of the Abuela in the Oscar-Winning Disney film Encanto. Signe Baumane is a Latvian animator based in Brooklyn. Her first of many short stories was published in a local newspaper when she was 14. She went on to illustrate children's books and create sets for puppet theaters. Since she moved to the United States to further pursue animation, Signe has written, directed and animated 15 shorts and two animated films. Her work has been showcased at over 300 film festivals. She uses animation to confront difficult, adult topics, like “Rocks In my Pockets”, which she also voiced, which covers the 100 year history of her family in Latvia. Produced by Emily Naylor.
Evan Vernon interviews Signe Baumane, director of MOTHER'S SONG, a 3 minute clip from My Love Affair With Marriage. Much of the work at Signe Baumane Studio in Brooklyn is practical, meaning non-digital. Signe draws most of the animation herself, pencil on paper, Sturgis builds sets out of wood and their Team of artists covers them in paper-mâché and paint. The sets are lit and photographed, the Team pencil shadows the drawings then scans and organizes them into digital files before passing them on to the Latvian Team. MOTHER'S SONG was recently selected as a Winner in the Animation Nights New York 5th ANNY Best of Fest in 2021. Presenting the first episode of 'Intimate Animation' season 2, brought to you by the online animation magazine skwigly.com Join Skwigly's Ben Mitchell and Laura-Beth Cowley as they explore, discuss and interview the talents behind animation that deals with adult themes of love, relationships and sexuality. In our first episode of 2017 we give a long overdue welcome to New York-based Latvian animation director Signe Baumane (with producer Sturgis Warner) whose long-established gift for animation that takes on notably adult social themes spanning love, sex and mental health includes the shorts 'Teat Beat of Sex' and the independent feature 'Rocks In My Pockets'. Signe's latest project is 'My Love Affair With Marriage' is presently seeking funds through crowdfunding and will tell the story of young Zelma’s developing understanding of her place in society as a woman by mimicking other girls she perceives to be perfect themselves, unaware of the damage this will cause to her relationships later in life. Along the way she is accompanied by four singing Mythology Sirens – who put pressure on her to conform to society’s expectations – Biology, a character who ‘kindles the chemical processes in Zelma’s brain’.
