The Bible as Literature

The Bible as Literature

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 19, 2023 36:49

Whether the soil in the parable of the sower, the earth itself (over which colonials love to impose the illusion of control), the movement of Jesus in Luke (imposed upon by the crowds), or our insistence upon active listening in lieu of a passive hearing, the pattern is evident. We not only imagine that we are something when we are nothing, but we go to great lengths to prove we are something, even if it means driving poor people off a cliff into a genocidal war that will result in nothing except more war. Do you think there is a difference between your views about whatever it is you think about whatever you say because when you speak, you are for peace, but then whatever you say, you are for war? I have news for you. It is not good news. It is not bad news. It is just news, plain and simple. Your premise, whoever you are, whatever it is, more than ignorant, is invalid. Yes, you are wrong. How can you say that, Fr. Marc? Because I read the Bible, and I know exactly what I am. Do you know exactly what you are? Don't interrupt. Oh wait, I'm a text. You have no control over me or my premise, which is not your premise. All you can do is ignore me or ridicule me, but you can't shut me up because I am written. From my perspective, you are nothing more than a pair of ears—and if you have ears, you have no choice but to hear. Which means you are under judgment:“The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord. When Jeremiah finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You must die!”(Jeremiah 26:7–8)Yep. The thing is, it's not rocket science. Whether we are talking about Eastern Europe or the Middle East—stop defending your land because it does not belong to you. We have one Father in the heavens, and his Kingdom rules over all.  We human beings (all of us) are his children together with the animals, the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, and the vegetation. Many in the media have referred to some of us as “human animals.” We are all God's creatures, his animals, the families of the earth—those of us who know what we are sit in a circle each day, holding hands, sharing everything. To paraphrase John Lennon, I hope one day everyone will join us. Each time you defend yourself, you attack Jeremiah and throw him in the stocks. Brothers and sisters, the God of Scripture does not abandon his prophets. There will be a reckoning. I know for a fact you can hear me. Whether or not you listen is your problem.  This week's episode is in loving memory of Fr. Daniel Simon, who was assistant and then head pastor in the refugee church of my youth. Like the towns and villages its founders left behind, this church is erased from the historical record but not forgotten. Likewise, Fr. Daniel's commitment to the gospel is committed to God's eternal memory for the sake of the generation yet to come. So we keep our hand to the plow with Fr. Daniel, as commanded by the Lord, who said:“No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)Richard and I discuss Luke 5:1. The events we have created attract more than 15,000 people each year and touch on global industries impacting people's daily lives. Key Takeaways: Key Takeaways from Manifest  Pam Simon is the EVP Programming & Content at Manifest, a conference designed for those at the forefront of the changing logistics landscape including industry executives, entrepreneurs, and investors. Manifest: The Future of Logistics was held at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 25 to January 27, 2022. The following are Pam's key takeaways from the event: Convergence of logistics, technology and investment professionals coming together to discuss the industry's biggest challenges and opportunities. Sustainability is gaining momentum in the logistics space. Senior executives from the logistics industry presented their sustainability goals and investments, while innovative players from the industry showcased their product offerings that will enable a carbon neutral future. Really cool trucks were in attendance at Manifest including autonomous and electric vehicles. Attendees didn't just get brochures and video demos about the future of trucking, they got to climb in the trucks and participate in ride-alongs. The Women's Luncheon was a big hit at Manifest and not just with the ladies. Over 40% of the attendees were men which reflects the industry's growing demand for female talent. Top logistics companies want to better recruit, develop, and retain women executives – and Manifest is a great place to connect with those talented ladies. Warehousing is increasingly a high tech business with the top companies investing in WMS, scanning technologies, robotics and automation. At the Manifest, top technology companies showed off their latest and great innovations. Logistics is global and so was the Manifest conference, which attracted people from over 27 countries. Many innovative companies from outside the USA were delighted to connect directly with American logistics professionals. Conversely, logistics professionals were thrilled to be exposed to technologies and service offerings that have not yet reached the US market. Leaders In Payments

My guest this week is a Boston University graduate with a law degree from Yale and a passion for “building really great software products in complex spaces that make them seem easy.” So, what does that have to do with payments? Well, besides the fact that fintech is most definitely a wildly complex space, it also doesn't hurt that Coast CEO and Founder Daniel Simon can't seem to talk about anything but the future of fleet and fuel payments. For those of you who may not know, Coast is proactively working to build the financial platform for the future of the transportation industry, beginning specifically with fleet and fuel payments. According to Daniel, fleet is a massive space dominated by a handful of players with huge margins and, for whatever reason, the industry never really thinks about it, even though he himself can't stop. And it's because of his passion for this under supported industry vertical that he proactively created a modern fleet card entirely from the ground up, “reimagined for how it should be if it were born online and spoke a modern digital language.”Coast's core benefit is that it offers a sophisticated solution that allows fleet managers to set policies and rules to proactively control spend. Daniel refers to it as a “vertical-specific expense management solution.” Their target audience is the $4 million local commercial fleet company, but they have customers transacting billions of dollars in revenue over a sales cycle managed in a handful of days. And as for the future vision of the company, Daniel sees Coast eventually offering other financial services to cater to the complex financial lives of their customers, including fleet management software, dispatch software and the like.Tune in this week to hear Daniel talk about his journey to CEO, including the real reason he went to Yale, the start of his first company, and where he sees the industry going in the next 2 to 3 years as it relates to verticalization, specialization, the need to embed financial services in order to add value in vertical SaaS, and why he's not betting against the inevitable disappearance of Visa and MasterCard anytime soon.

Prior to this, he was a Design Manager at Mazda in California during an insane period in the mid to late 2000's where the brand was producing by far the coolest concepts in the industry. These included the Furai, Taiki, and Nagare. Jordan's team produced the latter.   Prior to this, Jordan was a team leader at VW's Advanced Design Center in Potsdam. This was in the studio's legendary heyday where you would find people like Daniel Simon, Christian Felske, Achim Anscheidt, and, for a brief period, Anders Warming, walking the halls.   As a designer, Jordan was one of the pioneers in developing complete volumes in Alias. It has become commonplace now, but it certainly was not standard practice then. To the best of my knowledge, there were only a couple of people in the world doing this at the time and he had a profound influence on many designers.   Jordan's thinking is incredibly unique and there are many reasons for this, including his origins at the Rhode Island School of Design. He also did a brief stint at CCS and eventually went on to do the Vehicle Design program at the Royal College of Art.   Last, but not least, Jordan is a faculty member of the prestigious Art Center in California and has also published a book titled: ‘Vehicle Design: Aesthetic Principles in Transportation Design', which can be found on Amazon (This is not a paid partnership, promise!!!
